2 • Trial Arc
[Before we begin, Two of my favorite writers, AlphaRazer and LowercaseGuy read this book, and I'm baffled— no absolutely starstruck. I've gotten so much positive feed back and I'm less than 4 days got over 100 views and 14 votes. I can't thank you all enough. But that's enough from for now. Let's begin.]
Kyoro yawned as he waited on the elevator. He rubbed his eyes before opening them and seeing Suzune and Kikyō. He froze and began walking away until the two girls grabbed his arms and dragged him into elevator. Suzune pressed a button as Kyoro began sweating bullets.
"Morning, Kyoro." Kikyo said happily. "You've got bedhead all over." She added. "But I always have bedhead— and isn't that the fashion these days." Kyoro said plucking his bangs. "Sure, let's go with that." Kikyo said laughing. "Maybe I can try it so we can twin." She said with a smile. Kyoro smiled and nodded. "I'm surprised to see you with Kikyō, Horikita-san." Kyoro whispered leaning forward.
"She was waiting for me outside my door." Suzune replied. Kyoro laughed before the door opened up. Suzune left, leaving Kyoro and Kikyō to themselves. "Aww. I was really hoping we could walk to school together." Kikyō said with a finger on her chin. "Morning, Kushida-san!" Ichinose said coming out of another elevator. "Ichinose-san." "Kushida-san, is this your boyfriend?" Ichinose asked. Kyoro's face went red as Kikyō gave a devious smile. Kyoro threw her a look that said 'don't you dare.' but Kikyō just ignored him.
"Actually," Kikyō began. "No, at least not yet anyway." She said smiling at the Class B student. "Phew— wait, yet?" Kyoro asked but was silenced by a hand over his mouth. "That reminds me... did you guys get your points today?" Ichinose asked.
•
"There's been a bit of an issue. The provision of points to first-years has been delayed." Chabashira-sensei announced. She looked at Kyoro, who sat in his far back window seat, with a smug grin. Kyoro's eyes were teary and he was sobbing uncontrollably as others complained. "There is nothing I can do. The moment the problem is resolved, the points will be distributed. Assuming you still have points by then." She said looking at Kyoro again. Kyoro glared a bit before standing up and mouthing 'bully', making Chabashira-sensei chuckle under her breath.
~•~
Kyoro was walking back to the dorms while looking at his points. He only had 44,305 left and this was resulted from his previous purchases. Consisting of: a TV, A kitchen area (that is not in other dorms.), groceries for food, lunch specials, stuff for Kikyō, and compensation for Suzune (His teasing). He looked up and saw Ichinose's hand on his chest. He didn't even realize he stopped walking.
"Sorry to call you out like this." Ichinose said sheepishly. 'She did...?' "What's going on?" Kyoro asked trying to play it cool. "I'm
Just going to say it to get it over with..." She said before a silence over took them. Kyoro was getting more and more nervous as time went by. "I think I... am going to get asked out! Right here!" She shouted. "Eh? W-Wouldn't it be better if I wasn't... here?" Kyoro asked. "But I don't know anything about dating. I found this in my locker yesterday." She said holding a pink envelope with a heart sticker sealing it. "I don't feel the same way. And I don't know how to turn the person down without hurting them. So I was wondering... since you aren't dating Kushida yet, would you pretend to be my boyfriend... and..." Ichinose explained. 'That's awfully cliche... and the hell do you mean yet?!' "Please!" "I-I think you'd be better off talking it out with them, one on one..." He said taking a step back. "But..." Ichinose stopped seeing someone behind Kyoro a couple meters away.
"Ichinose-san... who is this?" A girl with light grey hair in a bob, asked. "U-Um, sorry, Chihiro-chan... I brought someone you don't know. This is Keikēko-kun from Class D." She introduced. "Is he... your boyfriend?" She asked with glassy eyes. "Keikēko-kun is... He's my—" "—Friend that was just leaving the scene. Ichinose-san, this is hard for her. She's being very brave coming here. It takes a lot of courage to do this and her feelings deserve a proper answer." He said with a smile. "Not that I know from experience. But, uh, I gotta go so— Ciao!" He said and ran away, and out of sight.
•
Kyoro was lying on a bench outside of the dorms. He was texting Kikyō that he couldn't hang out today before the same girl from before ran away crying. Ichinose walked out and up to the bench before taping his forehead, Kyoro sitting up and giving her a seat.
"I guess you talked it out?" Kyoro asked. "Yeah. I was so focused on how not to hurt her feelings... I was just trying to run away. That was wrong, wasn't it? We said we'd try to go back to normal tomorrow... I wonder if we'll manage it." Ichinose said looking at the sky. "That's all up to you two, I guess." Kyoro said leaning his head back. "Yeah... Sorry for getting you wrapped up in this weirdness today." Ichinose said looking over to him. "I don't mind having a day this calm now and then." Kyoro said with a sigh. "Looks like I owe you one, huh?" Ichinose said with a smile. 'Hm... Neat.' Kyoro thought.
~•~
"I'm telling you, it wasn't like that!" Sudō yelled. Kyoro walked in class with a face of confusion.
"There were three of them!" Sudō added. 'What is going on...?' Kyoro thought at the doorway. "Kyoro... I think something bad might have happened." Kikyō said with a worried tone.
"Basketball club members from Class C have filed a complaint with the school against Sudō. They claim that after practice, Sudō attacked and injured them with no apparent provocation." Chabashira-sensei explained, everyone in their seats. "It was self-defense! Self-defense! They were jealous because I became a regular, so they picked a fight!" Sudō said.
"There's no evidence of that. Though, if there was a witness, it might be a different story." Chabashira-sensei said making him look down. "Everyone! Did anyone happen to see Sudō-kun's fight? Does anyone know anything about it?" Kikyō said standing up. There was only silence as all but one looked at Kikyō, Kyoro saw this but didn't think anything of it, but Suzune did. "Perhaps you'd have been better off getting expelled, Red Hair-kun. Your presence is hardly beautiful." Kōenji said checking himself out with a mirror. Sudō stood up angrily but Hirata stood up as well.
"Sudō-kun! Don't!" Hirata shouted. "In one week's time, there will be a discussion with Class C, with the student council in attendance. Depending on how it turns out, there may be a forfeiture of points, as well as disciplinary measures for Sudō." Chabashira-sensei said making Sudō click his tongue.
