Chapter 18: Coming Together
Stampy couldn't help but give Stacy the cold shoulder when he saw her appear all of a sudden. After everything that's happened over the past few days... or months... even years. And yet after what he saw in that crystal ball... all he could think of was why?
"I'm so sorry..." Lizzie mumbled, her head on Stacy's shoulder.
Stacy growled and pushed Lizzie away. "Don't touch me! Traitor!"
Lizzie had some tears forming in her eyes, but she was holding them back. Julia leaned over to Moon Moon's ear and asked, "What's happening?"
"I don't know, I'm just as lost as you," Moon Moon whispered back.
"I didn't mean to shoot you..." Lizzie said, turning around and pointing at Stampy. "I meant to shoot him!"
"Excuse me?" Stacy said bluntly.
"You said you knew she was a werewolf... why did you try to shoot me, Lizzie?" Stampy asked.
"I was aiming for you... right between the eyes, it should've been a perfect shot... but Stacy got in the way. So I lied and said I knew she was a werewolf... I guess I was right but I didn't mean to kill her!" Lizzie explained.
"You had silver bullets... HOW DID YOU NOT NOTICE?" Stacy shouted, causing Moon Moon and Julia to hide behind the Aether dragon.
Lizzie sighed and had a look of distress on her face. She had no idea what was happening anymore. "I don't know... I guess we lived peacefully for so long I... I just don't know what's happening anymore. Why would I kill my best friend? Stacy, you didn't know this but I was dead too. Someone killed me and I was stuck in that Inferno too. I can't predict the future, and apparently, Cassie can. I just want to go back in time, and stop all of this from happening. I would've been fine living with werewolves, but when they start killing my friends. That's one thing I can't accept. So let's just calm down and try to find out what Ein is doing. Alright?"
Everyone was silent and no one made a sound. You could hear the beat of dragon wings from the outside, and roaring along with other creature sounds in the distance. Stacy had an angry look on her face, but it turned into a smile when she looked at Stampy. Though he wishes that he could do the same.
"Is everyone done arguing now?" Moon Moon asked. "Can we come out?"
"I don't know why you hid in the first place, but yes. It's safe." Romeo said.
"Romeo? You're dead! I saw you get hanged right in front of me!" Stacy gasped.
Romeo simply chuckled and nodded slightly to Stampy. "Well, he was my way out. So thank him that I'm alive."
The tensions died down and everyone started to talk, but Stampy just stayed isolated from the rest of the group. Sometimes he would overhear something that would make him clench his fists, and that eventually caused his left arm (specifically his shoulder) to hurt. I fought Grazer over her. Why did I even do that? Was that even real? Am I real? It all seemed so simple with the easy magic and werewolves. Now there's dark magic, prophecy pools... what's real and what isn't? Was what I saw through the crystal ball real or just an illusion? Please, Notch... let that be an illusion... Stampy thought.
I wonder how Grazer is back home. I wonder how New Growler is. Olivia is probably confused but she'll be happy to see Axel again. Where is Axel anyway? I should find Lukas, he would be proud of everything Radar is doing for the town. At least that's what Olivia told me. Maybe once Ein is stopped... I could help out with the town. Now that Cassie's back she'll probably want her shop back as well. So much is happening so quickly, it's almost insane. No. Seeing Stacy kiss Ein is insane.
"You alright Stampy?" A female voice asked.
Stampy looked around and when someone tugged on his shirt he remembered to look down and he saw Dawson. Sometimes he still forgets how tall he is. "I'm fine. Just a little homesick."
Dawson gave Stampy a look. A look that basically said 'It's about Stacy isn't it?' and he nodded in response. "You know," she said, "you can just talk to her? She's right there, you can ask her what you saw in the crystal ball."
When Stampy looked away at the girl, Dawson grumbled and went over to Ashton the Aether dragon. The dragon which Stacy flew in on was having a pleasant conversation with Cassie, which Stampy couldn't help but overhear.
"So Stormmover, how's Tao? The last time I saw her she was about up to your elbow." Cassie asked.
"She's a smart one, just like me. But tends to have a tantrum time to time, thanks to her mother." The blue dragon, Stormmover, answered.
"You throw a tantrum every now and again too! Don't act like your so perfect, Chief!" Cassie argued.
Stormmover chuckled and lowered her head to that she could see eye to eye with her friend. "You're right. But everyone is always hiding things from me. Raindrop is hiding important scrolls, and Tao was hiding this Aether dragon for all I know! I mean come on Cassie, he's a male."
