Blaire
When I very reluctantly returned home the next day, David, Mary-Margaret and Emma were setting up Christmas decorations. Christmas really snuck up on me this year. Usually I loved Christmas. It was the one time my mom, my dad and I were all together. now it just kind of bummed me out.
Emma looked at me, her eyes widened. "Blaire I need your help upstairs for just a minute." She said and took my hand pulling me up the stairs with her.
"Em, what the hell?" I asked.
Emma lead me over to my vanity and pointed out the hickey on my neck.
"Oh.. shit." I sighed and scrambled to find some make up to cover it.
"You and Wendy?" Emma raised an eyebrow "Not that theres anything wrong with it, she's just so shy I can't imagine her leaving that kind of mark."
"No.. No not Wendy but... I don't want to talk about it okay? Not even cousin code."
"Okay, you're lucky I caught it before Dad saw it. His job is questioning people, He'd have gotten it out of you."
He would have to kill me first.
"Yeah, thanks." I sighed as I covered up the hickey.
Way to warn a girl Jones...
"We saved the tree until you got home. Wanna come help?" Emma asked. I shook my head and sat down on my bed.
"Nah.. you guys go ahead. I'm not really feeling it right now."
"Oh God don't tell my dad he's the most holly jolly person I've ever seen around this time. You'll break his heart if you tell him you don't like Christmas."
"I love Christmas... just.. Its difficult right now Em." I shrugged. "My reasons for loving Christmas are gone." I sighed.
Emma frowned.
"Maybe we can help give you new reasons?" She asked.
"Yeah.. maybe just not right now, please?" I asked.
"Sure." She nodded. "See you later okay?"
"Yeah later." I nodded and flopped backwards against my bed as Emma left the room.
My phone pinged and I pulled it out of my pocket.
KJ:
Hows home?
Me:
I'm in holly jolly hell. Miss you already.
KJ:
You could always just come back.
Me:
Not going to chance it after the texas sized hickey you left on my neck sir.
KJ:
Maybe don't call me sir like that Miss Nolan. Oops.
Me:
Yeah Oops.
KJ:
I gotta go Liam is here to help me pack. I'll text you later to see how Holly Jolly Hell is going.
Me:
Okay ttyl <3
-------------------------------------------------------
When I walked down stairs I looked at the tree. It was fully decorated except for the topper. I looked around the tree at all the handmade ornaments from Emma over the years. My mom used to put mine on the tree too. My eyes welled a little as I came to an Ornament that was light blue, with a blue topaz stone in it. It said Blaire and, baby's first Christmas. They really had meant for me to be with them all those years ago. They were excited for me to be with them. They prepared. My birthday was December 28th so my first Christmas with them would have been right before my first birthday..while I was in Oregon.
"See. You were always meant to be here." David said as he came up behind me.
"I guess I was." I sniffled. "I love my mom and I do love my dad but.. This..here, This is what I've always wanted. Someone who wanted me. Someone I didnt have to jump over hurdles to impress to get any sort of positive reaction from. Someone who I didn't need approval from. My mom always had to work. I know she loved and wanted me, but I never got to see her. It was always my dad." I sighed. "Did he love me?"
"He did, he just wasn't ready for you Blaire. He wanted us to have you so he could still be in your life but your mother wanted to keep you. We had to let you go with her and I'm sorry."
"Its not your fault." I shook my head. I wiped my eyes a little and looked up at the top of the tree.
"Wheres the Star?" I asked.
"Well, every year Emma puts it up. It was meant to alternate every year with the two of you, so this year is your turn." David smiled and picked up the gold star off the counter and handed it to me. I smiled and stood on my toes trying to put the star up but it was lopsided.
"Don't fix it, its fine the way it is." David said and I knew he was talking about more than the star.
---------------------------------------------------------------
The next day I sat in my room watching Rudolph, the misfits song always reminded me of Kass and I because we'd run around my house or hers singing it as kids. I missed her like crazy.