•
Elsewhere...
"Those Class D apes must be throwing a fit right now." Ryūen said before taking a sip from a wine glass. His entire class was in a... karaoke room? Suddenly, a male who was bruised and beat up walked in the room. "Ryūen-san... I think we might have been seen. When we fought with Sudō, I got the feeling someone else was nearby..." he said before a tall, African American male stood in front of him. "Bad boy." He said in English and raised his fist. He began beating him up as Ryūen swirled the drink in his cup. The same African American slammed the beaten up male's head on to the table in front of him, presenting that he looked even worse before lifting him to Ryūen's face.
"You look like a proper victim now." Ryūen said pouring his drink over the boy's head. "Th-Thank you, sir." "Perform your dance well, just as planned." Ryūen added.
•
Back in the classroom...
"And it's all Sudō's fault. This sucks..." Ike said. "Another month of living with zero points..." Yamauchi said in the same disappointed tone. "Maybe we'd have been better off if he had been expelled." A girl said. "I hear you.." Another replied.
"Do you agree with the—" Suzune starte. "Yes." Kyoro interrupted. "Without your answer being affected by your mood." She added. "I don't have an opinion, then. What do you think as one of the people who helped him?" He asked. "At the moment, we have zero points. Even if we had been penalized for losing someone to expulsion, we couldn't have lost anymore." Suzune explained. "Yeah, sure, I guess." Kyoro said before placing his head on his arms.
"What? I don't like the way you said that." Suzune expressed. "You never know when we might be experiencing losses or gains we can't see." He said with a sigh. "What does that mean?" She asked.
"There might be negative point values we're gaining that we just aren't shown. Demerits for an expulsion might not hit us now, but rather, in the future. For instance, 'No Expulsions' might be a condition for reaching Class A." Kyoro explained. "You're splitting hairs." Suzune said. "...This is the last time I give my input." He said with a glare. "Anyway, we don't know how the school system works. If you want to reach Class A, you should eliminate any threats to that goal you can conceive of." Kyoro said with a shrug. "Besides, Sudō's athletic, and he has good standing in his club. He might come in handy—" He was cut off by Hirata speaking up.
"Everyone, listen to me. I want to trust my classmates. Why don't we work together to hunt for witnesses and clues?" He asked from the teacher's podium. "Cool, I'm in." Kei said with her hand up. "I'm in, too! If we don't believe in him, who will?" Kikyō said. "If Kushida-chan says so—" Yamauchi started. "—I'm totally in!" Ike ended.
"Hey, Kyoro, Horikita-san... You'll work with us, won't you?" Kikyō asked at Kyoro's desk. "Given all you've said, I'm sure you'll be helping, won't you?" Suzune asked Kyoro. "Well, it's not like I'm not aiming for Class A—" Kyoro began. "You'll help us? Thanks!" Kikyō said in his face making him lean back. "...Oh, how the turntables. Sure, guess I will." Kyoro said with a sigh. "Horikita-san, will you..." Kikyō said but stopped seeing her walk away and out of the classroom.
"Let's do our best together." Kikyō said to Kyoro. "But if we're looking for witnesses... Sudō-kun himself should probably stay out of it, right?" Kikyō asked.
"Yeah, it wouldn't look good to get the interested party involved." Kyoro said lifting his upper body back up. "Yeah... Okay. I'll tell Sudō-kun about that myself. See you after class, okay?" She said in his face again. 'Do you want me to kiss you?' Kyoro thought staring into her eyes.
~•~
"As expected..." Kyoro said seeing Kikyō, Ike, and Yamauchi sitting on the fountain with tired faces.
"We couldn't find any witnesses or clues." Kikyō said with her head down. "There's still the chance Sudō might be lying, too." Yamauchi spoke up. "No kidding." Ike agreed.
"What about Hirata's group?" Kyoro asked. "I asked, but it looks like they didn't find anything." Kikyō said looking at her phone. "Hey! Keikēko-kun! Kushida-san!" Ichinose said approaching them. "Ichinose-san?" "Some people in my class told me about it... Are you investigating something?" Ichinose asked. A brief explanation later...
"I see... Class C..." "Yeah. So if anyone knows anything, we want to hear about it." Kikyō said. "Sorry. I don't know anything myself... Class B will help you look for clues, though." Ichinose said. "Really? That's—" Kikyō was cut off when Kyoro grabbed her collar and pulled her back making her squeal. "What are you doing?!" Kikyō asked. 'It's probably a scheme.' "I'm not sure we should rely on the other classes for—" Kyoro was cut off— "Don't worry! I won't do anything weird. I owe you one, remember, Keikéko-kun?" Ichinose said making the other three stare at him. Kyoro side-eyed the two males making them back off but keep their glares. 'I'm tired of this...' He thought closing his eyes.
•
Kyoro was looking at a bulletin board by a outdoor track. On it was a notice about the search for a witness for Sudō's incident.
"Keikēko-kun!" Ichinose said walking up to him along with another male. "H-Hey. This notice..." Kyoro said with his hands in his pockets. "Yeah, it was Kanzaki-kun's idea." She said addressing the tall male with pale purple hair and yellow eyes. "We're soliciting information through the class' online message board..." She said pulling out her phone. "We have an email already." She said. "What does it say?" Kanzaki asked. "Apparently one of the boys Sudō-kun fought with, Ishizaki-kun, was pretty wild in middle school. It says he was good in a fight, too, and everyone in the area was afraid of him." Ichinose informed. "If the other two are in the basketball club, they're probably pretty strong. It doesn't add up that Sudō would be able to beat up all three without taking a hit." Kanzaki said. "That's true..." Ichinose added.
"It's possible that they wanted him to beat them up. If they did this to set Sudō up, things would make a lot more sense." Kanzaki inferred. 'Woah, this guys pretty smart.' Kyoro thought with a small smirk. "I agree. Anyway, I should pay the one who sent the information... Oh, it's anonymous. I wonder how I'll send them the points." Ichinose said. "I know how." Kyoro said. "Tell me, then!" Ichinose said walking to his side, Kyoro ignoring the amount of cleavage touching him. '...No comment...' "I'll need to borrow you student ID." Kyoro said. "Sure." She gave him the phone and Kyoro began working his magic. After a moment he finished. "There." It finished and Kyoro saw a glimpse of her points. "There we go!" She said taking the phone back. "Thanks! If I get any more info, I'll let you know!" Ichinose said before walking away with Kanzaki. "Sure thing." Kyoro said with a wave. '2 MILLION FUCKING POINTS?! HOW THE FUC—' He thought getting ready to throw his phone.
