“Kirkland.”
Piper’s smoothe voice knocked him out of his deep stare at his worst memories.
“Wh-What wrong?” Kirkland asked, wiping his eyes.
“You’re torturing yourself.” Piper turned his head towards her. “If you keep staring at them you’ll go insane.”
“I have to… I caused this… I was the first one who got the virus. I should be the one in here, not you and the rest of the pack.” His fist clenched, his nails digging into his palm. “This is my punishment, only mine.”
“Kirkland, we’re mates now. Your problems are my problems. This is as much as your tourtutre as it is mine.” Piper took his hands in hers. “You know what it’s gonna show… right?”
“Yeah…” Kirkland inhaled sharply as the night of their failed mating began to play. “We shouldn’t have to relive this. You shouldn’t have to relive this.”
“I know.” She kissed his hand. “But I’m right here. This time, we’re doing this together.”
“Together…” Kirkland nodded, focusing on the horrid memory.
“Please! Don't go, Kirkland!” Piper pleaded, wrapping her arms around the wolf as he began rushing back to his clothes. “You can’t do this to me! If I did something wrong tell me! I can fix it.”
“You didn’t do anything wrong Pipey…” Kirkland turned towards her, a soft – yet sad – smile forming on his lips. “This isn’t because of you…”
“Then why are you leaving?!” Piper’s sobs hardened, burying her face into his back. “Just let us mate then you can leave,” she gripped his cheeks, pulling him down at a soft kiss, “don't leave me… please…”
“Pipey… I love you.” Kirkland whispered. “I must go… promise, you’ll wait for me?”
“No waiting.” Piper stated, pushing him against the door. “No leaving.” She roughly kissed along her neck. “You can’t leave me.”
“Pipey!” Kirkland gripped her shoulders, pushing her away. “I have to go.”
Piper shook her head, her tears streaming down her cheeks. “You’re mine… don't forget that…”
“I won't, baby.” Kirkland kissed her lips one last time, tasting her delicious strawberry and vanilla taste. “Don't you forget that you're mine.”
“I’ll never be anyone else Kirkland… but please… just an hour… let it be just an hour. Just one more hour I can be with you.” Piper pleaded, pulling him towards the bed.
Kirkland sighed, nodded as she took her lips in his once more. “One more hour.”
Piper smiled, falling back onto the bed as Kirkland towered over her, her hands resting on his cheek. “Thank you.” she whispered.
“Anything for you…” Kirkland kissed her nose. “If this is our last night together for a while, I want you to remember this forever.”
Piper was a vision of loveliness to him… Kirkland had never noticed how truly beautiful she was as she sparkled under the pale moonlight. With all the commotion happening in the last hour, he hasn’t taken the time to notice all the little things about her…
The way her hair shone like waves of the sea. How her deep brown sparkled when she smiled. How smooth her long legs were. How her lightly muscled body flowed while she trained. Her elegant neck. The softness of her hands. The flawlessness of her pale skin. Her plump skin. Her delectable curves…
He felt his hands tremble a little as he took her chin between his thumb and forefinger, tilting her head up to look him straight in the eyes. He saw the surprise in her eyes for a fraction of a second before his lips gently pressed against hers…
Piper instantly melted into his embrace, eagerly returning his kiss. Kirkland’s heart pounded as her arms encircled his neck, her willingness fueling the flame of his desire. Her lips were soft and sweet, and he hungrily swept his tongue across them as they deepened.
The touch made her gasp in delight and he took the opportunity to slip his tongue inside her mouth to tangle with her own. He groaned as her tongue played with his, eagerly brushing against it and drawing him deeper inside to taste her full flavor.
Piper whimpered as he clutched her roughly against him when she began sucking on his tongue.
After what felt like an eternity, they broke apart, gasping for breath. Kirkland’s eyes fixed on her flushed face ase they both painted, still dazed from the intensity of the kiss. Her lips were slightly parted and wet, while her eyes were half lidded and clouded with lust.
“I-” she began, but Kirkland’s lips silenced her as she fiercely kissed her again. He broke away after only a few seconds and cupped her face in his hands, his eyes boring into hers.
“No. Just Kirkland,” he said huskily, “don't say anything else but my name.”
