Joseph's POV

"Before I finish, I want to tell you that innovation and technology are two synonym terms. You can create with technology! To make something unique, something that expresses you, something that will entertain people or something that will help humanity. The possibilities are endless. You have to visualise it and work very hard for it! That's all for today! You're dismissed!" Mr.Roberts, my professor in Human and Computer Interaction, says as he turns off the projector.

He's a tall man with brown short hair and a slim figure, but I doubt he's the athletic type. I think dressing with shirts and trousers helps him look more formal and severe. He's too young to be a professor, but he's very smart and communicates perfectly with his students. His lectures are very interesting and to be honest, I like attending them. I took this class as optional, because I had to complete the necessary number of classes, but I had no idea that I would come to enjoy it this much. I think, I have to thank Grant for that, because he was the one who insisted.

As me and Grant begin getting down the amphitheatre stairs to get out, Mr. Roberts calls my name. "Mr. Nelson, can I talk to you for a minute?"

"Sure!" I answer puzzled and I nod to Grant to wait for me outside.

"I started checking the class' projects and to be honest with you, I wanted to see yours first." he says calmly and my eyes widen in surprise. "I was really intrigued by your project's presentation and I was looking forward to see it."

"So what do you think?" I ask impatiently. It was a hard project, not to mention an individual one, but I enjoyed it so much that I even forgot to eat. Sophie would bring food into my room murmuring 'I'm not your maid, Nelson', but I was grateful she did.

"I am impressed! The idea is original and its materialization is splendid! I am really amazed, regarding you did that by yourself and in such a short period of time." he remarks with a wide smile.

"Thank you Mr. Roberts! I did my best!" I say with a wide smile. I am so proud of myself. I knew that I could do it, but it's so heartening hearing that from such a notable man. I wish my dad was here to listen to that, to see that his money doesn't go on waste.

"I know you did! Imagine what you could do if you worked in a professional team and if you had the right equipment!" He states, moving his hands.

I narrow my eyes, because I don't know where this is going.

"I guess I could do a better job." I say reluctantly, trying to not a brag and keep a low profile.

"That's why I want you to work with my team on a project!" he says and he leaves me jaw dropped. Then, he describes me a bit the project and truth be told, I find it very interesting. "Take your time to think about it! I want you to work with us a few days, like a test to see if you fit with the team. Unfortunately, if you do that, you won't be able to go home for Thanksgiving! We work even on holidays! You will have to sacrifice a part of your free time." he flashes an awkward smile. "Email me the answer! Thank you Mr. Nelson!"

"Thanks a lot Mr. Roberts." We shake hands and he leaves.

What just happened? This offer came out of nowhere! Me working on a real project, as a part of a team, where we can share ideas and realize an innovative technological achievement? I don't think there's something to sleep on. Well, it's the Thanksgiving part I should find a way to pass it on my mother. It's a good thing that my brother will go home, so I guess she should be fine with Dan.

"Dude, that took a while!" Grant comes towards me. He looks more buffed than usual. I think he showed more eagerness at the gym last week, after Alice beated the crap out of him at Matt's house.

"He wanted to talk about my project! Anyway, I am starving! Let's go grab a bite and I will tell you all about it!" I suggest, because it's 8 pm and all day I have only eaten a sandwich!

"Sorry man! I can't! I have a project meeting." He retorts and I pout.

"Damn it! I am so bored to cook! Sophie is at Robin's, so she hasn't cooked anything." I huff in annoyance.

"Sophie spends a lot of time with Robin, doesn't she?" Grant asks curiously.

"They are friends. Sophie found finally someone to talk about women stuff etc." I reply casually, because Grant doesn't know about Sophie and Robin's relationship and there is no way I am going to tell him, since Sophie doesn't want me to.

"I see. She has someone else to drag to the mall now!" he concludes with a smirk and I nod, sighing in relief that he didn't ask for something else. "Why don't you go to Checkpoint? Call Alice and Vanessa, since you've won that Quiz game! Don't tell me you forgot about the free beer prize?" Grant points out and I am amazed. It's one of the few times (project times excluded), that he'd said something right.

"Your brain works after all!" I remark and he pouts. I take out my phone to call Alice.

"Whomping Willow?" Grant's eyes narrows over my phone screen. "Is that the Harry Potter tree, which beats people, right?"

"Exactly!" I touch the contact to call it.

"Don't tell me that's Alice's phone contact?" He exclaims with open wided eyes.

"Yeah, that's it!".

"You're a dead man if she finds out!"

"I used to have her as 'Howler', but after the last incidents I decided that 'Whomping Willow' suits her better..."

"Yes?" I hear Alice's voice a bit confused. She didn't expect a phone call from me. I hope she didn't hear anything from the previous conversation.

"Hello sunshine! How are you?" I use the most charming voice I have and Grant chuckles.

"What do you want?" she asks in a straight voice and I try to choke my laughter.

"Right to the chase. I like that! You and your sweet roommate have the honour to be invited for a dinner with me at 'Checkpoint'. How tempting is that?" I smirk on the phone, even though she can't see it.

"Did the tonight playboy bunnies bail on you and you've been left empty handed?" she says sarcastically. She never gives me a usual answer. Never!

"You could say that, if Grant counts as a playboy bunny!" I point out and Grant's eyes widen in confusion. Alice chuckles on the phone and her laughter is so amusing to hear.

"Wait to ask Vanessa! Hey Ness! Joseph wants to take us out for a dinner at the place where we won the Quiz. Are you in?" Alice asks, without taking the phone away from her.

"I am sorry, but I have many projects running and also I have to finish this article for the paper and I am stressed, because I want to make a good impression to Ashton and-" Vanessa's distant voice babbles as usual.

"Ok got it! You can't make it! Thanks for your participation!" Alice says sharply. "Listen Joseph Vanessa can't come, so-"

"Don't worry, we will go some other time!" I say with a frown, but I try to sound cheerful on the phone.

"I said Vanessa can't make it, not me! I'll come if your offer still stands, except if the famous womanizer Joseph has to walk around with two women, one for each side; rapper style."I hear what Alice just said and my frowning changes to excitement.