~•~
"Why the hell are you all here? Sudō get off my bed!" He said in annoyance. He was looking at the three idiots and Kikyō in his dorm.
"Hey, welcome back, Kyoro." Kikyō said by his desk. "I rounded everyone up for you. It's a meeting to pool what we've learned!" She added. 'Get these assholes out of here before I commit arson an—' "I still don't understand how you installed a kitchen area." Ike said. "Hard work, a lot of points." Kyoro said with a sigh. "But you don't have many personal belongings either." Kikyō said searching. "It's all the provided stuff. Are you a minimalist, Kyoro?" Kikyō asked.
"Not really, I just don't have the points because of two certain people!" Kyoro said with a glare towards the giggling Kikyō. "How did you all get in here anyway?!" "We had duplicate keys made—" Ike, Yamauchi, and Kikyō said holding three of his keycards. The keys were snatched by Kyoro and he took a lighter out from a drawer and began burning them. "Kyoro?!" "This is our meeting place!" "Don't care. Ask next time." He said as they became a liquid. He dropped the remains in a trash can before pulling out a spare card. "I only gave you one, Kikyō." He said handing it to her. Suddenly he heard his doorbell ring. He went to the door and opened it to see Suzune.
"Horikita-san." Kyoro started. "Regarding witnesses..." she saw the extra shoes at his doorstep. "I'm leaving." Suzune announced. "Nope. I have to deal with them, so do you!" Kyoro said pulling her in. She began to struggle and grabbed the doorway. Kyoro grabbed waist and pulled in before shutting the door. "You're not leaving without me getting that information. Now talk." He said with sinister grin while guarding the door.
"...Tch. There was a witness. It's someone close by." Suzune informed with a glare. "You know who it is?" Kyoro asked. "It's Sakura-San from our class." 'Best Girl?' Kyoro thought but felt to dark energies in the room. 'The hell?!' He said feeling scared.
•
Kikyō was trying to call Sakura, Kyoro was beside Suzune, who was sitting at his desk and gazing at the door. The three idiots occupying his bed.
"What makes you think Sakura saw it?" Kyoro asked. "In class, when Kushida-san made her plea for aid, most everyone turned their attention on her, while she alone kept her eyes pointed downward. She alone." Suzune said before trying to stand. Kyoro pushes her lightly back into the seat with a smirk. 'Dang. I'm pretty observant but my judgement must be bad. I totally ignored that...' Kyoro thought as Suzune glared at him.
"No use. She's not answering..." Kikyō announced. "Damn. After we finally got some useful info..." Sudō said turning on his side. "Oi! Don't get comfortable!" Kyoro said but only got brushed off. 'No crimes, Kyoro. No crimes.' He thought balling his fist.
"But even if she was willing to testify, it wouldn't mean much. The question of whether it was self-defense or not is a trivial detail. Haven't you realized that?" Suzune asked. "What do you mean?" Kikyō asked. "Nothing at all." She said standing up. "Is that all?" Kyoro asked. "Yes. Not stop holding me hostage, pervert." She said walking to the door. "Hostage?! Pervert?!" "Goodbye." Suzune said leaving.
~•~
Kyoro was lying on his bed with a blank yet slightly annoyed face.
'I'm washing my sheets. It reeks of idiot.' He thought standing up. 'Sakura, huh? Best girl of Class D...' he thought before hearing his doorbell. He opened it and saw Kikyō. "Kikyō?" He asked in confusion.
"There's something I've been wondering. "Do you understand what Horikita-san was talking about?" She asked.
•
"Even if what happened was self-defense, that's not the root of the problem." Kyoro said. He and Kikyō were outside during the night, walking peacefully. "Sudō is always talking trash and lashing out. He acts in a way that inevitably earns resentment. He makes a terrible impression on those around him. Let's say that murder takes place. There are two suspects. One has killed in the past. The other is a virtuous, law-abiding citizen. Which would you believe?" Kyoro asked, staring at the sky above them.
"The law abiding citizen, I guess." Kikyō answered. "They might not actually be so. But with so little evidence to go on, people have to make decisions based on what they have." Kyoro added. "You're saying Sudō-kun brought this on himself with his history and behavior?" Kikyō asked. "And Sudō doesn't feel he's done anything wrong. That's probably why Horikita is so uncooperative." Kyoro said with a shrug. "But I think we still need to say something. That's what it means to be friends." Kikyō said. "You should follow through on what you feel is right. It's not wrong to do that." Kyoro added. "Yeah..."
"But I guess you really do know everything about Horikita-san, huh?" Kikyō asked with a frown. "I-I don't think that's true." Kyoro said but turned around and saw Kikyō had stopped walking. "Hey, Kyoro. Do you... do you think... If I... If I... No, never mind." She said with a smile. 'She's still scared to open up...' Kyoro thought with a straight face. "Regarding Sakura-san, I'll go talk to her by myself tomorrow. She'd probably put her guard up if we all went together. See ya, Kyoro!" She said before walking the other way. Kyoro just sighed. 'It's like midnight and it's a long walk back home... I could sleep on ben— Nope. I'm walking.' He said before turning around.
~•~
"Sakura-san!" Kikyō said walking up to Sakura in the hallway. Kyoro and Suzune off to the side.
"Wh-What?" She said shyly. "There's something I'd like to ask you. Do you mind? It's about Sudō-kun." Kikyō asked.
"S-Sorry, I... I have plans." She said before starting to walk away. Before she could Kikyō grasped her hands. "It won't take long. It's important!" Kikyō added. "I-I don't know! I don't know anything!" She shouted making Kikyō release her hands, but Sakura didn't expect it and fell forward, dropping her camera. "S-Sorry! Are you okay?" Kikyō asked in concern.
Sakura sat up and picked up her camera in panic. She tried multiple times to turn it on but the screen stayed black. "No way... It won't turn on..." Sakura whimpered. "Sorry! I..." Kikyō began. "No, it was my own fault." She said before running away. "Wait!" Kikyō shouted.