"Blaire!" David hollered from down stairs. I sighed and got up and walked out of my room.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Come down for a minute." He said. "Get your coat."
I walked down the stairs and grabbed my coat and slipped my snow boots on.
"Can I cover your eyes? Its a surprise." David smirked.
I raised an eyebrow at him but nodded. David put his hands over my eyes and guided me outside and onto the porch.
"I Know its a few days from Christmas but.. This couldn't wait." David said and moved his hands.
I gasped at my truck in the driveway. I ran over to it and ran my hands over the sides of it.
"How did you manage to get her here?" I asked as I grinned so wide I thought I'd hurt my cheeks.
"Sean helped." David smiled.
"Kassidy's Dad?" I asked as I walked along the back of the truck completely unprepared for the curly blonde headed demon to pop up and scream
"Boo!" At me. I screeched and slipped on the ice.
"Shit!" Kassidy laughed and jumped out of the back of my truck and crouched down to me.
"Kass??" I gasped.
"The one and only." Kassidy grinned. I screeched again and hugged her. Kassidy hugged me back
"B, I can't breathe." She wheezed. I let her go and grinned at her.
"How even??" I asked.
"Oh We've been planning this with your uncle since Thanksgiving. Dad's getting a room at the bed and Breakfast but your uncle said I can stay in your room with you."
"Hell yeah you can! How long are you staying??"
"Until after Christmas!" Kassidy grinned.
"Yes!" I grinned and stood up and ran to David throwing myself at him in a hug.
"Thank you Uncle David." I said.
"You're welcome Blaire. Why don't you show Kass around town?"
"Of course!" I said. "Come on!"
"Blaire you're still in your pajamas." David reminded me.
"Oh!" I said and took Kassidy's hand and pulled her with me into the house.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
After showing Kass pretty much all of the town we stopped into Granny's for some hot chocolate to go, and as we were leaving we bumped into someone coming in.
"Oh I'm sorry." I said and looked up at Killian.
"Mr. Jones." I said.
"Miss Nolan." He smiled. "Enjoying Christmas break?"
"Yes. How about you?"
"Aye. Its been quite nice so far." He gave me a knowing smile and I had to try not to blush.
"So this is a new face." Killian said looking at Kassidy.
"Oh! Duh, this is my friend Kassidy Cole from Oregon." I said. "Kass, this is my history teacher Mr. Jones."
Kassidy shook his hand.
"Pleasure to meet you Miss Cole, will I be seeing you after break then?" Killian asked.
"You wish." Kassidy smirked. "Just visiting though."
"Well enjoy the rest of your visit Miss Cole, I will let you two go."
"See ya Mr. Jones." Kassidy winked and I grabbed Kassidy's hand and pulled her awkwardly away from Killian.
My. Killian.
My phone pinged in my pocket While I was showing Kass the rest of the town over by O'Malleys and I took it out to see who texted me.
KJ: Can you meet me in the clock tower? I want to see you.
"Ooooo Who's KJ?" Kass asked.
I quickly tucked my phone in my pocket.
"Some guy.." I shrugged.
"Some guy who wants you to meet him in the clock tower?" Kassidy asked.
"Yes?" I questioned.
"Well.. I mean I do have to go meet with Dad at the B&B so you are free to meet this KJ in the clock tower for a bit." Kassidy winked. "I want details later."
I grinned.
"Go on go meet up with him." Kassidy chuckled.
"Thank you Kass." I smirked. "You're the best."
"I know I am. Have fun B. Not too much fun!" She called after me as I was already on my way to the clock tower.
I walked into the library and hurried past the librarian to the stairs to the clock tower and practically flew up them. I opened the door to the tower and Killian was already waiting inside for me. I shut the door and ran to him.
"Whoa!" He chuckled as my body collided into his." I took him to the floor and kissed his face.
"Hello Jonesy." I smirked.
