Despite being a newborn, Meruem is the most powerful Chimera Ant, and the most powerful character to be introduced in the series so far, as well as one of the most intelligent. Born as the ultimate biological weapon, his physical power is only matched by an unparalleled intellect. His overwhelming talent allows him to analyze and learn anything almost instantly, and hone his strategies to perfection. Meruem is also endowed with unwavering and well-placed confidence in himself, which prevents him from hesitating; however, the relationship with Komugi and the fight with Isaac Netero led him to question himself. His power increased even more after absorbing Shaiapouf and Menthuthuyoupi.

Immense Strength: Meruem's physical strength is extremely high, as he was able to use only one powerful strike with his tail to kill several other Chimera Ants. He was able to shatter a massive wall inside the Queen's nest with only one punch. He also was able to rip off Netero's left arm and right leg easily. He can also rip off his own arm easily. He even injured all three of the Royal Guards with his tail strikes, however, they weren't serious injuries (However it should be noted that he didn't use anywhere near his full strength). After absorbing Menthuthuyoupi and Shaiapouf, he could knock out Knuckle and Meleoron with a tap on the shoulder. However, there is a possibility of this being used with Nen.

Unfathomable Speed and Reflexes: Meruem can rip off limbs and obliterate entire bodies before a regular human can even react. He can move at extremely fast speed when fighting Netero, despite Netero landing multiple strikes upon him. Meruem can easily rip of Netero's left arm and right leg in a flash, dodging the attacks of the 100-Guanyin Bodhisattva at the same time, meaning he could travel at speeds approaching Mach 1 (the same speed at which the Bodhisattva is summoned). After absorbing Menthuthuyoupi and Shaiapouf, he gained the ability to fly, allowing him to move at super-sonic speed in mere seconds. He also states that the only time Netero's speed exceeded his own was during the latter's hand movements when summoning the Bodhisattva.

Unfathomable Agility: Meruem is able to move from angle to angle deftly, as seen from his fight with Isaac Netero, in which he repeatedly avoided being blown away by strikes faster than sound.

Unfathomable Durability: Meruem is extremely durable. Netero's incredibly powerful super-sonic attacks only inflicted minor injuries on him. He was able to take thousands of such blows without suffering even a single scratch, although it was said that he began to feel dull pain around certain points in his body, hinting that he may have sustained some internal damage before even Zero Hand was used. He was also able to take on Netero's most powerful move, the Zero Hand, which launches Netero's entire aura upon his opponent (aura so strong that simply being in the presence of it can feel like needles on the skin) and he only received cuts and bruises. He was able to survive the ultra-powerful explosion of the Poor Man's Rose that was released after Netero's death and despite his body being nearly destroyed in the process, he was still alive after the fatal attack.

Immense Pain Tolerance: Meruem ripped off his own arm without hesitation, barely flinching afterwards.

Immense Poison Resistance: While he inevitably succumbed to the poisonous Poor Man's Rose, he was the last Chimera Ant to do so despite being at the epicenter of the explosion. While it should be taken into account that Shaiapouf and Menthuthuyoupi (Menthuthuyoupi especially) had given a significant amount of their power to the King in order to save his life (and so had less energy themselves), it is still an amazing feat surviving for such a prolonged period of time.

Genius-Level Intellect: Meruem has extraordinary intelligence being able to learn and master nearly anything he comes across of, he also uses his intelligence for Gungi in his battle against Netero and eventually succeeds by doing so. Also, seeing as how he epitomizes the meaning of melting pot, his intelligence is far beyond the likes of even the most intellectual humans.

Master Strategist: He can create quick and effective means to defeat Netero during his intense battle and found a way to elude through Netero's powerful defenses and was able to severely injure Netero in the process. The time that he spent when playing Gungi with Komugi have greatly bolstered his skills in perception and has gave him supernatural foresight as he can disrupt the flow of his opponents efficiently. This enhanced perception is what allowed him to win in his fight with Netero, as he was able to pick up on what was called a pattern so small it couldn't even be called a bias, which caused him to take Netero's left arm and right leg.

Proficient Hand to Hand Combatant:Meruem relies entirely on bare-handed combat to kill his opponent. His fighting style seems to be based on a combination of his superhuman physical attributes and unmatched intelligence. He mainly resorts to chops and attacks with his tail, which are so powerful they can easily destroy anything they come in contact with and so quick they are invisible to almost anyone. He usually aims for critical spots right away, ending the fight in an instant. He has also shown to be capable of knocking out significantly less powerful people, such as Knuckle and Meleoron, by applying pressure on their neck, controlling his movements perfectly in spite of moving at arguably supersonic speed.

