Chapter 47: Ladies love country boys
Watch the full video to see what two-stepping is!! Even if you do know, I recommend watching the video so you have an idea of what I'm talking about.
Wyatt
"Who are they talking to?" I ask Tyler.
Katie and Izzy are talking to a girl they know and Tyler and I are people watching.
"She rides at their barn. I'm pretty sure she's the one that told Izzy about Mckenzie."
I nod my head.
The song changes about five chords into the song all the girls yell and head to the dance floor.
"Oh boy," Tyler mumbles with his head in his hands.
"What?" I ask confused.
Tyler looks up at me. "You don't know what song this is?"
I shake my head.
"Well, just listen to the words."
My eyes search the crowd of girls on the dance floor. Finally, they land on a certain brunette shaking her hips. I smile and feel a warmth fill my stomach.
Katie turns toward Izzy and I watch them sing the lyrics along with every girl in here.
"She riding in the middle of his pickup truck. Blearing Charlie Daniels yelling turn it up. They raised her up a lady but there's one thing they can't avoid-"
I realize what song they're dancing to. Ladies love country boys by Trace Akins.
I glance at Tyler and he's wearing a bored expression. "Lady's love country boys," Tyler mouths the song.
I lean back against the booth and fold my arms across my chest. It takes everything I have not to run over to Katie and scope her up into my arms and never let go.
It killed me that this is all fake.
Once the song is over Tyler waves Izzy and Katie over.
"Hon, when you dance to that song it offends me a little," Tyler tells Izzy with a small smirk.
Izzy puts her hands on her hips and stares Tyler down. "And why does it?"
"You're basically saying you settled for me but deep down you want a cowboy," Tyler says with a frown.
Izzy laughs and wraps her arms around Tyler's neck. "Honey, you know I love you. Your my cowboy even though you're terrified of horses."
We watch them walk back to the dance floor.
"You can tell me you know," Tyler says breaking the silence.
"What?"
Tyler gives me a look like I should know what he's talking about.
"You can tell me if you have feelings for Kat."
Oh. I feel my face flush.
Tyler chuckles and I groan while laying my head on the table. "Is it that obvious?"
Tyler smirks. "No, but I'm pretty good at reading people."
I glance up at Tyler to see him staring at me. "Do you think Katie knows?" I whisper.
Tyler looks towards the dance floor. "No Katie's pretty oblivious to people's feelings toward her."
My eyes automatically find Katie in the crowd.
"Are you going to tell her?" Tyler questions.
I feel my eyes widen and my hands go clammy.
"Lord no!"
"At least not in till after her dad's work gala."
Tyler nods his head. "That's a good idea. You don't want to make things weird because Kat needs you, Wyatt. You can't flake on her, this ride means a lot to her."
I look down. "I know, I'm not going anywhere."
"I don't think she feels the same anyway," I mumble.
Tyler looks at me with an unreadable expression. "I don't think Kat knows what she feels, but I do know she feels something towards you or she wouldn't trust you as she does. She doesn't let many people in especially people she's only known for two and a half weeks."
I give Tyler a small smile. "She's helped me more than anyone has."
Tyler grins. "That's Kat's specialty she just doesn't know it."
"Don't tell Izzy please," I say pleading with my eyes.
Tyler frowns. "Wyatt, you can't ask me that."
"I know, but at least till after next weekend. I don't want Izzy to say anything to her."
Tyler sighs. "Fine."
We continue to watch our girls dance in silence.
I'm scrolling through my phone till I feel someone kick my leg. I look up and Tyler's hands are in fists.
"What's wrong?"
"That jackass thinks he can just come in here and dance with any girl he wants." Tyler spits out.
I follow his gaze and see Jacob spinning Katie around to a song.
My jaw hardens. "What is that guy's problem?"
"I have no freaking clue. Izzy thinks he's just being friendly, but I can tell he's got something for Kat. He used to be that way with Iz and I told him to back the hell off." I see Tyler's jaw twitch.
I continue to watch them. He was standing beside Katie dancing and every so often he would take her hand and twirl her around.