"Someone is happy to see me." Killian chuckled. "Its only been a day."
"Thats a long time when you miss someone." I smiled.
"I gotta get used to this sweet side of yours." Killian smirked.
The door creaked and Killian and I both looked towards it at Kassidy walking in the room.
"Yes! I KNEW IT!" Kassidy exclaimed and shut the door leaning against it.
I stood up quickly.
"Kass.." I said.
"Blaire Nolan you got some 'splainin to do." Kassidy smirked.
"I'm confused are you not upset?" Killian asked.
"Oh no, why would I be upset?" Kassidy asked. "I figured it out I'm thrilled!"
"Well because I'm..you know what gift horses and all..." Killian shrugged.
"Because you're her teacher and she's your student? Nah that doesn't have shit to do with me. If Blaire is happy I am happy, if Blaire isn't happy, I can make things look like an accident really quick." Kassidy turned to Killian and narrowed her eyes.
"Blaire is happy..down Kass." I chuckled nervously. "How exactly did you find out?"
"Back in Oregon, you got a call from Killian Jones. I saw his name and picture and when you introduced me to Mr. Jones I instantly recognized him. Then when I saw the text from KJ I put two and two together and Wam Bam my best friend is Hot for Teacher!" Kassidy grinned.
"Well quite frankly Miss Cole, I don't know whether to be terrified or impressed by your impeccable detective work." Killian said. "I'm sure you understand me, being as nervous as I am."
"Oh for sure. Your secret is safe with me. I just wasn't letting Blaire think I had no clue." Kassidy smirked.
"That's 100 percent Kassidy Cole right there." I sighed.
"Yup. So you two enjoy your little clocktower rendezvous and I will go meet my dad at the bed and breakfast. See you later B. and Killian.. Remember what I said. I watch nothing but ID network buddy."
"Duly noted." Killian chuckled.
Kassidy left and I sighed and sat down.
"So thats Kass." I said.
"She's..something that lass." Killian smirked.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Kass and I were at the Mall doing some Christmas shopping and I had finished all of mine except for what I was going to get Killian.
"I have no idea what to get him." I sighed heavily.
"Maybe a cologne? What about this one?" Kassidy asked and sprayed a cologne practically in my face.
I gagged a little and shook my head.
"No, that smells like douchey fruit loops. Besides I like the way Killian smells. He smells like leather, and coffee, maybe a bit of spearmint from the gum he chews to get rid of the cigarette smoke on his breath." I smiled.
"Girl...you are one sick puppy." Kassidy laughed.
"Hush.." I mumbled and blushed and looked over at a Kiosk where people could sign up for beach cabin rentals in Portland for New Years eve. Killian loved beach cabins and it would be a good way for the two of us to spend time together away from all this.
"I know what I'm getting Killian." I grinned.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Christmas Eve
I was thankful that David told George if he couldn't say anything nice to not come for Christmas so he actually stayed home. Grandma Ruth came though and that made me happy. Even though my dad did some fucked up things, she always managed to say something nice about him. Even though he really didn't deserve it.
After dinner I was trying to think of a way to get out and go to Killan's to give him his gift.
"Since Kass is leaving tomorrow morning would it be okay if I went over to the B&B with her and Sean?" I asked David.
"I don't see why not just text me to keep me posted on when you plan on coming home." David smiled.
"Awesome Thank you!" I grinned and grabbed my coat and slipped on my boots and hurried out the door after Kassidy.
"Hey I'm going to come with you guys for a bit." I said. I figured I'd spend more time with Kass and then on my way back I'd see Killian.
"Sure." Kassidy grinned knowing exactly what I was up to.
---------------------------------------------------------
After watching Rudolph with Kass like we always did, and getting a sugar high from hot chocolate and Christmas cookies from Ruby's grandmother, I made my way to Killians house. Texting him to make sure it was safe first.
