What is the Truth?

I closed my eyes. The noises running back and forth like children. Like a carousel, the noises slowly began to play, but after so long they began to fade. A warm blanket of darkness came over me crashing like waves.

I was pulled in further to the darkness by nets. I could feel the cloth that protected my body was wet. It stuck to my body clinging on so as not to be pulled away by the water.

My body was heavy but I felt weightless. The weight of this expanse was more than me.

The ripples flowed out from underneath me and I could feel each beat as it passed. It was like a tempo for a song, but I couldn't hear anything. Just silence. Silence over a dark ocean.

I could feel a voice calling for me, but I could not hear it. The voice was like a chime that had faded to a whisper. I could only think of it like sand being thrown into a gust of wind.

I opened my eyes and there were small yellow slivers upon the water. This water was shallow and there was land. I looked to the right and there were trees on the horizon with a small light shining through the trees to illuminate the land.

With every passing second, the slivers upon the water grew and I could soon see the dark water that had taken me. My neck began to tickle when it felt little fingers touch it. I turned over and saw that it was grass. From where I was, the water ended and a field of grass began.

There was a little house over a couple meters away that appeared to only have one room in it from what I saw through the little window. The house had a red roof, four white concrete walls, a red door, and one little step for the front door. It felt familiar, but I couldn't tell where from.

When I turned my head back to the water there was someone lying next to me. He looked into my eyes. His eyes were dark like the water and black like his hair. His skin was an almond color. He was a little chubby and had a round face that was Mexican.

I knew who this was: a previous lover, but why was he here when I no longer cared about him. He loved me lustfully and just kept pulling me in then leaving me. Deceptive. He was never mine, but in the beginning, we both wanted to be each other's. I left him after he broke me so many times, so why was he back to see me when he was the one who stopped loving me first? Did he realize his mistake for treating me the way he did? Or was he back for round two?

The problem was that I couldn't tell. He just looked into my eyes and I looked back into his. There was no tension. He began to say something but what was it? I couldn't hear it, but I stayed calm.

He took his hand and placed it on my neck. He pulled me in to kiss me and I closed my eyes. I wasn't sure if I wanted this or not, but before I could decide I was quickly drawn away and with a giant shake I opened my eyes.

I gasped for air. I sat up in my bed and began to cough up water.

When I got a hold of myself, I couldn't see anything but darkness. I thought of the sunrise and the little house with one front step. The words of my previous lover. What was he trying to say?

That day when I went to school, I passed him in the hallway. He saw me but just kept walking.  His lack of emotion and expression was like a machine. No thoughts. No emotion. Just gears and circuit boards spent doing clockwork. Mindless clockwork. His heart must've been artificial too.
