Chapter 21: Smiles to Love

Hey y'all I am SO sorry that this took so long. I've just been really busy lately with school and other projects that I've been working on, and I've been distracted. Totally on me. I've also just had some trouble thinking of a good way to push the story further. I don't know if you've noticed, but this fic has a lot of details, and figuring out how to continue it in a unique, captivating, and creative way is rather difficult. Nontheless, here I am, and this is a chapter. A fluff one cuz y'all deserve it. This chapter hasn't been beta read, just so you know, so comment any errors and I'll edit it later.

Back to my corner I go.

Enjoy~

_

He doesn't know when, but he eventually fell victim to sleeps hungry clutches, relishing in the inky blackness of rest. There were no thoughts, no anxiety, just sleep.

Only to be disrupted when he felt a gently nudge on his arm.

That's weird.

Shigaraki just barges into his room and wakes him up by shouting and kicking him, he doesn't gently try to wake him.

So who?

Izuku rolled over under surprisingly soft sheets (did Kurogiri get him a new blanket?) and cracked his eyes open. His vision was still hazy with fatigue, but he could see the outline of a person crouching next to him.

"Midoriya-kun, wake up. I wanna show you something," A soft femanine voice whispered. He opened his eyes all the way, and saw Uraraka.

Quickly catching his brain up to the present (He was not there. He was safe) he sat up while wiping the sleep from his eyes. His blankets pool at his waist, and he internally cringes at the amount of sweat on his back, making his shirt stick to his skin.

Uraraka was smiling excitedly, basically vibrating with energy. It almost made a shiver go down his spine at what was in store for him in the next few hours. He felt sympathy for his guardian. "Yeah?" He whispered, trying not to wake the people around them. Kaminari rolled over in his sleep, and a groan escaped someone's lips.

What time was it again?

"Come with me. I have a surprise for you," She responded quietly and stood up. Then he noticed the plastic bag in her hand. Bounding for the open door, waved for him to follow him. Mentally preparing himself for his classmate's antics, he grabbed his pillow and shoes, and followed her outside.

He immediatly noticed, as his feet hit the dusty path, that the sun had barely risen, cracks of sunlight just making it over the horizon. It would be beautiful if he wasn't so exhausted. His heels hit the ground softly as he followed Uraraka to the eating area where she sat down at a table. Hesitantly, he sat across from her with his pillow in his lap.

She was still smiling at him, and it almost looked like she was glowing. She placed the plastic bag on the table in front of her, holding it shut with her hands (Keeping her pinkies lifted) and staring at him very intensly.

"I didn't know what to think of you when I first saw you," She began. Here we go. Izuku internally sighed, partly wishing he could go back to bed. "No one in class really did. We didn't know what to make of you, and when you joined the class, we were all really curious. And then we got to know you, and we've all grown attached somewhat. You probably don't intend it, but you make others around you happier. But you don't ever seem happy yourself."

It was at that point that Uraraka looked down, her smile dimming as she looked down at the bag in her hands, but then her eyes gained the same fiery determination that he saw at the mall before Shi- he came.

"I want you to be happy. We all want you to be happy. You filled the gap in our class that we didn't even know we had. You make Aizawa-sensei happier too, and Todoroki-kun uses his fire now, Tsuyu-chan became more open with me. Bakugo-kun is a bit calmer now, and Iida-kun isn't as tense. You just make everyone happy, and you don't even know it. You're kinda like All Might like that, you know?"

Reaching a hand in the bag, she pulled out an All Might figurine and a card, handing it to him gently. Scarred hands shakily met the smooth plastic, a beaming All Might smile shining up at him. He looked at the card, slowly opening it and reading it's contents.

The words "Thank you for being here" were written in the middle, surrounded by twenty one signitures. All of them from his classmates, and then the two extra being his guardians.

He didn't know he was crying until a tear fell of the card, wetting the paper.

Izuku hugged the All Might figure closer, tears rolling down his cheeks as he heaved softly. He hunched over, the figuring to his chest and his elbows resting on his pillow. Uraraka launched forward with a panicked expression, brows furrowed.

"Are you okay?! Do you not like it?"

Izuku sniffled, reigning in his tears, and looking up at her with stained cheeks. "No, I'm just happy." A shaky smile graced his lips, soft and fragile, but at the sight of it, Uraraka smiled too. She stood up, and crossed the table to hug him. Izuku wrapped his arms around her tightly, holding the girl close as he smiled.

It would need more work to be wider, but it was a start.

"Thank you," He whispered.

The day began in a rush with Aizawa blowing the blow horn on the class, and shimmying everyone out the door. 1-B looked equally as exhausted.

Izuku stuffed the card and the All Might figurine into his bag, the thought that people had done something so nice for him made him happy. The childish part of him wished he could take the All Might figure with him to training for the day.

