Chapter two
A/n: Changed a little about this. Added some things to make some wording make more sense. Re reading isn't mandatory because it's still going to have the same end result either way.
When Virgil got home, he was much more upbeat than usual, but still cautious. The 'what if's' always came back no matter the situation.
The three most popular guys in school just talked to him, and gave him their numbers. They drove him home for gods sakes AND helped him with his nose!
Anyone would be suspicious.
Regardless of his thoughts, he still wore a shy smile on his face as he walked to his door, reaccounting the events.
Once he got to his house, he took out his key and opened the door, waving goodbye to his friends as they drove off. No cars were in the driveway, and he assumed that the house would be empty, so why knock?
When he opened the door, though, he was greeted by his brother, Remy, -who he totally forgot existed for a second there- who looked panicked, holding his phone, on a conversation with someone, his starbucks abandoned on the table instead of his hands. This must be serious.
"Virgil! Oh my god!" He exclaimed as he noticed him, "mom he's home!! Call you back byyye!!!" He hung up, "I cannot believe you're home this late, do you know how worried I was?! Jesus, text me next time, something could've happened to you! Did something happen?!?" His normally cool and collected brother exclaimed.
Virgil suddenly remembered, 'oh yeah, the reasons I got friends in the first place, I was being attacked. Crap I have to tell him don't I?"
It was at that moment Remy noticed the bandages around his nose.
"Ouch, that looks rough-what happened?" He asked suspiciously.
Virgil sighed, 'yep' he thought. He knew there was no lying to Remy. He could literally get a cactus to talk to him if he wanted to. He simply sighed and told him what had happened.
"Virgil, are these the same guys who've been bothering you?" He asked again.
Virgil nodded, signing to him that it hadn't been that bad.
"Virgil this isn't okay! They physically hurt you, it's getting out of hand! Please, Virgil, I can't let anything happen to you!"
Virgil looked down and signed, 'i'm sorry'
Remy's gaze softened, and he sighed, "i'm sorry Virgil, but..you're so frail and smol, it would be so easy for somebody to just snatch you up! Also, what's the matter? Still too hard to talk?" He frowned. Most of the time Virgil couldn't speak well, even to His own family, but he'd been a little better about it recently.
Virgil nodded.
"Also, V-v, don't think I didn't notice you were smiling when you walked in." He wriggled his eyebrows, trying to change the subject to a lighter one, "Did you see a hot guy?" He asked jokingly.
Virgil absentmindedly nodded.
Remy smirked and Virgil's eyes widened, realizing what he had agreed to. He blushed and squeaked.
Remy chuckled at Virgil's flustered demeanor.
"I'm just messing with you. But who is he? Spill sis!" Remy exclaimed, sipping his coffee.
'His name is Roman Prince' Virgil signed, after some thought, going on to tell him about how after Remus and Janus broke his nose, Roman Logan and Patton helped him out.
Remy spat his coffee out as Virgil continued to gush, "Woah babe, you got the hots for Roman Prince?! And you somehow managed to make friends with Logan and Patton? Babe, they're the ones who set me up with Emile last year! Ah, senior year..." Remy smirked, remembering the lit parties, trying out for the dance team, and sending shit pics to the bro's. Good times.
Virgil blushed and covered his face.
"Babe chill out." Remy laughed.
'He gave me his number and called me hot in a heather's reference' Virgil signed.
Remy lowered his voice and looked Virgil in the eyes, glasses falling slightly, "keep him."
Virgil chuckled, rolling his eyes.
"I gotta admit-I'm impressed. I thought he'd play hard to get with people. Oh! i'm actually going out tonight with Emile, speaking of that, so I've gotta go" Remy smiled, thanking Virgil for the reminder, leaving the house before saying, "don't get hurt though, okay? I mean with the whole crush thing."
Virgil sighed, nodding and smiling.
He went to his room upstairs after locking the front door behind Remy.
Suddenly, he felt lonely again. Remy was in his second year of college and had his own life ahead of him-and a boyfriend! He couldn't be home all the time and he understood.
But his parents were never home either so it got lonely.
His dad, Clinton had a well paying job, and traveled a lot because of it. He stayed in fancy hotels and rode first class airplanes every week. He was an open homophobe, and was unkind to anybody who wasn't normal by his standards.
