Chapter 32: Tyler & his little girl

Katie
After I get home from school, I see Derek sitting in the living room, watching TV.

"Hey, Der."

He pauses the TV. "What's up?" He knows me too well.

I tell him everything about Wyatt.

"Well, I'm glad you told me, Gracie, Tyler's going to freak when he finds out."

I look at the floor. "He kind of already knows."

Derek's eyes harden. "Oh?"

"Good to know."

I stand up and go to my room. Tyler is going to be pissed with me. Knowing Derek he's going to have a little chat with Tyler about not telling him.

I take a shower and wash my hair.

To dry my hair I use a round brush hair dryer to straighten it.

I dig through my closet, trying to find something to wear. I settle on a spaghetti strap crop top and a pair of bootcut jeans.

I hear my phone dig from beside my bed.

Babe: What are you wearing?

Me: I was thinking this

I send her a picture of my outfit.

Babe: Def wear that!!!!

Me: You don't think it's too much?

Babe: Would you wear that if you were going out with me and Ty?

Me: Yes?

Babe: There's your answer! Don't change yourself to impress someone else!

Me: Wait! I'm not trying to impress Wyatt.

Babe: Shutting the phone off!

Me: 🙄😐

After I finish texting Izzy I hear the front door open. It must be Wyatt.

I spray on a little bit of Bath and Body Works cotton candy body mist.

As I'm leaving my room I snatch my purse off my desk and run downstairs.

"Whoa! You look amazing."Wyatt says with his mouth open.

I blush. "Thanks."

I run my eyes down Wyatt's body. He's wearing dark blue, Levi jeans and a light blue T-shirt, with a button-up, over it.

Gosh, he looked hot.

"Have her home by eleven, no later. Dad will not be happy if he comes home and you are not here." Derek says sternly.

My dad had some type of work dinner tonight and wouldn't be home till late.

I wave bye to Derek and follow Wyatt out the door.

"Oh! Der, Tyler said he's spending the night at Izzy's since his mom is not going to be home till late tonight." I yell to Derek.

"Okay!"

I follow Wyatt to his Jeep and he opens my door for me.

"So you told Derek about us?" Wyatt asks as he pulls out of our driveway.

I cringe. "Yeah, Ty told me if I didn't he was going to tell him."

Wyatt nods his head.

"Sweetie, where are we going?" I ask grinning.

"First, we are getting dinner at Logan's Road House."

I smile. "I love that place!"

When we get there Wyatt gets a table for two near the back. For a Thursday night, it's surprisingly crowded.

After we sit down we order our drinks.

Normally I would be super nervous to on a 'date' without Tyler or Izzy, but with Wyatt, I feel comfortable.

Probably because it's not a real date. It's all for looks.

For some reason that makes my heart sad.

"Kate, what are you going to study in college?" Wyatt asks taking a sip of his drink.

"I don't remember all the classes I will take, but at the end of my four years I will have a degree in Animal Physio."

Wyatt raises his eyebrows."That's pretty cool. But is that what you want to do?"

I sigh, how in the world did he see through me?

"Most of the time I'll be working with horses along with other animals. But my love is training horses."

Wyatt eyes soften. "Why don't you do that?"

"It's hard to make money training horses, it's not realistic," I say quietly.

Wyatt smiles his signature smile. "You should do what you love and what makes you happy."

I chuckle. "I can still train horses and be an animal chiropractor."

Wyatt looks off in the distance. "An animal chiropractor, that sounds like the coolest job ever."

I laugh. "Not as cool as an NFL star quarterback."

Wyatt rolls his eyes. "I'm not that good."

"Yes, you are! I may not look like it, but I know a whole lot about football."

Wyatt runs his hands down his face. "Kate, to get to the NFL, I have to go to a good college."

I grin. "Exactly."

He gives me a bored look. "You're not going to let up on that are you?"

I shake my head. "Look, I have nothing against not going to college after you graduate."

I hold my hand up to stop Wyatt from interrupting me. "But, you have a gift, Wyatt, and it would be a shame for you to throw it away because of guilt. I see you when you play, your whole face changes."

Wyatt stares at me with an unreadable expression. "You are very persistent."

I giggle.

The waitress brings our food. I ordered chicken tenders and waffle fries and Wyatt ordered a huge hamburger with waffle fries.

As I'm taking a picture of my food Wyatt sticks the toothpick from his hamburger into my chicken.