KJ:
Liam, Ari and Bastion just left, come on over. ;)
Me: Omw gimmie like 3 minutes.
KJ:
Don't be late Miss Nolan.
Me:
Don't tempt me Mr. Jones.
I turned the corner onto Mifflin street and Gods be damned if I didn't run the rest of the way to Killian's house. I knocked on the door and Killian opened it, surprised to see me.
"You said three minutes."
"I ran." I grinned.
"Well come inside its freezing out here." Killian smiled and brushed snowflakes out of my hair as I walked inside. He took my coat and hung it up.
"Oh! Wait!" I said and dug in my coat pocket.
"I got this for Captain." I said and tossed a squeaky bone toy to Captain who went wild with it right away.
"I got something for you too." I smiled.
"You didn't have to get me anything Blaire." Killian smirked "But speaking of, I got you something too. Have a seat."
I sat down on the couch while Killian left the room. The house seemed emptier now with most of his stuff either at the new apartment or, in storage and I knew next time I spent time with him it would be in his new place. Killian came back into the room with a happy birthday gift bag and a big box that was wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper.
"Excuse the paw patrol I mostly bought for Bastion this year." Killian chuckled.
"Its fine." I laughed. "How did you know my birthday was this month?"
"I knew you'd never tell me, so I looked at your file." Killian said sheepishly.
I raised my eyebrow at him and smirked.
"Fair enough." I said.
"You open yours first." He urged me as he sat down next to me excitedly. It was really cute.
I opened the christmas gift first and grinned. It was a portable victrola and A Bruce Springsteen record. I giggled at the memory.
"Oh My Gods I got a giggle." Killian laughed.
"That does not happen often. Cherish it." I smirked. "Thank you, this is really sweet."
"Of course love." Killian smiled. "Now the other one." he said. I laughed and shook my head as I opened the gift bag. I gasped as I pulled out a graphics tablet and a case with my name on it.
"Killian...no I can't." I shook my head. I'd always wanted one of these for my drawing.
"Yes you can. You'll need that in New York!" Killian grinned. "Please accept it."
"O...okay." I said and turned to him and wrapped my arms around him in a hug.
"Thank you so much." I said.
"You're welcome love. I can't wait to see what you do with it."
"Okay now you." I said and went back to my jacket. "I didn't really have a way to gift wrap this." I said and handed him the paper with the rental confirmation on it and the brochure of the cabins.
"I wanted something we could do together away from everyone here. Its for New Years eve." I said.
"Blaire this is exactly what I've wanted and exactly what we both need." Killian grinned and pulled me to him with a breathtaking kiss.
"I'm glad you like it." I smirked against his lips.
"Mmm I love it. Can you stay?" He asked.
"I'll tell David I'm staying with Kass." I bit my lip and pulled out my phone to text David.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Blaires Birthday
"Its kind of a bummer O'Malley has you working on your birthday." David sighed.
"Yeah, I guess?" I shrugged. "My birthday has always kinda been just another day so I'm fine with it. What I don't understand is why everyone is coming with me to work?" I asked.
"Lunch." Emma smirked. "We're hungry Blaire."
"Ah." I nodded. "Well I recommend the cheese fries they're life." I smirked as David parked the car. We all got out and I looked at the building.
"The lights are off. Its noon. Thats odd." I said and walked to the door and tried to open it but it was locked. I sighed and put my key in the door and unlocked it. I opened the door and started inside.
"May go to Granny's its going to take ages for me to set everything up on my own if I'm the only one-"
The lights flipped on.
"Surprise!"
I jumped probably almost to the ceiling as my soul left my body. Thomas, Jacob, Will, Lizard, Wendy, and a few other people from School including Ruby and Gina were standing there with a cake, the whole place was filled with Balloons and streamers.
"Holy..shit." I mumbled and dropped my keys.
"You didn't think I'd really make you work on your birthday without a party right?" Thomas chuckled.
