Phoenix Wright vs Makoto Neigi
Requested by DTW123348
Ace Attorney faces Dangan Ronpa in a thrilling murder mystery as two of the toughest detectives prepares to take on the toughest cases!
Phoenix Wright
Strength
Managed to push aside several guards
Has tackled down doors
Can seemingly lay down the truth so hard that it knocked Frank Sahwit back...
....as well as shake the court.....
....he even shattered Manfred Von Karma's cane by doing this.
In Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, can attack by pointing, sneezing, throwing papers at foes, etc.
Can attack in a similar fashion in Project X-Zone 2
Durability
Barely reacts to hot coffee being tossed onto him by Godot
(Mostly) shrugs off whip slashes from Franziska Von Karma
Taken a beating from Furio Tigre and Jean Armstrong
Been tased to unconsciousness with a 600,000 volt taser
Has been clobbered with a fire extinguisher
He had amnesia for a bit afterwards though
Survived being pounced by a tiger
Chewed up and swallowed a glass necklace with traces of poison in it with no ill effect
Fell from a burning bridge into a freezing, raging river.
This river has a reputation of sweeping away those who fall into it forever
He survives this, but with a severe cold
Has been hit by a car, thrown thirty feet, and hit his head on a telephone pole
Only sustained a sprained ankle as an injury
Tanked a TNT explosion (followed by Luke Triton falling on his back)
Abilities
Magatama
A Kurain artifact
Infused with spiritual energy from Pearl Fey
Allows the user to see when someone is hiding something
In Project X-Zone 2, is infused with magic from Morrigan Aensland
Maya also asked for Wright to be "able to lay a big ol' objection" on his foes, and "to be as strong as the Steel Samurai"
The source for his abilities (at least in canon and Project X-Zone 2)
Psyche-Locks
Locks to the heart
Appear when someone is lying
The Magatama's user must use evidence and logic to break these locks and have the witness confess.
In Project X-Zone 2, the shattering of them causes damage to foes
Different Modes
In Ulltimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, has three different styles of combat
Investigation Mode is more focused on keeping enemies back and gathering evidence
Trial Mode is a more offensive style, based on presenting evidence to attack
If Wright lands an "OBJECTION!" with three good pieces of evidence in Trial Mode, he goes into Turnabout Mode, where he is extremely powerful and his range is extended, making him almost unstoppable on the offence
Turnabout Mode lasts for a limited amount of time, and when it's over, he will be back into Investigation Mode with no evidence
Can switch between Trial and Investigation Mode at any time
Speech Bubbles
Yells these....
Has two.
"HOLD IT!"
Can be used in Investigation or Trial Mode
In Investigation Mode, is a fairly offensive attack
In Trial Mode, retains it's nature from Investigation Mode, but can freeze enmies for a moment if used enough
"OBJECTION!"
Can be used in Trial or Turnabout Mode
In Trial Mode, is a very good offensive attack, and using it with three good pieces of evidence will take him to Turnabout Mode
In Turnabout Mode, gains a power boost
Evidence
Essentially his ammo in a courtroom
In Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, creates projectiles Wright can use in Trial or Turnabout Mode
The Knife creates three small projectiles that fly forward
The Watch creates a fairly fast and durable ball-like projectile that goes a decent amount of distance
The Folder creates a ball-like projectile that moves slow but floats above Phoenix, allowing a good way to block aerial assaults
The Vase creates a fast projectile that flies in an upward diagonal direction
The Photo creates a very fast projectile that deals decent damage, however it is fairly easy to avoid
The Phone create three projectiles balls that stay in front or Wright for a bit, before quickly homing towards the enemy
Can hold up to three pieces of evidence in a fight
Can only be gathered in Investigation Mode
Runs the risk of finding bad evidence
Can get rid of bad evidence by tossing it at the enemy
In Project X-Zone 2, can freeze enemies in place
Steel Samurai and Pink Princess
The heroes of Neo-Olde Tokyo
Project X-Zone 2, can summon them
However, all they ever seem to do is lunge toward the opponent
Missile
A dog that belongs to the Criminal Affairs Department
In Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, can be called on by Wright to quickly lunge at the foe
Order in the Court
His level 2 super in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
Summons a nightmare version of the judge, who slams a giant gaval down on the battlefield.
Can be used in Trial and Turnabout Mode
If used in Trial Mode, will get rid of any bad evidence and send him back into Investigation Mode
Ace Attorney
His level 3 super in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
Can only be used during Turnabout Mode
Convicts the enemy, presents the evidence to convict them, and finishes them off with a "TAKE THAT!" speech bubble.
One of the most powerful supers in that game
Automatically ends Turnabout Mode
Feats
Has won many seemingly hopeless cases
Manages to effectively do his job, even when under extreme pressure (whether from the circumstances around the case, or from constant pressure from the prosecution)
As a rookie, managed to best legendary prosecutor Manfred Von Karma and solve the fifteen year old DL-6 case
Stopped Police Chief Damon Gant's manipulation of the law
Saved Maya from Shelly De Killer and stopped Matt Engarde at the same time
Managed to prove Prosecutor Godot guilty of Misty Fey's murder
Hadn't lost a poker game for seven straight years
Worth noting that he brought in his daughter Trucy to help for the most important games
Acted as a mentor for Apollo Justice and Athena Cykes
Managed to outsmart and convict Kristoph Gavin, the man who caused Wright to lose his badge
Proved the Phantom responsible for the UR-1 Incident
Alongside Professor Hershel Layton, solved the mystery behind Labyrinthia
Defended Galactus in court (non-canon)
Weakness
Very inexperienced in physical combat
To a point where most of his abilities come from non-canon games like Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Project X-Zone 2
For the most part, human
Tend to argue about step-ladders
Tends to rely on luck or bluffing
Can be a bit bumbling at times
Can't play the piano
Investigation Mode offers little offensive game, leaving him open
Needs to gather evidence over time (and runs the risk of finding bad evidence)
Turnabout Mode is limited, and once it's over, he is back to his vulnerable Investigation Mode
Ace Attorney automatically ends the already limited Turnabout Mode
Makato Neigi
Intelligence
Very hopeful
Impressive memory
Superb observation skills
Feats
Solved the murder of several of his colleagues, even in a lock room murder
Uncovered the strange going ons at high school
With Kirigiri's help, able to outsmart and bring down Junko Enoshima
Excellent memory and superb observation skills
He's literally rebranded as "Ultimate Hope" by the end of the game, and becomes the pure embodiment of hope.
Weakness
Still a normal human
Little to no combat experience
Often needs help from Togami or Kirigiri
Fight
A mock city. Towering skyscrapers emblazoned with neon "MONOKUMATROPOLIS" signs looked over the empty streets below. It was the setting of another one of Monokuma's games of Mutual Killing. This time, he had abducted a range of skilled people, including defense lawyer Phoenix Wright and lucky student Makoto Naegi.
The city was, for the most part, closed off.
16 people stood in the center, a large park labeled "Monokuma Park". Various trees and fauna dotted the grassy plains of the park.
In the center was a large courthouse, where trials would be held.
To the south of the park was the residential district, which also contained a shopping center.
The residential district housed one small, three-story hotel, and not much else.
The district was barren had an oppressive, prison-like atmosphere, which contradicted the homely, European hotel where the captives had spent several nights.
The captives, and therefore suspects, this time around are as follows:
Males:
Ultimate Defense Lawyer - Phoenix Wright
Ultimate Lucky Student - Makoto Naegi
Ultimate Journalist - Phillip Penn
Ultimate Engineer - Nicholas Teslam
Ultimate Pilot - Vincent Visor
Ultimate Fisherman - Marlin Finn
Ultimate Librarian - Turner Reids
Ultimate Boxer - Johnny Thunder
Females:
Ultimate Spy - Jamie Bond
Ultimate Mathematician - Alessandra Fibbonaci
Ultimate Cosplayer - Misuki-chan
Ultimate Assassin - Marcia Robespierre
Ultimate Voice-Actress - Sofia Voz
Ultimate Botanist - Flora Petals
Ultimate Merchant - Anna Bullion
Ultimate Doctor - Jeanne Home
The Monokuma Hotel is shown.
It's three stories tall. Upon further inspection, it is revealed that the the bottom floor consists of a foyer, a livingroom, a kitchen, dining rooms, bathroom, etc.
On the second and third floors, you'll find only a common room and hallways containing hotel rooms.
On the west side of the building, the top two floors house the males.
There are four rooms per hallway, making a total of eight rooms on the west side.
A similar set up is on the east side, though these are for girls only. The camera pans to room 202, in the boy's dorm.
A keycard reader sits mounted to the door. In fact, a keycard reader sits at every door, including the doors to get into the dorm hallways.
Inside room 202, Phoenix Wright stares solemnly at the ceiling.
His frustration with the situation is written across his features. His brow is furrowed, as if deep in thought.
Directly above, in room 302, Makoto Naegi absentmindedly plays with his keycard. It has a picture of himself on it, as well as his name and his "Ultimate" title.
His face shows no sign of discomfort.
Instead, it's a face of boredom.
Makato says aloud, for no one to hear but the audience.
Makato: It's been nearly a month already, there have been no murders. Why won't Monokuma let us go? What's the point?
His phone rings.
It's an alarm.
The display reads "12:00, time for lunch".
He wasn't hungry, but they had all agreed to meet up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
This would, apparently, build bonds between the group and allow them to discuss their situation. It was Makoto's idea.
At the kitchen, person after person enters and sits down.
They greet each other and discuss menial things as they make lunch.
Phoenix takes a seat next to Makoto, and in time the whole dining table is filled. Almost.
The Ultimate Doctor, Jeanne Home, is noticeably missing.
