Chapter 10

It was almost lunch time and so far, Amy and Alice had no luck in finding Alice's parents. Feeling tired from walking, they decided to sit down on a bench by a fountain near the main entrance to the park.

"Miss Amy? What if we never find them?" Alice asked worriedly.

"Don't talk like that Alice. I know it may look bad right now but no matter what happens, you just need to stay positive." Amy said reassuringly.

"Positive?"

"That's right. I've always believed that as long as you believe things will get better, they will get better eventually."

"You really think so?" Alice asked.

"I know so!" Amy smiled.

Alice smiled herself, starting to feel more confident "Okay! I'm going start being more positive too!"

"That's the spirit!" Amy said cheerfully.

Suddenly, Amy heard her smartphone vibrating. She reached into her purse to get it out and noticed that she had a text message.

*Hey Ames.* The text was from Sonic.

Amy texted back *Hey Sonic.*

*Listen, something urgent just came up. Where are you?*

*Oh, well I'm at the fountain by the main entrance to the park.*

*Alright sit tight. We'll be right over.*

*Wait, "we"? What do you mean by that?* Amy texted confused.

*You'll see when we get there.* Sonic finished.

*Um, okay.* Amy finished before putting her phone away.

"Who were you texting?" Alice asked.

"A friend of mine." Amy answered.

"Is he going to help us find my parents?"

"I'm sure he will. He should be on his way here shortly."

Suddenly, Alice heard two familiar voices behind her, shouting her name.

"ALICE!!!"

Both Amy and Alice turned around to see three people that they were surprised but more than happy to see.

"MOMMY!!!  DADDY!!!" Alice shouted with joy.

"SONIC!!!" Amy cheered.

Alice ran to her parents who knelt down to give her warm embrace while Amy went to Sonic's side who was smiling warmly at what he was seeing.

"So, I'm guessing that's Alice?" Sonic asked.

"Yep!" Amy answered.

"And I'm guessing those two are who you were referring to when you said 'we'?" She smirked.

"Bingo!" Sonic replied with a wink.

"So, how did you cross paths with them?"

"After those kids I was playing with wore me out, I decided to get a drink of water.  That's when I met Paul and Emily." Sonic said referring to the parents.

Amy nodded head as Sonic continued.

"Having recognized who I was, they asked if I could help them find their daughter who had mysteriously disappeared and of course I said yes."

"Then what happened?" Amy asked.

"That's when I decided to text you to see if we could all look for Alice together.  But wow, what are the odds of you already finding her?" Sonic finished with a chuckle.

Amy giggled as she and Sonic turned to look back at the happy family.

"I guess it was serendipity that we were able to get this family together again." Amy smiled with tears in her eyes.

"Yeah, serendipity." Sonic smiled feeling teary eyed himself.  A fact that did not go unnoticed by Amy.

"Sonic?  Are you crying?" Amy asked.

"WHAT!?  N-No, of course not!  Sonic the Hedgehog never cries!  I just had stuff in my eyes that's all!" Sonic quickly said while wiping the tears from his eyes.

Amy giggled "Yeah, right."

Soon the family was finished hugging and went over to the hedgehogs to thank them.

"Emily and I can't thank you enough Sonic for helping us find our daughter." Said Paul.

"Hey, I'm a hero!  It's what I do best!" Sonic grinned.

"And thank you Amy for looking after our little Alice." Said Emily.

"It was my pleasure." Amy smiled.

"So um, you guys aren't going to be too harsh when you give Alice a time out, are you?" Sonic asked curiously.

"Actually Sonic, we're not going to punish her.  The thing is, we know now that it was partly our fault that she disappeared." Said Paul embarrassed.

Emily nodded in agreement "Paul was so distracted with his newspaper and I was so distracted with my magazine that we hadn't noticed that she had run off."

"So I think we've each learned a valuable lesson today, haven't we?" Asked Paul.

"Uh huh!  From now on, I'm always going to ask permission before I go anywhere on my own!" Said Alice proudly.

"Thatta girl!" Sonic winked while giving a thumbs up.

Suddenly, everyone's stomachs started growling.

"I guess our stomachs are saying it's lunch time." Amy giggled while checking her watch just to be sure.

"Would you two like to join us for lunch?  We owe you that much for helping us." Emily offered.

"We appreciate the offer but we're going to have decline.  Perhaps another time." Said Amy.

"I've got a better idea." Sonic intervened.

"Let's hear it." Said Paul.

"How about the next time you and Emily go on a date, Amy and I can babysit Alice?" Sonic offered.

"Sonic, that's a wonderful idea!" Amy gleefully approved.

"Really?  Are you sure it wouldn't be too much trouble?" Asked Emily.

"No trouble at all!" Sonic and Amy said together.

"Well, it's really up to Alice." Said Paul.

"Are you okay with this sweetie?" Asked Emily.

Alice looked at Sonic and Amy who both kneeled down to her height.

"Will I really get to spend time with you while mommy and daddy are out?" Asked Alice.

"If you'd like." Sonic answered.

"Like your father said, it's really up to you." Said Amy.

Alice looked down for a moment or two until she raised her head and smiled wider than she had all day.

"HOORAAYY!!!!" She cheered while running up to Sonic and Amy and giving them a big hug which they happily returned.

"Well I guess that answers that question." Paul smiled.

"It certainly does." Emily smiled in agreement.

After exchanging phone numbers with the hedgehogs, it was time for the family to go.  But before they left, Alice gave Sonic and Amy one last hug along with a kiss on both of their cheeks.

"Thank you Miss Amy and Mister Sonic." Alice said happily.

"Anytime Alice.  Anytime." Amy said with a warm smile.

"And you don't have say Mister or Miss anymore.  We're pals now, right?" Sonic grinned and winked.

"Right!" Alice smiled as she left and waved goodbye.

Sonic and Amy smiled as they waved back.

"What a nice kid." Said Sonic.

"Yeah." Amy agreed.

"So, Amy..."

"Yes?"

"Have I behaved well enough to get a chili dog?" Sonic asked with a smirk.

Amy smirked back "What do you think?"
