When Dick woke up that morning, he had that feeling that something important was going to happen.
He got dressed in time for the "morning walk" when the sound of sobs reached him. There was a dark haired girl crouching in a corner of the alley, shoulders shaking as she was, evidently, crying.
"Hey. Are you okay?" He said, at a loss for words.
"No. No, I'm not. He-He killed her. Tha-That is not okay", she sobbed out.
"I'm sorry what now?"
"Smelly Gabe. He-he killed my-my mom." She started to cry harder.
"What's your name?"
"Per- Persephone. but I my mom calls- called me Percy."
"Okay, Percy. Come with me."
"O-okay"
The Juvenile Detention Centre was not the place either of them deserved, but hey, could fate really give them a break?
————————————————————————
It was a fateful night when Dick met Batman and refused to back down from his "quest."
The next day, as fateful, if not more so, than the night passed, as Bruce Wayne came to the Detention Centre.
He had apparently decided that he wanted to take the acrobat in, feeling guilty about the entire situation.
Percy didn't buy it.
Still, she couldn't stop Dick if he made up his mind.
"I'm supposed to go talk to him first."
"Be careful, Dick."
——————————————
"Hello Richard. I'm Bruce. How are you?"
"I'm Dick."
"Okay then. Dick, how are you?"
"As well as I could in this place."
Bruce chuckled at his fiery response. "What would you say if I could get you out of here? Hypothetically."
"I would ask you why on earth should I trust you. Hypothetically, of course."
"I was there that night. I paid for the funeral of your parents. I know that isn't much to earn your trust, but I hope it can be a show of my goodwill. I want to help you, Dick."
Dick inhaled sharply. "You're Bruce Wayne."
"Guilty as charged."
"What's in it for you? I can't imagine anyone in this horrid city doing something out of the goodness of their heart."
"A long time ago, my parents were killed. It was as though the world was breaking apart. It felt like it was my fault. Like I could've prevented it entirely. The emptiness nearly swallowed me whole. I got through it with the help of a few great people. Maybe I could help you through too?"
"I have a friend here, Percy. I can't leave her."
"What if I took her in too?"
"And why would you do that? You've never even met her."
Bruce shrugged, "I got the space."
—————————————————————————
Dick couldn't believe this. First he got to meet Batman, then he got to get out of juvie.
"Percy! We're getting out of here!!"
She yelped in surprise, shouting back something Dick only partially understood.
Dick grabbed her shoulders and shook her, "Percy? Percy I can not understand what you are saying."
She blushed ever so slightly, "Sorry, this is a little out of the blue."
She really did like her blue idioms.
—————————————————————————
They walked out with Mr. Wayne and climbed into an unnecessarily long limo. Percy walked a step behind Dick, who carried the bag their few belongings were stored in. There was a man who Bruce introduced as Alfred the buttler. Perhaps this was one of the few great people.
"So, uh, what should we call you, Mr. Wayne?" Percy asked.
"Just call me Bruce." He replied easily, "Why don't you both tell me a little about yourselves?"
The car ride went on as they talked. The drive wasn't very long, but the time flew by.
"You have space? This is a castle, Mr. Wayne."
Alfred had prepped a pair of connecting rooms for them. Percy honestly hadn't noticed the door to the her room until Alfred opened it.
"Hey! You wanna play hide and seek later?" Dick whispered. Percy swore that he was hyperactive, even if she was the one actually diagnosed.
"Yeah, this place is huge!"
——————————————————
Dick walked into Percy's room and saw her on the bed, scribbling away in a small blue notebook.
"What are you doing?"
She blushed, "I was just writing something down."
Dick stared at the horizontal lines and indecipherable symbols.
"Is that another language? I can't read that."
"Well, yes but actually, no," she said with a laugh, "they are musical notes. My mom taught me to play the keyboard."
"That is so cool. Do you want to try and record it in the recording room Alfred showed us? He can probably help you."
"No, not really. It's just something that lets me remember mom."
————————————————————
They were eating dinner, which was great, as usual, since Alfred simply had to outdo himself every time he walked into the kitchen. Bruce cleared his throat and gave Dick a look, when his watched beeped. They both got up and walked away with a bullshit excuse, and disappeared.
Something that had been getting more and more frequent.
Percy was understandably hurt. It was one thing for Bruce Wayne to be closed off and emotionally distant, since he clearly hadn't had to live within close quarters with anyone other than Alfred in years. Plus, Alfred had his own quarters so that doesn't even count.
It was another thing altogether for Dick to act that way. Heaven knows that he was an extremely transparent person.
It wasn't a secret that it was only Dick who was to be taken in that day, and-
And she no longer thought that even Dick wanted her presence anymore.
The moment Bruce and Dick left the room was another fateful one.
It was, in fact, the moment Persephone Jackson decided was she was to run away.
=^.^= ( name this guy.)
Less than an hour later, Percy had packed her stuff, along with some cash, in a blue duffle bag.
She walked out to meet the duo when they came out of the office. Percy held out a glimmer of hope, praying that she could find a reason to stay.
That Dick would give her a reason to stay.
"That was a pretty long call just for Dick's school. What about me?"
Bruce said some pretty good lie that Percy would accepted once upon a time.
"Yeah, sure. Very convincing."
His eyes flashed with a look of surprise that anyone would have missed, if they hadn't been looking for it, but Dick's mouth dropped slightly, before flashing back, "Percy , it was important! Why are being so-so like this?"
"I don't know! You are keeping some secret and think I am an oblivious fool!"
Dick snapped back, "There are some things that don't involve you and you should respect that! If it's such a problem then back off!"
He just realised the implications of his words when Percy stormed into her room, sealing it shut.
She knew she wasn't wanted any longer, even if she once had.
She dropped her bag out the window and climbed out, ignoring Dick begging her to
"Open the door!"
————————————————————
After walking for some time, Percy found an abandoned apartment place and started climbing in. She liked water, but that doesn't mean that she wanted to spend all night shivering in the rain.
The apartment looked surprisingly nice.
For Gotham at least.
The front door was unsurprisingly locked, so she climbed the fire escape to enter through the rooftop entrance.
Percy made herself comfortable, it didn't look like the place had been used in a while, judging the layer of dust that covered everything.
It had been a couple of hours when a window slid open, and a deep voice reverberated through the house.
"Who's there?"
Percy looked up, and froze.
"Oh no. I'm sorry mister. I didn't know anyone used this place. I -I'll leave."
The tall man stepped closer, looking more like a predator than anything Percy had ever seen and holding a long blade out.
"You don't have anywhere to go." It didn't sound like a question, and Percy held her breath when the tip of his sword reached her throat.
"Well, do you?"
That sounded like a question, and Percy shook her head slowly, heart racing like never before. The man waited a moment, and sheathed his sword in a smooth motion.
"Stay the night in that couch and we'll see in the morning."
"You're not mad?" Percy asked timidly.
He chuckled, "Not really. More impressed than anything, kiddo."
"Impressed?"
"Most kids your size would've burst into tears long before my katana was out."
"Understandable. I've never been known to have good self preservation skills." She exhaled,
"Deathstroke."

There we have it, folks. What is this, version 3? 4? I don't know.
Here's to hoping I don't lose steam again. 🥂