Meanwhile with Kyoro...
'BEST GIRL— I'M SORRY! I'M SO, SO SORRY!' He screamed in his head.
~•~
'Why am I here...?' Kyoro thought while standing in front of Kikyō and Sakura. The three were at the mall in casual clothing. Kyoro was wearing a white three-quarter sleeve shirt with three beige stripes across it, black slacks, and white trainers. As an accessory he had a gold rimmed pair of aviator shades on his shirt.
"I'm sorry to make you come with me for this." Sakura said with a bow. "I'm the one who should apologize. I'm the one who broke your digital camera." Kikyō retorted. "N-No, I should've been... more... careful..." Sakura trailed off looking towards Kyoro.
"You're going to the electronics store in the mall to fix your digital camera. I understand that much... but did you really need me?" Kyoro asked, the three sitting at a round table under a parcel. Kyoro sipped his coffee before side-eyeing a giggling Kikyō. "Actually..." Sakura started.
•
"Ah, look at that. That's no good. I see. It's a power issue. Yeah, that's no good..." a scruffy looking man said inspecting Sakura's camera. Kikyō and Sakura were at the service repair counter in the electronics store.
"Do you have your warranty? Your warranty..." he asked making Sakura jump. "Did you bring the warranty with you?" Kikyō asked beside her. Sakura nodded before handing him the warranty with shaky hands. "Oh, it's within the warranty period. You could have the faulty part... replaced... free of charge." He said looking at her with ominous eyes. Sakura flinched again with a scared face. Kyoro was off to the side watching with a slight glare.
'I can see why this guy would be hard for Sakura, who's afraid of strangers, to deal with. I guess she wanted strength in numbers.' Kyoro thought looking at camera that was on sale with a skeptic look, the placement being a little too convenient.
"Can you tell us how long it will take?" Kikyō asked. "Two or three days. Yeah, two or three. Could you fill out this form?" The man asked Sakura. "We need you address, name, and... cell phone number." He said with a creepy tone. Sakura's breath hitched as she began to pick up the pen, her hand shaking again. "Sakura-san?" She said taking her out of her state of panic. "R-Right..." she said turning back to the man. The man was currently turning his head with an eerie hum. Sakura's panicked state returned before Kyoro stepped beside her.
"Pen." He said with his hand out. Sakura looked over to him before handing him the pen. "When the repairs are finished, contact me." Kyoro said signing his information, Sakura staring at him with a tint of pink on her cheeks. "H-Hey, you..." the man started. "The camera belongs to her, doesn't it? I'm not sure we can—" The man was interrupted by Kyoro. "The manufacturer's warranty confirms the location and date of purchase. You confirmed that warranty a few seconds ago. I couldn't possibly imagine how there'd be a legal issue." Kyoro said puting his shades on. "A-Are you sure?" The man asked. He looked at Kyoro's eyes and saw the shine a bit, spooking him and making him snatch the paper. "Well, I guess we'll do that, then." He said with a defeated tone.
~•~
"Um... Thank you for your help today." Sakura said lowering her head. The three back at the cafe table.
"No problem. It was my own fault, anyway. But, Sakura-san, you can talk normally with us, okay? We are in the same grade." Kikyō said. "Yeah, you've been awfully formal. You're making me feel old, and I'm younger than you..." Kyoro said with a chuckle. "U-Um.. I... S-Sure. I'll try." Sakura said. "No need to force it, either." Kikyō added. "I-I'm okay." "Sure." Kyoro smiled before sipping his third coffee. "One sec, okay? I'm gonna go freshen up." Kikyō said standing up and leaving, Kyoro spitting out his coffee to the side. He wiped his mouth as Sakura glanced at him.
'What the hell...' he thought taking another sip. 'This silence... it's not bad... but I don't think it's her preference.' Kyoro thought taking a look at Sakura, said girl staring into space. Sakura lifted her head and went to speak and Kyoro gave her his attention but she looked down again.
"Is something wrong, Sakura?" Kyoro asked. "Um... what do you think would be the best thing to do?" Sakura asked. "You mean about Sudō? I mean, it's up to you. I say you do whatever you want." Kyoro said placing his head in his arms. 'It's his signature pose!' Sakura thought in awe. "Whatever I..." Sakura started. "Yup." Kyoro said, popping the 'p' at the end of the word. "If I don't say anything, I think I'll regret it." She commented. "Why are you telling me this?" Kyoro said while trying not to sound rude.
"You're eyes are comfortable. They give me a feeling of security." Sakura informed. "My eyes?" Kyoro asked with interest. "Sorry. It's hard to explain..." She added. "I-If you need advice, Kikyō would be more amicable. She was today, too." He said placing his head in his palm. 'Is it her intuition? She's grateful, but for some reason, she can't fully trust Kikyō. That's what it seems like.' Kyoro thought sipping his coffee again but finding it empty. He frowned before grabbing the one next to it. "You said you would regret it if you didn't say anything." Kyoro said. "Yes." Sakura answered. "I think that's the only answer you need, then." Kyoro said with a smile. "Not for Sudō. Not for Kikyō. Not for your classmates. Don't think like that." Kyoro said. "Don't...?" Sakura asked. "You don't have to burden yourself with all of this. You should testify for your own sake." Kyoro added. "For my... sake?" Sakura asked with a blush. "That should be enough on its own." Kyoro said making Sakura stare in awe.
"Sorry for the wait." Kikyō said making Sakura jump. "W-Welcome back." Sakura said messing with her hair, her blush still on her face. "Well, think we should call it a day?" Kikyō asked. "It is pretty late." Kyoro said picking up his three cups, two empty. "Yeah," Kikyō began but walked up to Kyoro. "Can I come by your room later, Kyoro?" Kikyō asked. 'I don't like how she worded that...' Kyoro thought with a face of panic.
~•~
Kikyō sat down on Kyoro's bed with a huff and a smile.
"Normally, you don't ask to enter my room, so what up?" Kyoro asked. "I was actually looking some things up on the internet earlier. Does this girl look familiar to you?" She said showing Kyoro her phone. She went through pictures of a girl with long, pink hair and large assets and revealing clothing doing poses. Kyoro started in silence before sighing.