"Well honestly? Yeah I had no idea." I laughed and then looked at the mountain of cheese fries beside the cake.
"Yeah just put the candles in that." I grinned and everyone else erupted into laughter.
After the party I decided to stay and work because why not? Halfway through my shift Jacob hollered across the dining room to me.
"Blaire you have a phone call!" He said.
"Okay." I sighed wondering who the hell would call me here. I walked over and Jacob handed me the work phone.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Happy birthday sweetheart." My dad said on the other end and my heart dropped into my stomach.
"Dad.." I said.
"Its been a while." Dad said.
"Yeah.. I know theres a reason for that." I said and went to hang up.
"Don't hang up on me Blaire Please." his voice cracked and I sighed.
"How much time do they give you?" I asked.
"30 minutes." He replied.
"I'm giving you 5. Make it count."
"Don't be mad at your uncle Dave he let it slip that you were working here."
"I'm sure you didn't manipulate the answer out of him or anything." I scoffed.
"I didn't Blaire." Dad said. "Whats that old Alley Cat O'Malley up to these days?"
"Rebuilding a business that you may or may not have burned to the ground.." I replied.
"I didn't do that Blaire." Dad sighed.
"Did you kill my mother?" I asked.
"Do you honestly think I did?" Dad asked me back "Think really hard on that Blaire."
"I don't know Dad. It all points to you."
"I know it does, thats how a frame job works but I would happily sit in here and rot letting them think I did it than put your life in danger by going against the person who did."
"You...know who did it?"
"I know because I was there. But I can't tell you Blaire I'm sorry it had to come to this but its for the best."
"You are full of shit how am I supposed to believe a word you say!" I hissed.
"Trust me." Dad pleaded.
"I can't. Don't call me again." I said and hung up the phone. I tossed the phone on the counter, breaking it before sitting down behind the bar with my knees pulled up to my chest sobbing.
Jacob hurried over to me and crouched down.
"Blaire what happened??" He asked.
"It was my dad." I choked out. Jacob sighed and sat down next to me.
"That man seems to know how to ruin everything." He said. "I'm sorry Blaire. Do you want to talk about it?"
"No." I replied. "I'm going to go home. I'll come back tomorrow. I just need some quiet to clear everything up." I mumbled and stood up and took off my apron and put it on the counter.
"Its going to be okay Blaire." Jacob smiled. There was something about his smile that was unsettling and I couldn't figure out what it was.
"Sure." I nodded "Sorry about the phone.. I'll replace it with my paycheck." I said.
"Don't worry, I got it." Jacob shrugged. "Go home and clear your head." he added and nodded towards the door.
-----------------------------------------------------
I laid on the couch watching TV with Bowie curled up beside my head.
"I'm sorry Blaire, I shouldn't have let it slip." David apologized.
"Its fine. Now he knows I really don't want to speak to him." I said.
"Don't worry, I called the prison and he's lost his phone privileges for a while."
"Good." I nodded.
"Are you okay?" David asked.
"Honestly, my insides feel like they're still shaking." I said.
"Want some tea? Or cocoa?" David asked.
"No, I feel like if I eat or drink I'll puke. I just need time Uncle David." I said. "I didn't expect it, is all. But He's always known just how to rattle my cage. Its what he does." I added.
"I blame George, he was always hard on James for no reason at all. Our father died when we were toddlers and our mother married George when we were 5. George and James are so much a like now that they can't stand each other." David sighed.
"Makes sense after meeting George I can totally understand why my dad is such a colossal asshole..." I said. David chuckled.
"How did you escape the assholery?" I asked.
"I had my mother. I got my personality from her."
"Also makes sense, she's so sweet I get a toothache every time she's near." I smiled a little. My phone pinged on the coffee table and I sighed and looked at it.
KJ:
Happy birthday love, hope today is going well for you.
Me:
It was fine until my Dad called.
