Chapter 26

He doesn't receive any message from her at all the entire day.

That was uncharacteristic of her, as it had become routine for her to send him a small message when she'd reached her dorm. Even when they didn't have time to meet up, they'd spend at least a few minutes texting, if they couldn't take a call because they were tired or otherwise engaged.

He hadn't gone a day without seeing her messages, and this period of silence was making him twitchy

However much he did want to message her and ask if she was alright, he always stopped himself at the last second. He knew his revelation must be confusing for her, and if going into hibernation for a while was what she needed, then he'd happily step back.

Well, maybe not happily...

He wouldn't call himself happy for resisting against all of his instincts that yelled at him to run after her or straight up go to her dorm. He instead decided to fill up his day with activities; practice, songwriting, singing, working, doing anything to keep himself moving.

This unease did not go unnoticed by his members.

They'd constantly throw him glances and looks, and on more than one occasion, he spotted them pulling Baekhyun and Yixing aside to ask them what was wrong. He turned away from it all and busied himself in the preparations of tomorrow's event.

Few of the iconic groups like Girl's Generation, f(x), SHINee, Super Junior and TVXQ had been given the opportunity to perform more than one song. EXO was one of the groups, and they'd chosen music from their Christmas albums to sing,

One was from their newest winter themed album, and they'd been given the choice for the other.

"Should we sing Miracles in December?" Chanyeol suggested.

"It is one that most people know," Jongdae agreed.

"I think we should just sing Love Me Right or Monster," Jongin suggested.

"They aren't seasonally appropriate now, are they?" Minseok pointed out.

"But they're iconic," Jongin insisted.

"What do you think, Baekhyun-ah?" Yixing turned to the younger.

Baekhyun held his chin for a moment. "I think we should let Suho-hyung decide," he said. He received hums of approval from the rest of the members.

"Yeah, we should."

"That's a good idea."

"Hyung won't let us down."

"What should we sing?" Chanyeol directed the question to Junmyeon.

The older idol looked up from his notes. "Let's perform Sing for You," he said.

Baekhyun's eyes widened. "Hyung, are you sure?"

Junmyeon nodded. "Let's do it. Our second song will be Sing for You."

While the others cheered and agreed and talked among themselves, Junmyeon felt Baekhyun's brown gaze burning into him. He ignored it, instead choosing to answer Sehun's questions.

Because of all of his members, Baekhyun was the only one who truly knew what was going on.

When they arrive at the location, he manages to get just a small glimpse of Apink before they're whisked away to prepare.

He waited by hair and makeup for the first group to come out as Baekhyun came over and sat down beside him.

"You know Eunji is here, don't you?" he simply asked.

Junmyeon nodded. "Of course."

"You going to talk to her?" Baekhyun asked.

"Not if she doesn't want to."

"You know she's going to avoid you all day, right?"

"Uh huh."

"And you're not going to do anything?"

"Not today. Not on live TV."

Baekhyun seemed to reluctantly buy his excuse, and the universe also seemed to be on his side as right at the moment, Chanyeol came out dressed, freeing up the space for Baekhyun to go and get ready.

However, not a minute had passed since Baekhyun left when Junmyeon realized that the looks Chanyeol was giving him were filled with concern.

He sighed. He'd take Baekhyun again in a heartbeat.

INFINITE walked off the stage to applause after finishing their performance of "White Confession." They greeted the groups that were waiting as they made their way to the back before they came upon their final group, Apink.

After greeting the six girls, they made their way past, however Hoya hung back.

"Eunji-ah, can I talk to you for a moment?" he asked her.

She nodded. "Sure, oppa."

He took her aside. "What's this about?" she asked him.

He pointed with his head to EXO, on the other side of the stage, getting on as they were the next performers. "It's been an hour and a half since the program started," Hoya said. "Are you avoiding Suho?"

"Huh?" she asked, dumbfounded. Once she registered the question, she quickly shook her hands and head. "No, no, you've got it wrong. I'm not avoiding him, I'm just..."

