Origin: Well this ship doesn't have a name yet that I'm aware of.
Opinion: So before I dive into this opinion I have a little story to share. Earlier this week I was looking through some fanart online trying to find an Ilia x Adam picture for a ship opinion I'm doing later. (I found nothing I may add.) The very last picture I found though was the first Whitley x Neo art I've seen. No I'm not gonna put it here to show you all because while it's not violent or cringey it might make some people uncomfortable and I don't want to bother anyone. So I'll describe the picture instead: it has Jacques Schnee lying on the floor of his office but he's covered in multiple bloody cuts that have obviously been done by Neo's rapier, said girl is standing (wearing her Atleasian soldier disguise) next to Whitley, Whitley is then shown saying "don't worry father the company is in good hands." So here's my opinion: I like this ship. I don't know why but I do. Looking at that picture made me ship it. If Whitely ever got tired waiting for his dad to give the company to him I can see him getting extremely frustrated. Based on what we've seen so far from him it's obvious he's very much like his father. So I can maybe picture him out in Atlas maybe running into Neo (we don't know where she went she could've gone to Atlas) and immediately not liking her. Neo on the other hand maybe would've overheard him talking and decides to help him as long as she gets something out of it. He agrees and tells her to do whatever she wants as long as he gets the company, she goes to Jacques office and basically beats him up. Whitley is pleased by this because now he gets the company and there's a chance his dad won't be telling anyone about what happened. (Ok that's a little dark I admit). Whitley then takes over the company and maybe hires Neo to help him. I can see Neo wanting to work with someone again after what happened to her old partner so maybe Whitley would be a good candidate. I realize that I just explained why I ship them in a plot that could be used for a fanfiction but hey this is a crack ship so give me a break.
