Chapter one: A Test of Skills

Kara was just 5 years old when she started to show promise to the agency that she was born into. She was smart and witty, everything they looked for in their corrupted agency of young killing machines. At 7 years old she was taken to a training facility in Hilo Hawaii. It was ran by a man under the name Bo McGreagor or "General Kenobi". No one knew much about the man, but they knew he has a son who was 6 years old and he too had shown promise to the agency.

Entering an academy at such a young age the children were vulnerable and impressionable. They were like malleable toys that the government had at their fingertips. Having such young kids made it easier for their teachers to tell them about the harsh truth of the governments that ran the crazy world. It was also easier to train the children in deadly combat styles and turn them into killing machines, ready and obedient.

Waking to the bright overhead lights Kara pulled herself up and out of bed, it was dawn and the sun was starting to rise over the small hills in Hilo Hawaii. It was raining just like any other day in this city. The lights from overhead cast shadows of the other students onto the tile floor. The room was large and slept roughly 30 students, but this years it was mostly empty with 20 students in total. It was a start to a new day of training and all the students were waking from a night of slumber after a long days training in the field and classroom. The rooms they were housed in gave little thought to gender and housed the girls with the boys. All of the students learned on the same page and were expected to do the same tasks, and were given the same rules.

Sighing Kara pulled the tan long sleeve shirt on and buckled her belt. She fashioned the sword she had chosen on the first day of classes to the brown belt she was wearing. Lacing up her combat boots she sat back down on the bed. The doors opened for the morning announcement and the commander of the camp walked in. "Fall to attentions cadets!" all the students in the room rose and stood facing the man, rigid and ready to receive their morning orders. "Today you will be meeting the older class from the other side of the camp, you will take a test that you will either pass or fail. Those who fail will be sent back to the sad ass hole you came from, those who pass will live to see another day." the boy standing next to Kara rolled his eyes and muttered something under his breath. "Morning meal starts in 10 minutes, do not be late. Dismissed." chatter quickly filled the room, the news about the test was all the students could talk about, who would pass and who would be sent home. The students fell into their factions and began exiting the room. The boy who had been standing next to Kara stopped and looked at her.

"Are you going to the mess hall?" he asked in a thick scottish accent.

"Huh?" Kara looked up the words breaking her train of thought and pulling her back into the moment.

"I said are you going to the mess hall or not?" the boy said looking annoying that she had not heard him the first time. "If you miss the morning meal you'll be hungry for the tests."

"Yes I am going." she answered smiling at the boy. "Sorry who are you?"

"Birth name Emanuel K McGreagor, but they call me Malakai now." the boy answered. "And you are?"

"Kara." she answered

"You don't have a last name?" Malakai looked so confused. "Are you an orphan?"

"Yes, I was found on the steps of the police department when I was just a baby." Kara said "Kara is the only name I had on me, so that's what they called me."

"They have to have given you a last name," Malakai said, "that's how life works."

"I think it was Smith, but I never use it, so I don't really remember." Kara said smiling.

"Well Kara is nice enough." Malakai said smiling. "Well let's head to the mess hall before we miss the morning meal."

"Malakai why did you talk to me today?" Kara asked, "I mean we sleep right next to each other but you chose not to talk to me."

"Oh, please call me Mal." he answered, "and honestly I have no idea. I do random shit from time to time." the two started their journey to the mess hall talking back and forth about their time here. Mal had grown up in the academy since he was a baby. His father was the one who ran the whole operation so he felt more pushed to do well just to impress his old man. Opening the doors to the mess hall the two were greeted by the smell of bacon and eggs.

"Wow, someone pulled a crap load to bring us this today." Mal said smiling. "We better get in line and find a place to eat before they run out of bacon."

"Are you always this concerned about food Mal?" Kara asked smiling at the boy. He sure was a character.