"Just what, Eunji?" he asked, folding his arms across his chest as he leaned against the wall. "Did something happen between you two?"

She turned away from him. "Why are you so worried about my love life?"

"If you didn't want me to be so worried, you shouldn't have told me everything in the first place," he pointed out.

She turned around. "You didn't...?"

"I'm the only one who knows," he assured her. "Your secret was always going to be safe with me."

She visibly relaxed. "Thanks for not telling anyone," she said.

He narrowed his eyes at her. "That's not the point," he said. "I've been observing you, Jung Eunji. You're avoiding Suho."

She opened her mouth to protest when Heechul and Leetuk stepped forward, announcing that they were back on air and the Christmas Live would continue with EXO's special performance. She then noticed that the place they were standing was in direct view of the stage, which meant that not only could she see them, but they could also see her.

And it seemed Junmyeon found her, casting her a look which she really couldn't decipher as he sat down on his stool and the guitar began strumming.

"I will hold my old guitar,
the confession I could not make,
Or the stories I persistently swallowed."

She had originally turned to continue talking to Hoya, but the first few bars of the song caught her attention.

"As if I just made a song,
I am trying to say it now,
Just listen, I'll sing for you."

She hadn't really kept up with EXO's music that much, and this song seemed so long ago. She couldn't place when it was from or its name. All she knew was that it was captivating her.

"I love you so much,
but I don't say it out loud,
awkward, my pride won't allow it."

Baekhyun's verse made her perk up. She saw Baekhyun looking at all the people there, but when his eyes fell on her his smile fell, only for a fraction of a second. It was then that she realized what this song was about.

It was a confession.

"Today I will be brave and say it,
Just casually listen, I'll sing for you."

It was then that she met Junmyeon's gaze, a gaze he hadn't taken off her since the start of the performance. As he sang, it was like he was singing to her.

He was confessing, officially, properly, on live TV.

"The way you cry, the way you smile,
I wonder how big they mean to me,
The words I wanted to say, the words I missed."

"I'll confess, but just listen,
I'll sing for you, sing for you."

"Just listen to it once and smile."

She felt her something clutching at her heart as other singers sang the words that were meant for her. Yes, she was absolutely sure this song was meant for her, and having the rest of the EXO members, also singing it, was causing something to stir in her.

"It's a little funny right?
To me, there's only you."

Junmyeon never took his eyes off her as he sang. Even though his parts were small, even though he was singing with Jongin, he put his everything into it.

"The way you cry, the way you smile,
I wonder how big they mean to me,
The words I regretted as I turned away."

Baekhyun hoped his senior's feelings were getting across, even though he wasn't the one exactly singing them. He hoped he was singing with enough emotion to bridge the gap. On the side, he also hoped that she'd see his side of the story, the side that watched his brother suffer in silence.

"I will apologize but just listen,
I'll sing for you, sing for you."

"Just pretend like nothing's wrong."

Her eyes widened at his last line, a small plead. The words he said came back to her.

Just know, whatever your decision, where we are, I'm happy.

She finally understood what he was saying: "You can call off the relationship if you want, but I hope we can still be friends."

"The words I wanted to say,
The words I missed."

"I'll confess, and even if it's a little awkward,
Just listen, I'll sing for you, sing for you."

The last part seemed to surprise a lot of people, since it was originally Jongdae's part. However, it wasn't Jongdae who was singing it.

It was Junmyeon.

"Just listen, I'll sing for you." Baekhyun finished the song perfectly.

As they started to play the piano track for their next song, he finally, finally, tore his eyes away from hers.

It was then that she felt scared, alone.

She felt the fear creeping u her heart, and before she knew it, she was pushing past Hoya to get to her dressing room as she heard Baekhyun sing the first few words of their next song.

"A mystery came to me,

with the face of an angel,
Your warmth..."

A/N: Here is the scene that inspired this entire story! I've been waiting so long to write this!

I'm not the biggest fan of just dropping lyrics into the middle of a story, but I tried to use it this one time to help drive the story.

And look at me just inserting my bias group into every random story...he he.

Thanks for all the constant support!