"I heard that!" Ashton barked. Though the two ignored him and he went back to watching Julia trying to climb onto his back by gripping onto his feathers. Dawson watched in amusement as her friend climbed the great beast.
Stampy looked over to his left, which was closer to the windows, and he saw Lizzie sitting with her back against the wall, and her head in her knees. Moon Moon was trying to comfort her but he just ended up letting her pet his head.
It was when Romeo's wolf ears perked up is when Stampy started to care what was happening around him. "Hide!" Romeo shouted and all the humans (and werewolves) hid behind the dragons. Stampy having to cover Julia's necklace with his hands because it was glowing an ugly lime green color.
"Quiet," said a new voice.
"I am quiet! You be quiet!" Said another.
"Will you both shut up?" Asked a female voice.
"I agree. But really Petra? Tungumál!" Saif the fourth voice.
And a final voice spoke, "We don't speak your language, Yin."
As the voices approached and turned the corner they suddenly became people and dragons. Two dragons, one Steel the other Ice. And three humans, two males, and one female. Though that was all a quick glance.
"Who are you?" Asked the Steel Dragon. "Why are you here?"
When Stormmover saw the dragons she relaxed. "Oh, it's you. Rocky right? Don't mind us, we're just having a friendly conversation. What are you doing with humans?"
"None of your concern." Said the Ice Dragon, Yin.
"I think it is. Wow, I'd never thought I would meet a prince in person!" Said Ashton.
"You know who I am?" Yin asked.
"I know who a lot of dragons are!" Ashton gloated.
"Stop, what's going on here?" Asked one of the male humans.
"Well since they have humans..." Ashton thought aloud. He backed up and revealed Stampy, Julia, Dawson, and Romeo. Stormmover did the same and revealed the others.
Not even a second passed before the humans ran over to the group and gave free hugs. One of the humans was Dan and you could hear him saying "Mom!" While he trampled her.
The other two where Lukas and Petra. Petra giving Stampy a pat on the back, while Lukas was glaring at Romeo. "How? We killed you! I felt like I just said this..."
"Magic. Now how are you here? I missed a lot... oh you know... because you killed me!" Romeo shouted.
"Hey, leave Lukas alone! He was doing what had to be done for New Growler!" Petra argued.
"Guys come on, werewolf or human isn't what matters right now. It's what a certain werewolf is about to do." Dan said, stopping the argument.
"Dan," Romeo whispered, "your ears."
Dan gave his former alpha a perplexed look. "What about my ears? Oh... oh god..." His wolf features were out for all to see. He tried to cover them up before it was too late, it was also then Lukas and Petra noticed Moon Moon and Stacy's ears.
"How many werewolves are disguised as our friends?" Petra asked herself.
"A lot. Stella and Aiden were also werewolves... and Ellegard... and Magnus and Axel... Xara... There where a lot of us..." Stacy explained.
"And all hidden in plain sight... cleaver... well I hope your all happy because Ein is now the top dog here!" Lukas yelled.
"Don't blame us!" Dan argued. "Blame Aiden. He brought Ein to the den."
"Enough!" Rocky roared. Everyone almost forgot he was there due to his vow of silence. "Enough with this Werewolf business. How about we leave you adults to figure this out yourselves and we take the kids to the throne room. You can find us with Gabriel in there."
Most of them nodded in agreement. No need to get the children wrapped up in their mess. Lizzie decided to go with them as well because Ein wasn't her problem. So Julia, Dawson, Moon Moon, and Lizzie sat quietly on Ashton's back and the dragons left around the corner. No other sounds could be heard except distant roaring, the clacking of talons on the stone floor (despite there being a rug), wings beating due to the dragons in the city, and some chatter coming from a room not too far from where the creatures stood.
"So," Cassie started. "Since it's just us I'll admit it. I killed Lizzie that day. It was me. Guilty."
"Lizzie died shortly after you passed on. Cassie, I know I hate her but why?" Stampy asked.
"I... let's not talk about it. We were all going through some tough times. Mine just happened to be depression alright? But I'm fine now, I'm half fairy but it's cool." Cassie said.
"You're a fairy?" Petra asked.
"Let's not focus on that right now. Ein, remember? Bad guy, we got to kill him." Cassie said, trying to bring everyone back to their mission.
"Right. Thank you, Cassie." Lukas thanked his head now back in the game. "So how do we kill an all-powerful werewolf with a book full of dark magic?"