"I am always this worried about food, never know what meal is going to be your last." Grabbing a plate Mal started walking down the line looking at the mesley options available that day. "But, even if I fail this test I have to stay in the camp. My father lives here with my mother so I am kinda humped."

"That has to suck." Kara said smiling at the server. "I mean always living on a military base, that can't be fun."

"Well, its kinda all the life I have known. I never had the thrills of a foster family." Mal said walking towards an open table. "What is it like out there? You know actually living off the base?"

"Oh, it's not that exciting." Kara said taking a bite of food, "I never got to leave the land I lived on."

"Well, I guess you went from one prison to another." Mal said digging into his eggs.

"Attention Cadets!" the Commander said standing at the door. "General Kenobi has an announcement to make." all of the students stood to salute the General.

"Please sit." the General said smiling at the students who began to slowly sit back into their seats, "Today is the day you all will be moving on, each one of you will be testing your skills in hand to hand combat, firearms and intelligence, you will all choose your weapon and meet me at the range in 20 minutes. You will first see a demo from the elder students, then you will all show us what you have in stores and at the end of the day, each teacher will choose their students based on your demonstrations. Those who are not chosen can choose to remain in the camp for the next round of selections. Those who are chosen will move on with their teacher into their units."

"Sr. yes Sr." the room yelled at their General.

"I wish all of you the best of luck in today's trials." the General said. With that he walked from the room leaving the children to chatter about the upcoming trials.

"Man, I hope I never have to actually kill anything." Kara said looking down at her plate. "I don't think I could Pull it off."

"Well, it's been scientifically proven that the normal human will do anything in order to survive. That's why we started killing each other in the first place. We needed to eat, so we had to kill to get what we needed." Mal said taking another bite of his food. "But I know what you mean...." he trailed off lost in thought

"But learning to fight and use weapons does not mean that you have to kill something, I mean you can win a fight by injuring someone right?" Kara asked with a hopeful tone.

"I suppose." Mal answered. "Let's hurry and eat so we can go see what we have in stored for today."

The range was wet and windy as all the students finally made it out there. The General was already out there waiting for them to arrive. Mal and Kara hurried to their spots to await directions. "Sitting in front of you is a standard 50 pound recurve bow. You have 3 arrows. Your objective is to shoot the target, and not miss. Be mindful of your surroundings and don't hit anything but the target. On my mark you may fire when ready."

Mal looked over at Kara who was standing next to him. "Hey, this is your thing, I have seen the way you shoot, you never miss."

"Thanks, I just never had this much pressure weighing on 3 shots." Kara answered wiping a bit of sweat from her brow. The sun was high in the east and it was almost 7:30 am.

"You may fire when ready." the General called from his watching position. Leaning over he whispered something into one of the other teacher's ear. Kara picked up her bow and an arrow, she knocked it and looked out at the target, she had done this a million times before, she knew the bow, the weight, the arrow and how far the target was from her. Lifting the bow and pulling the string back to her cheek she took a breath and let go. The arrow flew across the field hitting the target dead on the bullseye.

"Bloody Hell, that's one hell of a shot." someone said from behind her. The older students had just walked out onto the range after their morning meal.

"Um...." Kara said looking behind her confused as to who had just said that. "Thanks?" she said still confused.

"You welcome, try not to miss the next one." the same voice said. Doing the same thing she had done before, allowing the bow to do the work for her, she landed the next arrow right next the first. "Nice, can you split it down the middle?"

"I'm sorry but who said that?" Kara said turning around.

"Oh, sorry hi. They call me Z." a boy said. He had short black hair that semi covered his eyes. He had been standing behind her for a moment watching the way she shot.

"Well, thanks." Kara said turning her attention back to the task at hand.

"Can you split it down the middle?" Z asked looking around her to see the target. "Looks like you got close."

"I am not sure, but can you stop distracting me before I use you as a walking talking target?" Kara snapped.

"Geez, I was just trying to see how good you were." Z said chuckling to himself stepping back further away from her.