He was fond of his sons, of course. Though wasn't sure how his father would react to knowing they were gay? Touchy subject, for sure.
He knew that Remy wanted to be open about his relationship with Emile, loud and proud about it. But Emile didn't want Remy's dad to forbid them from dating or something-oh well, lucky that their dad was never home anyways.
His mother, Alessandra wasn't bad at all though. She was home way more than his father, and took the time to actually be around her kids, make sure there was always food, make sure they always had what they needed, and she would call them often to check up on them.
Remy had actually came out to her before he was even dating Emile, and she accepted them whole heartedly, and after meeting Emile she was one hundred percent, all in for their relationship, 'A very sweet young man' Virgil remembers her saying.
She learned a lot about the LGBTQ community after that and did a bunch of research. She decided that it was silly for people to argue about this kind of thing. People should be allowed to love who they love and identify as they want.
If you identified as a toaster, sure a little strange, but she knew everyone would be happier if people just shut their mouths and respected people.
She positively encouraged her sons to be who they are, and express themselves how they pleased. Whenever Clinton brought up a facebook post and muttered, 'them damn gays again..' she took the opportunity to tell him that love is love, weather you like it or not.
When Remy came out to his mother she was of course very accepting and encouraged him, and he couldn't have been more thankful.
Remy often joked about how his father thought he was in the 1800s and 'the gays must be burnt at the stake.'
Alessandra kept on telling him to calm down, 'you do what you want, let them have what they want."
Alessandra didn't particularly need to work, but her husband was lazy and arrogant, so she suspected he'd get fired from his company soon enough, as he was no true asset to it.
She got a well, stable job and worked night shifts and extra hours every once and a while. She liked to have extra money for her children, either for savings or just a better allowance.
She didn't work too often like that though, only under certain circumstances.
She, unlike Clinton, was a real help to her company. She had been saving two jars ever since Remy was born.
She called them "college jars" and every week when she got paid, she put some money in the jar. She'd been doing it for twenty years, and as soon as the kids went off to college, she would give them their respective jars.
And so, both Remy and Virgil each had a large sum saved up for college, and by the time Remy went off to college, and Alessandra didn't really bother with the jars anymore, and just made them each a bank account. She managed Virgil's and helped Remy with his because-well-he's Remy.
She wasn't going to manage Remy's anymore soon though, since he convinced her that he was an independent twenty year old 'man.'
She knew he'd come crawling back to him though. Crying about how adulting is hard and stuff.
Virgil was pulled out of his thoughts as he got onto his bed and opened his phone.
He had a few caring texts from his mother that made him smile. He replied to her so she knew he wasn't, y'know/dead.
He opened a different messaging app and clicked onto the group chat that Roman had made, just in the middle of an argument.
Roman: It's not fair!
Logan: Roman stop it!
Patton: guys settle down!
Virgil scrolled up and figured out this was about their names. They all wanted nicknames but Logan wouldn't let them have any, claiming they were childish.
Virgil smirked and changed his name.
Virgil has changed his name to Killjoy
Logan: I give up.
Roman: Ha.
Patton: *giggles*
Virgil has changed Roman's name to Princey
Virgil has changed Patton's name to Pop star🤩

Princey: Why do you like a girl color?
Virgil frowned, reading the text over and over again. What should he say? His thoughts were spiraling out of control-What if he thought he was weird now? He bit his frowning lip, and blinked away the tears. 'He hates me he hates me he hates me he hates me he hates me he hates me he hates me' Virgil thought, panicking.
Princey: OW! WTF PATTON?!?!?

Kiddo💙: Also, did my brother Remy stop by your house yet to take Emile on a hot date? 😏😏😏😏😏😏😏
Virgil's phone blew up with texts of, 'REMY IS YOUR BROTHER?!?'

Virgil got a text from Roman in their dms.
Roman: DISTRACT HIM, QUICK!
Virgil: with what?!
Roman: I DON't KNOW- SOMETHING CUTE
Virgil went back to the group chat, being filled with anxiety of being pressured by Roman to distract Patton.
Virgil: uhhhHHH LOOK! PUPPIES!

Virgil smiled. Maybe this whole thing wouldn't be so bad after all.