"Oh, I can think of a few ways. A hanging would be nice." Romeo suggested.
"Would that even work? The stories say his immortal. He was born under a full moon." Dan said, correcting his alpha.
"What does that have to do with anything?" Stampy asked, he still wasn't fully sure how werewolves worked. And just thinking about killing and hurting someone is making his shoulder hurt again.
"Werewolves born under full moons are said to be highly intelligent. Since they're born outside they have better set of skills. Like smell, hearing, sight, and even communication in general." Stacy explained.
"Oh great, now we need something that gets past his werewolf boost." Petra groaned. "I wish I had my gun back..."
"Stay with us Petra. So is there anything that can kill him?" Lukas pondered. He was a professional ponderer after all.
"As immortal as he might be the only thing that could kill a werewolf is the Wolf Sword. Which Ein took from us." Dan said.
"The fuck is that? I never heard of it." Romeo said bluntly. "It sounds stupid."
"And you were supposed to be a leader?" Cassie wondered aloud.
"Is there anything else that could kill him? Besides a sword made of pure silver." Petra said.
"A silver bullet would hurt him. And one to the heart would definitely kill him." Stacy pointed out. "Cassie do you know if Lizzie still has that gun? You know since you saw her last?"
Cassie rubbed the back of her head. "You see the thing about that is that I stole it so she wouldn't kill me. The last place I put it was in my shop in the hidden safe under the floorboards. I was going to throw it in the south river but I forgot it. Turned out to be a good move I guess."
"So that's how we kill him!" Petra cheered. "let me do it! I got an excellent aim!"
"It's true. She never misses." Lukas agreed.
"Shouldn't we let Lizzie do it? It's her gun." Dan suggested.
"No way! What if she tries to kill me again!" Stampy shouted.
"She what!" Dan gasped.
"Right here!" Stampy yelled pointing to the spot between his eyes. "She said that she was going to shoot me right between the eyes! Then she said Stacy got in the way and that's why she died. So there! A little bit of context for you!"
Dan stayed silent while everyone else continued their conversation. Petra starting with, "Right between the eyes is a hard shot. But we want the heart, right? Lizzie's never hunted animals before, so I should be the one to shoot that bullet. I shoot animals in the heart all the time from a distance."
"Considering this distance can be from right behind him to all the way across the dining room. Which is massive may I add. Petra are you sure? Not just sure but absolutely positive that you can make the shot from that distance?" Lukas asked, clearly concerned. For if she misses then they're all exposed and Ein will become protected, by dragons no less.
"As long as I can get my rifle back, and if I can shoot the bullet from there then I can guarantee you Lukas that I can make the shot," Petra reassured.
"No," Romeo said. "I've seen guns with silver bullets before. It has to be made for the gun."
Cassie nodded in agreement. "He's right. Unless we can find silver bullets for a rifle in a matter of days. If we manage to get that silver bullet left in my shop... Petra you're going to have to use a handgun... are you any good with those? It's a revolver, from what I remember."
"Uh... maybe?" Petra mumbled.
"Petra, we're serious. Are you good with a handgun?" Lukas asked, gripping her arm.
"I haven't used one in over a decade. Rifles are all I know." Petra admitted.
Dan looked over at the group. "So we need Lizzie then. Because I don't think any of us will have a good shot besides her." Stampy growled but didn't say anything, he just wanted to sleep at this point.
"Fine. How do we get the gun then?" Romeo asked. "Clearly one of us won't get there fast enough."
"We use Ashton. That Aether dragon who flew Romeo and I in here. He got us here in a matter of hours, from a hidden forest. A months journey on horse and buggy would probably take an hour with a dragon flying as fast as he can possibly go." Cassie pointed out.
"Then we go get him! But when will we get the opportunity to kill Ein?" Lukas asked.
"Tonight!" Stacy said suddenly. "Tonight there's a festival or some sorts. Ein is sure to be there, it's why all these royal creatures keep showing up. They were invited here. So if we do this right, we might be able to blend into the crowd after the shot is fired."
"Brilliant! We'll give a signal to whoever is firing the shot, and once the signal is given we all make our way towards the kitchen! The person with the bullet has to wait for five minutes to make sure everyone is in the kitchen. Once we're all in the kitchen we can escape from there thanks to Yin, who can carry us to the throne room to gather the others. And then when the five minutes are up the bullet is shot and that person can escape through Ashton." Lukas planned.