"Why don't you go stand out in front of my target and we can see if I miss you on accident." Kara said picking up her last arrow. She hooked it to the string of her bow and let go of her anger, let it flow into the arrow itself. Feeling the wind, the bow and the string she let go. The arrow flew faster than the eye could follow splitting her second arrow down the middle. Smiling she looked around to see her fellow students had not done as well as her. Mal had one on the bulls eye and 2 in the black zone.

"I told you this was your field." Mal said smiling. "Good job, I hope one of the teachers was watching that shit."

"With a shot like that, someone is bound to pick you." Z said from behind her. "I guess I will be seeing you later then."

"Ya, I suppose so." Kara said placing her bow on the stand. What an Odd kid. Kara thought to herself as she looked to the range.

"Students, We have a demo from our very own Junior agent Z" the General said standing to show everyone a boy standing in front of a gun range. "Please lend him your eyes and see what we have in store for you during your next rank up." Kara turned to see the same boy she had just spoken to. He stepped up to the target. What he was shooting at was no larger than bottle caps and they were about 30 feet away from him maybe more. The boy looked back and smiled at Kara. with a wink he turned to the turrets and picked up his hand gun. Taking aim he knocked off all 5 of the targets. Wow, he definitely lives up to the legend. These kids are really good. Kara thought to herself. I just hope i can become that good at shooting one day. A light came on signaling it was time for the next faze of the training. Kara was frozen in her place, she could not take her eyes off the boy. he was as good as people had said he was.

"Hey, Kara, dude, move." Mal's words broke into her thoughts.

"Huh?" she said turning around. "What did you say?"

"Your holding up the line." someone said looking angrily at her.

"Bruv, we are moving to the obstacle course." Mal said smiling. "Are you ready for this?"

"I was born ready." Kara said smiling. "Let's get this bullshit done."

The obstacle course was long, completed on average in 5 minutes, Kara knew if she kept her head she could complete it faster than that. She looked at the long course, the ropes, the wall and the wheels. Taking a look at the turrets guarding each end post she took a deep breath. I got this, I have done it a million times. "Welcome to stage two of the tests. You will pair off in groups of 5, nominate a leader and take the course as a group. Those who finish are not granted a pass. We will evaluate you on your performance as a group and how well each of you work together as a team." the General said walking up to his watch tower. "Good luck to all of you." turning to see the remaining students, there was Mal and a few other boys were standing around. Waving Mal over Kara smiled at him.

"Hey, let's do this thing." Mal said smiling at her. "Who is going to be team leader?"

"Well....I'm Christer." a tall blond boy said smiling. "But friends call me Chris."

"I'm Nickolas." one shorter boy with dark hair said stepping forward. "I am just going to say with Kara's skills we should have her as the leader."

"I'm David MCgough." a tall red haired boy said. "I second that bet."

"Well I for one think it should be me." one boy said stepping forward. "They call me Charlie. And I am the most advanced here, therefore I should be the one leading the group."

"I can't argue with experience." Kara said, "It's decided then, Charlie will lead the group."

"Well good luck to you mate." Mal said. "And one more thing, Don't fuck it up. Can you do that for me?"

Lunging at Mal the older boy grabbed him by his neck. "Listen to me nerd, I know what I am doing so sit back and stay out of my way."

"Charlie, that's enough. Let him go." Kara said stepping up to the boy who was close to a foot taller than her. "He was just making a point. None of us want to fail this test, we all want to do well. So let's just get this over with."

Dropping the smaller boy onto the ground Charlie turned to face the girl. Towering over her he looked down smiling. "You think you can challenge me?" he sneered. "You think because you are a good shot you are better than me?"

"No, I didn't-" Kara started before Charlie struck her across the stomach with his arm throwing her onto the ground.

"You don't get to speak girl." he said walked over to her. "Your nothing but a reject, dig up from some country. Even you don't know who you are or what you are."