Makoto is the first to notice.
Makoto: Where's Jeanne?
Sofia Voz, the Ultimate Voice Actress, speaks up.
Her voice was soothing and clear, a voice certainly built for acting.
Sofia: Probably running a bit late. She was late to the tennis court this morning, too. Probably just a bit out of it today. Who can blame her? You probably shouldn't worry about it.
The group continues on with their meal, and sure enough, Jeanne Home shows up an hour later. By that time, most of the students had finished their meals, but stayed to chat and ponder their captive situation.
Vincent Visor, The Ultimate Pilot, says.
Vincent: Finally decided to show up, eh?
He was a large bear of a man.
Toast crumbs and butter mingled in his thick, auburn beard.
Jeanne displays clear confusion, but laughs it off and sits down.
The morning continues as usual, and with time the students leave one by one.
Back in his room, Phoenix stares solemnly at his magatama.
Once brimming with a green aura, it now sits cold and lifeless on his desk.
He scowls and throws himself onto his bed, deep in thought.
He spent most days like this, locked in his room, frustrated with his captivity.
He originally started keeping a journal, but the humdrum of captive life meant that the pages were filled with redundancy.
That was the worst of it. The boredom. The anticipation, and the anxiety.
It was as if he was only biding his time before blood was finally shed.
That was the point of the game, after all. This sadistic game.
He receives a knock on his door. It's Makoto.
He and Makoto had formed a tight friendship, one of the only things he or Makoto could list as a positive in their desperate situation.
Makoto often spent his time talking to the other students. He shared stories and experiences, and enjoyed learning more about the others.
He often spent several hours just talking to someone.
Phoenix lets him in and he takes a seat at Phoenix's desk. The magatama catches his eye.
Makoto: What is this?
Phoenix: You wouldn't believe me even if I told you.
Makoto: Try me.
Phoenix gives a deep sigh and he explains.
Phoenix: A kid gave it to me a long time ago. It's sort of like...Well, it's like a lie detector.
Makoto's eyes shoot open,
Makoto: No way! This thing can tell if you're lying?
Phoenix: Well, not anymore. It runs on magic. Or, er, spiritual energy.
Makoto: Are you messing with me?"
Phoenix: It's not the most unbelievable thing I've witnessed.
That particular conversation ends there. A few minutes pass in a not-so-uneasy silence, before Phoenix speaks up again.
Phoenix: Monokuma's kind of a strange character, isn't he? I mean, he locks us up in here, forces us to play a game with specific rules...What's the point?
The rules. Each student was given a "rulebook of sorts". Makoto went over them in his head.
Rule 1: Students must reside in the City. Leaving the City is absolutely prohibited.
Rule 2: "Nighttime" is from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Some areas are off limits at night, so please exercise caution.
Rule 3: Violence against Mayor Monokuma is strictly prohibited, as is destruction of surveillance cameras.
Rule 4: Anyone who kills a fellow student and becomes "blackened" will graduate, unless they are discovered.
Rule 5: Once a murder takes place, a class trial will begin shortly thereafter. Participation is mandatory for all surviving students.
Rule 6: If the guilty party is exposed during the class trial, they alone will be executed.Otherwise, all remaining students will be executed.
Rule 7: Forcefully opening the door of a student's hotel room is strictly prohibited.
Rule 8: The body discovery announcement will appear after 3 persons have found a corpse of someone murdered by a fellow classmate.
Rule 9: Additional school regulations may be added as necessary.
Rule 10: Violation of any of these rules will result in immediate execution.
Makoto: Strange that he still refers to all of us as students, despite some of us being to old to be students of any kind.
Makoto eyes Phoenix as he says this.
Their conversation continues like this, and they share trivial anecdotes before Makoto leaves.
Several, uneventful hours pass before the clock hits 6:00 PM.
Dinner time. The students make their way down to the kitchen/dining area.
Once again, Jeanne Home is missing. In addition, Alessandra Fibonacci is nowhere to be found.
The Ultimate Merchant, Anna Bullion, says. Her hair is a deep red and she speaks in a spunky, bouncy tone.
Anna: Two people now? What could they be up to?
Nicholas: Probably nothing."
Nicholas Teslam, the Ultimate Engineer, says.
He seems aloof and indifferent, his attention more focused on his food.
Sofia Viz says
Sofai: Actually, Alessandra isn't feeling well. She asked me to send her some dinner using the dumbwaiter.
Upon saying this, she brings an extra plate she had made and placed it into the dumbwaiter, a device for moving objects between floors.
The Journalist, Phillip Penn asks
Phillip: What's wrong with her?
His voice was smooth and oddly authoritative.
Sofia: A stomach bug or something. Nothing major but she's confined to her room.
As the dumbwaiter reached the second floor, it let out a loud ding sound, loud enough for the students on floor one to hear it.
Sofia returns to her table and continued her meal.
The students enjoy light conversation in peace for an hour, until Jeanne's absence starts to bug them.
Anna: She still isn't here?
Anna asks.
Marcia says.
Marcia: It's been nearly an hour now. Probably longer.
Vincent: You don't think that...
Vincent doesn't finish his sentence.
Phoenix feels his heart sink. Almost like intuition, he feels his gut turning.
Phoenix: I'm going to look for her.
He stands up from his seat in a hurry and dashes out of the kitchen.
Makoto: Me too
Makoto says
Makoto follows suit.
Without exchanging words, they throw open every door they can find and check in each room. They search tirelessly, but to no avail.
They even check the shopping district, and the park, but she's nowhere to be found.
Phoenix while panting heavily, asks.
Phoenix: Where could she be?
Makoto: The girl's dorm is the only place we haven't checked. Maybe she's just...
DING DONG DING DONG
The melody plays from the loudspeakers and telescreens littered throughout the city. A familiar, sinister voice booms out.
???: We got a corpse here! A Class Trial will be starting soon, so get a move on!
Phoenix says under his breath.
Phoenix: ....No...
Makoto's skin turns pale, and without speaking, he runs off towards the hotel.
Phoenix follows.
As they enter the building, they hear commotion in the living room.
In the room, the students surround an antique chest.
Makoto and Phoenix push past the students, and inside the chest, they see the lifeless body of Jeanne Home.
INVESTIGATION
Before anyone can have a chance to react, Monokuma appears as if from thin air. His voice is the same that boomed from the speakers earlier: Playful and sinister.
Monokuma: Well, well, well, looks like the two stars are here! Shame what happened to Jeanne, isn't it?
Makoto: You...You're the reason this happened!
Monokuma: Upupupu...Now now, Naegi. You should be used to this by now. You know the drill.
He produces an electronic file, again from apparently nowhere.
Monokuma: The Monokuma File!
He begins dancing around the room, handing a File to each frightened student.
In some moments, his steps are heavy and clumsy, like a toddler learning how to dance.
Yet in others, he moved with a fluidity that borders on ballerina-like elegance.
The boxer, Johnny Thunder, speaks up. His accent suggests an upbringing in New Jersey.
Johnny: Hey, fuzzball! Just what the hell is this!
Monokuma: Oh, you don't know? Oh right, guess I forgot to explain! The Monokuma File is an autopsy report.
Marcia: Autopsy report. You mean this explains how she died?
Marcia, the Assassin, speaks in a cold, almost lifeless, monotone.
Monokuma: Uh, duh. What else would an autopsy report tell ya? Anyway, y'all should really give that good a lookings-over. The Trial will start in a few hours!
Without another word, the bear disappears without a trace.
Phoenix: The Monokuma File...
Phoenix examines the file, his eyes displaying a keen curiosity.
MONOKUMA FILE
VICTIM: Jeanne Home
CAUSE OF DEATH: Pierced through the heart with a sharp object. The object pierced through her entire body.
Several bruises on the face and arms. There are no other external injuries.
He kneels down in front of the body. Her body is limp, unmoving. The injuries listed in the Monokuma File were consistent with the state of the body. A heavy bed sheet was wrapped tightly around her abdomen.
Phoenix: This sheet...Was it to stop the bleeding? But why would...
Makoto: It's weird, isn't it? The fact that she was in the chest at all.
Phoenix: Yeah...And along with this sheet...It's almost like the killer didn't want the body to be found.
Makoto: And the fact that she was in this room. Right here in the livingroom. It's bizarre.
Phoenix gives a slight nod, and continues to examine the body. As if he realized something important, he checks the Monokuma File again. He reads it over, and nods to himself, but says nothing.
Makoto turns to the other students, most of which seem to be too frightened to move.
Makoto: After Phoenix and I left to check the other rooms, what did the rest of you do?
The Ultimate Spy, Jamie, answers. She spoke with a distinct British accent.
Jamie: We broke off into groups of three. I went with Marcia and Misuki-chan.
Johnny: Yeah, I was with Marlin and Turner.
Sofia: Flora, Anna, and I searched together.
Phillip: Nicholas, Vincent, and I all headed off together. I opened this chest here and...Well, you know.
Makoto: And Alessandra's still missing...
Makoto turns his attention back to Jeanne's body. He kneels down next to Phoenix and looks sympathetically at Jaqnne's lifeless face.
Makoto: Who could do this...I swear...I swear I'll find who did this to you...
He scans the rest of her body, and his eyes stop at her wrist. Particularly, her wristwatch. It was shattered, and the hands had stopped moving. The hands were frozen in place, at 6:32.
Makoto: I wonder if...Hm...Phoenix, do you think that-
With a sudden boom, Monokuma enters the room.
Monokuma: Whoa there, Naegi, might wanna keep some observations to yourself!
Makoto: What do you mean?
Monokuma: Because this isn't just a normal investigation. This ain't any ol' Class Trial! This is Class Trial: Death Battle Edition!
