[1] I'm Payton
"So what was so important you needed to call me out of the lesson about?" I asked my mom sitting unimpressed in her office, sat on an uncomfortable chair as she sat with great posture on her padded spinny chair behind her desk.
"I would just like to inform you we are having a new student come in today. And I'm setting it a strict rule to not talk to him,"
"Really?"
"And if you do... You know what will happen,"
"What's his name? Y'know so I know to avoid him,"
She rolled her eyes at me. "You and know are two different and separate words, Payton. You know I hate it when You say y'know." She scoffed. I nodded meaning whatever. "His name is Billie Joe Armstrong. He'll be followed by two more kids: Frank Edwin Wright and Michael Ryan Pritchard. All three of them had found themselves kicked out of their previous high school. Meaning I don't want you mingling with any of them. But specifically Mr Armstrong,"
Ooh, Armstrong. Is he that much trouble? Like dangerous trouble or fun trouble? I was interested obviously, her warning intrigued me. But I didn't tell her that of course, I just nodded. After she had gotten that out the way, I was sent back to my maths class as I took my space back in my assigned seat getting back to doodling the somewhat rabid looking dog I left off.
My mind zoned out of focus as I paid attention to the pen on my paper more than whatever the teacher was saying. Well- that was until I heard a familiar name.
"Okay Billie Joe, is that short for William Joseph or?" I heard my maths teacher ask as I glanced up to see she was talking to a boy I had never come across before but certainly had heard of already.
He had bleach blonde hair that shagged in his eyes, his brown roots growing out into it. He wore a band shirt and black skinny jeans. He looked around the room unimpressed already, bad posture as he sighed, taking his eyes back to the teacher.
"No, actually it's just Billie Joe," Billie Joe mumbled correcting my teacher.
"Right, Billie Joe Armstrong,"
Isn't he gorgeous?
He is, isn't he?
I smiled to myself as I watched him talking with the teacher. His voice was loaded with annoyance already and I already knew I liked him. Finally, after they finished speaking he was sat at the desk in front of me as my teacher carried on teaching. And I couldn't help myself.
"Oi, new kid!" I hushed over to him, I watched the back of his head spin as I was greeted with a warming and bright pair of emerald green eyes. They made me feel trapped the way they looked at me, as my breath hitched in my throat and I became tongue-tied for the first time In my life.
He's the one.
"Well hello there." He smirked glancing over at me. I still didn't say anything, scared my words would just be gibberish. And he saw that, and that made him smirk more. "What's wrong sweetheart? Cat got your tongue?"
Yeah, he is so the one.
Shut up he is not. I'm not even supposed to be talking to him right now.
"N-no!" I stammered embarrassed. First impressions ruined huh?
He smiled to himself. "Sure?"
"Yes-"
"-I'm Billie Joe Armstrong," He grinned charmingly looking over at me still.
Oh, I know.
I took in a deep breath. "I'm Payton Ives,"
"Ives," He repeated with a chuckle. "You've got the same second name as the principal here. Unlucky,"
"How so?"
"She's a bitch,"
"She's my mom,"
He automatically looked guilty as he began stuttering for his words. "Oh- I mean she's not- well- I meant that in a-"
"-It's okay, I agree with you anyway. You're right. She is a bitch,"
"You agree?"
I nodded.
"Oh... well would you look at that, you're pretty cool," He shrugged.
"I guess you're cool to say I'm not supposed to be talking to you,"
"You're not?"
"No, since my mom is the principal. She pulled me out of the lesson and kinda warned me to not talk to you. And two other kids. Like Frank and Micheal or something?"
He laughed slightly. "Ah, Tre and Mike,"
"Tre? I didn't say Tre?"
"No Tre is Frank. But don't ever call him Frank, he might kill you,"
"He might?"
He nodded, "So what happens if you are caught talking to any of the three of us?" He asked curiously.
Hard to explain briefly. "I'll get sent to another state,"
"Really? Are we that bad?"
"No, but I'm on my last chance for being sent into care because my moms fed up with my behaviour. So if she finds out even now I'm talking to you that's my last straw gone and I'm off," I explained to him.
"Wow, you're that bad?"
"Yeah," I nodded proud sort of. I take pride in my reputation and I guess you could say sometimes I liked having the 'bad kid rep'.
