Origin: For the first ship name we have the combination of Ruby's last name and the fact that Ilia can disguise herself anytime she wants. Her Faunus traits allow her to blend in with her surroundings just by changing her skin tone. For the other ship name Ruby can move fast with her speed semblance which is handy for chasing things and of course Ilia has color changing skin which can turn all the colors of the rainbow.

Opinion: If I were to pick one girl from Team RWBY to ship Ilia with it would be Ruby. (Yes I know Ilia had a crush on Blake. That's my second pick.) Here's why: they're both very similar. Ilia had a very fairytale vision of what life in Atlas would be only to find out that her classmates were very racist toward Faunus. Ruby had a fairytale vision of what Beacon and being a huntress in general would be like and now she knows that it's going to be a lot harder then she thought and she's basically caught in a several millennial old war. What I'm saying is that both girls thought that their new lives would bring them happiness and joy but instead they've faced large amounts of sorrow. I feel if they were a couple then they could help each other with the pain that they've experienced. Maybe Ruby could help Ilia see that they're truly are some good humans in the world. Both girls have also lost one parent or in Ilia's case both parents so maybe they could bond over that as well. I just feel that because they're so similar they would be great together. And we know Ilia is a lesbian so she wouldn't mind being with a girl.
