Being straightforward has its ups and downs. It can be useful sometimes, but it does have its disadvantages. The disadvantages are exceeding...
Life is unfair to some people and I have the 'honor' of being one of them. Life has blessed me with the present of straightforwardness. Why couldn't I be blessed with singing like Aurora. I've always wanted Fauna's gift but I got one from Malifcent..
In the end, I'm quite satisfied with my life. No one ever said that life is going to be a piece of cake. Ask any person right now if their life is obstacle-free. NO ONE will tell you yes. I once read that if your life doesn't have ups and downs it means you're dead. Problems will constantly be thrown in your face and you'll have to solve them. They're not the type of questions where you find x and y. These questions are useless. Every problem will teach you a very valuable lesson so even if you graduated from school and university you will always be learning. People might be there to help you with your problems but the only person who can help you is you. No matter how big and bad the problem is, it will be okay. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Life isn't perfect but we will all get through it victoriously.
What an inspirational speech, I should write a book called 'How to kick life's ass'. Don't get ahead of yourself Adelaide.
Wow this internal conversation just went from 0-100 real quick..
"Miss Tade... Miss Tade!" Mr. Stevenson shouts bringing me back to reality. I move my eyes away from the window and look at him.
"Can you remind me what's Newton's First law ?" He asks.
"Yes, I can. An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. You thought I wouldn't know, didn't you?" I smile triumphantly.
Everyone laughs and the teacher motions to them to quiet down. He looks back at me and says, "would you please tell us what you were daydreaming about?"
"Something that obviously isn't related to physics," I reply as the teacher rolls his eyes.
"Adelaide!"
"What? I'm just being honest." Everyone laughs once again.
Hailee, best friend number 1, high fives me under the table.
"I'll let it go this time because you answered the question," he says and the bell rings. I quickly pack my stuff and head out of the classroom with Hailee by my side.
"Savage as always Ad, I think he secretly enjoys being destroyed by you," she laughs.
"Thanks Haiz," I smile and hook my hand with her as we continue walking.
I walk to my locker and find Damien standing by my locker. In case you're wondering, Damien is my twin brother. We don't look alike at all! We both have brown hair like our father but I dyed my hair a lighter shade. He got Mum's blue eyes and I got Dad's brown eyes.
Damien is the captain of the basketball team so he's considered popular. The looks and physique add bonus points. I'm on the Netflix and Wattpad team and somehow popular. Thanks to being related to him..
"Hey Dam, what's up ?" I say as he smiles back.
"I'm so sorry but I can't give you a ride home. The coach surprised us with practice today."
"It's fine, I'll take an Uber. See ya later." He walks off to his friends and turn around to find Heather, best friend number 2, standing next to my locker.
"Hi Heather , how are you?" She greets me with a hug.
Hailee and Heather are twins. They're identical, but the difference is their hair color. Heather dyed her hair purple whilst Hailee is the brunette. They're both on the volleyball team therefore making them popular. We bumped into each other in middle school, literally, and instantly clicked. Both with the perfect Au natural African olive skin and sharp black eyes, this immediately puts them amidst the popular students.
Clearly my life circles around a lot of twins...
"We're waiting for you so we can go sit together. They want to sit with us again," she says and I instantly groan in annoyance.
That doesn't mean that we enjoy being popular. It brings too much drama and trouble to our lives.
"Why am I popular again?" I ask as I swap my books. Heather opens her mouth to speak but someone beats her to it.
"Because of your straightforwardness and honesty. You can crush any guy's ego, except mine, in a second and because you're hot," the guy says. That voice sounds very familiar. Where have I heard it ?
I turn around, "No one asked....You," I point at the guy in front of me.
"We meet again Adelaide," he smirks and I let out my tongue in return. Xavier Benjamin, the half American half British douchebag
"I thought you left for good but it would be too good to happen," I sigh as he lets out a laugh.
"I couldn't bare leaving you. I was in Britain but I'm back darling," he adds emphasis on darling. Won't he ever stop calling me that ? I shake my head.
"Get to the point Benjamin. What do you want?" My straightforwardness takes over me.
