Chapter 3: Fangorn 2-21-16

I had just bit off my Elvin leaf clip and dropped it to the ground. Who knows if Aragorn ever found it and knew we had been there. Anyway, Merry and I were attached to the orcs backs, so there was no hope in escaping. They kept running and running. At last, we stopped next to an enormous forest. This forest went by the name Fangorn. Heard to have trees come to life, and even move. So Merry told me.

It was turning nighttime and the orcs needed a breather. Many of them put together a fire, while others hunted for food in the forest. It was very much boring and scary. The only sound we heard was our empty stomachs growling and axes striking wood.

It was now that I realized Merry's gash on his head had gotten a little better. The orcs put some black, gross, gooey stuff on it and then put a bandage around his head.

A little time later, some orcs brought back a fresh elk. The orc in charge, Ugluk, bit off some for us and then the rest of the pack started tearing it apart. Some orcs got some and others didn't, they began to fight and argue loudly.

We didn't dare eat that raw piece of meat that was left for us, even though we were starving. As one of the orcs walked by us, I said in a very small voice, "Do you mind cooking this over the fire?" I gulped. The orc snorted and swallowed the whole piece of meat. Merry shot me a look.

"Worth a try," I said sadly.

The orcs put out the fire and it began to get cold again. Very cold. Two orcs started coming our way and glared at us as they said,

"If you don't talk or try to escape, we won't have a problem, Deal?"

We nodded and lay against the tree we were still by. Ugluk, the one in charge it seemed announced,

"We shall rest here tonight and go early tomorrow morning. We are about 2 days away from Isengard if we don't run into any problems," All of the orcs started hooting and halloring. There was a slight chill through the air as he spoke the word 'Isengard'. It sent more chills through our bodies.

The sky was now painted in a very dark blue color and we watched the twinkling silver stars above. Gazing upon them made us feel happy and calm. We pretended to be back in the Shire lying on our back on the tallest hill looking at the stars. We soon forgot where we were it seemed and fell asleep.