"Perfect. Let's go to the throne room. Lead the way, Lukas." Romeo said.
Cassie and Romeo followed Lukas, Petra, and Dan to the throne room. But before Stampy could follow like a baby duckling, Stacy grabbed his left shoulder and turned him around. "Sorry, that still hurts?"
"It hurts a lot. But thanks for adding on to my pain." Stampy said sarcastically.
"What is with this sarcasm and attitude? That isn't the Stampy I know." Stacy pointed out.
The two glared at each other for a moment, Stacy keeping her hand on Stampys shoulder. And although it hurt, he never thought that she would become human... or not a ghost... ever again. But then he thought, she probably doesn't even know that I know. Does she even know about that crystal ball? "Stacy," he said. "Do you know anything about a crystal ball? Cassie gave it to me when I woke up."
"I do actually, Dan found it in the werewolf village. Are you still wearing the necklace?" She asked.
"What necklace? I don't remember having a necklace."
"It must've fallen off you. Those werewolves would've killed you if I hadn't managed to get it on you in time. It protects the person wearing it from all werewolf attacks."
"Well, that explains to coma. But why did you leave the crystal ball?"
Stacy took a deep breath and removed her hand from Stampys shoulder. "I wanted to keep it with me so that I could check on you whenever I wanted to, to see if you would wake up. But everyone else thought that it would be a better idea to let you have it, so when you woke up you would know where we were. To be honest, I didn't expect you to come after us."
"Well, I did use it, only once though. It made me never want to use a crystal ball again." Stampy said. "When I looked into the ball, I saw you."
"It was sweet of you to check up on me Stampy," Stacy said with a smile.
Though Stampy remained with a blank look on his face. But in his eyes you could see that he was depressed. "I looked into it, and I saw you. I saw you kissing Ein. Please tell me it's not true. It's fake right? Something to mess with me?"
"Oh... that..." She said almost silently.
Stampy stepped back, it was real."So... it's real? You did that? You did that to me?"
"Be rational here, I didn't know you where awake, and we where never... you know... I mean not really. Right? And do you think I wanted to kiss Ein?" Stacy argued.
"But... why?" Stampy barley managed to ask. 'Why' seemed to be the only word in his head.
Stacy tried to explain her side of the story, but secretly feared that Stampy wouldn't listen. If he got into a duel with Grazer over me then he might not listen to me. After what he saw... I probably wouldn't listen to me either. "Ein did a lot of things to me Stampy. He separated me from my friends, he brought me back to life, he probably got Jesse sick... and he killed Axel. He also... did things... things that are crimes. Crimes that could get you hanged for doing so. Don't you see? He put a spell on me!"
"What crimes? A lot of crimes can get a person hanged these days!" Stampy argued back.
"Rape is a big one, isn't it? That's all I can remember really, besides him abandoning his kid in Growler Town..." Stacy barely managed to get the word 'rape' out of her mouth. Ugh, I still get flashbacks to that... don't think about it too much Stacy.
"He did what!" Stampy shouted. Though his voice ended up sounding like an old toad, croaking.
"Mhm. It was awful. Painful. A lot of shouting. The one shout I remember clearly is 'Give me puppies!' I don't fully understand why he wants puppies from me, or why I would be a match for him. But whenever I tried to say no he would hit me again and again... and again. It never seemed to stop, until I let him do whatever he wanted with me. I was like a dog going through obedience training. I don't even know if I'm pregnant or not! What month is it? October? I'm pretty much fucked!" She tried to explain, tears starting to form in her eyes as the painful memories flooded back to her. "Everything hurts Stampy... it wasn't just hits it was everything. He bit me, scratched me, pinned me against doors and walls, even on the floor. I felt so dirty after, like no matter how hard I tried to wash myself I can never be cleaned. Then the next day he would act as if nothing happened or if I wasn't mentally scarred from that. I've been scared of many things in life, Stampy. But Ein... his face is engraved in my mind. He truly is made of nightmares like the old werewolf writings say he is..."
Stacy couldn't help but give Stampy a hug, her face in his chest sobbing. And all Stampy could do was hold her in his arms and try to soothe her, for it didn't want to try anything because he doesn't know what else Ein did to her. "Shh, it's okay. I'll protect you, no matter what it takes. I don't know how, but he'll pay for hurting you."
It has to be me, Stampy thought. I have to be the one who kills Ein. A Silver bullet right through his heart.