"So, you're just going to sit there and watch that asshole dance with your girl?" Tyler snaps.
"What am I supposed to do?"
"I don't want Katie to get mad at me since we're not dating." My voice comes out high and shaky.
Tyler rolls his eyes. "For Pete's freaking sake be that possessive, jealous boyfriend you know you want to be."
I smile at his comment and stand up. I hear Tyler's slow clap as I stride toward them.
"Excuse me, but could I have this dance, baby?" I ask Katie. Jacobs's eyes harden as he looks me up and down.
I don't know what it is about this guy that bugs me so much.
Katie takes my hand. "I would love to dance with you."
Katie
"Damn they're good aren't they," Wyatt says.
We are watching Tyler and Izzy two-step to a Carrie Underwood song. Tyler picks Izzy up and flips her around in a circle.
Now I'm going to teach Wyatt how to two-step but I needed a slower song.
Once the song is over everyone claps and the familiar chord of a guitar plays over the speakers.
Forever and Ever by Randy Travis is the perfect song to two-step too.
I smile up at Wyatt and pull him onto the dance floor.
"Wait Katie, I don't think I'm ready," Wyatt stutters.
I take his hand place it on my shoulder and hold his other in my hand. "You got this, just follow me."
Wyatt is staring into my eyes with such intensity that I feel my face heat. "Just step to the music."
Wyatt steps with me.
He stumbles around a turn causing me to fall against his chest. Wyatt's breath quickens.
"This is actually Tyler and Izzy's song," I say to distract my thoughts.
We are so close I can feel his breath on my forehead and his cologne isn't helping.
"That makes sense considering the lyrics," Wyatt says breathily.
"See this isn't too hard," I say.
Wyatt chuckles and I feel it rumble through his chest. "It helps when you have a good partner."
His comment causes me to stumble and I place my head against his chest. "I'm not that good."
When we turn I catch a glimpse of Izzy and Tyler. Everything they did together made me watch to take a picture and caption it, #CoupleGoals. Never in my life have I seen two people more in love.
The song ends and another immediately begins.
Cover me up Morgan Wallen's version starts playing. Couples start swaying to the beat.
I give Wyatt my best puppy dog eyes. "Will you slow dance with me?"
Wyatt dramatically sighs but his eyes are twinkling. "I guess."
Normally you wouldn't change your hand placements but I wanted to be closer to Wyatt.
I let go of his hand and wrap my arms around his neck. Wyatt stiffens and then relaxes as he snakes his arms around my waist.
We stare into each other's eyes as we sway back and forth. I never thought someone's eyes could be so beautiful.
His eyes draw you in and you can't look away.
I can dance with a thousand people and I will never forget the feeling of dancing with Wyatt.
Some people were giving us look's because of how we were dancing, but I don't care.
Wyatt steps on my foot and we both laugh.
I close my eyes to soak up the feeling of being in Wyatt's arms. I've only ever danced with family (or Tyler), but swaying with Wyatt brought out a feeling I didn't know I had.
I feel full, like a part of me was missing and now I'm complete.
How are we supposed to be friends after this?
"Do you know what he's singing about in the song?" Wyatt asks breaking the silence.
I open my eyes to see him smirking.
I sigh. "Yes, Wyatt I know what he's singing about."
"I was just wondering. What do you think he means?" Wyatt asks.
"A girl showing him what love feels like," I say quietly.
Wyatt smiles. "Oh, I thought he was talking about something else."
I think about his comment for a few seconds. "Oh come on Wyatt, seriously?" I whisper yell.
"Well, I mean he tells a girl to hang her dress out to dry then proceeds to say they are not leaving the bedroom."
I brake out into I fit of laughter causing people to glare at us.
"Izzy, I told you all that dancing was going to make your feet hurt," Tyler grumbles.
He's giving her a piggyback ride to his car since her feet hurt.
"Well, it was worth it. Even if my toes are going to be blistered tomorrow." Izzy yells causing Tyler to flinch.
Izzy sat on top of a speaker and now her ears are ringing.
We hop in the car and I feel my eyes get extremely heavy. Before I know it I fall asleep with a warm arm around my shoulders.
