Chapter 2

A blonde girl sitting on the floor, in front of a dark haired male with bandages.

"Hey Zack. Wake up." The blonde pleaded, staring at him. She had the feeling he was supposed to wake up. Why wasn't he?

"Zack! Open your eyes!" No response. She placed a hand on his bleeding stomach, then on his pulse. No response.

~

"ZACK?!" A blonde girl shouted, hopping up from her sleep. She was laying on an unfamiliar couch in an unfamiliar apartment.

"Huh?! Where am I? This isn't my house..." The girl mutters, worried. She sat up, then went into a standing position.

She heard a doorknob being turned and faced the front door, since that's where the sound was coming from.

The blonde jumped, quickly and nervously looking at whoever would be coming through the door.

The person that entered was a tall male with black hair and bi-colored eyes.

"Oh... You're up." The male said, noticing the blonde that was standing with a worried expression.

"It's you." She said. Then she started to realize the situation she was in. She was knocked out, this man was older than her and at least 18, and this seemed to be his home.

It clicked.

"Did you do something to me?" She asked, nervously backing away a bit.

"Do something?" It took him a moment until it clicked for him too. "Eh?! What the hell! No! It's not like that!" The man said, completely embarrassed that she would think of him as 'that' kind of person.

"Then why was I knocked out...? And why am I here?" Skye continued to ask questions until Jax yelled at her.

"Shut up will you?!" Jax then sighed and quieted down. "At least let me explain." Skye went quiet, but nodded for him to go ahead and explain.

Jax had explained about how the one thug had tried to grab her so he stepped in and knocked the thug out. He then explained that she passed out and he didn't know where the girl lived so he just decided to take her back to his place until she woke up and could leave. He had left to get painkillers and bandages just incase the girl was in pain. He showed her the bag of the medical supplies and that's how they both ended up where they are now.

"I see... So you didn't do anything." Skye says.

"No! And I'm a respectable male adult, I wouldn't think of fucking a little kid!" Jax shouts.

"Alright I get it, no need to yell." Skye said, rubbing her temples, obviously showing she had a headache.

"Here, take one of these." He said, placing the painkiller in her hand and getting a glass of water.

"Thanks..." Skye mumbles and takes the small pill. "What's your name anyway?" She asked after the pill had entered her system.

"Jax. You?" The male said, crossing his arms.

"My name is Skye." The blonde said before standing up and bowing to him. "Also you said you were an adult... How old are you?"

"Why? What are you? A cop?" Jax asked with a chuckle.

"No but my dad is. And I'm just curious." Skye said in all seriousness.

Jax rolled his eyes. "I was trying to joke around. Anyways I'm 20."

"So my estimate was right." Skye says. "Anyways I'm 16."

"16? Really? You look like you're still a kid." Jax says and chuckles again and it was Skye's turn to roll her eyes.

After a few moments of talking they both mentally decided it was time for their meeting of the day to end.

"Thank you for your hospitality, I should really get going." Skye says.

"Do you even know your way out of the back alleys?" Jax asked.

"Well- I- Umm..." Jax let out an amused chuckle, which Skye just responded with a look of embarrassment.

"Come on, I'll guide you." Jax says and starts heading towards the door. Skye just nodded and followed him. 'Might as well trust him on this, it's better than getting attacked by another thug.' She thought.

~

"Once again, thank you." Skye tells him once they are out of the alleys.

"Not a problem. I'd probably be bored if I hadn't had a run in with you today." He says and chuckles.

"Heh... I guess so..." Skye mutters. "Anyways, I'll take my leave. See you around?" She said in more of a questioning tone.

"Guess so. See you." Jax says, heading back in through the alleys.

Skye smiled a bit and started heading off towards her home. This was one encounter she wouldn't be forgetting.

~

"Where the hell were you?!" A tall blonde woman exclaimed worriedly to her child.