He trained with Aizawa again, this time giving it his all knowing the man wasn't actually going to stab him. By noon, his back was sore from the amount of times he'd been flipped to the ground.

Climbing back to his feet, he resolved that he would beat Aizawa at least one time today. Just once.

His mentor and guardian smiled crookedly as he charged him, keeping low to the ground and light on his feet, just as he was taught. He jumped over Aizawa's foot as the man tried to trip him, and maneuvered himself behind the man's back.

Just as he was closing in, his target dropped to the ground like a sack of potatoes, and twisted on his back to face Izuku.

He didn't even have time to process as the man's feet connected with his exposed stomach, kicking him away until he was rolling on the ground to a stop.

Izuku groaned as he got to his knees.

"Better! Just don't leave yourself so open. Protecting your organs is important, kiddo. Move quick; you don't have the power of strength on your side. The best way to defeat an opponent who is bigger and stronger than you is agility, and fast thinking."

"I know that," Izuku grumbled as he spat the dirt out of his mouth.

"Come on, again," Aizawa got into stance.

Izuku climbed back to his feet, knife still gripped in his hand, but this time, he waited. He wouldn't strike first. This time, he would wait for an opening. He kept his eyes narrowed on his target as they both circled the clearing.

The man seemed to catch on, and eyed him warily with his own weapon in hand. "Did you get the present that Uraraka bought you? She spent a long time figuring out when to give it to you."

He was trying to distract him. Don't answer him.

"When she came up to me to ask me to sign her little card I wasn't the least bit suprised. This is Uraraka we're talking about. Just imagine what she'll be like when she graduates. She'll be an amazing hero. But you know, I heard her tell Asui that she wants to be a hero for money," The man continued, waiting for Izuku to strike so he could disarm him again.

He wouldn't fall for it.

"What do you think Stain would say if he heard? What would he try to do to her? Do you think she'd be able to protect herself?"

"Stop," He said.

"She's learning, but I don't think she'd be quick enough, she's not as fast as you or me, you know." The man said as he stalked around him.

"Stop it," Izuku grit his teeth to restain himself. He wouldn't.

"Where will you be if she ever gets in trouble. Nevermind that, what will happen to the All Might figurine in the future? Will it lose the value it has now?"

"I said stop!"

Seeing Izuku not taking the bait, the man rushed him, staying low to the ground so he wouldn't be tripped. Aizawa lashed his knife to the side up, and Izuku jumped back, letting his body fall until he had his hands under him and then pushed back up onto his feet in a crouch. He ran forward, meeting Aizawa head on, both dodging each others blows.

After minutes of trading blows (Izuku managed to get one on Aizawa's face, which he felt guily and proud of) Izuku finally managed to swipe his leg under the man, and trip his legs out from under him.

He seized the opening, and kicked Aizawa's knife from his hand, settling his own on Aizawa's throat. The pressure was very light, but his guardian stilled instantly, looking up at him with steady eyes. Izuku panted softly, slightly out of breath, and stood up.

"Good job, kid." Aizawa pulled himself to hid feet after him, grabbing his knife, and brushing himself off. "You didn't take the bait."

Izuku nodded, waiting for his next words.

His guardian looked up at the sky, the sun beginning to touch the west horizon, and pulled out his phone to check the time while rubbing at his now bruising jaw. "We should head back," He sighed. "It's getting late, and you and your classmates are making dinner again."

Training for the day was over then. That was fine, Izuku was tired, and there was a nasty bruise on his gut from being kicked back during the spar.

Just as he was beginning to make his way back to the lodge, Aizawa gently grabbed his arm, bring his attention back to him. "Just so you know; what I said earlier was only meant to provoke you into coming at me. I'm sorry."

"It's okay," Izuku said. "I can't become a hero if I get provoked easily."

"I'm still sorry."

A pause.

"I forgive you."

This was the second day of camp, and everyone was tired from the long day of training. Like yesterday, the food wasn't amazing, but it was filling enough that everyone could only eat half of their seconds.

Izuku held his new figurine in his hoodie pocket, fingers tracing around the edges. A small smile on his lips as he ate his food.

His classmates patted his back, some saying they were happy he was smiling now, others asking for tips on training. The thought of helping others the way he had always wanted made his smile more firm on his face, and he happily shared suggestions.

Uraraka sat by him for the remainder of the night, giving him a hug when it was time to go to bed.

"It suits you," She said as they walked up to the dorms.

"What does?" He asked.

"The smile. You look happy. And it makes me happy that you're happy. You are happy, right?" She looked at him.

"Yes. I'm happy. Thank you."

She beamed at him, wrapping him in yet another hug, arms laced around his torso, tightly, but still enough free room to pull away if he felt the need.

Izuku truly did have the most amazing friends.