NEN

Meruem was born with an exceptional amount of aura, which soon surpassed even that of the Royal Guards. By feeding on Nen users, he increased the size of his aura even further. After he consumed part of the bodies of two of his guards, Knuckle, upon witnessing his Ren, assumed that his power could rival the firepower of an entire nation. He could use Gyo shortly after his birth without receiving instructions. The first time he used En, it covered an area much wider than the palace perimeters and spread at such a speed that it was perceived as a real flash, though the flash may have also been attributed to Meruem transmuting his aura into photons; with the second use, his mastery reached the point that he could even discern fresh footprints. That being said, the exact level of mastery Meruem had in Nen remains mostly unclear, so are whether or not Meruem had actually used Nen in his battle with Netero, but judging by his achievements it can be safely assumed that he was extremely well versed in that regard due to his immense talent. In fact, his talent was so great that he had been shown learning and using exceedingly powerful Nen abilities on the first try without effort.

Meruem's Nen abilities

Aura synthesis

Meruem's initial ability gives him strength through consumption. His aura grows every time he devours a user of Nen, with their aura synthesizing to his own. When he consumed Menthuthuyoupi and Shaiapouf, he also obtained some of their Hatsu abilities. The amount of which he needs to consume one's body in order to achieve this is unknown, but it would seem that Meruem needs to absorb the large majority of their body to be able to use their Hatsu. It is unclear if this is a Hatsu or a biological ability.

Metamorphosis

After absorbing large parts of Shaiapouf and Menthuthuyoupi, he is able to use Menthuthuyoupi's ability to transform--including gaining wings to fly. This allows him to fly at speed so great he could cover the distance that Menthuthuyoupi and Shaiapouf considered would take 15 minutes in a mere 5 minutes

Rage blast

After absorbing large parts of Shaiapouf and Menthuthuyoupi, he is able to use Menthuthuyoupi's ability to use "Rage" in a concentrated blast of aura. Its power is enough to destroy most of a barren rock with size comparable to that of a mountain

Photon

By combining the abilities inherited from Shaiapouf and his own En, Meruem created his own version of Spiritual Message. It consists in turning his aura into microscopic particles akin to photons and either deploy them with his En in a flash, or detach the photons from his body and spread them into the surrounding air. Each photon maintains his aura even if it is separated from Meruem's body, it also allows him to measure the shape, quality, emotion, and other informational content about the things the photons interact with; hence this ability most likely also entails Emission and Manipulation too. As stated by Welfin and Shaiapouf, he can detect everything, even lies. The precision of the information he can gather depends on the quantity of photons directed at the object of interest. It is also briefly shown that immediately after deploying the photons in a flash, Meruem can seemingly teleport to the close vicinity of any target of interest within the region affected. However it is unclear whether it is really a part of this ability, or that Meruem simply catches up by covering extraordinary distances instantly with his immense physical strength.

Meruem stood over the ruined city, looking at the death and destruction he had caused.

Meruem smirked and he thought to himself.

Meruem: Heh! Weak.

All of a sudden, Meruem heard something moving towards him.

As he turns, all of a sudden, Meruem felt something hard strike him in the face, sending him flying back.

Meruem launches himself up and he glares at the culprit.

Meruem looks and he saw a young boy wearing a green long sleeve shirt glaring at him.

Meruem questions the boy.

Meruem: Who are you?

The boy answers.

???: I am Gon and for hurting all those people, I will destroy you!

Meruem chuckles sadistically and he questions Gon.

Meruem: Oh really? And how are you gonna do that?

Gon smirked and he began transforming.

Meruem widens his eyes in shock as Gon began growing taller, his muscles growing bigger.

Gon is now in his adult form.

Meruem stares at him and he remarks.

Meruem: Interesting. Now let's see what you can do.

Meruem launches himself forward and he throws a punch.

But Gon ducks underneath him and he delivers an uppercut, knocking Meruem upwards.

Gon jumps up and he strikes Meruem down before attacking him with a combination of punches and kicks.

Meruem jumps back and he delivers a kick, knocking Gon back.

Meruem then launches himself forward and the two began exchanging blows with each other.

Meruem swung his tail, smacking Gon back with it.

But Gon retaliates by smashing his head onto Meruem's.

