...You died instead of Natasha Romanoff?
Marvel
What if - You died instead of Natasha Romanoff?
Your pov.
You felt uncomfortable in the white, black an red suit that would make this whole time travel thing possible. It was all settled. What was going to happen would decide wether everyone would get back or not.
A slight agitation was bubbling inside your stomach, and you were nervous without any limits. Next to you was your girlfriend, Natasha Romanoff alias Black Widow. Her red hair with the blonde hair tips was braided as usual, and she seemed just as nervous as you were.
You two would be the team that would try and get the soul stone, while the others went for the rest of the infinity stones. You just couldn't deny the feeling that something bad was about to happen, it sounded too easy for you. Natasha felt your uneasiness and took your hand in hers.
"It'll be fine. We only need to get that stone and we'll get them back." she said. Hope burned in her eyes, chasing away the sadness that had lingered for five years in them.
You shifted your weight. "I know... but I still got this weird feeling..."
Natasha eyed you with sympathy, "Don't worry. We'll be back in no time."
You chuckled about her pun, knowing she got what she wanted with that.
"You're unbelievable, Romanoff."
"Same goes for you, Maximoff."
A small smile reached your lips, a sad one. You were the youngest of your siblings, Pietro and Wanda. While the first one got shot in Sokovia, the second got dusted by Thanos. Her efforts to destroy the mind stone of Vision's head had been useless, regarding how the titan still got a hold of it, dusting half of the universe.
Your sister had been one of the many victims, leaving you all alone. Clint had taken you in, even though he left after a while to get his own kind of justice. Natasha was everything for you since then, just like you were for her. You knew that her sister got snapped too.
"It'll be fine." Natasha reassured you. "We'll be fine."
If only she knew how wrong she was...
"You guys ready to go back in time?" you heard Tony, causing you to look at him.
"As ready as I'll ever be." you answered.
"Alright. Let's do it." Tony muttered, walking forwad.
You glanced at Natasha, then you followed him.
Whatever it takes...
"See ya in a minute!" you girlfriend said, before you felt agentle pull in your stomach.
As you re-opened your eyes, you found yourself on Vormir. The cliff looked just the same as in your visions, causing you to gulp. A soft breeze flew around you, and you shivered.
"I guess we're here."
"Hm-hm."
"What do you see?"
You closed your eyes, focusing on the energy that laid deep inside you. A vision, showing Thanos and Gamora, appeared in front of your inner eye, telling you the needed sacrifice. Cold fear clawed its way into your heart.
"Someone has to die in order to get that stone. It's a trade. A soul for the stone."
Shaking you turned your head to Natasha, fear in your eyes. She gently took your hands, and brought her forehead to yours.
"I think we both know who that'll be." she said. Tears welled up in your eyes. You knew what she was about to do.
"Me." you said unisono with her, before running straight towards the cliff.
You stumbled as she threw one of her guns between your feet, overtaking you in an incredible speed. You breathed heavily, catching her legs with a rope, which caused her to fall. There was no way you'd let her be the sacrifice.
"I'm sorry, Tasha!" you managed to get out, recovering from your own fall, speeding back to the edge of the cliff.
"No!" she bawled, pushing you to the side. She jumped, not realising that you followed her, catching her with the rope that was still bound around her waist. An anchor held her now, and as she was stopped, she reached out to you, grasping your wrist. You panted, raising your head to meet her eyes.
"Let me go..."
"Don't! Please!" you heard her beg, as your eyes showed a sadness she'd never seen on you.
"It's okay." you reassured her.
"No... You... you have a family... you..." Natasha tried to reason.
"You do as well... And I'm sorry for leaving you behind... Tell Wanda, that I love her..."
"Tell her yourself!" she cried.
"I love you..." you whispered, removing your hand from hers.
"No!" you heard her cry, sending her a last, loving smile. Your hair fluttered around your head, as you fell, a smal tear of yours following you slowly. In your head you saw the memories you and Natasha shared, Wanda's and Pietro's face following.
"Whatever it takes..." your lips formed, just before your body hit the ground.
Your soul left your body immediatly, causing colours to race up the cliff where your girlfriend hang, silently sobbing. In her hand was an orange stone, pulsing with the energy your soul had offered.
Natasha returned without you that day, even though your ghost would guard her forever...
