Our Mission

What is our mission here at What-IfVerse? Our mission is to provide fun activities for people who write fanfictions that alter canon material, who redefine genres, who create something amazing using their imagination and asking themselves, "What if?"

Now you might wonder, what exactly do we mean by redefining genres and altering canon material? We will gladly provide you with examples that might even inspire you to write your new fanfic/original story.

Let's first start with altering canon material. Are you a Harry Potter fan? If so, this will be easy for you to grasp but for those who aren't familiar, we'll gladly break it down for you to better understand.

Example 1: What if.... Draco Malfoy fell in love with Hermione Granger during the Battle of Hogwarts?

Example 2: What if.... Harry Potter is killed by Bellatrix Lestrange by mistake and Bellatrix is forced to betray The Dark Lord and give herself a redemption arc?

Here's some context clues for those unfamiliar with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Draco Malfoy is a wizard with bad upbringing. He was raised to believe that certain types of people are better than others due to their blood and connection to magic. With the example I just provided, Draco Malfoy, who is a Pure-blooded wizard (take Percy Jackson, a demigod, is half mortal and half god.) In regards of Draco Malfoy, his lineage is nothing but wizards with no non-magical bloodlines. Now falling in love with Hermione Granger doesn't seem so bad, correct? Unfortunately, no. It would be a disaster if they fell in love since Hermione is a witch with no magical roots or ties other than her lucky birth as a witch.

With the second example, Harry Potter is the primary protagonist. If he is killed, there would be no story. Bellatrix Lestrange is a deranged Pureblood witch who enjoys torture and murder and blindly follows the whims of The Dark Lord (the big bad). As canon is, Bellatrix is infatuated with him and would never betray him. But here at What-IfVerse we believe otherwise!

Now let's dive into redefining genres. This one is a bit more in the discovery and poking at stages, but redefining something is usually a work of art. But what is art? Long ago, we saw it as painting on a canvas. Now, we see art around us. Complex shapes in architecture, pottery, flower arranging, and more. But what exactly can we expect in redefining known genres in literature?

Imagine your favorite genre is science fiction. You love time travel. What if you write a story where a zombie (horror genre) is sentient and uses a time travel machine to enter the past and stop the virus that created the apocalypse in the first place?

Or, In a fae court there is a young hero who is forced to travel into the cosmos to bring back a sample of the sun to revive their dying planet.

There are so many things that can redefine a story. Genres are just the starting point and our mission is to find those stories, create fun activities, and more.

We hope to see you on our next update! We'll be discussing reading lists and how to submit. After that, we'll officially introduce ourselves in 'Meet the Founder' ♥
