Chapter 1
Zoey
I was shivering in fear as I wrapped my blanket tighter around me than it already was. I was curled up in a little ball in my pitch black room. I watched the pelting rain outside my bedroom window.
I hated thunder storms. It's not that I didn't like the rain, I hated the sound of thunder and the bright flash of lightning. Thunder had always reminded me of the sound of getting slapped really hard. Lightning looked like a metal prod, that I would always get shocked with.
I got out of my bed and tried not to wake the others, if I did they would hurt me. This was my chance to escape, to finally be free.
I waited until I saw my signal, the dim lamps slightly flickering.
Silently, I snuck out of the room and in to the hallway, watching for guards. I grinned to my self when I saw a guard laying against the wall, blood dropping down from his skull. He was definitely dead.
As I went further down the hall, I saw another guard pinned to the wall by his own sword. Still grinning, I twisted the sword a bit, hearing the guard groan in pain. Sam had definitely outdone himself this time.
When I got to the end of the hallway, I opened the door to my left, then walked in. My grin quickly turned into a smile as I saw my only family, Sam, stand in there with blood all over him.
"Have fun?" I asked him.
"Lots!" He replied cheerfully.
"You got a little messy in the hallway there brother." I told him while raising an eyebrow.
Glaring at me, he walked to the back of the room and opened the door. I saw it was leading outside as he walked out.
"C'mon! Its a full moon tonight!" He exclaimed, grinning.
I sprinted outside following, to see that he wasn't lying and the moon shone down on us brightly. I had noticed it had stopped raining and the clouds had drifted into the distance, the sky being clear.
"What time is it?" I asked Sam.
"Almost two in the morning." He told me matter of factly.
He had contacted me telepathically while I was asleep. It was a through a bond we have had ever since we were born, being twins and all.
"Wanna race?" He asked me.
"Where to?" I replied.
"All the way to our special place, of course." He said with a rude tone.
I had started shifting into my wolf form while he was still talking, and once he finished I had darted to the woods.
"Hey! No fair!" He shouted after me.
No rules! I told him through our bond.
He had already shifted and was only a tail length behind me, but I was still in the lead.
I avoided a tree at the last minute, but Sam wasn't as lucky. He let out a yelp when he came in contact, almost knocking the tree down with his weight. I snickered as he raced to catch up with me. I had known this forest by heart, having grown up here.
Me and Sam were almost tied, but me being just a snout length ahead. We broke out of the forest, ending up in a small clearing. We both shifted back then collapsed onto the soft grass next to each other.
"I won." I said while still panting.
"What do you want this time?" He said glumly.
"Hmm. Get me a new phone. I want an iPhone 11!" I told him excitedly.
"What?! No way!" He exclaimed.
"You have to do it! You are the one that lost!" I sang to him.
"Hey! Bragging rights were not part of the deal!" He said angrily.
"I'm not bragging, I'm stating facts." I told him very proudly.
"Whatever." he grumbled.
"Look! There's the North Star!" I said while pointing.
"Zoey, I know that." He said sarcastically.
"Sam, you don't know anything!" I told him, laughing.
"Hey! I'm older!" He shouted.
"Bye 16 minutes. Your point?" I asked raising an eyebrow.
"That means I know more!" He said, whining like a child.
"Dude, if your only older by 16 minutes then you don't know anymore than her. Plus, you couldn't possibly be 16 minutes older anyway, because that would mean your twins and I know you are related from the way you act." A voice boomed from behind us.
I jumped, standing up to see a teenage boy standing at the edge of the clearing. I didn't recognize him, so I tensed up imeadeatly. I heard Sam stand up behind me and move so he was slightly in front of me.
"Who are you?" Sam asked.
"I'm Justin." Replied the boy
"What are you doing here?" I asked him, stepping forward.
"I've come to ask you to come with me." He stated plainly.
I froze. The last time someone took me, I had been tied up and beaten nearly to death. Sam, having known where my mind was, grabbed my wrist and pulled me behind him.
"And why would you say that?" Growled Sam.
"Bosses orders." said Justin
"Why does your boss want us to go with you?" Sam hissed.
"Not both of you, just the girl." he told Sam.
"Why?"
"I don't know all I was told was to bring the girl back." he shrugged.
"The girl has a name." I said.
"Well, the girl hasn't told me her name." He said annoyed.
"You never asked." I told him.
"Well then, what's you name?"
"Zoey" I said.
Zoey! Stop talking! Sam told me.
It's a free country. Well, freedom of speech, anyways I replied.
"So, what do you say, Zoey?" Justin interrupted us.
"What? I wasn't paying attention." I said.
"Well then what were you doing?" He asked.
"Nothing." I didn't want anyone to know about me and Sam's bond. It wasn't bad or anything but can we at least have one thing to ourselves?
"Anyways, will you come with me willingly or will I have to take you by force? Your brother can come if you want, too." he said.
"Lets go then." I sighed.
"What!" Sam exclaimed.
I turned around and gave Sam a knowing look. I knew that he wouldn't let me go, but I could tell that Justin wasn't lying.
That's one of my specialtys, I can tell if someone's lying or not. It doesn't matter how hard they try to hide it, I can always tell.
Justin's not lying I told him.
I can't lose you again Sam complained to me.
Then come as well I said.
Fine he said unwillingly.
I turned back around and looked Justin in the eyes.
"Lets go." I stated.
Sam and I looked at each other stepped forward. Justin turned around and walked into the woods, making sure we were following him.
Another teenage guy, about our age walked out of the forest. He had chocolate brown hair and pale green eyes. I could tell that it was a part of the same pack as Justin from the way he looked at him then at us. The boy nodded at Justin and he nodded back before talking.
"This is my pack member, Max." He told us.
"What pack are you guys apart of?" I asked them.
"The West Jordan Pack." He said proudly.
Max looked bored, so I decided to play with them a little. Though he wasn't in wolf form,I knew his ears were sensitive and his eyesight was extraordinary.
I had years of pitpocket training, so it wouldn't be hard to do what I planned.
I went to step forward, but I purposefully tripped and bumped into Justin. He didn't even notice when I grabbed his phone and slid it in my pocket.
"Sorry." I said while trying to hold in my laughter.
What are playing at sis? Sam asked me.
Lighten up! I'm just having a bit of fun! I replied.
"Why are you laughing?" Max asked me.
I saw he had walked over to us and was standing beside Justin. I glanced back at Sam, hoping he would catch on.
"Just an inside joke." Sam said quickly.
"And what is this inside joke?" Justin asked, eyeing us.
"That every time I bump into someone, I steal something of theirs." I smirked.
"What?!" Justin exclaimed.
At that moment me and Sam burst into laughter. Justin looked panicked as he searched his pockets, finding his phone missing.
I then pulled his phone out of my pocket and handed it back to him.
"Told you he wouldn't notice." Sam said.
"No, you didn't say anything except for ask me what I was planning." I said matter of factly.
"Wait, you guys can talk telepathically?" Asked Justin.
"W-what! No way!" I stuttered.
"But no one can talk telepathically except for the Elders, and they were branded with a mark? Who are you people?" Max looked at us slightly accusingly and I knew our secret was going to be let out.
