Awake

A/N: I'm changing the beginning plot for Jack around slightly so it's different and makes more sense

Darkness.

That was the first thing I saw as my optical units whirred back to life, allowing me to see again.

Talking.

I could hear a Danish man and woman converse as my audio processor came back online, soft ringing audible like background noise for a moment before it faded away.

Emotions.

I felt them for a brief moment before my Thirium pump restarted, sending Thirium, or "blue blood" as humans called it, through my body and erasing any thought of "feelings".

"I'm looking for an android, one that can do housework, cook, that kind of thing."

I opened my eyes when I heard two pairs of footsteps approach me, the voices sounding like the ones I had heard earlier.

The man with the bald head I recognized instantly as Brian Rogers, age thirty, occupation android salesman.

Upon further analyzation, I gleaned that the woman's name was Signe Hansen, age twenty-three, origin Denmark, sign Aries, hair color dark brown, eye color...

No matter how long I looked at her eyes, I couldn't determine the exact shade of brown they were as light sparkled inside of them.

"I've never seen an AX400 model that looks like a man." Signe remarked as she walked around me, studying me while I stood still like a statue.

"I can assure you, they're just as good, if not better, than the female AX models." Brian assured Signe.

I attempted to flash her a smile as she paused and looked me in the eyes, hoping it would pass as friendly.

"Does it have a name?" Signe questioned Brian, looking away from me to turn her attention to the salesman.

"Nope, I usually leave that up to the customer, even when they're used androids." Brian stated.

Signe glanced back at me with a thoughtful expression, her gaze betraying her uncertainty as she considered her options.

"Do you know why you were sold back to Cyberlife?" Signs questioned Brian.

"The people had him for years in a YK500 model before they requested that its memory was moved into a AX400. They seemed really upset when they brought him in too, like they didn't really want to give him up." Brian supplied.

Signe was silent as she soaked in the new information, the woman chewing on her lower lip thoughtfully before she spoke up.

"How much is it?" Signe asked Brian, her gaze fixated on me.

"Well, since it's a used android like I said, I'll lower the price to nine-hundred." Brian offered.

Signe wordlessly dug through her bag and handed Brian the requested amount, earning a grin from the salesman.

"C'mon you, follow her." Brian directed me gruffly.

I stepped off of the display pedestal I was standing on and followed Signe to her car, pausing outside of the vehicle as she climbed in.

The sky was a light gray shade with dark clouds that blocked the sun rumbling threateningly overhead, signaling that rain was soon to come.

"You can sit in the passenger seat." She told me gently, reaching over and opening the door for me.

I nodded and did as she wanted, buckling up in the seat next to her before she started the car and began driving.

"We're going to the airport to return to Brighton, that's where I live." Signe added as I watched the world whiz by in a blur of colors, rain beginning to drizzle from the sky.

"Why did you come to Denmark? If you don't mind me asking." I replied, Signe's expression shifting as she kept her eyes focused on the road.

"Personal reasons." She answered curtly, sounding like she didn't want to talk.

A moment of silence passed as the car slowed to a stop at a red light, rain tapping against the roof of the car before dripping down the windows.

"Green is an interesting hair color choice." Signe remarked casually as the light turned green.

I ran a hand through the fluffy green hair on my head, nearly forgetting it was my default color I had when I was in Ireland.

"I can change my appearance if you so desire." I offered, causing Signe to smile slightly.

"That'd be great, I would like your hair to look more...natural." Signe admitted kindly, as if worried that she would offend me.

I nodded and lightly tapped the LED on the side of my head, causing the green hair to gradually turn a coffee bean shade of brown that Signe seemed to like.

"Is this color okay?" I asked Signe, my finger hovering by the LED in case I needed to change the color again.

"It looks great." Signe replied, looking at my hair for a brief moment before she pulled parked at the airport.

I looked at my reflection in the side view mirror to see an android with sky blue eyes and fluffy mahogany brown hair dressed in a blue suit with an armband around my arm staring back at me.

I attempted to smile, but it looked wrong since the joy on my face couldn't quite seem to reach my eyes.

"C'mon." Signe beckoned me as she got out of the car, motioning for me to follow her as she lugged a suitcase behind her.

I caught up with her and took the suitcase, making sure to not accidentally cause the suitcase to fall over as it rolled across the uneven ground.

The airport was unsurprisingly crowded as we stepped inside, Signe finding us seats so we could sit and wait for our flight.

"So, you don't have a name." Signe muttered under her breath as we sat down, her eyes boring into mine.

"I was called Seán by my previous owners." I stated, the corners of her lips turning up in a sad smile.

"So, tell me what you remember about yourself and your previous life Seán." Signe prompted as she crossed her legs.

"I am an American made android sent to Ireland that was originally an YK500 model, my purpose being to act as the youngest child in the McLoughlin family," I began as Signe leaned in closer so I could be heard over the sounds of people in the airport.

"The mother allowed me to live my own life in Ireland after my LED was transplanted into an American AX400 model, the one you see now, but my freedom only lasted for a few years."

"Why?" Signe interjected with a frown.

"I was caught by an RX800 model android designed to capture deviant androids like I was considered to be." I explained patiently before continuing.

"From there, I was shipped to Denmark and now I have been purchased by you." I finished.

"You don't remember anything else?" Signe demanded sternly, relaxing only when I shook my head.

"You've been everywhere." Signe observed.

"Actually, I haven't been to Africa, Asia, Russia-"

"Okay I get it, I'm sorry." Signe cut me off with an exasperated sigh.

"Flight 364 is taking off in five minutes, I repeat, flight 364 is taking off in five minutes." A female voice announced from overhead, Signe shooting up to her feet.

"That's our flight!" Signe exclaimed as she grabbed the suitcase, quickly disappearing in the crowd before I could follow her.

"Signe!" I cried out, scanning the crowd for her as I pushed past people while muttering apologies.

I finally spotted her boarding a plane several yards away, causing me to sprint so I could reach her before the plane took off.

"Do you have a ticket?" A make android attendant questioned me at the door, stopping me from entering.

"It's with me."

Signe poked her head out of the door and dragged me inside, the two is us sitting down right before the plane took off.

"Is there anything you require of me?" I asked Signe as she glanced out the window, the plane beginning to ascend into the storm clouds.

"Yes-Don't wake me up."

With that, she reclined back in her seat and closed her eyes, her expression peaceful as I sat back.

Just as I was about to close my eyes, I saw an officer stand up from his seat and approach me with his hand hovering over a gun.

"Signe-"

I broke off when the officer grabbed me by the collar of my suit and pulled me up to my feet, Signe groaning softly as she cracked her eyes open.

"Hey!" Signe blurted as she pulled me back towards her, the officer letting me go as I stumbled back down into my seat.

"Sorry, I saw the android uniform, but not the LED, so I thought he was deviant." The officer apologized meekly, hastily returning to his seat.

"You okay?" Signe whispered to me as I self consciously straightened my tie, brushing imaginary dusts of speck off of my coat.

"I am fine." I assured her calmly as Signe sat back down, shooting a glare at the officer in the process.

"Now arriving in Brighton." The pilot announced over the intercom, Signe grabbing her suitcase down from the overhead storage.

"Here, I can take it." I offered as I stepped out into the aisle, Signe shaking her head as she pushed past me to exit the plane.

"If I'm not supposed to be helping you, then what's my purpose?" I called out after Signe as I followed her off of the plane and grabbed her hand to stop her.

She looked back at me as she pulled her hand free from my grip like my hand was on fire, her eyes shining with sadness.

"Personal reasons."

Question her further?

Let the subject go?
