Heart Problems

Legend sat at a table outside with his light lunch and a bottle of water. A woman, a native Spanish woman, smiled from afar. He smiled. She made her way to his table and sat. "Do you mind?"

Legend just smiled. "No, please. I'm Legend."

"Rosa." She had kind eyes. "You are American, Si?" Moses nodded and looked at her.

She was short and chucky and much older. A grandmother perhaps. The lines on her face were filled with wisdom. Legend liked her right away. "You looked troubled. Problems with your heart?" Her accent was thick but pretty.

Legend had no idea how she knew. This was a complete stranger. "How did you know?"

Rosa smiled a sad smile. "I have been there. Do you want advice from an old woman?"
Legend nodded. "I can't have too much advice. Sure."

"I like you, Legend. So, love is a tricky prick." Rose saw the shock on Legend's face. She chuckled. "So, my advice. Listen to your heart. It's where your soul resides. Si?"

"But what if... It's something that you never experienced? What if what you feel isn't ...what you expected?" Legend needed to speak to someone.

Rose smiled. "Love, true love...it's never what we expect! We fall in love with the most unexpected. Tell me?"

Legend sighed and shrugged. He spilled his guts to a stranger in the middle of a restaurant in Spain on a random Wednesday, almost in one breath. He felt better too.

Rosa was silent through the story and looked out to the road. It was a quiet day in the center. "So, the problem is that you are in love with a man?"

"Yes! No! Not in love!" Legend stared at the woman, who smiled. "I am not in love with Moses. I just miss him and he is a man."

Rosa scaffed. "Meirda!" Legend jumped and Rose covered her mouth. "It means bullshit!" Rosa blushed. "Pardon, man or woman makes no difference. It's all the same, My sweet Legend. All the same. Love is love regardless of who. Your heart knows the right person for you. It does. It's why we listen to our heart. It knows, does it not?" She glared at him.

Legend nodded without thinking. She was right. "But how do I know that I love him?"

Rosa smiled. "Look in the mirror, Sweet Legend. Your eyes say everything when you talk about him. Look in the mirror and say his name. You'll know. I must go. Good luck to you." She stood and walked down the street and around a corner. She was gone.

Legend paid the bill and walked through the streets. A storefront caught his eye. He saw his reflection. His eyes. He thought about Moses.

"Moses Hardy." He whispered. He smiled on accident and he saw his eyes light up. Just to compare,

"Amy Newman." He didn't feel anything and more importantly, he saw nothing in his eyes. "Valarie." Nothing was there. "Sarah, Katey, Denise, Stacey?" Nothing.

"Moses Hardy." Rosa was right. He saw it.

Legend smiled. He knew more about the women he dated although he did meet Moses's parents. He could see Moses just smiling and talking. He loved that deep rich voice.

He loved the music, his skin, his clear blue eyes, his smile, the sound of his laugh, the way his kisses felt on his lips. He loved that man. Legend gasped. He was in love with a man.

The way he walked with purpose, his no nonsense approach to everything, his eyes darkened when he was angry, he wasn't afraid of a challenge, he worked and never whined.

Legend stopped walking. "I love him! I am in love with a man!" He almost shouted and people looked. He laughed like a crazy man on a street in Spain.

Legend loved Moses. He was in love with Moses Hardy. He loved him. He missed him. What was he supposed to do? This was his life, traveling, being alone. He felt alone for the first time. He was lonely.

Legend was always alone but he was happy with his life as it was before and now...he hated it. He wanted to call Moses and share things with him. He was missing his man.

His phone rang and jolted him from his thoughts. "Yes, boss lady?"

"Well, you sound more like yourself. How is Spain?"

"Good. Hot. I am heading out in a few hours." Legend sighed.

"Okay. See you when you get back. Are you doing better?" Amy was worried. "I worry about you."

"Amy, I know. Sorry to scare you. I just needed to figure things out. Can we talk when I get there? Privately?" Legend sighed.

He was telling her how unprofessional he was and that he was gay. He was in love with a man, even if that man didn't share his feelings and he was going to tell Moses too. He was changing things. His life was going to change, good or bad.

"I can't wait, Legend. Safe travels." Amy was gone. She was relieved that he didn't sound sad.