Piper’s eyes shone brightly as tears filled them and she smiled her heartbreakingly sweet smile. She nodded and ran her fingers lightly over his cheek.
“Kirkland… please…” She whispered.
The wolf felt like liquid fire pumped through his veins as his lips crashed against hers once again. He had never liked the heat, fire always terrified Kirkland. But this… this was heat he could get used to.
He devoured Piper’s lips like they were the rarest of treats, occasionally nipping at her lips then smoothing his tongue over the spot and making her whimper. She was so eager. Holding nothing back as she kissed him back with wild abandon.
Kirkland slanted his mouth over hers and shifted his fingers into her lovely blonde hair, thrusting his tongue into her mouth as they gently eased back onto the bed.
“Pipey…” he whispered when they broke apart again, gazing down at her flushed face. Her hair was fanned out on the pillow beneath her, her expression was so waton he felt his length hardening at the erotic sight. She trembled at the sound of her name on his lips, stokin his male pride. “If you want me to stop, tell me now. Because I won't be able to if we go further.”
Her reply was almost instant and it made his heart pound in delight. “Please, don't stop Kirkland!”
Kirkland let himself go, and suddenly his lips were latched onto the smooth paleness of her neck. She moaned loudly as she sucked greedily at her soft skin, reviling in the delicious taste.
She shuddered as his teeth gently scraped her neck, another moan escaping her as his tongue slid slowly up the length of her neck. When he reached her ear, he swirled his tongue around the outer shell of her ear before gently nipping at it.
“Piper… Promise to give me everything tonight…” He whispered against her ear, his voice low and full of desire. She shuddered as she nodded, her breathing ragged. “Good.”

Piper awoke the next morning, hoping to find her wolf beside her. Only to be welcomed by the cold reality of her empty side of the bed.
“Kirkland?” She whispered, a loud howl piercing through her ears. She rushed towards the window, her eyes landing on the wolf near the forest clearing. A solemn howl escaped his lips once more, this time being a desperate plea out for his mate.
Piper sobbed, morphing into her wolf form as she howled back, her desperate plea for him to stay echoing through her howl. Her howl got louder as the wolf ran into the forest.
Tears ran down the light brown wolf’s cheeks as he galloped through the forest, her lonesome cries still reaching his ears even though she was far away from the pack now.
“I hope you’re happy with yourself!” his wolf scolded, growling at the human half. “How dare you leave Piper?!”
“You think I wanted to leave her?!” Kirkland halted, his feet skidding in the dirt. “You think I wanted to leave that beautiful goddess?!”
“It sure sounds like you did!!”
“Well I didn’t!” Kirkland clawed his nails into the dirt. “You know I can’t defy his orders!”
“Since when do you care about his orders?! You hate Zedian but now, all of a sudden, you wanna listen to him?!” He snarled, scoffing at Kirkland. “How dare you leave our mate! You have some nerve!”
“It wasn’t my fault!!” Kirkland roared, running faster until he reached the entrance of the Wilson pack to see Zedian and Declan waiting for them.
Kirkland snarled, dashing towards Zedian to talk him to the floor. “You bitch! What is so important that you’re making me miss my mating with Piper?!”
“I don't need anything from you, the Australian wolf was getting on my nerves so I killed him. The moment Campbell finds out they’d be after use so I pull the exchange.” Zedian explained with a smirk.
“You killed him?!” Kirkland hollered in shock, earning a nod from the alpha. “What’s wrong with you?!”
“That wolf was annoying me. Wasn’t he, Declan.” He turned towards the wolf standing silently with a clenched fist.
“Yes…”
“Yes, what?” Zedian asked.
“Yes… Alpha…”
“Better.” Zedian smirked, pushing Kirkland off of him. He brushed past Declan. “Go help that weakling you call a brother.”
With that, Zedian walked off, letting the two brothers be.
Declan refused to look his brother in the eye, ashamed to eye anyone in his pack due to his failure.
“What. Happened?!” Kirkland scolded, pushing on his brother’s chest.
“I-I tried Kirkland, bu-but he’s just too damn strong…!” Declan’s eyes peered at the ground, his fist drawing blood as his nails nug into them.