"It will hurt a bit my image, but I think you cover sufficiently the empty spot." I say casually and there's a brief pause after that.

"So I'll see you there in about half an hour!"

"See you there!" I hang up the phone.

I put it in my pocket and then I turn to Grant.

"Buddy, see you tomorrow! Good luck with the project!" I say poking him on the arm.

"Thanks dude! See you!" he answers and I start walking with a fast pace to be at 'Checkpoint' on time.

After a while, I enter Checkpoint in a rush to get warm. Fuck! It's so cold outside! Winter is coming as Ned Stark would say! I take off my black coat and my scarf and I go to the bar, when I see Claire waving at me. Her hair is straight and she's wearing a black top as always.

"Hey handsome! To what do I owe the pleasure?" she asks with a smirk.

"To the free beer that I earned!"

"I've heard you won the prize! Not only hot, but clever as well!" she winks at me.

"That's my CV's short description." I remark, making her chuckle.

"Are you determined to get drunk by yourself tonight?" she leans on the bench.

"You know there's nothing better than getting drunk with you, but I expect company!"

"Really? Please tell me it's your hot friend Nathan! That guy may be young, but he really knows how to use his tongue!" Claire bites her lip and I can tell by her face she's reliving her night with Nathan.

"Claire, too much information! Go tell your girlfriends how Nathan uses his tongue. Last time I checked, I was not interested!" I say with a disgusted grimace and Claire laughs. "Anyway, I don't expect Nathan, I am waiting for Alice!"

"So you have a date?" Her eyes narrows in suspicion.

"It's not a date! We won the prize and we want to enjoy it." I object to her, with a straight voice. Claire's eyes examine me and it's annoying.

"So you want to bang her!"

"No! It's just a friendly dinner." I keep objecting, but she doesn't seem to be persuaded.

"Since when you go out with attractive girls that you don't want to nail?" She's so persistent.

"Alice is not that kind of girl. She's different." I keep saying and Claire just nods, but her eyes still examine me.

"Truth be told, I really liked her from the little chat we had. This is a girl you should keep around!" she winks at me. I can't believe Claire is saying this kind of things to me, when she knows that I am not the type of guy who wants to have a girl around permanently and even if I was, that girl wasn't going to be Alice.

"I think you've started drinking tequila earlier today and you're talking nonsense." I exclaim and she shrugs.

Then, Alice gets into the bar and a cold breeze enters through the door with her waving her long hair. She's wearing blue jean-alike leggings, with a gray long sweater and tall up to the knee brown boots. A warm blue coat and a scarf help her be warm and she's carrying a black bag on one shoulder. She's approaching me and I observe she's wearing more makeup than usual. She has put these-I don't know their names- things to point out her eyes and I can say it really suits her. It makes her brown hazel eyes bigger and more captivating than usual.

"Hey Joseph! Hey Claire!" Alice greets both of us.

"Hey girl!" Claire greets her with a wide smile.

"Hey Alice!" I say with a wide smile and I can feel Claire's eyes penetrating me.

"So what can I get you?" Claire asks, cheerfully.

"I would like a burger." Alice answers.

"Got it! I will get you the best burger from the menu! Joss, do you want your usual?"

"Yeah!" I answer. "Don't put mushrooms in Alice's burger in case it has!" I add and both Alice and Claire look at me surprised.

"Don't worry!" Claire answers with a smile, but her glance towards me is suspicious.

"Let's go get a seat, Alice!" I propose and she nods.

"Don't forget the beer!" I shout to Claire.

The place isn't crowded, since it's not a weekend, but there are people sitting scattered inside the bar. Me and Alice find a table at the back with couches and we sit across from each other.

"I am surprised you remembered that I don't like mushrooms!" Alice says getting off her coat. She's wearing a silver necklace underneath it. Is she a little bit tricked out than usual or is that my idea?

"I've told you I have a really good memory! This is a recorder!" I joke pointing my head and she chuckles.

"Thankfully it contains useful information as well and not only Victoria's secret's summer catalogue." she smirks.

"Did my knowledge impress you?" I ask with a cocky smile.

"I can say you were more impressed by my knowledge!" she winks at me. She turns around the conversation! Pretty smart, Alice.

"I have to admit, it was remarkable that you know all the flags and capitals of the world! Even Sophie couldn't stop complaining about it in the car. She insisted that you found by accident the flag of Marshall Islands or the capital of Eritrea." I point out and I see a simper crossing Alice's face.

"Ratting out your best friend? I didn't see that coming from you!" she remarks with wide eyes.

"Sophie has to learn that there are other people, who know more in some fields than her."

"Look who's talking!" she smirks.

"That was a cheap shot!" I look into her eyes and her smile becomes wider. I am such a junkie for her smile. She looks back into my eyes as well and we just stand like that for some seconds.

"Here are your orders guys!" Claire's voice snaps us out and we break eye contact. Claire leaves the plates and 2 large glasses of beer and before she leaves, she gives me one more suspicious glance, followed by a cunning smile.

"Bon appetit!" Alice says and grabs her burger to eat.

"So French is one of the languages you speak?" I ask, grabbing my own burger as well.

"Yeah!" she answers, putting her hand in front of her mouth, because she was chewing.

"Tell me one story from France!" I say with a smile, because I am so eager to know Alice's adventures in Europe. Judging by what I know, they mustn't be boring at all.

"I will if you share one as well!"

"But I have never been in France!"

"Just tell me one story! From your road trip!" She exclaims eating a fry. "It doesn't work one way!"

"Ok! You go first, since I asked first!" I take a sip from my beer and she surrenders.

As we were eating our burgers Alice narrated a story in which she, Ren and some other friends went for one day trip to Orleans from Paris. At the end of the day they've lost the train that they had tickets for and they had to take the express one, which was expensive but they couldn't afford that. So they decided to get on and risk it. As it seemed, they run out of luck again, because a controller got in at the middle of the road, so they had to get off. Thankfully, they found a group of french college students after wandering for a long time and they let them crush for the night. She was laughing at the memory of a panicked Ren and how adventurous that night was. At the end everything worked out and they returned to Paris with their open way ticket and the correct train.