KJ:
Ouch..I'm sorry thats awful. if you want to come over and talk about it, I just got settled into the new place.
Me:
I'm okay, I'm chilling with Bowie and watching slasher films.
KJ: Bowie?
It occurred to me I never told Killian about Bowie. I lifted my phone to take a selfie of me and bowie on the couch and sent it to him.
KJ:
How cute. The kitten too. ;) Just so you know, Captain loves cats. He snuggles them.
Me:
Funny. ;) I'll keep that in mind. Bowie is hesitant around dogs we just got him used to Wilby. I'm going to finish my movie and I'll text you later <3 So ready for our New Years Eve trip.
KJ:
Aye. Me too. Talk to you later, enjoy your movie and the rest of your day.
I set my phone back down and looked back at the tv.
"How do you watch these so often?" David chuckled.
"The same way you watch Hallmark movies knowing they all end the same." I smirked.
"Fair enough. Well birthday girl what do you want for dinner tonight?" David asked.
"Mulan's sounds good. Take out." I smiled.
"Can do." David smiled back. "We'll save your birthday somehow."
"Sweet and sour chicken can save a lot of things." I chuckled and snuggled into Bowie.
--------------------------------------------------------------
New Years Eve
Emma and I were both going out for New Years Eve so David had us in the living room giving what had been a 30 minute lecture so far about watching out for drunk drivers, and no partying or drinking for us.
"Dad, I'm going to Ruby's Granny would never let us and Blaire is going to Wendy's. Can you imagine her parents ever letting them do that?"
"No." David sighed. "Its just my job to worry about you two. Keep your phones on, I will call to check in. Have fun and please stay safe both of you." David smiled.
"We will." Emma smiled and hugged David. "See you tomorrow night Dad."
I stood up and hugged him too.
"See ya Uncle Dave. Same as Emma tomorrow night." I said.
"See you two tomorrow." David said and we were free.
Emma leaned against her bug.
"You really going to Wendy's?" She asked.
"Nope." I shrugged. "You really going to Ruby's?"
"Nope." Emma smirked. "Neal is taking me somewhere said it was a surprise. Who are you spending New Years with?"
"Its a surprise?" I shrugged.
"Come on, Cousin code?" Emma pleaded.
"Not yet Em. Maybe soon." I said and opened my truck door. "Have fun with Neal." I said as I got in the truck.
--------------------------------------------------------
We took Killian's car because the windows were tinted so no one would see us. The short road trip consisted mostly of listening to classic rock, air guitar, and belting out lyrics like nobody's business. Except Killian could actually sing and that made him all the more attractive.
When we got to the cabins and all checked in we both breathed a sigh of relief. One night away from Storybrooke where we wouldn't have to worry about being caught. Killian looked at me and grinned devilishly before picking me up and carrying me to the bed, with me giggling the whole way.
We'd pretty much spent most of the night attached at the hips. I ordered some grub hub for us because I was starving and didn't want to leave but it had been forever since I ordered and the order hadn't shown up.
Finally there was a knock on the door and Killian kissed me on the cheek. "I think your food is here love." He chuckled.
"Thank fuck I'm starving." I smirked.
"You and that mouth of yours." Killian raised an eyebrow.
"You know you love it." I winked and got out of bed and threw a robe on to answer the door. When I opened the door my eyes widened it was Emma
"Hey so I think your food came to my- Blaire??" Emma gasped.
"Uh... hey. So I guess this is where Neal took you to surprise you?"
Surprised the fuck outta me too Cassidy, you really shouldn't have.
"Yeah. Odd how we both ended up here." Emma smirked trying to peek inside.
"Is it the food or not love?" Killian asked coming to the door.
"Holy.. shit." Emma said. "Holy Shit!" She repeated and dropped the food.
"Oh my God my Burrito." I frowned and then looked back at Emma who looked like she was going to pass out. Killian looked like he would too.
"So.. uh.. Cousin Code?" I chuckled nervously.
