General nudged me with his nose and I pulled myself up. The man was nowhere to be seen. How could I have lost him? He was right in front of me, I stabbed him in the shoulder for heaven’s sake! I must have only wounded him. How did he leave so quickly? First things first, I have to find out where we are.

Searching around in every direction, I noticed lengthy grass on both sides of my feet. On either side, the grass was fenced in by what looked to me like fancy white sticks. Much nicer than what we had used for our crops to keep animals out of the area. The ground beneath me was as tough as a rock, but smooth to the touch. I tapped the top a couple times with the tip of my foot. What was it?

A loud noise shook me to the core, pulling me out of my thoughts. General stomped his hooves and backed up. There was a large metal looking contraption on wheels. It wasn't horse powered, so that had my attention too. More magic?

A man wearing confusing clothes left the metal carriage and screamed at me, but I couldn't understand. His accent was unique to say the least, and he was making awkward gestures with his hands. I ignored his billowing and climbed onto General.

“For God's sake, stop shouting at me. Make yourself useful and inform me on where the nearest village is,” I spoke, making my voice sound powerful and confident to make sure he'd understand.

“Don't tell me what to do you crazy bitch, go back to whatever medieval festival you came from. And stay out of the middle of the road! Or else I'll run yous over!” He shouted then got back into the carriage. It took off down the “road,” as he called it.

“Right, or left,” I muttered around, looking down both directions. General bucked his head and turned to the right. “Okay, right it is.” I steered him to the right and we took off, riding down the outside of the road to avoid anymore obnoxious people like that one person from the metal carriage.

I'll admit, I was a little scared. The man could be anywhere, I don't know where I am, and my friends and family are dead. No one could help me now. I wanted to go home, to my mother and my father; and worst of all, I missed my brother. He was always so generous and kind to me. He taught me everything I know, and I could never thank him enough. His death was unfair and cruel, and I will avenge him.

Eventually, I stopped General on the side of the road. There was a little house, it looked like. Fancier than the standard hut. Sturdier too. I noticed what looked like our stables, but bigger. And red. I didn't know what it was, but saw crops and large field. It must be a farm, some fancy kind at best.

“You lost, miss? Because the Medieval roleplay group isn't meeting for a few months,” a female voice said behind me. I turned my head and saw a lady leaning against the fence.

“I am lost, but I do not know what medieval roleplay group you speak of.”

“You want to come in, miss? You look tired. And dirty. You can clean up at my place,” the lady offered.

“That is very kind of you miss. But I'm looking for someone and it's very important.”

“Aren't we all, did a man break your heart too?”

“What? No.. it's a bit different.”

“Well come on in miss, you can let your horse run in the fields and we'll get you cleaned up. What's your name, pretty lady?”

Pretty lady? This woman was very up front. “My name is Adira Malou Bohr. May I ask yours?”

The lady laughed, “Well I'm going to call you Addy because I'll never going to remember 'Adira.’ My name’s Becky Louis.”

I climbed down off General and lead him in as Becky opened the gate. I didn't know what this place was, or when, but it wasn't bad. She was nicer than the man on the road. Though I did plan to leave as soon as I could, I didn't want anyone else getting hurt or caught up in the crossfire.

There was something about Becky, I can’t describe it. But there's something about her that intrigues me. It’s almost like I can trust her.

Becky led me towards her stables and allowed me to hang General's saddle and harness. She opened another gate and motioned General in so he could roam freely in an enclosed area. Becky took me to her house and showed me a room with more complex and confusing things. There was a glass like box; attached with a metal pipe on the outside of the ceiling along with a lever in the middle of the wall.

“Do you know how to use this?” Becky asked.

“I don't even know what IT is.”

Becky laughed, “It's called a shower silly. Have you been living in the 15th century or something?”

“Actually.. you’re correct.”

“Really? You're kidding.”

“I'm not.. I’m being honest.”

“That's not even possible. Unless you're a time traveler. This is 2019! I'm having a hard time believing you.”

“You don't have to believe me if you don’t want to, but I swear on my own brother’s grave. This is NOT my timeline.”

“I mean, I guess it does make some kind of sense. Giving how you dress, your saddle, it's all so tacky. I'll help you work the shower, and you can borrow some of my clothes.”

I smiled, “Thank you, miss Becky.”

“Just Becky is fine,” She smiled back.
