Lesson 2 - The Bigwigs of Being Human
Last lesson we questioned what a human was, as an individual. Now what is humanity? What sets humanity apart from other species?
Collective learning. Collective learning is the passing down of a larger mass of information to a large group of individuals. Collective learning is the reason why humans have come so far. Or so it is claimed. But is it really so? A ball can roll down the hill and touch the ground because of gravity but even with gravity it could just stay at the top of the hill. A living organism can eat due to their mouths, organs and various body parts, but it also has the choice to not eat. And humans have the capabilities to use collective learning but they don't need to. They could have stayed foragers, perhaps not even evolve. But they did. The ball was pushed down the hill, and the living organism ate because they were consumed by hunger. Humans were able to evolve and use collective learning because they were curious. Curiosity. It is what turned the gears of evolution. Curiosity is a big part of humanity because without it, humanity would not be the humanity that exists in this instant. We became bipedal because our ancestors thought, Hey! What happens when I try to only use my two hind limbs to move? We would have never learnt about gravity if Isaac Newton wasn't curious about a falling apple. We would have never come this far without curiosity. Thus the saying; Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back.