"Hey, back off." Z walked over to the group. "Here, lemme help you up." holding his hand out for Kara to pull herself up off the ground. "You alright?"

"Ya, I'm fine." she said dusting herself off. "I have dealt with worse than Charlie."

"Good. I saw what you did for that kid, its brave but this is a dog eat dog world. There is no room for error or kindness at times." Z said smiling weakly. "If you allow compassion to take hold of you, it will only tear you apart."

"I guess that's a chance I am going to have to take." Kara said smiling. "Alright guys, grab your weapons let's get ready to do this thing. Z, thanks for your help."

"Ya, don't mention it." Z walked away from the group glancing back at Kara. That girls sure is something else. She has another way of looking at things. Doesn't she know that's how you get killed out here.

Walking up to the course Charlie lead the way. "I am this group's leader." he said to the General. "We are ready." being the second to the last group, pressure was on for them to do well.

"Come on guys, we got this." Mal said gripping the wooden dowel he was holding. Each student was handed a wooden dowel to defend themselves against the oncoming objects that were going to be thrown and shot at them. Anything from golf balls to wiffers. They had even seen some people shooting airsoft pellets at some of the students. The goal was not to get hit, while crossing and not fall off.

"Beggin on my mark." the General said looking down on the group. Firing a single bullet into the air the group raced onto the course.

"Hey, Kara stay out of my way." Charlie said pushing her to the side. "This is my time to shine."

"Fine." Kara said lagging behind. Watching Charlie take on some of the fire power from the first two turrets of tennis balls. He's not giving anyone orders. She thought to herself. They are all going to look like fools. Racing up to run beside Mal she looked over at him. "We have to do something." she said as they came to the first obstacle, 30 wooden beams all running sideways to each other, the goal was to race across it and not get hit down.

"I agree." he said looking at her. "If we all go over at once it will maximize your chances. Sense Charlie is not looking out for us, I guess that leaves the leading up to you."

"Alright." she said holding up her hand signaling for everyone to come to a stop. "Here's the plan. Mal, Chris you guys take those two beams, David you're with me. Cover each other during the fire ad stay just a few behind the other, call your blocks so we don't clash. Everyone got it?" nodding the boys took off in their orders. As they raced out towards the beams Kara signaled for everyone to spread out. The 3 boys followed her orders with no fail. Deflecting the tennis balls and jumping from beam to beam.

"Kara, its coming in too hot." David shouted at her from just behind her.

"Fall in behind me." she yelled at him. "Mal, Chris, for a diamond defensive positions." the 3 boys fell into position behind her. "Protect your flanks." the group made it over the bars with no hits and just a bit out of breath. "Nice work guys. Lets see what the next thing is."

"It looks like it's time to take out one of those towers." Mal said, "But how are we going to get close enough to take them out with just these?" he said gesturing to his dowle.

"I have an idea." Chris said smiling. "Hear me out."

"Alright Chris, what the idea." Kara said breathing hard. "I'm open to anything."

"Well, if we can get those turrets to fire at something, I can get up to one of them and use their own firepower to take the other 3 out." Chris said, "See, they are all in firing range from each other. I just need a distraction to allow me to get close enough to one of them to take out the guy sitting in the shooters seat, Once i am there i should be fine."

"Good, David you go with him, cover each other. Mal you're with me. Let's give them something to shoot at." Kara said smiling. "Let's put on a show."

"Hey Kara." Chris said looking at her. "I won't be needing this, you might need it." tossing her the dowle he headed off in the direction of the turrets.

"Hey, Dildos, check me out!" Mal said yelling as he ran out into the open area. "Shoot at me suckers."

"What is he doing?" Z said looking at the field in disbelief. "He is going to get the shit beaten out of him."

"Why do you care." one of the other girls said looking the other way. "I doubt any of these will pas the test. They all look like they are doing horrible. I mean look at their team leader. He is already close to the ending, he might pass."

