Chapter 7: Prisoners 3-11-16

We soon awoke alarmed to find that we were in Isengard! We were in a tight, dark, and smelly cell. We could hardly see anything, since it was so dark.

"Merry," I whispered.

"I'm here," Merry responded with a touch on my leg.

"Can you see anything?"

"No, but guess what?!" I asked suddenly having a flashback shot through my head. When we were trying to escape and cut our bounds off with the knife from the dead orc body, during the attack of the Erebor Ravens, Merry cut of his bounds. An orc retied his, but not mine. Mine were almost cut through. I could effortlessly get mine off. I had kept it a secret until now. Secrets aren't really my thing either. I explained this to Merry.

"Perfect..." Merry whispered, "but don't take them off yet, let's wait for just the right moment."

Suddenly a dreadfully loud horn went off and we jumped startled. Had they heard us? We backed up into a corner. We started hearing yelling and heavy stomping coming our way. Orcs were now running past our cell with torches in their hands. We could see each other and the cell we were in through the occasional burst of torch light that came by our cell. We were too scared to talk or even breathe. We could clearly hear what the orcs were yelling about now.

"That meaningless maggot! We should have killed it when we had the chance!" a dark gruff orc voice said.

"The White Wizard is going to be furious! We have to find that creature before he finds out!" another louder voice said.

"What about the Halflings?" another questioned. Our hearts stopped beating for a second. They remembered us.

"Let them rot away until we find the escaped prisoner," what sounded like the first orc answering.

"Why do we have to find the prisoner first? Why not search the Halfling now?" one bellowed.

"Isn't it obvious?" one snarled in reply, "If Saromon finds out we lost another prisoner, those Halfling would be the only things dead!"

It was silent for a moment and then all the orcs started running back the way they came again. At least this would give us some time to think of a way to escape or have somebody rescue us. It would also give us some time before getting searched and dying when they found out we didn't have the ring. The orcs had just finished running by our cell, so it was lights out again. The blackness swallowed us up again and we sat there completely bored out of our minds.