"Why are you showing me light porn?" He asked lowering the phone. "No! J-Just answer the question!" Kikyō said flustered. "It's Sakura. It's hard to say just from the face and build, but... This picture was taken in one of our dorms." He said going to a picture of her posing with her dorm desk in the background. "So it is her!" Kikyō said. "I wondered why she wore fake glasses..." Kyoro said with his eyes glowing a bit. "They're fake?" "There was no distortion behind the lenses." Kyoro informed. "So she's trying to hide her face? Is that why she wouldn't testify?" She asked before getting a notification. "It's from Sakura-san. Let's see... She says she might be able to help with Sudō-kun!" Kikyō exclaimed. "I guess going with her today was worth it." Kyoro said sitting in his desk chair.
"I'm glad she decided to trust us, but I wonder why..." She said lowly. "Hey. Kyoro, isn't there anything you're trying to hide?" Kikyō asked. 'Hmm. I guess the only thing is my intellect. But she's probably already figured that out...' Kyoro thought with a hand on his chin.
~•~
"W-What? What is it— you're glaring!" Kyoro said in his seat beside Suzune.
"Did you spend your day off with Kushida-san?" Suzune asked. "Y-Yeah, because of the thing with Sakura. Though we couldn't get her word that she would share what she knows." Kyoro explained. "I see..." Suzune said. "What's the matter?" Kyoro asked.
"What do you mean, what's the matter?" Suzune asked. "Well, y-you're still glaring at me. Quite the expression..." Kyoro answered. "Really? I don't agree. This is how I always look. Although I am surprised by how self-serving you've been lately. You hesitate when I ask for help but when Kushida-san asks, you comply immediately. I'm attempting to analyze, rationally and carefully, the factors that account for the difference." Suzune stated. Kyoro stared with a blank face before smiling smugly. "Well, it doesn't matter." Suzune said turning forward. "Tsun~..." Kyoro mumbled.
"What's more important is that the student council's picked the day for Sudō's hearing." Suzune said. "Okay, when?" "Today after class." Suzune said looking back at him. Kyoro's eyes widen and he froze.
~•~
"We will now hold deliberations regarding the violent incident that occurred last Tuesday." Tachibana, the student council secretary said. Kyoro, Suzune, Sudō, and Chabashira-sensei on one side of the long, arched table. The 'victims' and their teacher on the other side. Manabu and Tachibana at the apex of the arc. Kyoro had his head in his hand panicking internally.
"As Student Council Secretary, I, Tachibana, will preside." She added. "The student council president, coming in over a brawl like this? Wonders never cease, I suppose..." Chabashira-sensei said glancing between Kyoro and Manbu. "Due to my busy schedule, there are some agendas I'm forced to miss participating in. As a rule, though, I do attend." Manabu explained. "So it's just a coincidence, is it?" Chabashira-sensei asked. "Yes." Manabu said glancing at a distraught Suzune.
'She wasn't expecting the president to be here and neither was I!' Kyoro thought staring into space to avoid his gaze. 'Come on, girl! I need you to bring out your full potential!— Ace Attorney in this bitc—'
"To both sides: I wish to ascertain which version of the events is the truth. Is that acceptable?" Tachibana asked Manabu. "Begin." He responded. "Komiya and the other two, you insist you were called to the special annex by Sudō and then attacked by him. Sudō denied this. He insists that Komiya was the one who called him there. Your versions of the events are contradictory. There is only one fact we can be certain of: the aggressor, Sudō, injured Komiya, Kondo, and Ishizaki. They are the victims." Tachibana stated before Sudō stood up with his hands on the table. "I'll admit that I hit them! But they're the ones who started it!" He shouted before the other three began argue with him.
'The hell is he doing?! You idiot! It doesn't matter— their injuries say otherwise. Come on, Horikita, I don't wanna start referencing stuff!' Kyoro thought. "Horikita." Kyoro whispered, but received no response. "Silence, please. Without new testimony or evidence, we will proceed under these assumptions. Is this acceptable?" Tachibana asked. Silence... "It seems there was no need for discussion." Manabu commented. "It's clear from the state of their injuries that the violence was one-sided. I believe I should base my decision on that. Class D's insistence that it was self-defense is contradicted by Sudō-mum's lack of injuries," Tachibana started as Kyoro reached his hand towards Suzune's hip.
'If I'm embarrassing myself, you're getting embarrassed with me!' Kyoro said before tickling her side with an evil grin, his eyes glowing brightly. She yelped in shock before squirming around as everyone stared. She kept moving around in her seat as Kyoro gave a satisfied smirk to no one in particular, his hand still grabbing and tickling her side. She stood up and continued to squirm showing that Kyoro was the culprit of this event. "Keikē— S-St— What?!" She said flailing around. Kyoro kept up his action before giving his smirk to the president. "S-Stop it! What are you—?!" Suzune continued to shout. 'This is so worth it...' Kyoro thought not breaking eye contact with Manabu. "Hey!" She said as Kyoro stopped. She gave him the best glare she could muster but it wasn't doing much with the blush on her face. Kyoro turned to her without his smirk faltering, Chabashira-sensei smiling beside him.
"Now that you're back, if you didn't hear," he said before motioning towards the others. "We are losing. You've got a job to do." He said with a chuckle. Horikita looked around and noticed everyone staring. "I beg your pardon. I would like to question the witnesses." Suzune said fixing her skirt. "May I?" She asked. "President?" Tachibana asked.
"I'll allow it." Manabu said. Horikita took a deep breath before returning to her usual manner. "What were the circumstances under which Sudō-kun called you out?" Suzune asked. They gave a weird noise of confusion in response. "Answer me."
"After practice ended, he said he wanted to talk to me." Komiya informed. "And what was Ishizaki-kun doing in the special annex with you? He's not in the basketball club. There was no reason for him to be there." Suzune asked. "I... wanted insurance." Komiya responded. "Insurance?" Suzune questioned. "Everyone knows what a violent guy Sudō-kun is. He's a big guy, too!" Komiya answered. "You thought he might attack you, then?" Suzune asked. "That's right."