I really enjoyed her story. Alice has a unique way of narrating them. The whole time I was looking her face expressions. How she laughed at the memory of them running and trying to get the train, then her characteristics softened when she remembered her friends and I loved how her eyes became dreamy, remembering her trip there.

Then, I told her my story as well. Me and Chris got lost in our way to Atlanta and the gas pointer was low, not to mention our phones were dead. We decided to stop a bit to figure out what to do and the result was to find a magnificent spot at the Eastern Coast. It was an amazing beach, something like a lost paradise. Few people knew the place and they had gone for camping. We spent the night there, camping as well and we met some people. Those gave us a bit of gas to continue, until the nearest gas station. It was one of the best experiences in my life. Sometimes you think you're out of luck, but if you're positive, then life surprises you pleasantly. I believe Alice liked my story, as she started asking me questions.

"So do you know how to go there again?" Her eyes sparkle, waiting impatiently for my reply.

Suddenly, my phone rings. Who the hell is? I look at the screen and it's...Dan? Dan rarely calls me and to be honest, I don't call him as much as well.

"Hey bro! What's up?" Confusion paints my voice.

"Hey Joss! Fine! You?" I discreet a bit of anxiety underneath his calm voice.

"Good! How is Boston?" I ask casually, still wondering about the sudden call.

"You know the same... Not that I have seen it a lot. My prof is giving me a hard time!" he says. Dan asked for it. I don't know why he's complaining.

"So fuck the prof and go out! He will survive a few hours without you" I suggest and I am sure he has a disapproving face right now. Alice is looking at me with a confusing look.

"You know I can't do that! My Phd is demanding and I have to show my willingness, that I take this seriously and-"

"Blah blah blah ok! I get it! You need to kiss your professor's ass." I remark and Alice tries to keep a neutral face, to show that she's not eavesdropping. Dan is the same Dan as always. He's the good student, who doesn't make a single mistake, his priorities are his studies and to be admired by his professors. When Dan was in my age, he would spend Spring Break studying, instead of partying. I wonder which one is adopted. I vote for me.

"You never grow up, do you?" he huffs. "Anyway, I called you about Thanksgiving!"

"Thanksgiving? Why?" This caught my attention for good.

"I can't go Joseph! I need to stay here. I called mum to tell her and you know how she is. She understood of course, but she is sad, even though she will never admit that. I told her that you will go, in order to cheer her up!"

"Why did you do that? Did you consider that I may not be able to go?" I exasperate.

"But Joss you always go home!" Dan objects.

"This year there's a possibility that I can't, but you didn't think of asking me first, before talking to mum." I try to maintain my volume low. He always takes me for granted.

"Why's that? Don't tell me because of a party. Dad gave me the green light, because I have a serious reason. You know how much he wants to keep mum happy." Dan mutters. Fuck! Of course Dan would have permission not to come, while me on the other hand, I am the errant son.

"A prof told me that he wants me on a project. That's why!" Ha! Take that Dan. You're not the only one who has serious academic business. That caught Alice's attention and she raised her head from her phone to look at me.

"Really?" he sounds suspicious at first, but then he adds "That's wonderful! You should tell them that! Hard work always pays off, as I've told you and I knew you could do it." I don't know why, but my brother's praise was very encouraging. Dan doesn't say something if he doesn't mean it. It's always like this with him. First I want to kill him, but then I know he doesn't mean bad.

"Thanks! Anyway, I will call mum next week to tell her, waiting for the first storm to calm."

"Ok! Sorry for not asking you!" he apologises. Thankfully he acknowledges when he has done something stupid.

"Don't worry! I'll fix it! Just keep in your mind not to do it again!" I warn him.

"I give you my word! I have to go now! Olivia is waiting for me! Call me to tell me about your project!" Dan says enthusiastically.

"Ok! Say hi to Olivia from me!"

"Of course! Bye little brother!"

"Bye bro!" I hung up the phone.

Great! Just great! Dan made a big mess and I have to find a way to get out! I raise my head and I face Alice's eyes look at me, wanting to ask me something, but I am sure she tries to find the right way to do it. I think I am starting reading better her face expressions.

"Spit it out! I know you want to tell me something." I say and she looks at me astonished. Every time I am with Alice, it's like I am trying to decode a really hard cryptogram. Each time, I manage to crack a little piece of a code. I feel so proud that I managed to crack a new one now.

"Seriously, you have a brother? You looked too spoiled to have a sibling." she states raising an eyebrow. A question followed by a quip. Only Alice could pull that.

"So I assume you're an only child?" I remark, smirking at her and she pouts.

"You assume correctly, but not because of that argument." She retorts. "So how does your brother put up with you? Has he published a survival guide for your case?"

"Dan's life didn't mean anything before me. It was dull. I brought joy and adventure in his life." I brag and Alice eyerolls like she can't believe in her ears.

"So you're the baby brother!" she points out.

"Yeah and the cool one too!" I keep bragging, because it's true. Dan is a really nice person, but truth be told he is boring, not to mention a pain in the ass sometimes.

"That's why you're spoiled!" she chuckles. "Because you're the family's baby." she exclaims.

"I was an upgrade after Dan! That's why my parents didn't have another child." I remark. "Unfortunately they didn't give Dan away!"

"It's cool that you have a big brother! I've always wanted one!" Alice exclaims.

"Do you want mine? He's not even for sale! I give him to you for free." I remark with a smirk and Alice chuckles.

"Thanks for that special offer, but I think you love your brother more than you realize." she beams and I huff. "So you're staying here for Thanksgiving?"

"As you've heard! You?"

"No! I always celebrate Thanksgiving with my dad! It's like a tradition." she beams. I was hoping she would say yes, but of course she would want to spend it with her family, which is still a mystery. She always mentions her father, but never her mother. I have a few theories, but I can't just bring them up.

"Shall I ask for the check?" I propose, since I see it's pretty late. Time flies so fast when I am with Alice.

"Sure!" she gets her purse out.

After some minutes, we're out of the bar, heading to our cars. It's so cold. I can see Alice quavering.