"I was hanging around with a friend and loss track of time. Sorry." Skye says, focusing more on her homework than her mother at the moment. She couldn't say that she was in a grown man's apartment and almost attacked by a thug, both men would most likely be arrested for "harassing a minor," as Skye would lightly put it. "And I got what you asked, don't worry."

The mother sighed, a bit irritated. "Yeah... Just don't stay out too late, who knows what kind of people are out there."

The door slammed open then shut. "Another damn serial murder." A blonde haired male mutters entering his house. He didn't say anything to his family he just walked straight into his room.

"He never acknowledges us anymore." The woman huffed. "I should really speak with him." Skye's mother then walked off to speak with her husband.

"Do you think mom and dad will get a divorce?" Skye's younger sister had asked her. The older blonde glanced at the younger, that same thought had been in her head before, but her parents seemed happy so she threw that thought away.

"I don't know... They seem happy... You really should worry about yourself more than mother and father's marriage." Skye says, taking a drink of water right after.

"You said you were with a friend today. Was it your boyfriend or something?" That question had caught Skye off guard she started to choke on the water.

"No! He's just a friend! I don't need a boyfriend, you know this!" The older quickly exclaimed. Sure Jax was attractive in some ways but he was not a boyfriend, she doesn't even know if she could call him a friend.

The younger girl snickered. "Mhm whatever." She says before leaving the room.

"Brat..." Skye muttered, knowing her sister was out of the room. "Whatever. Time to get this work done."

~

The next morning was the same routine. Get up, get dressed, eat breakfast, and head to the station. Except once she got to the station it was a little different.

People seemed down and worried. "Another serial murder happened." People were saying and, "When will they catch him? I'm starting to get scared."

'My Dad said something about a serial murder yesterday didn't he?' Skye thought.

"Oh you here again?" Skye heard a familiar deep voice say. She quickly turned around to see a familiar man with bi-colored eyes.

"Oh Jax. Yeah I'm here again, I have school." She says.

"Ah, I see. So everything go okay after you left the back alleys?" He asked.

"Yeah. Got yelled at for being late, but other than that everything was fine." She said and smiled a little.

'That smile... seems too familiar. But from where?' Jax thought, but snapped back into reality when he heard the train's doors open.

"Well let's go." Skye says and quickly walks through the crowd of people, trying to get a seat.

~

"So why did you need to get on the train today?" Skye asked him, trying to start a conversation.

Jax didn't answer, he seemed to be focused on something else.

Skye lightly tugged on his sleeve. "Jax?" She says. "Are you okay?"

"Huh? Yeah. I'm okay... Just listening to what people are saying. There's a serial killer on the loose?" Jax mutters.

"I guess... I heard my dad talking about it..." Skye mumbles.

"Ugh... I hate bloodshed... Well mostly anything that has to do with conflict." Jax mutters.

"But didn't you hit that man on the head yesterday with the lid of a garbage can?" Skye says.

"Would you rather him have his way with you?" Jax says.

Skye shuddered a bit from imagining it. "F-Fair point... forget I said anything." She says.

Jax sighed, knowing she was thinking and remembering awful things and ruffled her hair. "Don't think about it. It's over with."

Skye looked at him, a bit surprised by the contact. "Y-Yeah you're right... Thank you for helping..." She says.

They stayed quiet for a good moment until they reached her stop. "Well time to go..." She says, standing.

"See you, shorty." Jax says and smirks. Skye glared at him and childishly stuck out her tongue before leaving the train, but as soon as she left she smiled softly, she seemed to like having conversations with him even though they've only had three.

Even if it was only three she felt she has known him for a while, she felt that she was very familiar with him, but she only met him a day ago.

~

It's been a few weeks since Skye had met Jax and she's seen a few more times, mostly on the train, sometimes at the convenience store, but their meetings have started becoming less and less.

But in those few weeks murders have gotten worse, luckily they weren't near where she lived.

"Finally time to go home..." Skye whispers, leaving her stop and heading to her home, only to see her sister with her friend not heading to her house. Skye then ran up to her sister.

