Chapter 1: Rolling Apples 2-17-16

A/N: I drew this picture! ;-)

Pippin was up in a tree picking juicy crimson apples. Merry was on the ground catching all the apples Pippin threw down to him. They were planning on making an apple pie for the celebration tonight. Maybe even 2. Or 3. The celebration was going to consist of Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Bilbo, and the rest of the Shire, and of course Gandalf to amuse the children with fireworks. Before Frodo and Bilbo left forever, sailing away to the Grey Havens, the hobbits wanted to have a last gathering.

"Frodo's bringing that book right?" asked Merry.

"What book?" said Pippin reaching for a massive apple that was too high for him to reach.

"The book Bilbo and Frodo wrote their adventurers in,"

"Oh that book," Pippin said not entirely all ears to what Merry was saying, but to the massive apple he was still trying to reach, "Probably,"

"I can't wait to hear Frodo read it to us!" said Merry. "Hey do you think we have enough apples Pip?" Merry asked gesturing to the four crammed baskets of juicy crimson apples on the ground.

Pippin looked down and nodded. "How do I get down?"

"You jump"

"I don't want to jump, I might break something," Pippin complained.

"Just jump, I'll catch you," exclaimed Merry with arms open wide looking up at the branch Pippin was standing on.

Just as Pippin was about to jump, he heard a noise from behind him. Probably just a Shire animal, but looked anyway. As he tried whirling around to see what it was, he slipped on a low branch and fell backwards onto Merry. They both hit the ground hard and went plummeting down a large hill close by. Their big feet managed to hook around the loops of the baskets and all the apples went soaring into the air everywhere. They kept going down and down rolling over apples as they went. Finally, they hit the bottom.

"That was close," Pippin said; face only a couple inches away from a small pond.

Merry stood up and looked at all the apples they had just picked; now surrounding them. There were some in the pond, some smashed on the ground, and some still rolling down the hill.

"So much for making the pie," said Merry sadly.

"Or pies," said Pippin standing up.

Merry squeezed some apple juice out of his now discolored and stained golden vest. "Darn, we were supposed to look nice for the celebration," he said now brushing off muck and earth off his pants.

"You look better than me," said Pippin.

Merry looked up and laughed. "You have it in your hair!" Then he pushed Pippin into the pond.

Luckily the pond was only about 2 and half feet deep. Pippin then grabbed one of Merry's legs and pulled him in too. They had a laugh as they splashed each other more and more.