'B-list movie script much! Those aren't coming out of your ass. I've got something for you, then. False Confidence— ACTIVATE!' Kyoro thought. "So you three just couldn't throw a punch, grab him, maybe even— oh, I don't know— hurt him at all!" Kyoro said with an uninterested gaze. "What's that supposed to mean?" Ishizaki asked. "Dude, you're like, a head taller than me, and even I could at least give Sudō a bruise." Kyoro said waving Ishizaki away with a smirk. Ishizaki growled and went to stand up but was quickly stopped by Kondō stepping on his foot. "Woah there! Almost had ya' didn't I?" Kyoro said lowly. "Continue, partner." Kyoro added looking at Suzune. "You brought Ishizaki-kun, who had a reputation as being a strong fighter in middle school, as a bodyguard?" Suzune asked. "I did it to protect myself!" Komiya exclaimed. "And how'd that work out for ya'?" Kyoro asked with chuckle, Ishizaki growling more and balling his fist. "I have some knowledge of martial arts myself. Fighting multiple enemies increases the difficulty exponentially. As my partn— classmate sai—" "Say it~." Kyoro whispered. "Partner said," Suzune said giving Kyoro a slight glare. "For you to be beaten so one-sidedly, especially with Ishizaki-kun present, makes no sense." Suzune finished.
"Well... that's just because we didn't want a fight!" Komiya said. "If you had no desire to fight, and you weren't fighting back, it's extremely unlikely that all three of you would be hurt." Suzune added. "That does sound like common sense." Chabashira-sensei added on top of that. "Common sense doesn't apply when Sudō-kun's involved! He's an incredibly violent man!" Komiya exclaimed. "Psh~ Okay, buddy. We'll laugh later. Anyway, there was a student who witnessed the entire fight." Kyoro said with a smug smile. Everyone but Suzune, Manabu, and Chabashira-sensei were shocked visibly. "Would the witness step forward, please?" Kyoro asked, the double doors to the room opening and Sakura walking in.
"Would the witness please state her name?" Tachibana asked. "C-Class 1-D, Sakura Airi." She said holding her hands together. "Please take your seat." Tachibana said. "Okay..." Sakura took her seat and closed her eyes at Manabu's glare. "Oi. Can ya' leave the girl alone, Pres?" Kyoro asked making Manabu state at him before giving a calmer look to Sakura. "Go ahead, Sakura." Kyoro said giving her a smile. "I did see it. The Class C students attacked Sudō-kun first. I'm... sure of it." Sakura said trembling.
"Sakura-kun, was it?" Sakagami-sensei started. "If you really did see it, why didn't you step forward sooner?" He asked. "Well... because..." She hesitated. "Honestly, you Class D's..." Sakagami-Sensei said in response. "I'm just... telling the truth..." She whimpered. "Sakura-kun. Sakura Airi-kun. Are you sure you're not being forced to lie for the sake of your class? To save Sudō-kun?" Sakagami-sensei asked. "Couldn't the same be said for you?" Kyoro asked with straight face, Sakagami-Sensei looking at Kyoro with interest. "I think we can all agree that technically, this could just be set up. One that you're in on— but whose to tell? Given that you only started to speak when you saw someone vulnerable, I'd assume someone's in a bind— Aren't they?!" Kyoro said standing up. The three Class C students flinched from his sudden aggressiveness. "You think we'd just get some random student, and just have them randomly say they saw— without evidence?!" Kyoro shouted with a smirk. "Perhaps you used someone like her to lend further credibility." Sakagami said leaning back a bit. "Credibility? Credibility? That's just nonsense," Kyoro started. "Stop twisting everything." Suzune finished. "Sakura came here in good faith—" Kyoro started but was cut off by Sakagami-sensei. "Stop taking advantage of your well-meaning but weak willed classmates." He said putting a hand to his head.
"That's not what we're doing!" Suzune said raising her voice. "But look at her trembling! Don't put any more burden on—" Sakagami was this time cut off by Kyoro. "Can it, Sensei. It's a little thing we call anxiety, and personality. Not very bright for teacher, Honestly, you Class C's..." Kyoro said with a smug smile, Sakagami-sensei growing irritated yet keeping his calm demeanor. "Sakura, take it away!" Kyoro added.
"I have proof! I do have... proof!" Sakura exclaimed. "Please don't dig this hole any deeper." Sakagami-sensei commented. "This is proof that I was in the special annex that day!" Sakura said taking out and SD card. Sakagami-Sensei went quiet as Manabu lifted his head. "Display it." Manabu demanded. "Okay." Tachibana said and took the SD card from Sakura. Suddenly the windows of the room were covered by metal plates and the lights were turned off.
"That day... I was looking for somewhere deserted to take pictures of myself. It's dated, too." She said as a picture of her in a two piece bikini showed up on the white board through a projector. Kyoro plugged his nose with his hoodies strings as the other boys stared with interest. "Dates on a digital camera can easily be altered. It's rather insubstantial, as proof goes." Sakagami-sensei commented.
"Oh, do tell. Pres, if you would." Kyoro said sitting down. "Sakagami-sensei, this picture is different." Manabu said before the board showed Sakura taking a selfie, but the Class C students were holding Sudō. "With this..." Manabu zoomed into so they could see their faces, proving it was them. "I hope you believe I was their that day." Sakura said. "Thank you, Sakura-san." Suzune said. Sakura smiled seeing Kyoro's smile and Suzune's determined gaze.
"I see." Sakagami-sensei began, the lights turning on and the metal plates shifting away. "It seems you were telling the truth about being present. But we still don't know who instigated it. It doesn't prove that you saw everything that went down, either." He stated. "But I..." Sakura let out. "Might a propose a compromise?" Sakagami-sensei asked Chabashira-sensei.
"A compromise?" She asked. "Despite your pictures, you have no definitive proof. However, it does appear that the Class C students bear some responsibility... A two-week suspension for Sudō-kun, and a one-week suspension for the Class C students. How about it?" Sakagami-sensei asked, his students giving smug looks to Kyoro and Sudō. "The difference in punishment is based on the difference in harm done to them." He added. "Chabashira-sensei, what do you think?" He asked.
