The Fish In The Barrels

Hey guys I'm sorry about the previous one shot... It went a little too fast... Anyway thanks for over 100 reads :3

"What are you trying to do? Drown us?" Asked Thorin angrily. I looked over at the dwarves. "I was born and bred on these waters. If I wanted to drown you, I would not do it here," said Bard. That was true. I wouldn't drown them here... Or would I?

We carried on moving through the dense fog. It makes the lake almost impossible to see and navigate through. But, with Bard you can't get lost. Meanwhile the dwarves were trying to get another one of them to cough up what he has. "I have been bled dry through this adventure. Nothing, absolutely nothing has shown positive on this..." But he was cut off. All the dwarves were standing and looking at the abandoned mountain. Funny. I thought they claimed themselves merchants.

Bilbo caught my eye and cleared his throat. Bard came  closer. "Give me the money." "Not until we get the provisions we paid for," said Thorin. "Give it to me. There are guards." That seemed to snap them out of it. They gave Bard the money and hopped into the barrels. We stopped. Bard stepped out and began to talk to a fisherman. I watch from the boat.

Meanwhile the dwarves grew suspicious. "What do you see?" Thorin asked Bilbo. "They're talking.  Wait, his pointing at us. Now they're shaking hands!" "The thief!" Thorin growled. But before anything, fish was thrown on them. Bard got back and steered the boat.

We entered Lake Town. The dwarves groaned under the weight of the fish. Bard kicked one of the barrels. "Ssh! We're at the toll gate." "Can they not keep their mouths shut?" I asked. "I don't think so," replied Bard. "Goods inspection!" Called a familiar voice. "Oh it's you Bard," he said. "Morning Percy." Bard handed over a slip of paper. "Do you have anything to declare?" Asked Percy. "Yes. That I am tired and cold and ready for home." "So am I. Oh! (Y/n) I didn't see you there!" I laughed. "Hi Percy." He smiled and gave Bard the paper. "There we are. All in order."

Before Bard could even extend a hand to take the paper, another hand took it. "Not so fast," said Alfred. "Permission pass to bring empty barrels from the Woodland realm. Only these are not empty, are they?" He said evilly. I glared at him. He glared back and turned to Bard. "I remember you were a bargeman not a fisherman. As he said this he waved one of the fish that revealed one of the eyes of a dwarf.

"Empty the barrels," ordered Alfred. The guards that accompanied him shook the barrels scattering the fish into the lake. "People are starving. Food is scarce. Have a heart Alfred," said Bard. "Its not my problem." "And when the rioting starts... Will it be your problem then?" I asked slyly. He hesitated, then said," Stop." The guards stopped.

"You may be the man of the people Bard... But remember: we know where you live!" Bard moved the boat forward. I said to Alfred," Its a small town. Everybody knows where everyone lives." With that Bard entered the Town. We stopped and the dwarves unloaded themselves. A man looked questionably at them. Bard gave him a coin." You never saw them and they were never here." Before leaving he said," The fish you can have for nothing."

Bain came running towards us. "Da! The house, it's been watched." I knew who ordered such things. That stupid master. We carried on walking after giving the dwarves orders. There were many people. We carried on until we reached Bard's house. Before going in he tossed an apple to the pair of men on a boat pretending to be fishing. "You can tell the master I'm done for the day." We entered the house.

"Da!" Shouted Tilda, when we entered the house. She ran up to him and gave a tight hug. "Da," said Sigrid. "We were worried." Bard gave her the packet of groceries and told Bain,"Get them in." Bain walked down stairs and knocked on the wood. Dwalin's head shot up from the toilet. "If you speak of this to anyone..." He didn't dare say the rest for it could've been horrific. Bain offered his hand but Dwalin slapped it away. Next was Bilbo who accepted Bains help.

They all walked upstairs. "Da... Why are there dwarves coming out of our toilet?" Asked Sigrid. "Do they bring us luck?" Asked Tilda, excitedly. "Not these ones Tilda," I joke. Once all are upstairs, Tilda hands out clothes. "They may not be the best fit but they'll keep you warm," said Bard. "Thank you," said Bilbo as he took a coat from Tilda

"Well. I best be off. See you later Bard. Bye. It has been... Interesting meeting you dwarves." I waved and I'm out. Bard chuckles. "What's wrong?" Asked Kili. "Well. Its funny for her to have manners." "Why?" Asked Bilbo. Bain grinned. "Well, we tried to drown Alfred once." "And would of been successful if the master hadn't been wandering where he was," added Sigrid.

I attempted that again and it failed. Twice now. Oh and this time it was the guards' fault. They found me shoving Alfred's head in a barrel of water. After scolding me they left with Alfred. Humph! What makes him so important?

