Explanation

"Out of all the androids in that store, why me? Why not a different model?"

Signe tensed up as she looked away from me, a part of me wishing that I could reach out and console her somehow.

"Seán's been dead for years...he broke up with me and found someone new that supported his hobby of freeing androids from various places like stores and stuff. I told him that it was too dangerous, but....he never listened. He got shot down by a group of Anti-android protestors like an animal after he was tortured for days about the location of the group of androids that he had freed and given a place to hide." Signe spoke quietly, her tone laced with anger and remorse.

"Group of androids?" I repeated in confusion, my head tilted to the side slightly.

"I'll explain more once we get home." Signe stated gruffly, dragging me behind her out of the airport.

We climbed into a taxi and watched people pass by in a whirl of colors, my head whirling with thoughts as Signe's words replayed in my head over and over like a broken record.

"We're here."

I tore my gaze away from the window and exited the taxi, Signe paying the driver before we entered her home.

"There are seven androids that run the camp, they've been saving more androids ever since Jack died." Signe sighed as she closed the door, sitting at the table before resting her head in her hands.

"Who are they?" I prompted curiously, Signe clasping her hands together on top of the table.

"There's Jackaboy the former hero, JJ the silent actor, Schneep the German doctor, Anti the glitch, Robbie the zombie, Chase the trick shot master, and Marvin the Magnificent." Signe listed off.

"I...I don't understand." I admitted as I sat next to Signe, her gaze purposely avoiding mine as if it hurt to look me in the eyes.

"I know you're not the original Sean, but..." Signe trailed off with a long sigh, her body shaking slightly as she kept her gaze fixated on the table while tears rapidly welled up in her eyes.

"What are you talking about?" I interjected as I tried to process what was happening while she sat motionless in her chair with a defeated expression.

"I had a boyfriend...his name was Sean McLoughlin, and I never really got over him when we broke up. The McLoughlin family had made an android replica of Sean after he died and filled its head with memories of them before they sent it to Denmark for me since they didn't know about his new girlfriend." Signe choked out in a barely restrained sob, tears streaming down her face and ruining her make up as she turned her back towards me.

"So...my mind was never moved from a younger model to this one...and everything I thought I knew isn't true." I summarized slowly as I leaned against the table, my mind whirling with thoughts.

Signe nodded in response, her body trembling with silent sobs as she placed her head in her hands while I moved around the table and kneeled down in front of her on my knees so I could look at her.

"Go...please" Signe stammered softly through quivering lips, her hair drooping like a curtain in front of her face.

I was silent as I watched her lift her head up to look at me, her eyes blazing with a combination of fury and sadness that I had never seen any human show before while I used the table to help me stand back up.

"I'm letting you go damnit, I can't let you stay here! It hurts every time I look at your face because I know that you're not really Seán, you're just a doppelgänger." Signe blurted before a sob escaped her throat.

"B-but I'm going to die if I leave here!" I stammered fearfully, a red wall of glitching code appearing around me as I backed away towards the door.

"Here," Signe stood up and hastily scribbled something down on a post of note before handing it to me.

"This is the address for the group that you want to find. You find them, then you'll find your freedom."

I nodded in appreciation as I took the paper, casting one last glance at her before I ran out the door with sirens audible in the distance, the code wall breaking around me.

I was deviant now.

"LA? How am I supposed to get there?" I wondered aloud as I looked up at the sky, wishing I knew what to do.

Look for a place to stay temporarily in Brighton?

Start finding a way to get to LA?