"What ever." Z said looking back to the course to see Kara running out right behind Mal, two weapons at the ready.....holding them backwards?...

The turrets took notice to the two making a commotion in the middle of the field and took aim.

"Well here they come." Kara said smiling at Mal.

"Ready?" he said taking position behind ehr.

"Is that a rhetorical question?" she answered holding her weapons up. "We got this." the three turrets opened fire on the two causing Ben to look down seeing his son and the girl standing side by side. What are they doing? That's suicide! The two moved as one covering the other's weak sides.

"The girl is an exceptional swordsman. So so your son." a tall white woman said to the general, they are both showing great skill, but their tactics are reckless and crazy."

"That is true." the General said. "But what happened to the rest of the team?" just as he said that, one of the turrets opened fire on the furthest turret. "Oh, it seems they are using the firepower to their own benefits. The two down there were simply a distraction."

"Simply brilliant." the woman said taking a eat next to the General. "Those two seem to be in sync, I would say keep the two of them together."

"I agree, this small group of 4 seem to know what they are doing, the girl shows exceptional leadership skills. She might have what it takes after all." The General said smiling. "She has the beetle skills to be on Omega, and the mind and battle tactics to be on Alfa. Her unit will be hard to deterin."

"Agreed, but those tests are far off, and we don't have to decide that just yet."

Back on the battlefield Chris and David had taken out the last of the turrets, for the most part it was home free from here. Running towards the large wall Mal ran up half of the wall, then grabbing the top he pulled himself up. Wrapping his legs around the top he leaned down to give the others a lift. Pulling them up enough to allow them to grip the top of the wall. Once they were al on top of the wall they all looked at eachother. "We are almost there." Mal said wiping sweat off his forehead. "Looks like we have some more deflecting to do, but other than that we should be home free."

"Let's not get too cocky just yet." Kara said. "It looks like Charlie is out." she said pointing to the boy who was hanging on a grappling line.

"I guess even the most experienced fucks up every now and again." Chris said jokingly. "I guess that means we have to help him, doesn't it?"

"No, we don't need all the members to complete the mission." Kara said, "sometimes compassion is what gets you killed. He didn't look out for us. You all don't owe him anything."

"What are you saying Kara?" Mal said looking at her. Kara handed Chris his weapon knowing he was going to need it later.

"You guys run past, I'll deal with Charlie." Kara said smiling to the boys. "I think it's time him and I had a little chat about his leading tactics."

Kara made her way over to Charlie and stopped right under him. "Hey Charlie boy." she said looking up at the boy hanging from his feet.

"Kara, good you came for me." he said "now get me down." Picking up Charlie's weapon she held it in her hand.

"Ya, no I'm good Charlie." she said swinging the weapon around. "You know, I think I am going to take that boy's advice and not allow compassion to cloud my views on this." she started walking away. "Hey good luck with the rest of the tests. I hope you get chosen." chuckling she jumped down from the platform that was suspending the boy. Landing she looked back at him "I highly doubt you will."

From his watching post the boy who had talked to Kara earlier smiled knowing she had taken his advice. She is smarter than she looks. He thought to himself. Maybe she does have what it takes to become one of us. "Agent, you will choose one or two students to train for one hour, teach them something you believe will help them with their final demonstration of skill." the General said looking down on the older students. "Their faith might just well depend on you." he said smiling knowing all of the students below him knew exactly how much pressure he had just put on them. Z looked around thinking of who to choose. Kara was the obvious choice, he knew she would take to learning something in the blink of an eye, and that Mal boy, he might amount to something if he was shown the proper way to do something. It looks like those two are the ones.

"I take Kara and the blond boy." he said looking at the other students. "The rest are up for grabs."

"Do you really think that is a smart choice?" the General said looking down at him, "The two of them seem a bit reckless for your taste."

"They will be fine." Z said smiling. "I think I can show them a thing or two."