"Straightforward as ever darling. I need you to mentor me in chemistry," he says in his oh so fancy shmansy British accent.
"Why would I do that? Don't you have many girls wanting to 'tutor' you," I think of any way to escape helping him.
To be honest, I have no problem with helping him as I love helping people even if I despise them. My family is going through rough times right now since my father got released from his job a few months ago. Mom does work but earns enough money to pay for food and the bills.
I mean we're not THAT poor. We just need to restrict splurging or we'll be broke..
I have been working two jobs for the past three years and I've collected money worth college tuition. My parents have money saved for only one of us so I've volunteered to collect money for myself. Damien offered to collect the money himself, but I gave my family an amazing speech to why I should depend on myself blah blah. It is very tiring but it will be worth it in the end. Damien has also been a great help since he worked at a laser tag center during last summer.
I don't want to go through student loans and all that burden. Once I'm done with College, I'm done.
Instead of paying back the government, I'll be paying for sugar, spice, and everything nice...
A round of applause for Adelaide's awful pun skills...
"I'm sorry but I just can't Xavier," I avoid his gaze.
"Wow, you never call me by my name unless it's serious. For that, I'll back down. Thank you for your help," he smiles sadly and walks off. Instantly my conscious hits me with a high dosage of guilt.
The guilt eats me up alive as I walk towards the cafeteria."Hey guys," everyone at the table greets us once we take a seat. Patricia Wilde looks at me with disgust.
"Look who's here, the target clothes girl," she says. Everyone in the cafeteria turns to us ready for today's episode of Cafeteria Drama. Apparently also the lunch ladies are very interested about this live show.
"First of all you need to think of a better comeback then that. Second of all, look who's talking. You have something stuck in between your teeth."
Patricia Wilde, the cheerleader. I think it explains everything.
"Well look at your eyebrows. You plucked them so you're trying to be perfect like me." Her attempts at creating comebacks never fail to impress me.
"FYI I didn't pluck my eyebrows. You also just complimented me and you really need to work on your comebacks," I answer back and she huffs.
"I see you're still not friends," Xavier walks towards our table and I roll my eyes. Of course he'd sit here...
"Nooo, we're totes BFFL," I state sarcastically. He shakes his head as Patricia stands and walks out of the cafeteria.
"And that concludes Cafeteria drama episode 'I stopped counting after 100," I say and bow as everyone laughs and get back to their business since the daily cafeteria drama is over. We take a seat and start eating our food surrounded by the conversations around me.
"There's a soccer match tomorrow, who's going?" Andrea, another cheerleader, says.
"Of course I am. I'll be supporting Captain Xavier ," Leslie, a slutty popular girl, says batting her terribly glued eyelashes at Benjamin
He obviously is the captain of the soccer team. I'm not going to lie, his body is perfect and he's good... at playing soccer
You must've thought of something else you dirty bastard...
"What about you darling?" He raises an eyebrow and stares at me with his chocolate brown eyes as I try to think of an excuse to not go.
Heather beats me to it, "sorry Xavier. We have things to do, parents to help, and things to study." I give her a thankful look and she smiles in return.
"I better go and grab my books. I'll see you later," she says to me and heads off. I look at my sandwich and instantly lose my appetite.
I lift my head up and find myself staring into his hazel eyes. Their color traps you and you can't seem to escape. I wish I could touch them. That's so not creepy...
I shake my head to snap out of my daze and find everyone at the table staring at us while Xavier smirks.
I place the sandwich back in it's container and throw it in my bag. I grab my bag and stand up, "well I better get going."
Patricia walks back in and heads toward me but trips and falls on her heels. Everyone laughs as I quickly head to her and pick her up. I hate her but I won't let her rot in embarrassment.
"Everyone quiet down. I'm sure if you guys were in her place you'd be red as a tomato or be crying. Don't you guys have lives ? We're not like the Kardashians, entertaining you with our daily lives," I say and that shuts them up.
Patricia grabs my hand to stand up. "Thank you," she quietly whispers and walks out again.
"Let's walk together Darling," Xavier comes to stand by my side as I grumble.
"Stop calling me that," I say and he shakes his head in reply. Xavier Benjamin will be the death of me one day...