"Bye Alice! It's always a pleasure!" I beam at her, when we get to her car.

"Bye Joseph! Thanks for calling." She turns her back to leave and then speaks again. "Good luck with that project of yours! I am sure you've earned it!" she gives me a warm smile and then she gets in her car and leaves. That girl always makes me look at her leaving with a stupid smile on my face.

Vanessa's POV

It is unbelievably crowded at the library today. I have wandered around every single floor three times already and I haven't found any free spot. I head to the ground floor once again, maybe despite what they say the fourth time can be a charm. As I step out of the elevator, I let my hopes down. There are even more people here now and I am convinced I have no luck today. I spot Nathan coming in from the main entrance and I wave at him.

"Hello, Vanessa. You've been late for once like me?" He is wearing a green hoodie and black track pants. His hair is casually falling at his forehead. It's kind of windy outside.

"Hello Nathan! No, actually I came here straight after my class which means I've been here for more than half an hour and I haven't managed to find a seat." I inform him with disappointment.

"That's all? I thought some shit might have happened, you look like someone run over your cat or something." His smirk makes its first appearance for the day. "I'll take care of that, don't worry."

He approaches the nearest desk where a red haired girl and a blond guy are sitting. They are holding hands while reading their books and they look at each other from time to time. They are so adorable, the must be a couple.

"Hey, dude. You need to move." Nathan tells the guy.

"I am sorry, what?" he looks confused and disturbed.

"I said move, go, leave."

The blond guy stands up to face Nathan. He is not as tall as him but he seems ready to start a fight. I decide to intervene immediately.

"Excuse my friend, we were actually about to leave!" I smile politely to the guy and link arms with Nathan nodding towards the exit.

"Hell, we're not." Nathan gives me an inquisitive look as the blond guy lifts his sleeves. That's not a good sign.

"Goodbye, guys! Study well!" I squeeze Nathan's arm and he finally follows my lead.

"Why did you do that?" he asks as we step outside of the library.

"Why did you do that?" I answer at his question with another question as we walk arm-in-arm.

"Weren't we looking for somewhere to sit?" he points the obvious thing.

"Was that the right way to achieve it?" I try to tame my hair as the wind takes it to all places.

"We would be sitting now if you had let me handle it. You just have to nose around every single damn thing." He says tucking my hair behind my ear. I thank him with a smile. "So what are we doing now?"

"I have no idea. It will be the same thing at the cafes around campus, maybe worse. Everywhere is too crowded to study really."

"Why don't we go to my place?" I am taken aback at his sudden suggestion. He clearly notices it in my reaction.

"Almost nobody will be at the frat house right now. They're all having classes or studying or being busy somewhere else. Besides, I have my own room."

"You sure?" I let go off him to bring my scarf closer to my neck. I haven't realized we were still walking arm-in-arm.

"Yes, I am sure. I have parked at the corner of the street. Let's go." He puts his hand over my shoulder and brings me close to him as we walk towards his car. "God, you're trembling, Vanessa. Don't you have a warmer jacket?" he tells me rubbing my arm.

"Look who's talking. You're only wearing a hoodie."

"We're not talking about me now." He pushes the key remoter and unlocks his car. "Quickly, jump in." he commands and I obey. He gets in and starts the engine.

"It won't take long." he says as he turns on the heat. "You okay?"

"Yes, Nathan. I am okay." I eyeroll.

"You're not but you'll be soon enough." He starts driving.

"I've never been at the frat house in the daylight." I think out loud.

"You're not missing much."

"How is it living there?"

"Fine, I guess." his tone is indifferent.

"Sometimes you're so closemouthed." I say as we stop at the traffic light.

"Am I?" he laughs and turns his body to face me.

"Are you seriously asking?" I cross my arms.

"Yes, I am seriously asking." he does the same thing and I burst into laughter.

"Go, it's green!" I point at the traffic light.

"Yes, miss Adams." he starts driving again and I look away smiling.

"So how is it? Isn't it too noisy or full of people all the time?"

"There is not a non-stop party from the beginning till the end of the year, you know." he raises an eyebrow at me.

"Ha, funny. I didn't say that." I take off my scarf. It's really warm now, the heat did its job.

"But that's what you had in mind. We have parties pretty often and there is something happening almost every week. It's all taking place at night though, it is quiet at day."

"I see. It is a very big house actually. How many people live there?"

"Quite a few. But now there won't be more than a dozen. Do you want to grab something on our way over there?" he proposes as we pass by some coffee shops.

"No, I am good. Thank you, Nathan." He stops with his alarms on.

"Stay here. I'll be right back." He comes back 2 minutes later with two cups in his hands.

"Watch out, it's damn hot." he hands the one to me.

"I didn't want one."

"Sure, I should have left you tremble with the cold. Drink. That's on me." he says with a serious tone.

"You didn't have to but thank you."

"So you're one of those people who won't ask for a thing even if they're dying?" he teases.

"I said thank you!" I giggle as I open the cup and welcome the familiar smell. "It's chocolate, right?"

"Yeap, it should be good for you. I didn't know if you like it with some damn syrup or cream. They put so many fucking things into this stuff." he says in frustration and I hold my laughter.

"I am a caramel lover but this is more than fine." I thank him once again. It was really thoughtful of him really.

"Okay, I'll remember that next time." he reassures me. I look outside the window and observe the walk passers. They are all dressed up heavier than I am. It seems like winter is coming.

"Here we are." Nathan parks outside the ΚΕΓ house. "Give me your books. You take the drinks."

"You're a little bossy today." I tease him.
"You better listen to me then." he smirks. "How the fuck are you carrying these around? They are too heavy for you." he tells me as we get out of the car.

"Let me help you." He is carrying his practice bag as well.

"Walk" he gives me a warning look.

"Okay, okay."

He opens the door and we enter the frat house. I've been here only once but it looks so empty without the guests. We pass by the living room or should I say playroom. There is a huge tv on the wall and some guys are playing PS.

"Hey, Nathan!" A short guy with big blue eyes greets him.

"Hey, Brad. Hey guys." he typically greets back.

"Oh, he's with a girl!"