Phoenix: D-Death Battle?
Monokuma: Rightamundo! You two are gonna be going against each other!
Makoto: What are you saying?
Monokuma: I'm saying...I'm adding a new rule! Whoever ends up figuring out who did it first...Whoever performs the best during the Class Trial, is the winner of the Death Battle! And whoever doesn't is the, well, loser. And you don't wanna be the loser.
Phoenix: What happens to the loser?
Monokuma: Upupupu...Guess.
Makoto: ...
Phoenix: ...
Monokuma: Dzzt! Time's up! I kill ya, of course!
Phoenix: Damn it...
Makoto: Wh-Why me and Phoenix?
Monokuma: I dunno, why not? Isn't that kinda fun?
He disappears before anything else could be said.
Makoto: ...Anyway, her wristwatch has been broken. Have you noticed? The hands are stuck at 6:32.
Phoenix: Wait, wh-what about...
Makoto: About what Monokuma just told us? Who cares? It's better if we're both playing with a full deck, anyway. If we keep information from each other then we might not solve the murder at all.
Phoenix: Right...Right, of course. Ultimately our goal is to find the real killer. But once the Trial starts...
Makoto: Yes. That's where our Battle begins.
They exchange a knowing glance.
Phoenix: 6:32, huh? It's almost 7:30 now...
Makoto closed in eyes, as if in thought.
Makoto: Okay. I'm going to investigate.
Phillip: Investigate where?
Makoto: I'll check out Jeanne's room. There may be some clues there.
Sofia: What about the body? What should...That is to say, what if someone messes with it?
Johnny: I'll stay and guard it.
Vincent: I'll stay, too. Can't be havin' anybody tamperin' with evidence.
Marcia: I guess I'll stick around as well.
Makoto: Perfect.
Phoenix: I'm going to go find Alessandra. I need to question her.
Makoto: You suspect her?
Phoenix: I think it's more than reasonable to suspect her at this point, but I don't want to jump to conclusions.
Makoto: Then it's settled.
Phoenix and Makoto walk together to the girl's dorm. It was left open, no doubt by the courtesy of Monokuma. Phoenix heads to the second floor, where Alessandra's room was located. Makoto heads up to the third floor, the room of Jeanne Home.
Makoto's Investigation
Room 303. Jeanne Home's room. Makoto tries the knob, but it doesn't budge.
Makoto: Locked?
He remembers the rule. The rule that says he can't force his way into hotel rooms.
Makoto: Monokuma!
On command, the bear shows up out of nowhere.
Monokuma: What do you need now? I was wrestling with a beehive for its honey when you called!
Makoto: Just open this door for me.
Monokuma: Aw, not even gonna say the magic words?
Makoto: I don't have time for this, Monokuma.
Monokuma: Yeesh! You trap a guy in a school and force him watch his classmates die, then do it again in a city and suddenly you're the bad guy! Kids these days, I tell ya.
Monkuma pulls out a small device with a red button on it, and presses it dramatically, as if giving the command to launch a missile in some kind of cartoon. A small whir, and a click, and the door swings wide open.
Makoto: Thank you.
Monokuma: See ya!
Monokuma disappears. Makoto enters the room and quickly eyeballs his surroundings. It looks very much like his room or any other room in the building; A bed, a desk, a closet, shelves, and other such things. The only difference being, deep crimson blood splattered the far wall, near a window.
Makoto: (I get it now. This blood. It must be Jeanne's.)
His eyes focus on the bed, which is covered in blood.
Makoto: This bed...
Makoto makes his way over to the bed. Its comforters and pillows are strewn across the ground in a haphazard fashion.
Makoto: ...No bedsheet. So there's blood from the bed all the way to window. Hmmm.
The window catches his eye.
Makoto: How did I not see this before?
The window is shattered. Glass shards litter the floor in front of it.
Makoto looks out broken window, careful not to cut himself on any of the glass. Below is a closed in car lot, with no cars, obviously. A couple ladders and dumpsters clutter the far end of the lot.
Makoto: I'll have to check there later. But for now...
He kneels down and inspects the glass shards on the ground. The shards are large and tough, strong enough to resist quite a bit of force.
Makoto: Just what kind of glass is this...Not only that, but...Is some of the glass...Missing? Must've fallen out the window. Yeah...Anyway...
Next he inspects the shelves. They're empty, save for a cute tiger doll. Makoto inspects it with childlike delight for a few seconds before returning to the shelf.
Makoto: Nothing here.
He turns back to the room, and notices a small piece of cloth poking out from under the bed. He looks, and finds piles upon piles of clothes and boxes of hidden underneath the bed.
Makoto: What are these doing here? Why not use the closet?
He throws the closet door open in confusion. It's almost completely empty inside, save for a couple jackets and shirts, as well as a few pairs of shoes.
Makoto: Wh-What is this? What kind of room is this?
He closes the door and closes his eyes to think, but can't think of an answer.
Makoto: Damn it! This makes no sense.
He wanders aimlessly around the room, but finds no more clues.
(Stop music)
Makoto: I guess that's it. If I had to guess, I'd say this is where she was murdered. But even then, there are so many unanswered questions...Why is the window broken? Why is the closet empty, and why have its contents been shoved under the bed? Hm...
He ponders for several minutes.
Makoto: ...I guess I'll go check on Phoenix.
He makes his way down to the second floor, where he sees Phoenix standing outside Alessandra's door, looking confused.
Makoto: Did you talk to her?
Phoenix: Ah...Yeah. She's just...Acting a bit suspicious is all.
Phoenix explained his conversation with Alessandra.
Makoto: Hm...Well, I found a few interesting things in Jeanne's room, to say the least.
Phoenix: Like?
Makoto: For starters, it was likely the murder scene. There was blood...Everywhere. The window was shattered, and the contents of the closet were shoved underneath the bed.
Phoenix: ...Is that so? That's...Odd.
Makoto: I know. Well, in any case, I have some place to check out. I'll try to catch up with you before the Trial starts.
Phoenix: Yep. See you then, Makoto.
(Cues Box 16)
Makoto heads off to the lot behind the hotel. It's empty, for the most part. There are several parking spaces for cars that would never arrive. A few trees and bushes brightened up the place. There is a clutter of ladders and few dumpsters, as well as a pile of bricks. He notices a piece of metal sticking out from a dumpster at the far end.
Makoto: Is this...
He pulls the object out, which turns out being longer than he thought it would be. It's a large wooden pole with a sharp arrowhead. In other words, a spear. The tip is painted red with blood.
Makoto: Hm...Then this is...
He puts the spear back and checks the other dumpsters. Most are filled with cement, like they're just props that were never meant to be used. The one he found the spear in was as well, and only had space enough to fit something as thin as a spear into.
He turns his attention to the only other thing in the lot: A collection of ladders in a corner.
Makoto: Ladders...Or, I guess to be more specific, step-ladders...
He notices a smear of blood on of the ladders.
Makoto: What the-What is blood doing on a ladder? I...Hm...
He takes the ladder, which is actually very large, over to the hotel. It takes some effort, but he props it up in front of Jeanne's window. It reaches all the way to her window. He carefully climbs up the ladder, which is very rickety and feels as if it could collapse at any moment.
Makoto: ...Just as I thought. Then that means...
He smiled to himself. He began making connections, and he could feel his adrenaline pumping.
Makoto: That looks like all there is to this place...And I'm not really sure where else to check. There wasn't anything suspicious looking when Phoenix and I searched for Jeanne, so...I guess the only thing left to do is wait...
(Stop music)
He returns to the living room, where he finds Phoenix, who seemed to have just finished a conversation with Johnny Thunder.
Phoenix's Investigation
(Cues Investigation ~ The Core 2001)
Phoenix walks into the floor two hallway, but before he can make it to Alessandra's room, something catches his eye.
Phoenix: Isn't this...The dumbwaiter?
The dumbwaiter was installed into the wall, as the girl's dorm was directly above the kitchen.
Phoenix: And this is...Alessandra's lunch...It hasn't been touched. That's odd...
He makes a few notes in his journal, which he personally labeled "Court Record", and moves on to Room 202, Alessandra's Fibbonaci's room. He knocks on it. Hard.
...
There's no answer.
He knocks harder and yells for her.
Phoenix: Alessandra! Open up! Are you in there?
He continues to lay it hard on the door, until the door finally swings open, and Alessandra stands in the doorway confused.
Alessandra: Phoenix, aha, what's up? Sorry, I was listening to music...Why is your face so red?
Phoenix pants heavily.
Alessandra: As a matter of fact, how are you even here? I thought only girls were allowed here...
Phoenix catches his breath.
Alessandra: Did something happen?
He gives her an inquisitive look.
Phoenix: Are you serious? Did you...I mean, are you really not aware...
Alessandra: What, what? Spit it out!
Phoenix: Jeanne Home is dead.
Alessandra's face turns pale. She reflexively steps back, and her breaths become shaky and heavy.
Phoenix: You...You didn't know?
Alessandra: No, I...Oh God...
Phoenix: How did you not know? There was a body discovery announcement and...
Alessandra: How did she die?
Phoenix: Eh? Uh, well...
Alessandra: Was it murder? Oh God, did someone kill her? Oh God, oh God...
Phoenix: ...Can I come in? I can tell you all about it.
She nods silently. She walks with shaky legs over to her bed, and the both sit down.
Alessandra: Tell me...Tell me what happened.
Phoenix explains how they waited at the dinner table for Jeanne to show up, and she never did. He explains how he and Makoto searched all around, and how the students eventually found her body in an antique chest in the living room.
