Origin: Like Ladybug, Bumblebee, and Freezerburn, Checkmate is Weiss and Blake's team attack name in the fight in volume 2 against Roman. While Blake's main color is black and Weiss's main color is white and they are very...well... monochrome colors.
Opinion: I like this ship more then I used to. In volume 1 I hated how Weiss treated Blake and I guess Faunus in general. Yes I understand that the white fang was part of the reason that Weiss's childhood was so terrible but the fact that she took it out on Blake and almost didn't help look for her was wrong. However since I started seeing them together more and more I've started liking this ship more. They fight so well together and it was awesome of Weiss to give Blake a dust magazine for Gambol Shroud. And it was sweet when Blake checked on Weiss after Banesaw hurt her so badly. So yes I'm starting to like this ship more then I did. But it's still not my first choice for either one of them.