"You never get tired, do you, champ?" The guys who were playing, have now stopped and they're looking at us. I can't help but think about what Alice said to me the other day. That Nathan's upper motive is to bed me. Is it too hard for anyone to believe that we're just partners for our common class? That's so stereotypical.

"Shut up, you idiots." He shouts back at them. "You. Move." he nods at me to go to the stairs. "Now."

My manners tell me to say at least hello to the other frat boys but by the way Nathan looks at me I guess that's not a good idea.

"My room is at the end of the hallway." he says as we reach the first floor. He unlocks the door and we enter.

His room is almost as big as my own at the dorms and I share it with Alice. There is a bed in the middle of it and a nightstand on the right. There is also a desk at my left, a drawer next to the door and a small couch next to the window. Not to mention the existence of a wardrobe stuck on the wall. What!?

"Wow! How did you get this room? It's pretty big for one person."

"Well, they wanted me in the fraternity and I am not an easy one. I had a few conditions." He picks up a jacket from the floor and puts it on the chair of his desk. Besides that, his room is more than tidied considering he is a) a boy, b) a frat boy, C) Nathan.

"You threatened them?"

"I just asked politely." he puts his hand behind his back looking innocent.

"Yeah, right." I frown my eyebrows as I take off my jacket and leave it on the bed.

"What? I can do that. Occasionally." he says playfully.

"Whatever you say." I continue at the same tone. "How does it work really? You have a system for the frat chores and all or is someone cleaning up for you in a regular basis?"

"You're always so damn curious." he sits on the bed and gestures to me to do the same. "There is a program for everything happening at the frat house so there is always someone responsible to blame. The freshmen are usually the ones doing the most of the chores."

"You do chores too?" I say surprised as I sit next to him.

"Of course not."

"So, all freshmen except you. How do you get away with this?"

"They just want me to play basketball." He shrugs. "Plus, I have my ways." he winks.

"And a huge idea of yourself." I push him with my shoulder.

"Careful, miss Adams. You're going out of the line." he warns.

"You don't say, mr Parker." I lean to push him once more but he restrains me with his hands. Great job, Vanessa. Now you're trapped.

"You're not afraid of me, are you?" his voice is soft and his eyes are staring into mine.

"Should I?" I whisper feeling too weak under his gaze.

"Aha..." he nods. "You definitely should."

"Are you going to release me?" He shakes his head.

"Not yet."

I have this strange feeling burning my whole body whenever we get like this. Whenever he touches me, electricity runs through every single cell of mine. Whenever he looks into my eyes, I lose the ground under my feet. Whenever our faces are inches apart, I can't help but focus on his...-what is going on with me? We stay like this for a God knows how long. As I try to find myself control back, I notice that he is not holding me tight, so with one move I stand up and free myself from his touch.

"Okay, we wasted too much time doing nothing." I go by his desk. "Come on, turn on your laptop."

"Who is the bossy one now." He eyerolls.

"The tables have turned, Nathan." I say feeling my muscles beginning to relax. "Have you saved the file I sent you last?"

"Yeap."

"Perfect! I have added your parts, they were very good! I have checked the books again to see if there's anything related and I have found some things we can use. We can add them now." I open the first book at the paper clip. "Here. You have to adjust these informations to our paper. Only these three paragraphs. And then you can go on with the other paper clips."

"And I am going to do that while you...?" he looks amused.

"Go to the bathroom. Where is it?"

"Don't you see the door?" he points at his right.

"You have your own bathroom as well?" my mouth is dropped on the floor and Nathan laughs.

"You're ridiculously funny. Go on. I have work to do."

I smile at him and open the bathroom door. Wow, even his bathroom is bigger than mine and Alice's. The shower is double the size and you can walk for real in here. I take a big breath. I exhale. I breathe again. I really need to spend some time breathing. There is so much going into my head right now and I need to clean it up. I open the sink and throw some water on my face. This should help. If not, I have clearly no idea what will. I take a few more minutes and then get back to Nathan's room.

"I thought you fell into there." he says and even if he has his back on me, I am sure there is this smirk of his all over his face.

"Sorry to disappoint you. How is it going?"

"It's going."

"So enlightening." I decide to make a little tour around his bedroom and give him time and space for the project. Either he has finally taken it seriously or this is a very well played act. In any case, he is really trying and I appreciate it. The decoration of the room is quite simple. No posters on the walls with basketball themes or naked girls. I guess that's how a teen's room looks like. When you are a frat boy, you can have real naked girl in your room. I wonder if Nathan does. I mean, I am positive he does, I wonder how many. Alice says he is a player. Like not just in the court but a player with girls too. I have seen it with my own eyes. How they fix their hair whenever he passes by the hallway, how closely they lean to speak right into his ear, how they run to get the paper whenever he is on the cover. "He's hot as fuck." I remember Brittany's words when she saw I was holding the paper with Nathan's interview. He can even make girls talk like guys! For God sake's! And he is totally taking advantage of it. He flirts, he winks and he walks with so much confidence. And why shouldn't he? "He's hot as fuck." Brittany, get out of my head! I've never seen him with one particular girl though. He always greets one and then talks to someone new. I bet that if he doesn't know every girl on campus, he knows the half of them, no doubt. But does anyone know him? Like really know him? He is not an open book for sure. He has his playful attitude and that famous smirk, but what is hidden behind? That I would like to know.

I go by his drawer. It's the only place besides his desk where he has some stuff on. There are some books and a calendar open at December 10th and in handwriting "Kate's bday". Is this Kate his little sister? I remember that was her name. Next to the calendar, there is a frame fallen down. I lift it up. It is a family photo I presume and it must be quite recent. Nathan is in his high school basketball uniform, which is white and blue. He is smiling big at the camera wearing a gold medal around his neck. He looks really happy and I immediately smile. His dad is quite tall as Nathan is and he is holding his son proudly, hooking his arm around him. On Nathan's right stands a beautiful lady with a warm smile, a smile that resembles Nathan's and I am sure she is his mother. On the ground, there is a little girl doing a split while holding a small victory cup in her hands with excitement. Yeah, this must be Kate. They all look so joyous and I am so glad this picture was taken.