Alessandra: Oh my...So...It was murder, then. Someone...Someone stabbed her...Someone...Someone killed Jeanne...
Phoenix: Were you close?
Alessandra: No...No, not really. Jeanne, she...Jeanne is, or...Was a very private individual. Her only real friend was Johnny.
Phoenix: Johnny? Really?
Alessandra: Yeah. You can ask him about it. Anyway...She stayed in her room most days. Sofia invited her to play tennis with herself, Jamie, Marcia and me, but she never played. She just came and watched.
Phoenix: ...Speaking of which, I seem to remember Sofia saying she was late this morning.
Alessandra: Ah, yeah, she was. I'm not sure by how long. Probably about an hour.
Phoenix: (Hm...)
Alessandra: She never opened her door for anyone. It was like she wanted to shut out the world. She would of course show up to meals, and she tried to be friendly there, but other than that...Sofia and I, we...We wanted to be friends with her. And now...
She pauses to collect herself. Phoenix takes this opportunity to speak.
Phoenix: I understand. Alessandra, trust me, I'll find whoever did this. When I stop and think that the person who did this to Jeanne is here in this building...
Alessandra: ...I know.
Phoenix stands up from the bed and gives a cursory glance around the room. Her room seems very ordinary. Her desk is cluttered with large and complicated looking mathematics textbooks, an MP3 player with unreasonably large headphones, containers filled with pens and pencils and devices for measuring angles and creating circles. He notices a cute hippo doll on a shelf.
Phoenix: This is cute. Where's it from?
Alessandra: Ah...Jamie gave it to me. She got it from the shopping district, I think.
His eyes focus on a small wastebasket by her bed side. A crumpled piece of paper is inside it, and there's enough writing showing to catch Pheonix's attention.
Phoenix: I see. One last question for you. What did you need a hunting spear for?
He reaches the wastebasket and produces a receipt from Monokuma Market. It contains a whole list of items, a hunting spear among them. The date of purchase was yesterday.
(Stop music)
She looks at him with a blank stare.
Alessandra: ...I think you should get going, Phoenix. You should investigate someone else.
Phoenix: I don't think-
Alessandra: Get out of my room, Phoenix.
She motions him out and slams the door.
Phoenix: What the...That was out of nowhere.
As he thought this, Makoto rounded the corner.
Makoto: Got anything, Phoenix?
Phoenix: Well...
He an Makoto share what they've learned. They exchange a few extra words and then Makoto heads off in a different direction.
Phoenix: I should probably talk to Johnny.
He walks to the livingroom, where Johnny and Vincent are watching the body. Several of the other students had also stuck around, apparently after finishing their own individual investigations.
Phoenix: Where'd Marcia go?
Johnny: Eh? She went to go check on somethin' or other...Eh, I dunno, she said she wanted to investigate.
Phoenix: (What an obnoxious way to answer a straightforward question...) Johnny, can I talk to you? In private?
Johnny: ...You want to hear about my relationship with Jeanne? You suspect me, do ya!?
Phoenix: N-No, I just-
Johnny: You frickin' lawyers are all the same. Wastin' my time. Get over yourself.
Phoenix: (What I wouldn't give for the Magatama right now...Oh well, I guess I'll do without it.) Johnny, please. I don't suspect you. I promise. I just...I need to know more about Jeanne. So that I can find the real killer. Whoever did this, we can find them if you just talk to me.
Johnny is silent for a long while, and then he speaks.
Johnny: Fine. Ask me anything.
(Cues Guard's Elegy)
Phoenix: You and Jeanne...You were close?
Johnny: You could say that, yeah...Her and I, we...
He pauses.
Johnny: We grew up together. Always knew each other. Grew up on the streets together. Her and I.
Phoenix nods his head.
Johnny: She wasn't my sister or nothin'...No, I guess she kinda was. I thought of her as one. But she weren't related by blood or nothin'. I found her, or more like, she found me, after I got into a fight with a local bully. I was always pickin' fights...I didn't have no parents, neither of us did. I had to pick fights or else I...Or else I'd be nothing, ya know? And I couldn't feel like nothin', not after I lost my parents. So anyways, there was this one kid, this one son of a bitch. I was 10, he was 13. I saw him picking on some kid about my age. He was hittin' him and kickin' him, callin' him names. The kid was cryin'. I tell ya, I couldn't stand for that.
His hands ball up into tight fists. So tight, in fact, that his fingernails go white.
Johnny: So I says to him, "Eh, pick on someone your own size" or something to that effect. And in the next instant, before I know it, I clock him one. I hit him so hard he goes down instantly. Not a word, not a scream or yelp or anything. He hits the ground hard and doesn't move.
Phoenix: Was he...I mean, did you...
Johnny: Kill 'im? No, but I sure as hell thought I did...So I turn to run, but, little do I know, the guy had about five friends with him. Didn't even notice at first, but these guys are angry at me. They come at me with steel pipes and shit. Imagine that, teenagers strikin' at me with pipes. Anyways, so I manage to clock three of 'em before they finally get me. They beat me bad. They hit my head until I couldn't see no more due to the swelling. They just keep wailing me, hittin' me as hard as they can. They take turns kicking me in the head until I go out like a light. I woulda died, I swear to God I woulda if Jeanne hadn't...
His words catch in his throat.
Johnny: Jeanne saved me. She was only a year or two older than me, but she was a genius. I woke up in an alley, with stitches and bandages and ice packs. The whole deal, she had set up a mini-hospital in an alleyway, for God's sake. She found me, a stranger left for dead in the street, and she nursed me back to health. I can't imagine the work she went through, but I appreciated it. By God, did I appreciate it. We got to talking, and learned she was an orphan too. She wanted to go to medical school, and spent most of her time nursing sick animals back to health. I was the first human she ever operated on. And she saved my life. My God, she was...She was quite a piece of work.
He sighs heavily.
Johnny: So anyways, to make a long story short, she continued to operate on kids who were hurt. There were a ton of gang violence and the like. She helped me whenever I got banged up, and in return, I gave her protection. A bodyguard, like. I taught her some streetfighting, and she got damn good at it. Hell, sometimes I thought she didn't even need me for protection anymore. Hell, even when we came here, we continued to spar daily. Well anyways, we grew up, we eventually went to school. I'm 19 now, I've kickstarted a successful boxing career. I know that if she had time, she woulda finished up med school and become the greatest doctor this world ever seen. But now...But now, she...She's never...
He catches himself before he bursts into tears.
Johnny: I'm sorry. That's...That's all I know...I hope I've been helpful.
Phoenix: Yeah...Don't worry Johnny. You've helped a lot. I'll find whoever did this.
He turns away, but Johnny stops him.
Johnny: Hold on. One more thing. A few days ago, Jeanne tells me...
Phoenix: Yes?
He pauses for a long time. It seems as if he would never finish his sentence, but then
Johnny: She had just come back from the tennis court. The girls invited her. Anyways, she comes back and shows me this zebra doll one of the girls gave her. She looks so delighted, like she finally found a friend. She tells me, "The girls are nice to me. Marcia, Jamie, Sofia, and Alessandra..I think they're my friends. I want them to be my friends. I hope to spend more time with them." I think she saw the jealousy on my face because...Because she said to me...She says, "Don't worry, Johnny. I will always love you."
The manly facade drops at this moment. Tears start to stream down his face.
Phoenix: Johnny. Thank you. You've helped a great deal. Thank you.
Johnny: Hey. Catch whoever did this...Please...
Phoenix: It's what I was born to do.
(Stops music)
He reassures Johnny with a pat on the back, as Johnny recomposes himself. At this moment, Makoto walks through the door.
Phoenix: Ah, you're here.
Makoto: Yep...I just checked out the lot behind the hotel.
He explains his investigation behind the hotel in detail. Phoenix returns with a synopsis of his conversation with Johnny.
Makoto: By the way...The receipt you found in Alessandra's room...Can I see it?
Phoenix: Eh? Sure.
Makoto takes the receipt and reads it over.
Makoto: Books, snacks, a robe, a video camera, Steel Samurai manga, a hunting spear...All sold to Alessandra Fibonacci.
Phoenix: ...
Makoto: ...
The telescreens whir to life.
Monokuma: Well, everyone, it's about that time. Make your way down to the Courthouse! The Class Trial is about to start!
Class Trial
The Monokuma Courthouse stands in the center of Monokuma Park, which in turn stands in the center of the City. Phoenix and Makoto, as well as the rest of the students watch as the large wooden doors swing open. They enter.
Phoenix: ...So this is it, huh?
Makoto: Yeah...
The Lobby is large and spacious. There's no furniture, and one large elevator at the far end of the lobby, opposite the doors.
Monokuma: Glad you could all make it. Now, mosey on down to the Courtroom and we can begin the first Class Trial!
He's gone as soon as he arrives. The students look at each other in silence, for a moment. Suspicion and doubt play across their features.
Marcia: ...Well, then...We should go.
The students hesitantly make their way to the elevator. Alessandra, however, noticeably limps. Her left foot is wrapped in a bandage. Phoenix and Makoto notice this, but say nothing, and the students fill the elevator. They stand in silence for a minute, and then the steel box creaks to life. The sounds of grinding gears resound as the elevator makes its agonizingly slow decline.
Nicholas: ...Are we moving down?
Makoto: The Courtroom is underground. Way underground...
The students are silent again. Sofia approaches Phoenix.
Sofia: Your magatama...Did you bring it with you?
Phoenix: Eh? No. It doesn't work right now, anyway.
Sofia: A shame...It would have been helpful.
Phoenix: Uh...Yeah
She turns away to make small talk with Marcia.
Phoenix: ...
Johnny: Hey, Phoenix. Makoto.