"It seems the conclusion has already been reach—" "No deal!" Kyoro shouted with an even smugger smirk than before, the Class C students gasping and Sakagami-sensei raising an eyebrow. "I think we've skipped over something major... President!" Kyoro said standing again. "Let's see, what's the punishment for lying during this court case?" Kyoro asked looking at Manabu. "Expulsion." Manabu said glaring yet having a small smile. "Hmm... okay, then. Now! Komiya-kun, didn't you say that you didn't want a fight?" Kyoro asked his eyes glowing brighter, Chabashira-sensei smirking while watching Kyoro talk. "Y-Yes—" "Oh, No! Do you know what that means?" Kyoro said feigning shock. "Pres, can you pull up the photo in the special annex?" "Display it." "Okay." The picture appeared again along with the metal plates and the parting of the lights. "Zoom in on the four... right there! Now, look at Ishizaki's hand. Now, correct me if I'm wrong but— this doesn't look like apprehension. This looks a lot like... confrontation! Using logic, and common sense of course. But wait! There's more! Notice how Kondō looks like he's in stride. A wind up maybe? Attempting to get by? But, he's not looking at the exit. So that's a no." He pauses looking at the three boys faces of shock and terror. "So, let me ask you again. Didn't you say that you didn't want a fight?" Kyoro asked with a calm glare and a smirk. A brief silence overtook the room before Kyoro sat down. "I rest this case." He said pretending to drop a mic. The looks of pure horror on the Class C students faces made Kyoro smile with closed eyes.
"So it seems that one side offered false testimony. The punishment... Expulsion. Your notice of expulsion will be issued immediately. That is all." Manabu said.

Kyoro was outside of the room with Sakura and Suzune. Kyoro was celebrating internally before Sakura spoke up.
"Sorry... I should've just spoken up from the start, but I didn't have... the courage..." she said before Kyoro hugged the two. "What are you talking about— We won!" He shouted before Suzune elbowed his side and escaped his grasp. "I'm surprised by your observational skills. Goodbye." Suzune said walking away. "See you later, Partner!" Kyoro said with a wave. Suddenly, Manabu and Tachibana walked out of the room.
"You're still here?" Manabu asked. "When you showed up with Suzune, I assumed you some strategy... apart from violating my sister in my presence," he added with a glare. "It would seem I was right."
"Hmm. Since we're bringing up violation, what about that alley..." Kyoro said with a glare, the two stared at each other as the two girls looked at them with shock, practically seeing sparks shooting between them. "Sakura, was it?" Manabu suddenly said. He walked to her as she looked at him. "Yes." "You mask is nothing but a shackle." He said referencing that the photo did prove much with out Kyoro. "I... I... only told the truth..." She stuttered under his glare. Kyoro slightly moved Sakura out of the way before returning to his own glare.
"I believed her." Kyoro said in a challenging tone. "I see." Manabu began. "In that case..." Manabu said before shooting his hand at Kyoro, Kyoro dodging with a side step and a calm face. The two girls watched as the two stood off. "But could you prove it?" Manabu asked.
"Top 10 questions that the world can't answer." Kyoro said with a smirk. 'Seems there's gonna be a challenge at this school. Goodbye peaceful life, it was fun but... Game Start!'

Sakura was walking back to the dorms beside Kyoro, an exasperated look on his face. 'I'm supposed to get the notice about the camera tomorrow...' "Sakura-san." "Yes." She said turning to him.
"Here's my number for the repair of your camera." He said giving her his phone. She blushed before grabbing it and exchanging contact information. "I'll let you know when I get the camera. But it doesn't have to be like that all the time. If you need me, I'll be there." Kyoro added with smile. "Thank you..." Sakura said with a smile of her own.

Kyoro was walking through the mall and to a cafe. 'Time to spoil myself! I definitely deserve it...' He said spotting the cafe in the distance. Kyoro was wearing his pink hoodie and shoes with bleached, ripped jeans. He walked in the cafe before ordering and taking it to the same table from the day with Kikyō and Sakura. He placed his four coffees on the table with a smile. He began to drink one while taking his phone out. He began scrolling through the news as he sat in silence.
'Kim Jung-Un is dead? Surprising. What's not surprising is that 15 minutes can save you 15% on car insurance...' Kyoro thought before laughing out loud. 'Man... I crack myself up...' He thought scrolling some more. Kyoro saw a familiar flock of pink hair walk under some of the mall stairs and out of sight. Kyoro raised an eyebrow before shrugging and going back to his phone. Suddenly he got a call from Sakura. "Sakura?" Kyoro asked aloud before answering. "Hello—" "Keikēko-kun—" She said before gasping. Kyoro's eyes glowed before he grabbed a coffee and ran while checking his phone.

Meanwhile, Sakura was being pinned against the wall by the same man from the electronics store in an alley way. Sakura was squirming as he covered her mouth.
"Shh! Keep it down..." the man whispered. He smiled sinisterly before going on a tangent. "D-Did you... Did you read my letters? Y-You see how I feel now, right? Right?" He asked making Sakura close her tear-filled eyes and look away. "Wh-Why'd you keep avoiding me? Y-You're so precious to me... You know that, don't you?" He asked before uncovering mouth as Sakura dropped to the ground in despair.
"Help me..." she whimpered, she looked over to her phone that was behind the man on the floor. Sakura began to recall what Kyoro said the day before.
'If you need me, I'll be there for you.'
Sakura, in desperation, shoved the man's leg away and reached for her phone. She picked it up but the man attempted to stop her.
"Let me go!" Sakura shouted. "C-Cut it out!" The man yelled. "Damn it!" The man yelled taking the phone, Sakura hitting the floor from the tussle. The man crouched down and crawled over top of Sakura. "Now, listen good. If you don't do what I say, I'll put the real you on the net for all to see." The man threatened. Sakura looked at him in horror making the man flustered. "What's wrong? Why're you looking at me like that?" She closed her eyes and did it again. "D-Don't like at me like that!" He shouted and brought her hands above her head. "No! Let me go!" Sakura screamed.
"I'm gonna show you how much I love you." The man said before unbuttoning her blazer. "Th-Then you'll u-u-understand me, Shizuku-chan..." he said reaching for her dress shirt. Just before he could he heard rapid footsteps and turned around.