"What are you doing there?" Nathan asks.

"Just looking. You look like your dad. So much." I point at the picture. Nathan stands up and comes next to me.

"That's still here?" he questions.

"But you have your mom's smile. She's so pretty!"

"She damn is." he rolls over the picture once again. So it wasn't like that by accident?

"You seemed pretty happy. Was it taken last year?"

"Yeap. The day we got the championship and I learnt I got accepted in our college." I didn't expect him to share.

"Kate is really cute! You never saw me a picture of hers!" I complain.

"Now you have seen her. She is a true little monkey." He laughs at the thought of his little sister and I genuinely smile. "So now that you have sneaked around my room long enough, will you get your ass and work on the paper?" he crosses his hands and looks at me from head to toe.

"Oh, I did not! I wasn't sneaking!Um... I just... you know..." I try to explain myself gesturing my hands in the air. He takes them in his.

"I know you, dummy." he smirks and pulls me closer.

"So what? You are making fun of me?" I raise my eyebrows at him.

"You're so fun to tease. I can't help it."

"I almost had a heart attack." He laughs. " Don't laugh!" I try to give small punches on his chest but his hands keep mine still at the exact same place.

"That's all you got?" he laughs louder now and I wish I had taken Alice's offer for personal training. I literally have no strength at all.

"You..." I keep trying with no success. In the end, I join him laughing as well.

"You're so bonny." he lets go of me.

"And you're barbaric."

"Really?" he widens his eyes. "You have seen nothing, little Nessa. Now go do your part of the project as the good girl you are." he pats me on the head.

"Fine!" I sit at his desk while he slumps on the couch.

He has done more than half of the books, which means there is only two left for me. I can see him looking at me with the corner of my eye. Jeez, doesn't he know it is creepy? We pass a moment of silence, actually a lot of moments. It seems like if I don't speak, he doesn't bother to.

"I am almost done." I inform him. Maybe he has plans and I am standing in his way.

"Okay." Of course he has plans. We've been together for more than 2 hours now. I put the book aside and open the last one.

"There's only one paper clip in this so it won't take long."

"Hmm." He murmurs. He must be bored. Or he is looking forward to stop being bored. In about 15 minutes, I have added the informations from the last book.

"I am finished." I get up and search for my jacket which I have left on the bed.

"Is that so?" Nathan gets up as well.

"Yes. I am sorry it took me that long." I put on my scarf.

"Was that a lame attempt for a joke? 'Cause you did it pretty fast." he grabs a jacket from his closet.

"You're going out as well?" I ask taking a glimpse at the room like I just entered.

"Hello? I am driving you maybe?" he plays with his keys pointing them at me.

"Oh, you don't have to, Nathan, I-"

"I am driving you. It's fucking dark outside." he pushes me out of the room as he takes the books from his desk. We go downstairs and I see the playroom full. They are about 20 people in here now, boys and girls, and they are playing some card game.

"Hey, Nathan, sit down! Your cute friend too!" A tall guy with a cup in his hand invites us cheerfully.

"Knock it off, man. I am driving her home."

"Oooooooooh!" the frat guy says laughing as Nathan takes me by the hand and drags me out of the ΚΕΓ house.

"It really does change at night." I point behind us.

"I told you so." He keeps holding my hand in his until we reach his car and I look at him with curiosity. He seems like he just noticed it and he lets go right away.

"Get in." he opens the door and gives me my books.

"Thank you." I smile at him. He quickly jumps in the car and we get off.

"So what were they playing?" I ask Nathan.

"Some shitty game." He turns the heat on.

"With cards? What are the rules?" I sit up to have a better view at him.

"You don't leave a thing unnoticed." He says with a smirk.

"Come on! Tell me how they play the game!" I shake his shoulder.

"Alright, alright! Chill out, special friend!" He still remembers that? I eye roll and he smiles with my reaction. "So there are some cards and drinks and each card has its own rule, like you have to do a certain thing when you pick it up."

"Like what?"

"Like drink. Getting drunk is the obvious goal of the game."

"And what else?"

"You know, the basics. Make out, take your shirt off, dance naked..." he says calmly.

"On a Wednesday night? What's the point?" I wonder out loud.

"Get drunk." he says again laughing. "And have fun."

"Do you play it?"

"Not so often." He says tossing his fingers on the wheel. It's kind of distracting.

"Really?" I don't hide my surprise.

"Really. Why do you have that look?" he sounds surprised as well.

"I thought it was your kind of game." I simply state.

"There are a lot of games that I like." he tells me smirking. " The drinking ones aren't my favourite though."

"How is that?" I didn't expect that either.

"That's what you think of me? That I am some drunk dumb frat boy who parties non-stop?" he pretends to be offended.

"What would you think?" I raise an eyebrow at him.
"That I am a smart hot as fuck basketball player who knows how to have fun." he smirks.

"Oh, please! Do you always make compliments to yourself?" I facepalm.

"I just expressed your true inner thoughts." he teases.

"God!" I hide my face in my hands. "You are such a narcissist." He laughs.

"Anyway, I just don't drink that much. Just at the right occasions. I am a damn athlete after all." He remarks shrugging.

"I guess that makes sense." I say after thinking about it again. We spend a couple minutes in silence.

"So are you going to play tonight?" I ask looking outside the window.

"Nah.. I'm not in the mood."

"Hm...I see...Got anything else to do?" I still look outside even if there is nothing interesting out there.

"Yeah, have a shower, lay in bed and get a good sleep. We have extra practice tomorrow morning to prepare for Friday's game. What about you?" he asks as we reach the dorms.

"Pretty much the same. Maybe watch some series with Alice, if she wants too."

"That sounds fun." he says as he parks outside of the building. "I like Alice, she is cool."

"Yes, she really is wonderful! I am so lucky to have her." I praise my friend.

"Well, she's lucky to have you too." he tells me smiling and I look down.

"Um.. Thank you for the ride, Nathan."

"Will you stop thanking me for that?" he looks into my eyes still smiling.

"Well...Um...Not really..." I giggle.

"Goodnight, Vanessa."