"Very well Agent." the General said smiling. "I wish you luck." Turning to face the students as Kara and her group finished the course. "Kara, McGreagor, the two of you have been assigned to Agent Z for 1 hour, he will teach you what he can to prep the two of you for the final exam." the General started naming other students as they finished and they all started going towards their temporary teachers.

"I had a feeling you might pick me." Kara said walking up to the boy. "You never took your eyes off me."

"You are a very observant girl." Z said smiling, "That seems to serve you well. But are you as prepared as you are observant?" he said reaching for a weapon. Seeing it before he had a chance to fully draw the weapon, Kara swing the stick around knocking ti from his hand, she used the full force of the weapon to knock him down on the ground.

"Your going to have to do better than that to get my by surprise." she said smiling down at him. "But nice try." she reached out her hand to help him back onto his feet. Gingerly taking her hand the older boy rose from the ground.

"Huh, quick and smart." he said smiling "You might just have what it takes."

"Excuse me? What about me?" Mal said standing behind the pair. "You didn't just choose me to be a third wheel did you?"

"No, I choose you because you have skill, but no brains, I thought maybe putting the two of you together would help you learn from her." Z said looking at the blond Scottish boy. "I hope I am right about that."

"Are you calling me stupid?" Mal said taking a step closer. As a Scottish boy, he was quite a bit taller than the young Asian boy. "I would think twice before trying that again kid."

"Excuse me? Who are you calling kid?" Z said becoming annoyed with the Scott. "Starting off, I graduated from you class early, I am already an agent, you are still a student, so don't even try me."

"Hey, boys." Kara said looking at the two of them, swinging her weapon onto her shoulder. "When the two of you are done comparing dick sizes can we get to the learning process?"

"Right." Z said looking away from Mal. "How are the two of you with guns?"

About a forty five into teaching Z realized Mal was a perfect shot, only missed a few shots every now and again, while Kara would miss every other one. She seemed partial to her bow. She seemed a bit out of place with a firearm. "Here, try holding it with two hands." he said moving her hand to place both of them on the weapon. "That way you have more control of where the bullet is going to land." Looking at her teacher Kara took the weapon, looked down the top of the weapon she took a breath and allowed the weapon to become a part of her. She pulled the trigger and the bullet hit dead center of the target. "Good, now do it again." Z said smiling. She smiled and fired three more times all three following the first. Dead center. The General smiled watching the boy teach the younger students. Nodding at Z he started walking down the line looking at the other students. That Kara is smart. She might prove to be useful. She seems to grasp the bigger picture of things.

A bell rang letting the first round of students know their training time was up. Z looked at Mal and at Kara. "Well, I guess this means it's time for your final test." He said smiling. "Kara, keep your head, and show them everything you know. I know you have it in you. Your smart, witty and fast. Use your height to your advantage." He smiled at her and nodded his head. "Mal, I won't deny you have skill, but your too focused on what other people think, find your humility. People will see that in you as well as your abilities. And remember, don't miss a shot." Z winked at the two. "I know you'll do fine. I'll see you guys at the end." he turned and started to walk away.

"Z, wait." Kara said walking after him. "Thank you, for everything you have done." He needed at her and smiled. "Really, I mean it. It means the world to me."

"Anytime Kara." he said walking over to place his hand on her shoulder. "Remember, sometimes your heart will misguide you. Don't let your feelings get in the way of your work. You end up dead that way. But I see your heart, and I know that it's hard, don't lose your heart, just protect it."

"I will." Kara said mostly to herself.

The sound of gunfire filled the air as many students were showing off their best skills with weapons and tech. Kara watched from the sidelines nervous about her upcoming test. She looked at the screen in front of her. Choosing archery, hand to hand combat and swordsmanship as her strong points she smiled. She knew she could do this, I just hope I don't mess up on the surprise skill. She clicked the finished button and the whale began to spin. The last skill was chosen at random, to show the teachers how you are doing something your not as familiar with. She just hopped all her extra training would help her with this. The wheal finally can to a stop landing on splicer. I am going to have to hack into something? This is not going to go well. Knowing her own skillset she knew she was not good enough at that to get by with it. Looking over at Mal she faked a smile. "What did you get?" he asked looking at the screen.