Phoenix and Makoto: Yeah?
Johnny: I forgot to mention earlier. Jeanne kept a journal. Or, a diary. She wrote a bunch of personal stuff in it. Did you end up finding it?
Makoto: I searched her room pretty thoroughly...But I'm sorry, it wasn't there.
Johnny: Then...Then the killer must've took it. Damn..If I'd 'ave brought this up earlier, then we could've just checked everyone'n their rooms for the diary. We would've had 'em.
Phoenix: ...No. Whoever took it probably destroyed it or hid it very well. Don't worry, Johnny. None of this is your fault.
He's silent for several seconds.
Johnny: Thanks.
Another moment of silence passes.
Jamie: This elevator...Why is it taking so long? My heart...I can feel it racing.
Flora spoke, her voice small and dainty.
Flora: I...I know. It's...I wonder if he did it on purpose. The bear...
The elevator continues its decline, showing no signs of stopping. Several minutes pass. The students individually voice their complaints, and they grow anxious waiting for the elevator to reach its destination.
Johnny: This is worse than waiting for a match to begin...
Alessandra: I feel like I'm walking to my own deathbed here...
The elevator abruptly stops with a heavy clunking sound. The heavy steel doors slide open.
Monokuma: Welcome, welcome, one and all! Welcome to my Courtroom! The honorable Monokuma presiding!
He laughs playfully, but there's an unmistakable sinister tone to it.
Johnny: You son of a bitch...
Monokuma: Aw, what's-a-matter? You don't like it? Well too bad! Take your seats, everyone, take your seats!
The students followed his order, finding the seats with their names on them. They were less like "seats", and more like podiums, like a witness stand. They were arranged in a circle, so that everyone could see each other at all times. The students gazed out into a circle of uneasy faces.
Monokuma: Upupupu...Look at you guys...Are you ready?
The tension is nearly palpable. Makoto notices that, where Jeanne would've stood, there is instead a framed picture of her with a large red X over it.
Makoto: (Jeanne Home...The Ultimate Doctor. Is the killer...)
Phoenix: (...Really among us? Only one way to to find out...)
Makoto: (And so the curtain opens...On a deadly judgment..)
Phoenix: (A deadly deception...)
Makoto: (A deadly betrayal...)
Phoenix: (A deadly riddle...)
Makoto: (A deadly defense...)
Phoenix: (A deadly faith...)
Makoto and Phoenix: (A deadly class trial!)
Monokuma sits on a large, throne-like seat overlooking the students.
Monokuma: Now, I guess we should begin with some basic rules about the Class Trial! Firstly, your votes will determine the results. If you can figure out "whodunit", then only they will receive punishment. But if you pick the wrong one...Then I'll punish everyone besides the 'blackened', and the killer can go free!
Phoenix: To clarify, er...Your Honor...The killer has to be among us, right? One of us did the killing?
Monokuma: Obviously. I wouldn't pull that kinda trick on you, Feenie!
Phoenix: (F-Feenie?)
Flora: W-Well...I-I guess it's true, then...
Phillip: Damn...
Monokuma: But this isn't any normal Class Trial! This is Death Battle! And our two stars, our two brilliant detectives this round are Makoto Naegi and Phoenix Wright! I'm not gonna lie, these two are the most capable out of all of you here, and that's saying something. And whoever solves it first, gets to leave as well! And the other one, well...They'll be executed along with the killer.
Phoenix: (Right...The Death Battle...)
Makoto: (I can't believe it...Will he really go through with this?)
Monokuma: Well, that about does it. First up, the case summary! Debate time! Now...Begin!
Sofia: The victim...It was Jeanne Home, The Ultimate Doctor.
Marcia: Indeed. She was found stabbed in a chest, in the livingroom.
Marlin: Yep, yep...She was murdered right there in the livingroom-
Phoenix: OBJECTION! Makoto: NO, THAT'S WRONG!
Marlin looks visibly shocked at this.
Phoenix: The crime scene wasn't the living room. Rather...
Makoto: It was her bedroom. We found a lot of blood there.
Marlin: Wh-Whaaaaaat!?
Vincent: Her...Her bedroom? This is the first I'm hearing of this...
Makoto: Understandable, since you never left the body.
Vincent: Yeah, I was trying to leave the investigating stuff to you cerebral folk...
Phoenix: (A pilot isn't a "cerebral folk"?)
Turner: So the murder occurred in the bedroom, then. Fair enough.
Marcia: Next, the murder weapon...
Makoto: (Well, we already know what it is...But we may as well go through the motions...)
Vincent: She was stabbed, so...Some kind of sharp instrument?
Anna: Instrument? You mean like a tuba?
Johnny: Y-You're no serious, right?
Anna: What? What?
Marcia: Instrument is just another word for weapon...
Anna: Ah! This one's easy! It was a knife!
Phoenix: OBJECTION! Makoto: NO, THAT'S WRONG!
Makoto: Maybe you didn't know, but we found a spear.
Anna: Ehhh? A spear?
Phoenix: You know, like a hunting spear.
Anna: Oh. Really?
Marcia: Yeah...I took a look at the spear, too. It's covered in blood. It was found out back, in a dumpster. Barely fit in there, too.
Johnny: So...She was killed with a spear?
Makoto: Most likely.
Phoenix: The autopsy report, er, the Monokuma File doesn't actually tell us. It says a "sharp object", but it doesn't actually tell us what.
Jamie: Maybe Monokuma couldn't tell?
Monokuma: Hey, hey, hey! Don't act like I don't know what I'm doing! Autopsy reports are hard! Not even police forces can tell exactly what the weapon is.
Phoenix: You can at least tell us what material it was.
Monokuma: Yeah. I guess I could've.
Phoenix: Th-That's it?
Monokuma: Heh. Slipped my mind, I guess.
Johnny: Fucking...
Jamie: Well, we should move on now...I think we have enough information to determine who the killer is.
Flora: A-Already?
Turner: No way...Who is it?
Jamie: The killer...I hate to admit it, but it would have to be Alessandra Fibonacci.
Alessandra: Wh-What? Y-You suspect me?
Nicholas: Hold on, where's your proof?
Sofia: Is it not obvious? The time the murder took place.
Flora: The time...The time of death?
Marcia: The murder took place during dinner. The only two people who weren't at dinner...Were Jeanne and Alessandra.
Nicholas: How can you be so sure about the time of death?
Jamie: Did you see her wrist? She had a watch. The hands were frozen in place, likely broken in struggle or something. The hands were frozen at 6:32, the time of death, while all of us were at dinner!
Makoto: NO, THAT'S WRONG!
Makoto: You know, it's been bothering me. The time on her wristwatch.
Marcia: What do you mean?
Makoto: You're right, it does seem to be frozen in place at the time we were eating dinner. However, recall that her watch is one hour slow.
Marcia: Wh-What? What do you mean, "recall"?
Phoenix: This is the first I'm hearing of this...(Damn. I can't let him get the upper hand here...)
Makoto: Remember what happened at lunch. Jeanne arrived an hour late, almost exactly.
Vincent: Yep, I remember that.
Makoto: She didn't even know her watch was an hour late. That's why she didn't show up to lunch until 1:00.
Marcia: Hold on. How can you be so sure? So she showed up to lunch an hour late. So what? That's one time. A fluke. How does that prove that her watch was an hour slow? I'm going to need a little more proof than that.
Makoto: (More proof...Well, that should be easy.) I'VE GOT IT!
Marcia: Y-You do?
Makoto: You of all people should know, Marcia. You, Sofia, Jamie, and Alessandra all play tennis regularly every morning. But you invited Jeanne to come play with you, to try to make her feel included.
Alessandra: A-Ah! I get it now! And she showed up an hour late to tennis as well!
Makoto: It has to be her watch that accounts for these discrepancies. I'm willing to bet the clock in her room is off, too, and she used it as reference to set her watch.
Vincent: Er...Okay, so she was killed...At 7:32?
Makoto: No. She was dead by then. We found her body at 7:30.
Vincent: Then what the hell...
Makoto: Her watch must've stopped at a completely different time. Probably 12 hours earlier.
Nicholas: And yet...She still showed up to lunch late, and made no mention of her watch stopping.
Makoto: She was probably using the clock in her room at that point. There's no other explanation.
Phoenix: ...Monokuma, could you confirm this for us? Can you check if Jeanne's clock is off?
Monokuma: Ah...Yup! Sure is! Well done! I don't have the money to hire maintenence crews.
Makoto: Then it's settled. Her clock was off, so her watch was off. She showed up late to lunch, and for tennis. In other words, her watch has nothing to do with the murder!
Marcia: Ah...Hm. You've got a point...
Phoenix: Meaning that the murder took place between lunch and dinner. And nobody has an alibi for that entire time, right?
The room is silent.
Sofia: I'm not convinced.
Makoto: Eh?
Sofia: So the murder didn't take place during dinner. So what? Alessandra is still the killer.
Makoto: ...You're referring to the hunting spear? The murder weapon?
Sofia: Yes. It belonged to Alessandra.
Alessandra: Th-That's...Well...Yes, you're right, but...
Phoenix: Anyone could've used that spear!
Marcia: No.
Phoenix: Wh-What?
Marcia: I found something that you two must've missed. This.
She pulls out a small bag containing a heap of plastic scrap and electronic components.
Phoenix: ...
Makoto: ...
Marcia: It's a video camera. It's been destroyed, but I had Nicholas salvage what he could. He found two clips of video. The rest is corrupted, but it's all we need. The first one...Well, I don't know what to say about it. But let me show you.
She presents a small device with a screen on it, and plugs some wires from it into the destroyed piece of the video camera. It begins to play a video.