As Meruem backs off dazed, Gon attacks Meruem with a flurry of punches before delivering one powerful punch, sending Meruem flying back.

As Meruem lands back, he smirked and he compliments Gon.

Meruem: Not bad. You're much stronger than I thought.

Gon growls and he said.

Gon: I'm really just beginning!

Meruem charges forward and he stabs his tail repeatly at Gon, but Gon dodges the Chimera Ant King's attacks with ease.

Gon then throws a kick, striking Meruem in the stomach.

Meruem grunts in pain but he retaliates by delivering a punch right into Gon's face.

As Gon recoils back, Meruem began charging up his rage blast.

Gon watches in horror as Meruem launches the rage blast at him, causing a large amount of the city to go off in an enourmous explosion.

Meruem began laughing maniacally and he questions Gon.

Meruem: Ha ha ha! Is that really the best you can do?

But to his horror, Gon suddenly sped past him at superhuman speed and before ge could react, he felt a sharp punch in his gut, causing him to cough out blood.

Gon began to channel his Nen into his fist and he delivers another punch into Meruem's face.

However, performing this technique leaves the rest of Gon's body vulnerable, enabling Meruem to retaliate by swinging his tail.

Gon screams as he was knocked back by the attack.

Gon jumps back up and he got into a fighting stance just as Meruem began charging towards him.

Both Gon and Meruem began trading blows, causing the glass on Ginger Town's buildings to shatter from the impact.

Gon punches Meruem back but Meruem swung back and he punches Gon.

Gon delivers a kick but Meruem fires another rage blast at Gon, sending him flying into a building.

Gon jumps back up and he launches himsekf forward.

Both Gon and Meruem moves through the city, trading punches at supernatural speed.

Gon screams and he channels his Nen into his knee as he drove it right into Meruem's guts.

Gon then channels his Nen into his fist and he delivers one hard punch, sending Meruem flying up into the air.

Gon then began charging up his Hatsu, ready to finish Meruem off once and for all.

Gon: Rock.....Paper.....SCISSORS!!!!

Gon shouts as he fires his Hatsu at Meruem.

Meruem widens his eyes in shock and he screamed as the blast struck him hard, causing the sky to explode.

As the explosion dies down, Gon drops onto his knees and he pants in exhaustion.

The transformation is affecting his body greatly and within minutes, he would lose his ability to use his Nen.

Gon watches as a limp and unconscious Meruem tumbles down from the sky and he crashes onto the ground.

Gon stares at Meruem and he thought to himself.

Gon: Heh! As long as the Chimera Ant King is dead. It's all worth it.

How wrong he was.

All of a sudden, an emission blast suddenly flies out of the smoke and it struck Gon hard in the arm.

Gon screams in pain and hs fell back, his eyes widens in shock and disbelief.

Gon: What?! That's impossible!

Gon watches in shock as Meruem steps out of the smoke, injured but still mobile.

Meruem continues to fire emission blasts at Gon and he chuckles.

Meruem: Heh! Do you really think that attack would work? But I must admit, you have damaged me quite a bit but however....

Without warning, Meruem sped next to Gon and he struck his tail stinger into his chest.

Gon screams in pain as he felt his Nen draining from his body.

Meruem laughs as he began absorbing the Nen out of Gon.

As every last bit of Nen is drained, Gon is not able to hold his transformation any further, forcing him to revert back into his base form.

With his opponent weakened, Meruem smirked and began to mercilessly beat up Gon, laughing maniacally, seemingly enjoying tormenting his opponent.

With one swing of his tail, Meruem sliced Gon's left arm clean from his socket.

Blood began spilling as Gon cries out in pain.

Meruem then delivers a kick, sending Gon flying back.

Meruem then charges up one powerful rage blast and he launches it at Gon.

Gon screams as the blast struck him hard.

Gon's eyes widens and he screams out in pain as the blast began obliterating his body.

The city exploded and Meruem watches the intense fireworks he had created.

Within minutes, the smoke clears and a large crater could be seen formed outside Ginger Town.

Meruem stares at the huge crater from the attack and he declared.

Meruem: You are not even worthy to challenge me.

Meruem then leaps away, finished with his battle.

As Meruem left the city, Imperfect Cell suddenly flies down, saying to himself.

Cell: Ah perfect! Just what I need to....

Cell stopped upon noticing the burning city around him.

Confused, Cell questions himself.

Cell: Okay, what in the world is going on?