"So if it's that dangerous speaking to me why are you speaking to me now?" He asked.
"Well, I heard you were kicked out of your last school... and I'm kind of interested," I shrugged, trying not to say I'm only talking to him the fact that not only is he completely charming me away but I might be hypnotised by his eyes and I don't wanna look away.
"You are huh?" He smirked. "Interested in meeting Tre and Mike?"
But when I say I like to be known as a bad kid, maybe that was too dangerous to start hanging around with these kids. I mean I didn't exactly want to get sent to another state. But to say no would seem so rude, and I had a good feeling about Billie Joe.
It was weird, it was like my brain was saying:
Don't say yes you dick, are you begging to be sent to another fucking state?
But my heart, on the other hand, was saying:
Say yes, that's all. Just tell him yes.
"Sure, why not," I shrugged like I hadn't just debated that answer in my head and my brain was kicking me right now.
"Okay." He nodded, trying not to smile. "So how about the top field? We'll meet you there, y'know that park?" He asked. I did know that park. I knew it well. But no one went on it anymore, unless it was a hot day.
And I realised how he said y'know the way I did. No wonder my mom didn't like him.
"You're not gonna kidnap me or something are you,"
"Kidnap you?"
"I don't know... asking me to meet you at a park with your friends I don't know," I teased.
He rolled his eyes playfully. "I won't kidnap you dumbass. Now do you know that park or not?"
"Yeah, I know it, what time?"
"Six?"
"Sounds good Armstrong," I smiled.
"I'll see you then,"
~
I walked up to the park, it was near enough six and I was sort of, or very, nervous. After making a sloppy excuse to my mom that I was meeting a friend to help me with homework I was able to slip out of the house.
Once I got to the park I saw three boys, all sitting on the grass on the field beside the park. Then I spotted Billie Joe, who turned around as he saw me, jumping up and jogging over.
"You're here," He announced looking me up and down, I only had back jeans on and an old shirt I use to love tucked into it and a belt. Nothing spectacular.
"I am," I nervously confirmed with a throaty chuckle.
"Well," He smiled as his green eyes met mine. "Come on!" Billie Joe grabbed my hand and dragged me over to his other two friends sitting on the floor. Which I'm guessing were Micheal and Frank. But I was supposed to call them Mike and... Tre. Did Tre not mean very in Spanish?
"Well hello." One grinned jumping up to his feet and standing in front of me, staring into my soul with these big bright blue eyes. "I'm Tre, nice to meet ya,"
"Tre, does that not mean very?" I asked him, the question looming over me.
He nodded still smiling triumphantly. "It does, Tre cool,"
I nodded taking note before the other guy had gotten up on the floor too and was in front of me.
"I'm Mike," He smiled.
"Hi Mike, I'm Payton,"
"Isn't Payton a boy name?" Tre asked confused besides Mike, Mike quickly hit him in the arm. "Ow! Sorry! I was just asking,"
"Y'know she's not even supposed to be talking to us," Billie told them casually as they all sat back down on the grass, I looked down at Billie who patted the grass next to him. I sighed and sat down as Tre and Mike questioned me on what Billie had told them.
"You're not?" Mike asked surprised.
"What did we do?"
"Nothing, my mom is the principal of the school and I'm on my last chance on being sent to care in another state," I shrugged, I had been over this story a few times. "And she pulled me up and told me not to talk to any of the three of you or that's it,"
"That's it as in she's gonna send you to another state?" Mike asked listening closely as Tre nodded beside him also wanting to know the answer.
"Yeah,"
"Which state?"
"She won't tell me,"
"Wait wait wait!" Tre shouted putting his hand up in the air, I've just started talking and already lost this guy. "So if you're at the chance of getting put into care right now just by talking to us, then why are you?"
"Yeah, do you wanna go to care or something?" Mike questioned, not understanding either.
"Not at all, I'm just... I'm interested," I shrugged.
"Well, you're in for a ride if you're willing to take it," Billie announced elbowing me and glancing over as I looked back at him.
"I'll take it, but we got to be careful,"
And then it was, I was willing to just risk it like this for these three boys. I'm crazy. I'm stupid, but I don't take it back.
"I can be careful," He boasted slightly. "Careful is my middle name,"
I laughed slightly. "I would hope not, that would be a terrible choice to give a child a middle name,"