The video shows a figure outside in the large parking lot, dressed in a large robe and a face-concealing mask of some sort. It holds the hunting spear. The timestamp at the top left is 6:10 PM, today's date. The figure bows to the camera, and then, to everyone's surprise, the Steel Samurai Theme begins to play.
The figure begins to perform a series of choreographed, complex looking techniques with the spear, twirling it, tossing it, etc. The moves are dangerous, and it seems as if it any moment a fatal injury could occur. It's like watching a kung-fu movie.
Johnny: Wh-What is this?
Phillip: Unreal...
Vincent: I'm...I'm not sure what to make of this.
Phoenix: He's...He's copying the Steel Samurai! Those are Steel Samurai moves!
Marcia: Exactly. This next clip is less silly.
She presses a button and the next clip begins to play. The timestamps at the top left is 6:30, today's date. It shows the same figure in the mask and robe. He limps to a dumpster in the far back, carrying the hunting spear, now covered in blood. He drops it into the dumpster, and turns to face the camera. He hurriedly limps over to it, picks it up. He appears to smash it onto the ground before the screen goes black.
Marcia: And there you have it. The person in that suit would have to be the killer.
Phoenix: ...
Makoto: ...
Jamie: If this is to be believed...Then the murder did indeed happen during dinner time. The spear in the first clip is free of blood. But in the second clip, it's covered in it. Meaning that the murder happened between 6:12 and 6:30.
Marcia: So...Let's talk about who was behind that mask.
Jamie: There are only two people without alibis at the time the videos were taken. Jeanne, and Alessandra.
Marcia: And this couldn't be Jeanne, not with the blood and all...
Sofia: Plus, we know Alessandra didn't even touch her dinner, meaning she couldn't have been busy during that time. Could it be any clearer?
Vincent: Now hold on, this clip doesn't show the murder taking place...
Sofia: It might as well.
Flora: Wh-What do you mean?
Sofia: I of course mean the fact that there's blood on the weapon. The blood couldn't possibly belong to anyone else!
Phoenix: OBJECTION!
Phoenix: Actually...Yes, it could.
Phoenix: Alessandra, could you please show the court your wound?
Alessandra meekly walks out from her podium, and shows her bandaged foot to the students.
Phoenix: As you can see, she has a wound on her foot. Does anyone remember seeing it at lunch?
The students are silent.
Phoenix: Well, isn't it likely that she wounded herself with her own spear and that's how the blood got on it?
Marcia: Th-That's conjecture! That's completely ridiculous!
Phoenix: Is it? Watch the video you yourself presented, Marcia. In the first part, you can see her mimicking the Steel Samurai.
Marcia: So you do admit that Alessandra Fibonacci is behind that mask.
Phoenix: Of course. But that doesn't make her the killer. Watch.
He plays the the first clip over.
Phoenix: In this first clip, her foot looks completely fine. She moves with grace and ease. And yet in the second clip...
The second clip plays.
Phoenix: She's limping. She was injured somehow. I propose to the Court that she injured herself in her antics, and threw away the spear and smashed the camera in a state of extreme frustration.
Makoto: Y-You can't just make stuff up like that!
Phoenix:The fact of the matter is, we have a plausible reason for why there's blood on her spear. She was creating a Steel Samurai home video! No wonder she didn't say anything! It's a kid's show! She could've simply injured herself and was too embarrassed to talk about how!
Marcia: "Could've" doesn't fly here!
Phoenix: It sounds better than she "could've" killed Jeanne during that eighteen minute period!
Jamie: ...Okay. It seems to me like this isn't going to get us anywhere. Let's stop focusing on "who", and talk about "how".
Makoto: The murder took place in her room. So I guess the question is, how did she get there, and how did she get the opportunity to stab her to death?
Vincent: So...Alessandra...Or, the killer, knocked on Jeanne's door, and she just opened it up. Then...She stabbed her right there!
Alessandra: N-No...She never opened the door for anyone...That couldn't have happened.
Vincent: Why should we believe you?
Marcia: No, I can confirm. She was extremely private. She wouldn't open the door for anyone.
Vincent: Uh, okay...So...I guess she just kinda forced the door open?
Makoto: NO, THAT'S WRONG!
Makoto: Take out your e-Files, everyone. Study the rules very closely.
The students did as he asked.
Makoto: Rule 7, in particular.
Phoenix: Ah...The rule that says that you aren't allowed to forcefully open the door of a hotel room.
Makoto: Right. Monokuma, would it be against the rules to enter through another way?
Monokuma: Nope! Didn't write that one down. I like to keep things interesting. But I guess I could make it a rule, if you really want me to.
Phillip: Another way? Like what?
Makoto: I'VE GOT IT! The window was shattered. It's entirely possible that whoever killed Jeanne climbed in through the window.
Sofia: Alessandra, you mean...After all the time of death would have to be-
Makoto: In fact, I found a ladder.
Phoenix: (Ladder?)
Makoto: One large enough to reach all the way to her window. The killer could've easily smashed it open with something, maybe a brick...And entered through there.
Johnny: So the killer entered through the window, then?
Makoto: Most likely.
Marcia: ...Then let's revise our theory.
Johnny: The culprit entered through the window. She...Or, he used a ladder to reach Jeanne's room.
Vincent: Uh, she smashed the window, and came on through. That's where she saw Jeanne, sitting there, cute as a button.
Johnny: Watch it, Vincent!
Marcia: And then the killer stabbed Jeanne, right through her heart.
Phoenix: OBJECTION!
Phoenix: It couldn't have happened quite like that.
Marcia: And why not?
Phoenix: The autopsy report. Uh...Monokuma File. It says that she had no external injuries, other than the stab wound and a few bruises.
Phillip: ...And?
Phoenix: There's one thing here that's lacking. Defensive wounds.
Marlin: What in the hell are defensive wounds?
Phoenix: I'm a lawyer, so I have experience in this kind of thing...Usually when a victim is stabbed, you find wounds on her arms and hands, from when she tried to protect her body and face. The weapon was a spear, she would've easily seen it coming and had time to prepare. Not to mention that breaking a window isn't exactly a stealthy approach.
Vincent: But she was just a doctor...Maybe she just froze up. She probably had no idea how to defend herself.
Makoto: NO, THAT'S WRONG. She was heavily trained in street fighting by Johnny. She was immensely talented in it. No way she wouldn't have been able to protect herself against at least one stab.
Phoenix: Indeed. In fact, a spear is so unwieldy a weapon in such close quarters that an attack from the front would've been nearly impossible.
Vincent: Okay...So...
Sofia: So she had bruises on her face and arms. She could've been clocked with a brick or something just hard enough to knock her out, and then-
Makoto: No. Those bruises on her face and arms are probably from sparring with Johnny.
Phoenix: Plus, a brick would've left a different kind of wound.
Marcia: So what are you getting at?
Phoenix: And this is all assuming she didn't try to run. The attack happened at the bed and window, which is far from the door. We should expect her to have at least tried running, but she didn't. She must've been attacked from behind. She couldn't have seen it coming.
Marcia: So where exactly does this get us?
Phoenix: Where does it get us? Well, it puts a hole in your theory, doesn't it?
Marcia: What?
Makoto: What Phoenix means is...The murder didn't take place at dinner.
Marcia: H-How can you be so sure?
Phoenix: Jeanne Home was a very private individual. She locked herself up in her room and rarely left.
Makoto: Not to mention, her clock and watch were both an hour slow...
Phoenix: This means that during the first hour that we were all eating dinner, she was in her room, blissfully unaware.
Makoto: If someone, even Alessandra, had broken into her room at that time, she would've seen it coming.
Phoenix: And yet this is in complete contradiction to our forensic evidence.
Marcia: B-But the spear!
Makoto: The real killer could've easily wiped off the blood before Alessandra used it to make her video.
Marcia: It's...Possible....
Phoenix: More than that. Now that we know the crime couldn't have taken place during dinner, that's how it had to have happened.
Makoto: And now nobody has an alibi.
Phoenix: Alessandra Fibonacci is cleared of suspicion. For now.
Jamie: Unbelievable...So the killer broke into the room when Jeanne wasn't there, and then when she came back, he or she caught her off guard. She must've been hiding somewhere. But where?
Makoto: I GOT IT! In the closet, of course.
Alessandra: Could they have fit? The closet's pretty small, and she had clothes and stuff in there.
Makoto: It was all moved under her bed to make space. There would've been plenty of room.
Alessandra: But I don't think my spear would've fit...
Makoto: (It keeps coming back to her spear...)
Phoenix: (Her spear...That's one tricky part of the puzzle...)
Marcia: Either way, there's something else I want to address...How the body was moved.
Phillip: How the body was moved?
Marcia: The murder took place in the bedroom. But we found the body in the livingroom.
Phillip: Now that you mention it...That is odd.
Marlin: Couldn't they've just dragged the body down the stairs and into the livingroom?
Flora: Th-That'd be an awfully long trip...They'd need to pass through several rooms, and then through the kitchen into the livingroom...Could they have done that without being seen?
Misuki-chan: Aha! They just chucked the body out the window! Then they climbed down the ladder, and brought the body in through the back entrance, right into the livingroom!
Phoenix: OBJECTION! Makoto: NO, THAT'S WRONG!
Makoto: Please recall what Phoenix just said! There were no external wounds!
Phoenix: The fall was three stories. If she had dropped her from that height, we should expect to see wounds all over her body.
Misuki-chan: M-Maybe she used bubble wrap?
Phoenix: You're not serious...
Vincent: Uh, well...Couldn't she have used the ladder?
Makoto: NO, THAT'S WRONG! The ladder was very rickety and unstable. Have you ever tried carrying something as heavy as a human being DOWN a ladder?