“I’m not calling him alpha, you are my only alpha.” Kirkland stated. “Got that? You’re the alpha. Not Zedian.”
“I’m the alpha.” He murmured.
“Louder.”
“I’m the alpha.” He repeated, a little louder this time.
“Louder!”
“I’m the alpha!” His proudly stated, his eyes flashing a bright silver.
“You damn right you are!” Kirkland pushed on his chest once more, following him into the pack. He whimpered slightly at the somber expression his fellow pack members carried.
“Hey, Kirk,” Declan whispered, opening the door to his brother’s room, “Piper… is she-”
“She probably hates me…” Kirkland fell into the comforts of his bed. “I was this close… this close to marking her!!”
“You really love her huh?” Declan asked, dropping his brother’s duffle bag on the floor.
“Declan,” he turned on his back, gazing up at his ceiling, “it was more than love with her… with her it was like I was walking on air. Such soft… sensual… loving air.”
He smiled softly, thinking back to the loving times he had with his Australian wolf. He loved how sexy her Australian drawl came off when she said his name. How soft her milky skin was under his touch. How delicious her skin tasted under his lips. How she giggled every time he surprised her. How her lips curled around any object they touched.
“She wasn’t just any girl Declan… Piper… Piper was the one.” Kirkland turned towards the window, gazing up at the stars and moon. “My little Aussie… I hope you're listening.” He went into his pocket, pulling out a Golden Wattle flower, watching it shine under the light of the moon.
“My aussie… forgive me.” He planted a small kiss on the flower. “Please forgive me, my Aussie, I never meant to leave you… I never meant to be the one to hurt you. All I ever wanted to do was bring you happiness, bring you joy, love, hope. Yet… I ended up bringing you only pain. Pain that I promised I’d never give you, pain that I promised you never felt, that you’d never experience…”
“Those nights, those nights where we’d just stare into each other's eyes. Gaze longing into one another… taking the other in as though we’d never see each other ever again.” While there were tears streaming down his cheeks, he still managed to chuckle. “I thought the world never ended when I was with you. I felt like I could live forever… I felt like I could do anything by your side.”
He sighed, more tears coming down. “But now… now we’re apart… and it’s only been a few hours but it feels like days. Hell, being away from you can only be described as that; Hell. When I left… I felt a piece of my heart get ripped out. No, not a piece, and the entire organ was ripped out of my body as I ran from the pack.”
“My little Aussie, if it’s anything you learn from this, let it be this,” he stroked the flower softly as his tears stained the glorious flower, “you’re the love of my life, Piper, so please forgive me for leaving you so suddenly. I promise… even if I have to claw, scrape, and beg… I’ll get back to you. I swear, Piper, I’ll get back to you!!”
Quickly, the American wolf embraced his Australian mate, taking in her delicious scent. “I never meant to leave you… I didn’t want to leave you. I swear I didn’t! I wanted to stay with you in my arms till all eternity!”
Piper stroked his hair, lifting his face off his chest. Smiling softly at the wolf she giggled. “Kirkland. That’s in the past. You’re here now.” She wrapped her arms around him, placing a soft kiss on his lips. “I’m not cold anymore.”
“Cold?” Kirkland asked, separating the kiss.
“Yes, when you left so suddenly…” she watched as a memory began to form, “you’ll see.”
Piper groaned, turning to her side, hoping to feel the warmth of her wolf, but was greeted by the coldness of the sheets.
Shooting her eyes open, she slowly sat up, glancing around for her wolf. “Kirkland?” She whispered, she felt around beside her for the wolf in question but there was nothing but sheets beside her. “Kirkland?” She asked once more.
Once more, no response.
“Kirkland?” Her searching became more frantic, her breathing quickening. “Kirkland?!”
The door creaked open, whipping her head towards it in hopes to see Kirkland. However, it was only her brother. “How are you holding up, Pipey?” Oliver asked, coming in with a tray of oatmeal and strawberries, replacing it with yesterday’s breakfast Piper barely touched.
“I don't want to talk, Oliver.” Piper grumbled, turning away from her brother.
“Pipey, the pack is worried about you.” Oliver sat on the edge of the bed, stroking her arm. “They miss seeing their Head Beta… this sad Piper… this isn’t you.”