Alfred arrived at the master's home. He entered and went to the master's room. His Majesty was awake. "Good day sire. How's the arteritis doing?" "Oh terrible! Get me brandy." Alfred went over to a table and poured some brandy. He also took a swig and handed it to the master.
"People growing restless sire," said Alfred. "It's not my fault they live in a place that smells of fish oil and tar," replied the master.

Their conversation carried on until the master went to his study. "There's been a talk of an election sire. Out with the old and in with the new," said Alfred. "What? Who'd want that?" "I think someone's trying to influence them." "Who'd do that. They can't... Bard... He can!" "Aye and that girl that trails with him." "Oh, he's influencing her." "More like she's influencing him," Alfred muttered.

That evening Bard ran around looking for a tapestry. All the people seemed to have recognized the dwarves. He found the tapestry and traced a finger until he found the name. After realizing who Thorin was, he left for the house. "Da! I tried to stop them," said Bain fearfully.

"How long have they been gone?" Oh but the dwarves were far away in the armoury. They gave the weapons to Kili who was not fit to carry them with his injured leg. And truth be told, he fell and alerted the guards. I heard a lot of shouting and such so I went outside.

There were the dwarves in front of the master's home. "What happened?" Asked the master. "Caught 'em stealing weapons sire," replied Braga. "Ah, enemies of the state eh?" "A bunch of desperate mercenaries if there ever were sire," put in Alfred. "Hold your tongue!" Snapped Dwalin. "You do not know to whom you speak! This is Thorin, son of Thrain, son of Thror!" "We are the dwarves of Erebor," Thorin said. He than said that this was no forgotten town... Blah, blah, blah.

"If you allow us to enter the mountain you will all enjoy in the riches of the mountain. You will be able to rebuild Esgaroth ten times over!" There was a raw of approval from the people. "Death!" Shouted a voice. Bard stepped out of the crowd. "That is what you shall bring upon us. Dragon fire and ruin." "Are we forgetting that it was your ancestor who failed to kill the beast!" Put in the master. "I don't see where ancestry became part of this debate," I snapped. The master closed his mouth. "What Bard is saying is true. The prophecy of Durins folk..." I stopped.

"Well tell us," urged the master. I sighed and began,
"The King of silver fountains
The King of carven stone
The King underneath the mountain
Shall come into his own
And the bells will ring in gladness
At the mountain Kings return
But all shall fade in sadness
And the lake will shine and burn."

I finished. All was silent. The dwarves were shocked. I kept quiet. These words didn't affect Thorin. Instead he asked the master whether he was in or not. The master was in. I sighed and made my way out of the crowd. I returned to Bards home. I sat there with Sigrid. And slept over.

I'm the morning the dwarves left for Erebor. Only four stayed behind. Kili was sick. They came to the house. "Please. Kili is sick," begged Fili. I looked at Bard but he didn't say anything. I let them in. Only we didn't know that a pack of orcs were hunting them down.

Some medicines weren't working. "I've got nightshade, feverfew..." Said Bard. "Those have no use to me. Got any kingfoil?" "Its a weed. We feed it to the pigs." "Pigs... Weed," said Bofur. "I'll get it. Don't move," he added to Kili who was moaning with pain." He doesn't have the strength to!" I shouted. We heard a rumble coming from the mountain. The dragon. Fili suggested that they leave.

"And go where?" Asked Bard. "The dragon... Its going to kill us," said Tilda fearfully. "Not if I kill it first," said Bard, yanking a black arrow out. We were shocked. Those... They were never seen after Girion's last stand. Bard ran out and Bain followed. We carried on helping Kili.

Bain returned. While we were working, the roof shook. Why? And before we knew it, orcs. Tilda screamed. They pushed Sigrid but I hit him. The dwarves fought but elves came along. Elves! They fought and after a few minutes the orcs were dead and some fled. Kili screamed in pain. Tauriel (I think that was her name) looked pitifully at him. "Tauriel," said a good looking elf. I think his name was Legolas.

He left and Tauriel followed but stopped. She returned with Bofur. She began to calmly tear away the leaves and petals from the plant. We moved Kili to the table and Tauriel ordered us to hold him down. She pressed it on his wound and began to chant in elvish. He stopped moaning and calmed down. We saved him. She began to bandage his leg. He murmured something and she replied it. I couldn't hear. I was too worried about Bard. Oin expressed his joy in hearing elvish medicine. Fili didn't seemed to care. As long as it helped Kili.

Meanwhile... Bard was stuck in a cell and the dwarves  were trying to find the Arkenstone. Oh and Smaug's awake. How could my life get in such a muddle?!