"Goodnight, Nathan. Sleep well and sweet dreams!" I say as I get out of his car. He laughs and waits for me till I get into the dorms. I wave at him when I do and he drives off, leaving me with a million thoughts in my head.

Sophie's POV

I am checking myself out in my bedroom mirror. I wear my favorite blue shirt with a pair of skinny black jeans and my black chucks. I look good, I know I do. Robin will be here to pick me up in 10 minutes for our coffee date, well not date- date...a nightmare really, a date I've been dreading for a while. Why? Because today Ro and I will meet with Sam for a coffee. Sam, as in Robin's overprotective best friend/Ex-friend with benefit. A friend that so far has witnessed me in my game vicious mood and heard off some bad things about me.

Let's count them: a) me being an accidental asshole to Robin on our first meeting, which I explained how it went in my head, to Robin, later on b) me being a snobby binch at the frat party, c) me being an asshole the morning after the party, and d) avoiding Robin after I kissed her. So it's safe to say that Sam may not be my fan right now. Her vibes at the game night were hostile at best, and we didn't even say that much. But Sam doesn't know me, all of me, so I believe that nothing is lost yet. Plus we were on the same team, and I did not kill her for losing the game. This is good.

I admit that knowing that Sam and Ro had a causal relationship is a bit weird, but Ro explained things to me thoroughly. She told me more than once, that she never had romantic feelings towards Sam, and neither has she, that they were both heartbroken and that they needed something comfortable.

I think the fact that I haven't seen them together- together, and the fact that when I met Sam she was already with Nicky, made their previous history, less intimidating for me. I am not worried about Sam, because I get to see her with Nicky, and they have a nice relationship. So no, surprisingly, I am not jealous. I was jealous over Emma, I will admit that, but I think my biggest insecurity is Natalie. I have never met her and I have never seen her dynamics with Ro. I don't know her and that is intimidating.

Robin told me that Sam will love me once she gets to know me better, like she did, but I am really nervous. Sam's approval means a lot to Robin and even though we have only been together for a few weeks, I really need this to work, so I have to make Sam like me. I have to do my best. I already know a few things about her and I managed to write down last night a list of all the things we could discuss today. We can talk about history and I can inform her on the right Louis.

I feel my hands sweating and my heart beating fast. I try to take a few deep breaths to calm down but the pumping feels way to strong in my pulsepoint so I start counting my heartbeats as I sit on my bed and wait for Robin's call.

Ten minutes later I get in her car. She greets me with a smile and after I've buckled up she leans in for a kiss creating butterflies in my stomach.

"Hi pretty girl. You look beautiful." I feel my cheeks blush and lower my head to hide that. I hear Robin's giggle and I close my eyes trying not to look so damn shy. Come on Sophie, get it together! I felt her hand on my shoulder and then on my cheek. I turn to face her embarrassed but her hand moves to my chin and then she leans again for another kiss and I melt.

"I like it when you blush you know. So different from the person I met a month ago. I like this part of you". She says as her forehead touches mine, noses bumping together.

"I hate this part of me." I sass back. Which is true, because Robin tore down everything I thought I knew about myself?

"You don't have to be nervous, Sam likes you, I know it. She might come off as bitchy but that's just the way she acts around people. She is an amazing person and very cool, so just be yourself. The person I got to know the past few weeks, ok?" She tries to calm me down.

"But she knows all those awful things about me Ro, and first impressions are hard to change. She wasn't very warm with me at the game night. She dislikes me right?" I sigh and she cups both my cheeks making me look into her eyes.

"Ok, first, yes she has heard of that, and she has been there for the dramatic events after the frat party, but Sam knows me, and she knew right away that I like you. Sam is a logical person, and she knows better than to judge someone without knowing them. She knows there was a reason you acted like that, ok? Trust me, she likes you. She had fun the other night." She gives me a last kiss for reassurance and gets back behind the wheel, starts the engine and drives us to the coffee shop.

When we get there Sam is already waiting for us with a cup of coffee between her hands. She is wearing black combat boots, low cut shorts and a white blouse and she is smiling warmly at us. Robin gets to her first and hugs her, which gives me a weird sensation in my stomach, which I try to brush it away, and follow Robin.

"Hello Sam. Thanks for inviting me to your hang out!" I give her my hand for a handshake feeling awkward. She doesn't reach for it though but maintains eye contact with me, and after seconds she goes for a hug. Surprised I hug her back and I see Robin giving me a thumbs up smiling. I think that was a good ice breaker and as I sit down I feel more relaxed. But ... as Robin reaches for the seat next to me, Sam stops her. Ro looks confused and so do I.

"Ro, can you give me and Sophie 20 minutes alone?" She says and Robin's eyes open wide. Which only means it took her by surprise as well.

"What? Sam, what are you doing?" Ro is looking at her kinda angry I think.

"I just need 20 minutes alone with Sophie. So go drive around the block for a while or sit at a park or something, and come back." Sam's face is calm as she orders Ro. Her face unreadable not revealing anything.

I haven't said a word so far, frozen on my seat. She can't kill me in front of these people, right? I get anxious by the second but also curious. What does she want to talk about? I know that in order for us to go along I have to agree to this so I turn to Robin and once she faces me I give her a smile and a nod.

5 minutes later and Sam and I are alone. She doesn't say anything, inspecting me, trying to figure me out I guess. I don't stand the silence, so I talk first.

"Sam, I know you are not my biggest fan, bu.-"

"How long do you plan on being in the closet?" She deadpans, arms crossed.

"Excuse me?" I frown because this is not what I expected.

"What will happen if your parents don't approve of your new status?" She continues unaffected.

"I..I don't.." I mumble.

"What will happen if a white rich boy hits on you and you realize this is a phase? What will happen with Robin if you've had your fun for a while experimenting and then turn back to being the ignorant asshole you were in the beginning?" She hits me with those questions, dead serious. But she doesn't wait for me to answer them because she speaks yet again.

"I will tell you what happens. Robin will be broken and will close off again. Leaving me to pick up the pieces and listen to her talking about not wanting to get close to anyone again. This ends with Robin a mess and you a snob bitch that breaks people for fun and Ro doesn't deserve that. So please do answer those questions for me, will ya?" She rests her case and waits for me.