I set my phone done and stare at him with a confused look. "Why?"

He just shrugs his shoulders and takes a bite of his hamburger.

Wyatt finishes his food in record time while I'm still working on my fries.

He reaches over and grabs two of my fries. "Hey!" I exclaim and he shoves the fries in his mouth.

We continue to talk and laugh till the waitress brings the check.

As she places it down she looks at Wyatt and raises her eyebrows ever so slightly.

"I bet five dollars, she wrote her number on the receipt," I state as I eat the last yeast roll from earlier.

Wyatt sighs and rests his chin in his hand. "Kate, you have no idea how hard it is to be me."

I laugh. "It must be hard having women fall at your feet."

Wyatt looks at me with a fake, sad smile. "It really is, everywhere I go women are constantly bothering me."

I shake my head giggling. "What a tragedy."

He opens up the folder containing the bill.

"Well, what do you know she wrote her phone number and her Snapchat."

I felt a twinge of jealousy shoot through me.

I reach over and grab my pocketbook. "What are you doing?" Wyatt asks.

"Getting my wallet," I deadpan.

"Nope, this one is on me. Remember Saturday you said next time we eat I pay," Wyatt says grinning.

I set my head back and groan. "Ugh fine."

"I'm going to go the bathroom while you wait for your change," I add with sass.

Wyatt nods his head.

As I'm coming out of the bathroom I almost run into someone. "I'm so sorry," I say as I look up.

I realize it's a guy around my age who looks slightly familiar.

"Katie Fleming, right?" He asks.

"Yes?" I'm really confused.

"I'm Adam, remember from World History class last year."

Oh, that's why he looked familiar.

"Oh, yeah," I say awkwardly.

"Is Tyler and his little girl with you or are you by yourself?" Adam asks smirking.

And now I am now remembering why Tyler hated this guy.

"No, I'm actually here with Wyatt."

"Oh, Wyatt Kent?" Adam asks, his voice dropping several degrees.

I take a breath to say something, but Adam interrupts me.

"Would you like to grab something to eat sometime?" Adam asks.

He steps closer to me. Maybe someone will come out of the bathroom so I can get away from him.

"Adam, I'm kind of dating Wyatt," I say sternly.

He shrugs his shoulders. "So, I don't care."

That's it, I feel my eyes harden, and my niceness snaps. Adam is at least 6/1 and all muscle, (I'm pretty sure he is on the wrestling team) but I don't care. I walk up to him and push him as hard as I can.

I catch him off guard because he stumbles backward.

"Leave me alone, Adam!"

I feel someone grab my arm, I turn and see Adams's nasty grin.

"Let go of me, unless you want a black eye," I say, coldly.

He chuckles. "Please."

Right before I can pull my hand back to punch him, I feel an arm wrap around my shoulders.

"Baby, is this guy bothering you?" I release a long breath and relax into Wyatt's side.

I glance up to see him staring down at me.
I can tell he's pissed.

"She's just fine," Adam says smugly.

"I didn't ask you!" Wyatt snaps. I feel him tense up.

"Wyatt, sweetie, let's go." I plead.

"Okay," Wyatt says quietly. I notice he's holding my pocketbook as well.

My heart melts at the sight of my pocketbook slung around his elbow.

We turn to walk away and Adam yells, "Katie darling, I'll be waiting for you when he breaks your heart. It won't be long, he has mental problems."

I whip around and out of Wyatt's hold.

"I would never stoop down to your level and date a piece of shit like you!"

"Go find someone else's girlfriend to harass, maybe you'll end up with a black eye." I snap.

I can feel the anger coming off me in waves. Before I can further embarrass myself I grab Wyatt's hand and pull him out of there.

As we walk out, Wyatt pulls me to his side. I feel all my anger melt away.

"Thank you," I say quietly.

Wyatt scoffs. "For what? You're the one who yelled at him."

I grin and turn my head to hide it from Wyatt.
He is agitated that he didn't get to be my knight in shining armor.

I stop walking. "If you didn't show up I would probably be at the emergency room, with a broken fist."

Wyatt frowns. "I should have beat the living shit out of him."

I grin and this time I don't hide it. "Yeah, but you probably wouldn't be allowed back in there."

Wyatt laughs and pulls me back to his side. I felt safe being by his side and I don't know why?

"You're probably right."

The date continues in the next chapter!!
