Chapter 30

TRIGGER WARNINGS:
•Trauma
Patton was nervous as he sat in the waiting room, chewing his lip and holding his mother's hand. He was having his first vaginal ultrasound. He didn't feel comfortable showing anybody his...parts.
When his name was called, he squeezed his mother's hand. She just smiled, and waved him off. Weirdly enough, he would have been more comfortable if his father had been there with him.
He left his mom in the waiting room, and wandered inside the room, not really knowing exactly what to do. He gulped as he was asked to lay on top of the ultrasound table. There were two kind women staring back at him, directing him to the table and explaining the procedure.
"So, is the father showing up? Do we need to delay?" One of the nurse's asked as they prepared for the procedure, putting on gloves.
He tensed up. "I-no..I didn't really know him-i-it was rape..—sorry that was a huge bomb to drop—he isn't in the picture. Well..neither of them are...I don't know who the father is. They both..you know..."
"Oh, hon, that's horrible" the doctor whispered. She felt really bad for bringing the subject up. The other doctor gave a her a look that could have been interpreted as "let me do the talking."
The entire ultrasound procedure was very scary to Patton. As soon as they put the wand inside of him he started bawling his eyes out. It reminded him of..the rape.
"Awe, hon, it's alright, it's okay" the nurse comforted gently, nodding for the other nurse to go hold his hand, which she did, Patton squeezing it tightly,
"Imagine what'll happen when the baby actually comes" the nurse chuckled, trying to lighten the mood.
"Y-yeah, it'll be like an uno reverse rape. Out instead of in" Patton joked.
The nurse's didn't know what to say in response to that, so they didn't say anything.
When the procedure was over, Patton immediately stood up and put his pants back on.
"Okay, okay...yes, it seems that you have nothing wrong with your womb, your lining is good too. You should be expecting to have a healthy baby at this point in the pregnancy. Anywhere between week 8-10 is when you'll be able to hear a heartbeat and get an image of the baby's development. You may be able to get a heartbeat early in week seven, however, it isn't likely." She explained.
"Thank you!" Patton smiled shakily.
————————————————————
Virgil was hanging out with Logan and Roman, as per usual, and they were waiting for Patton to come back. They were kinda worried that something would go wrong with it. Patton had jumped out of a window and ran practically two neighborhoods away, falling down in the process a few times.
They were all just chilling, hanging out and scrolling through random things on their phones. Logan was looking through selective mutism articles, trying to find better ways to help Virgil. Roman was taking selfies for instagram, and Virgil was scrolling though tumblr.
When Patton walked through the door, he looked especially happy, so they could only assume it went well.
"Did you get a picture?!" Roman asked excitedly.
"It's too early for that!" Patton chuckled, "in a few weeks, hopefully!"
Patton smiled, knowing he was only at his fourth week brought fear, yet comfort, knowing he had a long time to prepare. He wouldn't start showing until at least week twelve, pretty much everyone at school knows about the rape because of some of Patton's more gossipy friends, so he could still show his face at school without people thinking he was a slut.
And if they did, he had himself a Roman to help.
They continued to converse, Virgil trying his absolute best to say something other than frustrated groans and gurgles. He managed to get a raspy croak out, too, so they were proud of him for trying.
Logan had told them a bunch about the disorder, so they knew they had to make sure that he felt comfortable and safe. They all wondered why he was mute, though.
Remy had told them that he had always been like this. He didn't say his first word until he was five, and even then, was really shy, even around his own family. He had trouble asking for things for fear of being judged or annoying.
Something made him develop a fear of being hated, and being annoying. He had associated speaking with fear from a very young age.
When Virgil was five years old, still not saying his first words, that was when he was actually going to be diagnosed with a mute disorder, they thought he had something physically rather than mentally wrong.
However, he could make noises, and could even scream and cry, so his voice was technically fine, so the doctors held on to hope for first words, which eventually did come.