"I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU TO CONTACT ME FIRST!" Kyoro shouted before grabbing the man's collar and slamming him into the ground behind Sakura. Kyoro helped you Sakura before pointing behind him towards the entrance of the alley. She ran to it and out of sight. The man rolled into the wall before getting up and glaring at Kyoro. "Who the hell— you... you were with her..." he said in shock before growling and charging at Kyoro. "I'll kill you!" Kyoro charged as well before faking a punch, making the man flinch, before tripping the man. He fell face first before trying to get up. Kyoro's eyes glee as the man stood up. Kyoro reeled back his right hand and sent a right hook to the mans chin, his head hitting a pipe beside him and earning a satisfying crunch. Kyoro watched as the man recovered and touched his bloody mouth. He screamed and charged at Kyoro again but Kyoro dodges the man's punch and shoulder tossed him out of the alley.
Kyoro walked out and saw a cop car arrive on the scene, Ichinose appearing from around the corner with Sakura. Two officers grabbed the man and lifted him up. "Come along quietly!" They shouted as the man spit out two teeth. "L-Let me go! Y-You have no right to interfere! We're connected by destiny! I-I'm Shizuku's fan! Shizuku-chan knows that, too! We write each other letters every day! We—" "Stop this!" Sakura yelled. "Sh-Shizuku-chan?" The man questioned.
"I do not consider you a fan of mine. Never come near me again!" Sakura said. The man gasped before mumbling. "No way... You liar... Ugly... This ugly bitch tricked me!" He said lowly. "Come on! Say something, ugly!" He yelled. Kyoro glared and tried to walk forward but Sakura held him back by grabbing his hoodie. Kyoro kept trying to walk as the man kept screaming insults but Sakura wrapped her arms around his waist, Ichinose walking to him and holding him back as well. "That's enough." Ichinose said. "Damn it... damn it... Damn it..." the man said crying.
•
"I'm sure Ichinose will handle the rest." Kyoro said with a sigh before looking at Sakura. "I'm glad we exchanged contact information." He said sitting down against the alley wall. He took out his phone and showed he had tracked her location. "Technology these days..." he said with a chuckle.
"I'm sorry." Sakura began. "I'm such a failure. I really couldn't do anything by myself." She added. "Being an idol sure is hard, huh?" Kyoro commented. "But maybe this is for the best... Keeping up the lie was really hard." Sakura said taking off her glasses. "I'm sorry for not telling you." She said as the two made eye contact, both with tints of pink on their cheeks. "There's nothing to apologize for. I'm sorry I couldn't get here sooner. If anything's ever weighing on your mind in the future, feel free to come to me for advice." Kyoro said standing up, and offering his hand. "Thanks." Sakura said as she took his hand and he helped her up. Sakura stared into Kyoro's eyes as he rubbed his bruised knuckles. Kyoro looked up and saw her gaze was fixed on him.
"Keikēko-kun... You never look at me that way." Sakura stated. "That way?" Kyoro asked with an eyebrow raised. "Oh, nothing." Sakura answered with a closed-eye smile.
'God, my knuckles hurt... I'm gonna need more bandages...' Kyoro thought with a huff, but soon gave her a smile as well.
•
"What is it?" Suzune asked the currently smoking Chabashira-sensei. "Why did you call me out here?"
"I'll get straight to the point. If you're interested in reaching Class A, let me give you one piece of advice. Try to understand as much about Keikēko as you can now, while you can. If you don't, you might be too late." Chabashira-sensei stated. "What does that mean?" Suzune asked. "Why do you think Keikēko is helping you people? Why, despite his excellence, does he refuse to reveal what he can fully do?" Chabashira-sensei asked. "I don't know." Suzune answered. "Class D is, in this school's words, a place for people with defective aspects. This is just my own opinion, but the most defective one, out of everyone in Class D, is Keikēko." Chabashira-sensei said looking back at Suzune.
•
Meanwhile, Kyoro was walking the halls of the school with bandages over his hands, and now in his school uniform, hoodie on of course. He looked ahead of him and saw Manabu and Tcahibana. The three stopped as Kyoro smirked.
"The students of Class C who lied about their testimony have been expelled." Manabu stated. "Nice... nice..." Kyoro said placing his hands in his pockets. "Did you plan to avoid proving that Sakura was not a lair?" Manabu asked. "Well done. Perfect evasion." Manabu added. "Couldn't have done it without my... partner." Kyoro said, emphasis on partner, taken however you like. "I didn't really do that much but act." Kyoro said with a chuckle and a uncomfortable smile.
"Tachibana. There's an open secretary position, isn't there?" Manabu asked. "Yes." She answered. "Keikēko. You can have that position, if you like." Manabu offered. Kyoro's eyes widen before he brought back a calmer face. "President! Are you serious?" Tachibana asked in shock. "You object?" Manabu asked looking down at her. "No... If that's what you want, I won't object." She answered.
"Keikēko, join the student council." Manabu said bluntly. "I-I think I'm good. That's too much work and attention. I only acted out of place during the case because it was fun." Kyoro admit with a shrug, remembering when he tickled Suzune. 'Shit. I'm dead.'
"Acceptable, for now." Manabu replied. 'For now?' Kyoro thought in confusion. "Keikēko, do not disappoint me." Manabu said before the two walked passed him. "Wouldn't dream of it Senpai..." Kyoro said with sarcasm. Kyoro looked forward and saw Suzune. 'Oh shit.' Kyoro thought taking a step back.
~•~
Kyoro let out a sigh of relief as he and Suzune reached a crosswalk, the two holding umbrellas to block the rain.
"I'm happy that we won the case... are you? Kyoro asked nervously, trying to strike up a conversation. Silence was received. "You made a promise that you'd help me reach Class A." Suzune said. "Yeah, after you bribed me." Kyoro said giving her a playful glare. Kyoro went to walk seeing the light change but Suzune grabbed his arm. "Wait. I'm not finished yet. I want to know exactly what you're thinking." Suzune said. "Well, I'd like to live in peace—" Kyoro started. "You wouldn't help if you really didn't want to." Suzune repsonded. "I just wanted to help a friend." Kyoro said ending with a face of confusion. "That's a lie. You never cared about your friends." Suzune said, Kyoro's eyes beginning to water a bit.. "Just who are you?" Suzune asked. Kyoro stayed silent for a moment before Suzune saw a drop of water from under his umbrella. She looked up and saw he was crying.
"I'll help you get to Class A. But you're wrong..." Kyoro started. "Hm?" Suzune said seeing him turn around. "I do care about you all... I'm just a guy who wants redemption." He said as the tears streamed down his face, Suzune's face softening seeing his pained expression.