Vincent: Eh, no...Have you?
Makoto: My point is that it would've been very difficult, if not impossible, to carry the body down that rickety old ladder.
Hotel Map
Marcia: Okay...So...Let me draw a map here...
Vincent: Looking at it now, it's sort of a bad design...
Phillip: Extremely bad.
Nicholas: Unrealistically bad.
Johnny: Not as bad as the drawing itself...
Phillip: Couldn't agree more.
Nicholas: Obviously correct.
Marcia: A-Anyway...If she carried the body from the bedroom and down the stairs, she would have to pass through...The Library, the Office, the Computer Room, and the Kitchen...It's quite a long trip.
Jamie: Seems unrealistic...
Sofia: Th-Then how...
Phoenix: (Indeed...How...Unless...) TAKE THAT! Have you guys forgotten? The dumbwaiter.
(Cues Objection! Cadenza Remix)
Makoto: The...Ah!
Phoenix: If she stored the body in the dumbwaiter, she could easily move the body to the bottom floor without anyone seeing...She then climbed down the ladder, which explains the bloodstain...And then entered through the back entrance and headed to the kitchen. In doing so she would check to see if anyone were there to see her moving the body.
Marcia: B-But she would've been covered in blood! What if someone had seen her?
Phoenix: It would only be a matter of changing her clothes, or perhaps wearing something as she committed the murder.
Marcia: But that's...How do you know?
Phoenix: It's the only way I can see this happening. I know for a fact that some of the people here would've been in The Library and The Computer room. By contrast, the livingroom is barely used, what with all its antique furniture...
Marcia: Oof...
Makoto: So the murderer sent the victim down the dumbwaiter, then carried the body from the kitchen into the livingroom? She would only need to go through one room, then...That sounds entirely plausible to me...
Turner: Come to think of it...I did hear a loud dinging sound earlier today. I was in the Library...I don't remember the time exactly, but it had to have been the dumbwaiter. That must've been it.
Phoenix: Then my theory seems confirmed. (Whew! Can't believe I pulled that off!)
(Stops music)
Marcia: The one question remains. Why?
Phoenix: Wh-What?
Marcia: It just doesn't make sense. Why go through the trouble with the dumbwaiter in the first place?
Phoenix: I'm not sure I...
Marcia: I'm saying that if the killer wanted to move the body to the livingroom, why didn't she just throw it out the window? We've established that she certainly didn't do that, but why not? That would be a lot easier and less risky.
Phoenix: I...I didn't really think this far ahead, to be honest.
Marcia: And that's not it. Why move the body in the first place? Why hide it at all?
Phoenix: I was thinking something similar...There's no benefit to hiding a body in this game...
Makoto: (A reason to hide the body...Well, there is one thing...) I'VE GOT IT! Isn't there one reason? If you hide the body, it will take longer to find it. Meaning the time frame during which the victim was murdered would increase, thus broadening the amount of suspects.
Marcia: But there are plenty of places to hide the body. You could just leave it in the room and it would take a day or two before someone asked Monokuma to open the door, or they noticed her window was broken and went to see what was amiss.
Jamie: And there's more. The sheet wrapped around her body. Why do that? Why try and stop the bleeding?
Makoto: (Didn't I solve a case where someone did something like that?)
Sofia: It doesn't seem like normal behavior for a killer...
Phoenix: (You're right...It doesn't...)
Marcia: She was moved from her room and hidden. But why?
Jamie: And that sheet around her body. It's very peculiar.
Sofia: So many questions and so little answers.
Anna: Maybe she didn't want any bloodstains as she was moving the body?
Vincent: But then why move the body? Just leave it in her room if she doesn't want people to find her right away.
Flora: Well...Maybe she was trying to stop the bleeding for another reason?
Phoenix: THAT'S IT!
Phoenix: This entire case has seemed odd from the very start. The dead body was found quite a bit away from the crime scene. The body was wrapped in a sheet that seemed to stop the bleeding. You'd think the killer would've left the body there...Or if she needed to move it for some unforseen reason, she would've thrown it out the window. But she didn't throw the body out the window. We know that because her bones would be fractured and her head sunken in. So hear me out...Maybe that's exactly why she didn't do it. She was trying...To save her life.
Phoenix: Her body was wrapped in a sheet to prevent a death from blood loss. But she needed medical treatment. Refer back to the map Marcia provided us. Right above the livingroom is the infirmary. She needed to bring Jeanne to the infirmary, but she couldn't just throw her body out the window. She could die from the impact. So she used the dumbwaiter, but...The wounds were too vital. She died before she could get medical treatment. In a state of panic, she tossed Jeanne's body into the chest.

Misuki-chan: ...
Marcia: ...I expect this from you, Phoenix, but this is absurd...
Phoenix: This is more than just baseless conjecture, Marcia! All the actions of the killer are completely consistent with someone trying to save Jeanne's life!
Marcia: If you could find some evidence of her intending to visit the infirmary, that'd be a different story! You can't just say this kind of stuff without evidence!
Phoenix: But there are no other good explanations!
Marcia: GOOD!? Tell me this. Why would somebody try to give medical treatment to a person they had just stabbed through the heart with a spear?
Phoenix: Maybe they regretted it?
Marcia: "Maybe" this, "Maybe" that...That's all that seems to come out of your mouth, isn't it?
Phoenix: H-Hey!
Marcia: Focus on the facts!
Phoenix: (The facts are contradictory!)
Marcia: This is pointless...We've gone around in circles and haven't wound up at a conclusion yet. This whole case seems to get more and more confusing...
Jamie: Then let's talk about something else. The murderer.
Phoenix: That again?
Johnny: Whaddya mean, "that again?"? That's the whole point of this conversation!
Phoenix: But we didn't get anywhere with that.
Jamie: No. There were still a few questions that were left unanswered. And I have someone in mind as the culprit.
Jamie: We should get back to the killer...Namely...Alessandra Fibonacci.
Alessandra: Wh-What! But I was cleared of suspicion...
Sofia: All we did was prove that nobody had an alibi. But let's not lose sight of one very important fact. The murder weapon belonged to you.
Alessandra: Ah...
Sofia: Tell me. When could someone have taken your spear? Where did you keep it? Out in the open? Not likely.
Alessandra: Y-You've got a point...I just assumed that someone took it when I wasn't looking, but maybe that isn't possible...
Jamie: Hmph. Then we're on the same page. The murder weapon is the hunting spear, no doubt about it, and the only person who could've used it is you!
Makoto: NO, THAT'S WRONG!
Makoto: You know, something's been bothering me. Why do we keep calling the spear the "murder weapon"?
Jamie: Huh?
Makoto: We've already established that the blood we found belongs to Alessandra Fibonacci. What other reason do we have to assume it was used to kill Jeanne?
Jamie: The Monokuma File says-
Makoto: Nothing. It doesn't tell us what the weapon was. It doesn't tell us what material it is. And I'm thinking that it was done on purpose.
Monokuma: Upupupu...
Jamie: Th-Then what could it be? What was the real murder weapon?
Makoto: (Indeed, what could it be?)
Phoenix: TAKE THAT!
Makoto: Huh?
Phoenix: Makoto, do you remember the window?
Makoto: Yeah...Oh!
Phoenix: Then you know what I'm getting at, right?
Makoto: Yeah. The murder weapon was a piece of the shattered window!
Jamie: WH-WHAAAAAAAAAAT!?
Makoto: The glass broke up into very large, sturdy shards. Any one of them could have made a deadly shiv.
Phoenix: This would also solve the problem of the spear not fitting in the closet, as Alessandra said.
Makoto: As well as any other inconsistency arising from the spear. And it would've been easy, trivially easy, to hide a glass weapon anywhere without it being seen.
(Stops music)
Marcia: Then...It could've been anybody. Again. We're back at square one.
Jamie: No...No, it has to be Alessandra...No, damn it, damn it...
Johnny: How can you be so sure?
Jamie: I just am, okay!?
Johnny: You sound awfully suspicious! You sure you didn't do it!?
Jamie: Don't be ridiculous. It's spy code not to hurt allies. She considered me a friend. I would never put her in danger. It's my creed.
Phoenix: (...What?)
Makoto: (Hold on a minute...)
Phoenix and Makoto: HOLD IT!
(Cues Telling The Truth 2004)
Makoto: Jamie...What did...What did you just say?
Jamie: ...
Phoenix: You just said that Jeanne considered you a friend.
Alessandra: I didn't know about this...
Phoenix: As you shouldn't. She only told one person. Johnny.
Johnny: And I sure as hell didn't tell anyone. She may have wrote it down in her journal, but...Oh. Oh fuck...
Jamie: ...
Phoenix: Jamie.
Makoto: How do you know?
Phoenix and Makoto: How do you know something you couldn't possibly know?
Jamie: What...What are you saying...
Phoenix: Don't play dumb with us, dammit!
Makoto: You could've only known if you read her journal! In other words...You...You killed her!
The students explode into chatter.
Monokuma: Hey, hey! Calm down a little. Er, Order!
Jamie: Damn you...Damn you! I didn't kill anyone! It's against my creed! I just said that!
Makoto: Then how did you know!
Jamie: ...You're all bugged.
Phoenix: Wh-What?
Jamie: Wiretapped, bugged. I've bugged all of you. All your rooms are bugged.
Johnny: B-Bullshit!
Jamie: I'm a spy. I had to do it. I didn't want any of you to figure out, but you've forced my hand.
Phoenix: Wait a minute...You said our rooms are bugged, but then how did you know about Jeanne? She wasn't in her room when she said it.
Makoto: ...No way...Those stuffed animals...