I take a few moments to collect my thoughts. I don't blame Sam for doing this. She thinks she has to protect Robin from me and I stand with her as I would do the same for Joss. I've learnt to always be honest when asked things so I will be, hoping she will like the answers. Here goes nothing..

"Robin and I talked about me coming out and we both agreed to give it time. I am not ready to tell my parents yet or to be out and proud to the world as you know I am sure, but Robin knows I want this and she is willing to wait for me. I know it is not fair to her and I feel guilty for dragging her into this but I reassure you that if it gets messy, I will set Robin free..." I pause because I feel my eyes watering.

I don't need Sam to lecture me about it. I've been replaying all the scenarios in my head every night since the moment we kissed and although my head says not to get into this, my heart shouts encouraging me. I can't let her go even though I might hurt her in the end. It sounds selfish but I want her.

I bring my hand in my face and rub my temple. I need to continue..

"I don't know how my parents will react, but I know that as long as I have her and my friends I will feel strong enough to face everything. I've heard of all the stories about parents kicking their children out but I don't think my folks are one of them. I feel that they will come to terms with it eventually. And as for the 'experiment' as you call it, Robin's is the first person I kiss, not because I didn't have any guy thrown at my feet, but because for the first time I really wanted to kiss someone to the verge of hurting inside if I didn't. I don't know what this tells you about me but Robin knows this is not a phase. I am sorry if it upsets you that we are together and I am sorry I can't promise I won't do anything stupid and hurt her, but this is a first for me and I am bound to make mistakes. I just hope to deal with them the best way possible and cause the minimum trouble. But even if I do end up hurting her, I know that she will have you there, and for that I will be grateful to you. You and I have one thing in common. We can either fight or get along but I feel that together, we can make her happy. I am not good with people, and I need my time to open up to them, but I would like to be your friend Sam, if you let me." I take a deep breath and zoom out. I hope her interrogation is over because I've reached my limit. I feel drained and awkward and I want to just go home.

"Very well. My bad cop tactics are still working as I see. Robin is like my sister and I have to make sure she is happy and sane." Sam says and her stance is way more friendly now. " I think we can start over, forget about the first impression I had for you and how much you pissed me off on game night...let's get along. Robin seems happy and she has been smiling like a love sick puppy lately, so I will do my best to try my best for this "friendship" and I might even apologize for losing since I didn't get to do that the other night, but if you hurt her, I will break you Ms. Rich girl." She states, eye rolling and smiling at the same time. I take this as a good sign.

I give her a smile and nod. "You have my permission for that."

She eye rolls and sips her coffee. "So....law, huh? Do you watch How to get away with murder? Annalise Keating is my favorite"

That leads to a 5 minute conversation about the series that I haven't watched yet but got spoiled to anyway. When Ro comes back, Sam and I both give her a smile and relaxed she sits next to me. She grabs my hand under the table, caressing my knuckles.I wish she could kiss me right now, but she holds back knowing my fear. I can't kiss her but I can squeeze her hand and smile to her, so I do so, earning a wink from her and a groan from Sam.

We spent 2 hours talking about college stuff and Sam seemed to actually mean everything she said to me. She was still reserved and made fun of me for my attitude on game night, a few times, but she is making an effort here, and for that I am more than happy.

Once in Robin's car I let myself relax. Overall the meeting went well, if a smiling Robin next to me is any indication. She turns on the radio and I zoom out lost in the beat. When we reach my house Robin parks the car and unbuckles, opening her door, but I grab her hand stopping her.

"I don't want to go home just yet. Can we move to the back seats and talk?" I say and she nods. As we sit on the back seats she reaches for my hand immediately, threading our figures together. I lean on her shoulder and her shower gel makes my heart swell. I like her smell, I decide, and press my lips to her neck.

"It went well, don't you think?" She asks carefully. "What did you guys talk about? I am sorry if she was harsh on you, Soph." she kisses my forehead and I kiss her neck once more.

"It was ok, don't worry." I don't want to tell her that she gave me the third degree because I don't want to make her upset, so I opt for a better version of how the convo went. "She is protective of you, but that's fine. I would be too for my friends. So it's all good, I honestly think we can get along". I reassure her and I hear her releasing a long breath.

"Maybe next time we can hang out with her and Nicky.. a double date? Movies maybe?" She asks, hopeful.

"That sounds great. I would like that." I kiss her shoulder this time and she tsked.

"Do you plan on kissing anything other than my neck or shoulder any time soon?" she giggles and I tickle her. I lift my head up and I touch her lips with my thumb. We lock eyes and after seconds, I initiate a kiss bringing my hand behind her neck, trying to get her as close as possible. She smiles against my lips but she deepens it with fervor, bringing her hand on my stomach above my clothes.

Things get heated fast and all I feel is my heartbeat going crazy, and my ears burning, along with my cheeks. My palms are sweating and my lungs burn from the lack of oxygen, so I break the kiss to let air fill my lungs but she follows my mouth attaching her lips to mine cutting my breath sort. This is so overwhelming and my head is buzzing, it's a good buzz, though. But I do need to breathe so I stop her again and move my head inches away from hers. I take a look at her. Her eyes are still closed and her cheek red as well. She sighs and opens her eyes, pupils dilated -I did that to her- I think and my heart is doing somersaults.

"Sorry, I got carried away" she looks shy and embarrassed. She is cute that way and I kiss her cheek to comfort her.

"It's ok, I just needed to breathe. I enjoy kissing you." I smile brightly. I never thought I would say those things to anyone, let alone a girl, but here I am...

"Ok, good to know. I should get you inside though. We have been here for an hour." she says and I am taken aback. We have been making out for an hour? How can you lose track of time so easily?

I nod in agreement and we get out of the car. Once outside our apartment, we hug and she whispers a "goodnight pretty girl, sweet dreams" kissing my ear. I blow her a kiss and get inside, smile plastered on my face and a smirking Joss across the room.

"Don't say anything" I say and he raises his hand in the air. I make my way to my room and jump on my bed, face buried on my pillow. Today was a good day.
