Prologue

2023  Westview, New Jersey

CHRISTIAN ROGERS DIDN'T REMEMBER HOW HE ENDED UP IN THE TOWN OF WESTVIEW. All he knew was that he lived in a new town, Wanda was there, and everything was in black and white, but he couldn't remember how he got there. He looked down and saw the wedding ring on his finger, but he wondered, when did he get married? Not that he minded being married since Wanda is the love of his life, but he thought he would remember the proposal and the wedding.

Did his parents know he was in Westview? He thought that he surely would've told them and his twin sister. He knew that Westview was in New Jersey, and his parents and Amaya are in Brooklyn, so they're not that far away, but did they know that Christian was here? As Christian looked around his new world, he was curious about why everything was in black and white. He's never seen in black and white before.

So why was he now?

The thought was quickly shaken from his head when he walked into his newfound kitchen and was met with a plate to the side of his head. Completely unbothered, he looked up at Wanda and smiled. "My wife and her flying saucers." He said.

"My husband and his seemingly indestructible head," Wanda said.

"Well, aren't we a fine pair?" Christian asked as he walked over to her and dropped a kiss on her forehead, making Wanda laugh.

"What do you say to silver dollar pancakes, crispy hash browns, bacon, eggs, freshly squeezed orange juice, and black coffee?" Wanda asked.

"I'd say, are there more than the two of us living here?" Christian asked as Wanda walked over to the fridge and opened it up to see nothing was in there.

"Well, the fridge is empty anyway!" She exclaimed as she shut the door, which made Christian laugh, and then he noticed the calendar on the wall, and a specific date was circled.

"Wanda?" He asked.

"Hmm?" She responded.

"Is there something special about today?" Christian asked.

"Well, I know the apron is a bit much, dear, but I am doing my best to blend in." She said as she walked over to him and Christian shook his head before pointing over to the calendar.

"No, no, there on the calendar. Someone's drawn a little heart right above today's date." Christian said as she turned around, and he walked up behind her and laid his hands down on her shoulders.

"Oh, yes, the heart. Well, don't tell me you've forgotten, Chris." Wanda said as she turned around.

"Forgotten? Wanda, I have an eidetic memory. I remember everything." Christian said as he shrugged his shoulders.

"Well, then, tell me what's so important about today's date," Wanda said. That's when Christian fell silent because the feeling was back. When he tried to think about his life, think about his relationship with Wanda. When he tried to think about anything, it was as if someone put up a mental block inside his mind.

He couldn't remember anything.

"What was the question again?" He asked as he shook his head and turned away. "Oh, well, perhaps you've forgotten yourself." He said.

"Me? Heavens, no. I've been so looking forward to it." Wanda said.

"As have I..." Christian responded as he folded his arms across his chest. "Today, we are celebrating..." He said as he walked over to the island at the center of the kitchen.

"You bet we are," Wanda said as she approached on the opposite side, so they were facing each other. "It's the first time we..." She trailed off as Christian put his hands down on the counter and leaned forward.

"Mhm-mmm."

"... Have you ever celebrated this occasion before," Wanda said as she started to deflect.

"It's a... special day," Christian said.

"Perhaps an evening..."

"Of great significance..."

"To us both!"

"Well, naturally..." Christian said. The two of them were leaning in closer with every word they said.

"Obviously."

"Exactly," Christian said as they leaned in for a quick kiss. "Well done, us. Alright, well, that's me off to work, then." Christian said even though he couldn't remember when and how he even got a job, he just knew that he had to work. "Have a good day, Wanda." He blew her a kiss before he walked out, and he had no idea.

Things were going to get even weirder.

Things did get weirder for the young Rogers. He saw Vision, and he didn't remember why it was strange for him to see Vision, but when he saw Vision, he knew something was right, but later, the next time he saw Vision, he saw other synthezoids with Vision. So Vision had his own family? And Christian didn't know how they got there. Who made them? Did Vision make them himself?

But things got even weirder that evening when he and Wanda hosted his boss and his boss' wife for dinner. He kept harboring them with questions. How long have they been together, when they got married, and why they moved to town? Questions that Christian couldn't think of answers for. Christian didn't know when they moved there; he didn't know when they married; he couldn't remember anything.

And each time his boss asked a question, his voice got louder and louder, which only grew Christian's confusion. He was wondering if they were somewhere they weren't supposed to be. Then his boss started to choke, and it seemed as if he wasn't stopping. The four of them sat around the table in confusion until Wanda finally told Christian to help him.

And then it was as if it never happened.

When they left, Christian noticed that Wanda had also brushed past the moment as if nothing had happened, and she used her powers to make wedding rings for the two of them. Christian still felt uneasy about what had happened at dinner, but there wasn't much he could say or do about it now.

He just had to see where things would go from here.

A few days later, he and Wanda participated in a fundraiser in Westview and did a magic act. Christian noticed that they kept saying the fundraiser was for the children. Still, since he and Wanda had been in Westview, he hadn't seen any children at all, so he was questioning who the fundraiser was actually for, if not for the children as they claim, but children they never see.

Every day that went by, Christian had a more vigorous feeling that something was wrong. The act for the fundraiser went off with a hit, but Christian had that uneasy feeling again when everyone yelled out, 'For the Children,' since there were no children. Until later that night when Christian noticed something.

Wanda was pregnant.

And things were going to get even weirder.

Sorry, this prologue sucks. The first two episodes are really introductory, and episode three is where things really pick up, so the next chapter will be better.

Don't forget to vote/comment.