Phoenix: Huh?
Makoto: There was one in Jeanne's room...And Alessandra's too, right?
Phoenix: ...Yeah...
Makoto: Jamie gave it to them.
Phoenix: Th-That's right!
Johnny: And when Jeanne told me about being friends with you guys, she was holding one of them animals...
Jamie: I hid listening devices in the stuffed animals. They wirelessly send the information into a computer in my room. I have too many recordings to count.
Phoenix: A-And what about me? You never gave me a stuffed animal.
Jamie: I didn't think the guys would accept a stuffed animal gift, so I took a bit of a risk. Remember when I visited your room a week ago to ask you for some legal advice?
Phoenix: Ah...You did that with everyone, then?
Jamie: Yeah. There are bugs in everyone's room.
Makoto: I feel...Violated....
Vincent: Yeah, not cool.
Flora: That's r-really weird...
Several minutes go on like this before Monokuma reminds everyone to stay on track.
Jamie: ...Which leads me to the final nail in Alessandra's coffin. This recording.
Phoenix: !
Makoto: What?
She pulls a small playback device from her pocket. She presses a few buttons, and it emits a static sound for several minutes. Then the sound of a door opening. A voice can be heard, sounding distinctly like Jeanne.
Voice 1: My window...It's broken!
Shuffling footsteps, and then the sound of another door opening.
Voice 1: I can't believe this...Is that a ladder? Who would do this to me...Was it an accid-
She couldn't finish the word. The sound of flesh tearing rips through the room. Heavy panting is heard. Another voice, sounding like Alessandra, is heard as well.
Voice 2: ...Oh. Oh, no, why did I...What have I done. Jeanne, are you alive? Why...Oh, I've made a mistake...No...
Voice 1: I-I...I...
Voice 2: Shh, don't talk. I...Oh God, Oh God, I'm so sorry...Let me help you. I'll get you to the infirmary. You're going to be okay.
Voice 1: Wh-Why did you...I thought we...
Voice 2: Save your breath and stay alive!
The recording ends.
Everyone is silent for a while.
Jamie: And that's why I was so adamant.
Alessandra: Wh-What is this...
Johnny: Alessandra...No...
Alessandra: I-It wasn't...Th-That's not...
Makoto: (No way...)
Alessandra: I didn't...B-But I...I didn't...It wasn't...
She chokes on her words as tears begin to flow.
Phoenix: (Could it be...But I can see it in her eyes...She's innocent...She has to be...)
Makoto: (I don't know what to make of this...)
Marcia: In any case, it looks like Phoenix was right. About the killer trying to save Jeanne...
Phoenix: O-Oh...Yeah...
Marcia: Well then...It looks like this case is coming to an end...
Sofia: Ha! I knew it from the start! Alessandra did it!
Vincent: N-No need to sound so happy!
Alessandra: But...It wasn't me...
Makoto: (Something's wrong here...What is it!?)
Jamie: We have a recording of you killing her!
Alessandra: I don't know what that is! That's not me!
Phoenix: (She's innocent...Right? This doesn't seem like an act...)
Sofia: Bullshit! We know it's you! Just confess!
Marcia: This does seem to be conclusive. After all, that voice can't possibly belong to anyone else.
Phoenix: OBJECTION!
Phoenix: (I've come this far. Everyone thinks it's her. It's up to me...To be on her side...When nobody else will...)
Marcia: Well? Are you going to say something? Was there something wrong with what I said?
Alessandra: Help me, Phoenix...
Phoenix: ...
Jamie: D-Don't tell me you don't have anything to say.
Phoenix: ...
Sofia: Spit it out!
Phoenix: ...That recording. It could've been someone else. Someone masking their voice. Doing an impression.
Johnny: N-Nobody could do it THAT well!
Phoenix: You're right. Nobody...Except for the Ultimate Voice Actress.
Sofia: !
Phoenix: Throughout this whole trial, you've been unusually adamant about Alessandra being the killer. Why is that?
Sofia: Jamie's been adamant, too! You think I killed her because I accused her?
Phoenix: Jamie had a recording. She didn't want to reveal it at first because she wanted her spying to remain secret. But she had a reason.
Sofia: ...
Phoenix: You on the other hand...You seem desperate to see her hanged.
Sofia: ...Damn you...Damn you! DAMN YOU! DAMN YOU!
Phoenix: Here's what I think happened, Sofia. You killed Jeanne Home. You then pretended to be Alessandra confessing to the act. Whether you actually regretted killing Jeanne or whether that was part of your act too, I don't know.
Sofia: DAMN YOU DAMN YOU DAMN YOU DAMN YOU DAMN YOU
Marcia: This is all conjecture, as usual!
Phoenix: Conjecture? Just look at Sofia's face!
Sofia: DAMN YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
Her face is red with anger. She slams her podium with her fists.
Sofia: DAMN YOU, PHOENIX! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE!?
Makoto: D-Don't tell me...
Phoenix: Well, are you going to respond to my accusation or what!?
Sofia: Ha.
Phoenix: ?
Sofia: Ha. Hahaha. Hahahahahaha.
Phoenix: Come on...
Sofia: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! So you think I disguised my voice? Very funny. You're missing one crucial fact.
Phoenix: What?
Sofia: I didn't know about the bugs. Nobody did. You said it yourself.
Phoenix: ...Gah!
Johnny: ...She's right...Jamie had kept it a secret.
Phoenix: (No...)
Sofia: So how could I have figured it out? Ask Jamie, she never told me.
Jamie: She's right...
Phoenix: Urg...
Sofia: Just show me how I could've known! Did I break into Jamie's room as well? Is that how I know? Did I read her mind? Do I have ears like a bat?
Phoenix: (...)
Sofia: Do it! Show me how I knew! Say "Objection!" and show it to me!
Phoenix: OBJECTION!
Phoenix: Got you.
Sofia: What!?
Phoenix: I got you. You messed up.
Sofia: What do you...
Phoenix: I don't know how you knew. But you did know. And I can prove it.
Makoto: Y-You can?
Phoenix: Before the trial, you mentioned my Magatama. Perhaps you were scared that I would see through your lies. But here's the thing. I only ever mentioned it to Makoto. In my room. My bugged room.
Sofia: What...
Phoenix: You got caught up in your desperation and anxiety! You revealed that you knew something that only Makoto and I did!
Sofia: No...I just...I've heard of it before...From somewhere else...
Phoenix: This is the only one to exist! I'm friends with several spiritualists and I haven't seen more than one! It's one of a kind!
Sofia: N-No way...
Phoenix: It was only a hunch before, but now I'm sure of it. It's you, Sofia! You killed Jeanne Home!
Sofia: Grr....Damn....
Vincent: For real?
Johnny: Unreal...
Flora: W-Wow...
Sofia: Shut up...Shut up, all of you!
Marcia: ...I can't believe you, Sofia.
Jamie: How dare you...
Alessandra: And to pin it all on me, no less...
Sofia: No, shut up! SHUT UP! This is all baseless...This is just conjecture!
Turner: How could you?
Nicholas: How utterly evil...
Makoto: You...You monster...
Sofia: Shut the hell up! Shut the hell up right now! I'll beat the shit out of all of you!
Misuki-chan: Wow wow, what a wicked witch you turned out to be.
Anna: Red isn't a good look for you, Sofia.
Phillip: This is the scoop of the century...
Marlin: How could you do this, Sofia?
Sofia: All of you...All of you just let me think...Shut up...
Phoenix: Face your guilt head on! Confess the truth!
Sofia: ....AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
She slams and kicks the podium, and begins to shout in varying tones and voices. And then, in Alessandra's voice...
Sofia: I'm SORRRRRRYYYY!!!!!
She collapses, out of breath.
The votes tally up, and the votes are unanimously for Sofia Voz. A slot machine rises from nowhere to illustrate this. Monokuma pulls the lever, and the three slots all land on a picture of Sofia Voz.
Phoenix: ...Why did you do it?
Sofia: ...It was...It was spur of the moment. I broke in to read her journal, but...Then I heard her coming...So I hopped into the closet and stabbed her when she came in.
Phoenix: ...No. With the amount of time it would've taken for you to move the clothes and boxes from the closet and under the bed, she would've been inside by then.
Sofia: Ah!
Phoenix: It was premeditated. You planned to kill her the whole time, didn't you?
Marcia: Then why didn't she bring her own murder weapon?
Sofia: ...You're both kind of right. I broke into her room to read her journal, that's true...But then I realized that this would be a perfect opportunity to kill her...I got caught up in the moment. Then...Then I realized what I had done. And I tried to save her...I did what I could to preserve my innocence, and then I tried to get her the help she needed, but...
Phoenix: ...Ironic that the only person qualified to save her was herself...
Sofia: It's over...Kill me...Just kill me...I deserve it.
Monokuma: Weellll, I guess it's time for the execution, huh? But before we get to Sofia, it's Naegi's turn to die!
Makoto: Wh-What?
Monokuma: Don't tell me you forgot! Come on! Death Battle!
Phoenix: Don't do it, Monokuma!
Monokuma: Upupupu! Sorry. I don't make the rules.
Phoenix: Yes you do!
Monokuma: Oh, right. Oh well! Them's the breaks! Let's go Makoto!
A large, open room. Makoto sits in the middle, tied up.
From seemingly nowhere, dice begin to rain from the sky. Thousands upon thousands of dice fall from the sky.
And then coins, and then playing cards.
All things that exemplify luck.
Monokuma stands in front of him, holding a quarter.
He smiles devilishly, and flips the coin into the air. "Heads!", Makoto shouts.
It lands, and he can barely see it reads Tails before a gigantic, two ton die lands on him, killing him instantly.