“Without him… I feel so broken.” Piper sobbed, clenching Kirkland’s pillow, taking in the last drops of his scent.
“I know, Pipey, I know.” Oliver helped her sit up, feeding her some oatmeal.
“It feels like the world is crumbling and I can’t find an exit… I can’t find the lifevest that’ll keep me from drowning. When he left… it felt like this flood of water washed over me, suffocating me… drowning me.” Piper’s eyes grew dull. “I could feel myself dying! Do you know what that’s like?! To feel yourself die?!”
“I don't…” Oliver muttered.
“Exactly! You don't! I-I-I can’t breathe without him! He’s my oxygen, my blood, my water, my energy source, my heat! I-I-I can’t live without him!!” Piper clenched her legs close to her chest, sobbing into her knees. “I need him!”
“Pipey, there'll be others.” Oliver assured her.
“Not like him!!” Piper hollered, her tears streaming down her cheeks. “Kirkland was everything! He was my best friend, my lover, my soulmate. He never cared that I yelled at the TV, or that I hunted more than him, or that I like honey in my popcorn.”
“Do you think I did something wrong, Olly?” Piper sniffled, gazing up at her brother with wide, saddened eyes.
“No.” Oliver replied, scooting closer towards her. “You did nothing wrong, sis. Kirkland just had to leave, it wasn’t your fault, it wasn’t his fault, it was his Alpha’s fault.”
“Why did his alpha want to separate us?” Piper whimpered, wiping her tears but more kept coming.
“Because… some alphas aren’t as accepting as me.” Oliver attempted to explain. “Some people don't understand that love is love.”
A sudden shiver ran over Piper’s spine, freezing her entire body. Frantically looking around for her wolf, her teeth chattered.
“Pipey, what’s wrong?” Oliver asked, his voice filling with worry.
“Ki-Kir-Kirkland! Co-Cold!” She shivered, her body shaking like a leaf in a windstorm.
Quickly rushing to turn on the heater that surrounded her bed, Oliver knew it still wasn’t enough. She didn’t need heaters, she needed Kirkland’s heat.
“It should heat you up soon, don't worry.” Oliver assured her, wrapping a blanket around his little sister.
“Ki-Kirk-Kirkland!!” She stammered, her skin slowly turning blue.
“Giselle!” Oliver called out, in came the fairy in question.
“What’s happening?” Giselle asked, sitting beside the shivering wolf.
“Her body’s shutting down because of the loss of Kirkland’s heat.” Oliver quickly explained.
“It’s Mate Withdrawal.” Giselle stroked her cheek, scanning her wand up and down Piper’s body as she lowered her back down into the bed. “Turn off these heaters, they’re not helping.”
“Isn’t that what she needs? Heat?” Oliver asked, turning off the heaters one by one.
“This artificial heat isn’t helping her, it’s merely making the need for real heat more prudent.” Giselle explained, scanning her once more with her wand. “Piper,” she turned towards the wolf, watching as her eyes slowly began to close. “Piper stay with me, you cannot fall asleep!”
“But I’m… so sleepy…” she yawned, groaning as the cold ran through her body once more. “Kirkland’s there… when I sleep.”
“I know he is, but if you fall asleep you’ll never wake up.” Giselle warned.
“That means… more Kirkland…” Piper smiled softly.
“No, that means no more Kirkland.” Giselle stroked her cheek, her skin was cold to the touch.
“No more Kirkland?”
“No more Kirkland if you fall asleep.” Giselle repeated, placing her hand on Piper’s forehead. “Think happy thoughts for me now, Piper. Can you do that?”
Piper nodded, her thoughts drifting away as a vision of Kirkland became clear in her mind. She smiled, purring as the thought of his touches lingered along her skin. The sexy groan escaped his lips as he moaned her name. She smirked, writhing against the sheets as warmth filled her body.
“Good Pipey.” Giselle smiled, stroking her hair. “Feeling better?”
“A little… but I’d feel better… if he were here.” Piper muttered.
“I know, Piper, I know.” Giselle kissed her forehead. “I know you’ll be together soon. Very soon, Piper.”