"Splicing." she said looking down. "Mal, I know very little about computers, I am going to do horrible."

"Remember when they made us memorize the rubik's cube?" he asked smiling.

"What does that stupid thing have to do with anything?" she asked angrily. "That was just to test our memory."

"Well... computers are just like that." he said handing her a small handheld computer, "Look, this is showing those same algorithms. All computers are the same. They are just a bunch of numbers and combinations."

"So.... if I use the computer like I used that stupid cube, I should be alright?" she said taking the small device from the boy. "Thank you Mal."

"Ya anytime." he said smiling at her. "So.... have you met that "Agent Z"? Before?" he said making quotation marks with his hands.

"I think I knew him when I was little. But I am not sure." Kara said looking across the field at the older boy. "I don't know. He didn't seem to remember me."

"Well, maybe it was someone else." Mal said looking at the boy. "I think he likes you." he said laughing.

"He does not." Kara said striking him in the stomach almost knocking the younger boy over. "Don't say stupid shit like that. If we become full agents, we won't have time for stupid feelings anymore."

"But you can always be, I don't know, star crossed lovers or something." Mal said laughing again. "It would be kinda cool to have a secret lover."

"Oh my fuck Mal, will you shut up?" she said punching him again. This time the younger boy did fall onto the ground but he was still laughing.

"I am just saying Kara. It might be cool." grabbing his stomach as he laughed Mal tried to stand. The screen in front of them showed a photo of Kara indicating what platform she was to go to as her final test was finally upon her.

"Well, I guess that's me." she said helping the boy to his feet. "Wish me luck out there."

"Ya," Mal said looking up to see his own name flash on the screen. "Same for me." the two friends smiled and walked to their platforms and took their place in the center.

"Up next is Emmanuel Malakai K McGreagor." the General said looking at the platforms. "Kara, and Charlie Cavin. You may begun when ready." a ringer went off signaling tech students to begin.

Kara walked over to the rack and picked up a sword, an artificially simulated opponent appeared in front of her, she reached over and picked up another smaller weapon. Holding the longer one in her right and the shorter in her left. Kara held both weapons backwards, this was in some way a style of her own. No one else in the camp did this. The General had once told her that it imparted her ability to fight, but someone she used both weapons to create a kind of impenetrable defense around herself. Another bell went off starting the fight. Glancing over her shoulder she saw that Mal was doing the same test. The opponent moved in on her and she moved to the left before it hand time to strike at her. Moving around the larger opponent she was able to deliver the first blow. Watching her flank and prepping for multiple opponents. She moved quick and fluid, one perfect moment. She slashed through the first opponent, as she landed three more appeared to face her. Gritting her teeth she ran towards them. She slid under the blow of the first one and cut at its knee as she went. Jumping over another blow from the second she sliced its head from its body. The image disappears. Moving on to the third she focused on her from, making sure everything was perfect. Taking down the remaining two without much effort she looked at the empty arina with pride. Just one more person to fight then its on to the second challenge. She thought to herself. A tall man with two blades walked onto her platform. "Good luck kid." he said smiling.

"Thank you." she said lunging at him "But I have a feeling you might be the one who needs it." the man blocked her strikes easily waiting for her to tire. Suddenly he started attacking her when he thought she had started to tire. He had judged wrong. Kara went on the defense, protecting herself from all his blows without expending much effort. She was simply standing there blocking making sure her footing was right and there were no openings in her defense. As the man began to tire she winked at him. "Well... I suppose thank you is in order." she said. Dropping her short sword she grabbed the man's weapon slamming it against his chest she threw him back onto the ground. Slamming her foot onto his hand he dropped the other weapon. Quickly she moved her weapon to rest against his neck. The battle was over. Smiling proudly at herself Kara looked down at the man. "Good fight." she said offering him a hand to help him stand.