"Hey, Eliza!" Skye said. "Where are you going?"

"Mom and dad seem to fighting today, I thought it was better not to get involved..." Eliza says, glancing away from the older blonde. "You should go to your friend's house, unless you want to come with us."

"No... You guys go, I'll head to my friend's." Skye says. "Have fun and stay safe." Skye thought of places to go. Her red head friend, Logan, lived too far away so she couldn't go there, and if she went to her one adult friend's house she could get in big trouble because both her and her fiancée work for her father.

Skye thought for a few more moments until one particular male came into mind, and without a second thought she started to head towards her destination.

~

Skye was now at the front of a certain apartment. She knocked on the front door. She heard someone groan from the inside and shuffle their way to the door. They then opened it.

"What do you want old man- oh, it's you." Skye looked at the male, he looked exhausted, his hair all messed up, his one bandaged hand rubbing one of his eyes. To her it was kind of cute. 'Ah! Don't think like that!' A small blush appeared on her face.

"H-Hey Jax. Is this a bad time? You look exhausted." The blonde said. The dark haired male shook his head before yawning.

"Nah. I just took a nap, come on in." He says, stepping aside to let her in. The girl had walked in the room and noticed it was a bit messier than when she came here before. "Is there something wrong? Some thug didn't try to attack you again did they?"

"Oh no, it was nothing like that... it's just... My parents were fighting today and I didn't want to get involved so I thought it'd be better to go to a friend's place..." She realized she just called him a friend. "I-If you want me to leave I will- Sorry to disturb you."

"Nah, it's fine." Jax chuckled a bit. "You consider a grown man like me your friend eh?"

"If you don't want me to call you that I won't." She says.

"It's fine, I don't mind it. But why here of all places? Don't you have other friends in a safer environment?" He asked.

"I-I do it's just they either live to far away or they work for my dad..." She says. "And this is also somewhat comforting." She muttered the last part, but Jax heard it.

"Comforting?" He asked her.

A dark shade of red rose to Skye's face. "I-I don't know how else to put it! I-It just feels like it's nice to be here! I-I like being here." She says. It made Jax laugh at how embarrassed she got from him saying one simple word.

"I don't mind you staying here for a bit. I guess I can say it's nice to have you around. After all you don't seem to bother me. Don't know why you just do." He chuckled.

She smiled a little. "I'll take that as a good thing." Another thought then crossed her mind. Before Jax noticed it was her he mentioned an 'old man'. "Hey Jax... Who is this 'old man' you referred to?"

"Oh? It's not really important... but I'll tell you about him later." He says and shrugs.

"You sure?" Skye asked.

"Yeah... I hate liars after all." Jax said.

The two had continued talking for a while, the more they talked the more they felt like they knew each other before, and they couldn't shake that feeling off.

"Hey, Jax, I think I should head home." Skye says and stands up.

"Alright... I'll walk you out of the alleys." He says.

"You sure?" She asked.

"Yeah. I got nothin' better to do." Jax replied.

"Alright." She said and smiled a little. "Let's go then."

That smile. Her dead eyes. Why? Why did that seem so familiar to him? Just why?

~

"Well we're here. See you around." Jax says.

"Yeah. Hopefully you won't mind me stopping by a bit more." She chuckled a bit.

"Nope, not at all." He smiled.

"Okay, well bye!" She says and walks off, but Jax stopped her before she got too far.

"Hey, wait." He says, there was a question he wanted to ask for hours and he was finally going to ask it.

"Do I..." 'know you from somewhere? C'mon just ask her! Ask her!' He then sighed. "Never mind."

"You sure?" Skye asked.

"Yeah. Get on home. Sorry for stopping you." He said, running him fingers through his hair.

"Oh... okay...?" She said, a bit uncertain. She then continued her walk home.

'I'm a damn coward. All I was going to do was ask a question and I couldn't even do that.' He sighed and started walking back to his apartment. 'Next time I'll ask her. Next time for sure.'
