Promises

Scott walked into the Kirk household, still shaking from what he was told earlier. The surgery will be sometime next week and he is extremely nervous. How do tell your family that you have cancer? What do you tell your fans? They're already expecting the next book in the series Scott is writing. It's also the last book and he just finished it not too long ago and is ready to be published. Now he's on his other book, but he has no idea how to write it if he has to have chemotherapy.

Also, his family. Alex is his whole world. How can he tell the man he has loved since the end of eighth grade that he could be dying? Also, how can he tell Sara and Matt? Sara is so sweet and has a relationship with Scott that is similar to Mitch and Avi's. She can't handle losing another person she lives dearly. Matt just needs his dad. Scott refused to let his son live without his father.

"Guys?" Scott called out, walking into the living room. Alex and Mitch are already in there and Sara and Matt came in, smiling at their dad. "I went to the doctor's for the tumor biopsy."

"You did?" Alex asked, sighing in relief when Scott nodded. "Did everything go okay?"

Scott shook his head and bit his lip as he heard Sara gasp and begin to cry. Matt shook his head and put his head on Alex's shoulder, closing his eyes. Alex shook his head, covering his mouth with his hand to silence the tears. Mitch nodded as tears ran down his face, knowing the reason why Scott had the tumor.

Scott has a genetic disorder called Neurofibromatosis. The disorder causes tumors to grow on the nerves. It also causes learning disorders which he did not get, but it is the reason why he had scoliosis. The disorder also affected height, making one either very short or very tall. The tumors also rarely ever turned into cancer. This is one of those rare cases.

Nobody knew who he got the disorder from. All he knows is that it could cause tumors and it's the reason why he is so dang tall. He sighed deeply as he took Alex's free hand with his own.

"Babe, I'll be fine," Scott promised, kissing Alex's forehead. His husband began to sob silently, nodding at the words. "I'll be fine. The cancer will gone after the surgery. Even if the cancer doesn't go away, I'll fight as hard I can. I promise."

"He c-ca-an do it," Mitch agreed, rubbing Sara's back. She nodded as another wave of tears rolled down her face. "H-he-e'll m-ma-ake it."

Lilliana smiled when Kirstin came to pick her up. As she hopped into the car, the smile disappeared. The beautiful smile her mom has is gone.

"Mom?" She asked in a nervous tone. Kirstin nodded, still not looking at her daughter. "What's the matter?"

"I did something really, really bad," she answered, her knuckles turning white from the tight grip of the tire. "It's really, really bad."

"What is it?" Lilliana questioned, tilting her head. Kirstin then drove out the middle school parking lot, not answering the question. "Mom, tell me or I'll tell Mama!"

Kirstin then stopped at a spotlight. She then turned to her daughter, her hazel eyes full of tears. She then took a deep breath, afraid of her daughter's reaction.

"Promise me that you won't tell Mama?" Kirstin asked, not liking how her daughter tensed up. She then looked down her lap and looked up at the stop light. "I did something bad."

"Just tell me," Lilliana commanded, just wanting her mom to tell the truth. She thought her mom might have lost her ring or that she forgot to take out dinner. Oh, how wrong is she. What she heard broke her heart.

"I kissed a woman and she wasn't your mother. I'm so sorry, Lilli."

Travis watched McKenna as she played with her trucks quietly, resting her chin on her hand. He then walked up to her, taking a truck himself. McKenna looked up, a somber expression sketched onto her face.

"Papa?" McKenna asked, watching as Travis nodded absentmindedly. "When can I see Daddy again?"

"I...I don't know," Travis answered honestly, thinking of his husband. He sighed heavily, wanting everything to be okay. "I promise that everything will be okay though."

"Don't make promises you can't keep," McKenna scolded quietly, shaking her head. She then took her big truck, going into her room. "You promised that you will never leave Daddy, but you did."

She then slammed her door, leaving Travis by himself. He wanted to yell at her for talking like that, but Mitch said that they should never punish McKenna for admitting the truth. They didn't want her to feel like she couldn't tell the truth. Travis sighed to himself and put his face onto his hands, realizing one thing:

McKenna told the truth and there is no way he can defend himself.

The Olusola siblings went inside their childhood home, happy to be together. Tris smiled at the siblings and acted like she and Kirstin did not kiss a while back.

"He's asleep," Tris told them quietly, looking at Kirstin. She winked quickly and Kirstin rolled her eyes, annoyed by the caretakers actions. "His nap time is almost over so you could see him him when he's up."

The three of them nodded as they sat down in the spots they claimed as children. Scott sighed, getting Kirstin and Mitch's attentions. He cleared his throat to fight off the cough he knows that is about to come.

"Kirst?" He began, taking Kirstin's hand. She nodded, afraid to hear what he had to say. "I was told today that I have cancer."

"What?" She asked quietly, shaking her head. Scott nodded sadly, not wanting it to be true. "Is it because of your disorder?"

"Yep," Scott answered, shaking his head. "Guys, what happened? We used to be so happy."

"We all l-lo-os-st Papa," Mitch answered, bitting his lip. He forgot the last time he actually talked to his siblings. "We need to s-st-ick-k to-to-ge-ge-ther."

"We will," Kirstin spoke up, taking Mitch's hand with her free one. "We have to."

Her brothers nodded, smiling when they saw Kevin. Kevin then became confused. The siblings all thought maybe that he was confused because they haven't really been together since Kirstin moved.

They are so wrong. The next words that came out of Kevin's mouth made their hearts break.

"Who are you three? I don't know either of you."

A/N: *hides in the Very Top Secret Maddie Cave* Sorry about that, lol. Please don't kill me. You need me for the next chapters and for Different! Just letting you all know that I too have Neurofibromatosis. It's a bit hard to explain, lol. I am also short because of it (5'0 tall!). Anyways, I hope you enjoyed the chapter and remember that  I love you all.:)