"Thank you." the man said standing. "You've got skill kid. That's for sure. They will definitely take notice to that." picking up his sword and Kara's he handed her the weapon and she handed him his. "Good luck with the rest of your test."

"Victor." a computer voice said from the screen above Kara. a sign on the screen read hand to hand combat. The next round was starting in 30 seconds. Kara walked over to the bench drank some water and wrapped her wrists quickly and make it back to the ring a few seconds before 2 girls walked into the ring. They were both older than her, and they were much taller than her. One had blond hair and the other's was raven black.

"Good Luck Kara." One of them said smiling. "We won't go easy on you. Trust me."

"I would hope not." Kara said smiling. She liked a good challenge. She had never sparred with these girls before but she knew that most girls fought like girls. So this was going to give her the advantage. She was more aggressive in her fighting, some would say she fights like a man.

"Begun." the computer said. The black haired girl ran at her first while the other watched her friend's flank.

From the sidelines Z watched the fights. He didn't take his eyes off Kara. he knew she had it in her, but he could not help but worry just a little bit. "You'll do fine dude." someone said looking at him watching her so intently.

"Huh?" he said looking back at his friend. "What? No I just think her tactics are interesting."

"Dude, you can't hide it." the girl said smiling at him. "You like her."

"We don't have the luxury of those kind of feelings." Z said smiling sadly, "But who needs it. This is the life we were given, we should be thankful."

"Whatever dude, you do you." his friend said walking away watching one of the other fights.

"Victor." the computer said as Kara pinned the blond girl to the ground. Just two more to go. Kara thought to herself. One more I am good at then the computer thing. Oh boy....

Archery The computer above her read out. Please avance to the range the sign read. Kara picked up a bow and quiver and walked out to the range. This was her moment to prove herself to everyone, she could not afford to mess this up. If she did perfect she would not be graded on her computer skills. I got this. She said to herself. Just 6 shots, 6 perfect shots then it's all over. Walking up to the mark on the ground she snapped the quiver to her back.

"Attention everyone." the General said, "Shooter on the range, fire when ready." Kara nodded to the General. This was her moment to shine. Evey teacher was looking at her. Taking a deep breath she reached for an arrow. Feeling the plastic feathers against her hand she grabbed one, letting the pins show her what fletch was supposed to be on the outside, she allowed the bow to do the work. Firing a recurve bow made it harder to pull the string back, but for Kara, this was the only kind of bow she would take into battle. The only kind of bow that made sense to her. Allowing her mind to clear she let the first arrow fly. A bell rand and and three targets dropped, reaching for another arrow she let it fly hitting the target dead on, then the next and the next. Each shot was perfect and precise. Never missing a beat. After her 6 shots were fired she was out and the bell rang again.

"Perfect score." the computer said

"Yes. no computer tech for me." Kara said smiling at herself. She looked back at the platforms, Mal had just finished his test, it looked like he missed a shot so he had to do one more test. She smiled and gave him a thumbs up letting him know he got this.

The test were all over the the students were all lined up, the General begun calling names. The older students were added into the mix as well, they had been graded on their abilities to teach the younger class. As the calling came to an end, Kara and Mal were left with some of the kids from their group along with Z and Charlie. "Agent Z, Kara, Mal, Chris, David, Nick. you all are assigned to Jr shadow. I will be your teacher. You will remain here on camp and be trained personally by me." the General said looking at the group. The General begun listing other names and assigning them to the same group. Mal looked over at Kara but she was looking at agent Z who was smiling back at her. They like each other. Mal thought to himself. I was her friend first. She thinks he is so cool. Well I'll show her what a real man is.
