Chapter 40
(A/N I finished early, so why make you wait. It's been a year, after all. :) )
Everything made sense now. The sirens, the images he saw. The siren with brown hair, the shiny pink scale... He was a siren! But, who was Bill? Where did he fit into all of this? And who, exactly was the owner of those long, brown curls?
The boy shook his head, he just needed to think. Naturally, his thoughts shifted to the ocean, the choppiness of the water. The sound of the ocean. He realized now why the water was so nostalgic for him. Settling his thoughts on one topic, those sirens from the beginning probably were his family. He had forgotten them for reasons unknown, and Bill took advantage of that. Of course, he couldn't be sure of any of this. It was simply speculation. And the large blank in his mind was positively irking. With all the warnings he was told about his captain, you'd think he would've gotten the hint somewhere along the line? He was supposed to be the smart one!
The boy probably should've been fuming with rage, but he found himself feeling downright played. He felt extremely stupid and that made him feel like a fool. All in all, he felt more humiliated than enraged.
There was a cough from afar when Dipper realized there was still someone there with him.
Jeez, couldn't he wait his turn? He was having a very important self revelation.
He was still standing there, looking somewhat interested, but mostly neutral.
"Hi. Having a nice day?" Dipper called out, mimicking the first line Tad used on him.
The man stared, easily breaking the paralyzing spell, "It'll be better once I take care of... whatever you are." he said, flames lighting around his palm.
The boy backed up, looking at the man, then to the flames. He was going to kill him? Just downright?
"Uh..." Dipper paled, trying to keep up a fearless expression, but not having any confidence to back it up.
Tad smiled, before literally appearing in front of his face, grabbing him by the collar and throwing him harshly to the ground. The boy flinched, his ankle and wrist sending sharp sparks of pain from his previous battle. The boy quickly pondered running for the water, but the lack of a functioning ankle bone convinced him otherwise. Dipper groaned, the debris of broken wood and dust clouds left him with some momentary coverage.
How could he win a battle against an all-powerful, fire-wielding demon?
A very good question.
The boy tensed when he made eye contact with Tad. The vibrant hue of violet eyes looked downright cold and heartless. He probably would have preferred Bill's manic yellow eyes instead, but he, unfortunately, was not present.
Wait, he didn't want Bill here! He was supposed to be angry with him!
"Die." Tad said simply, pointing a finger directly at the boy's head, in which the teen paled.
Dipper didn't know what to do at this point. Scrambling as far back as he could till his back met a wall, he sighed. He wasn't willing to plead for his life, this guy probably didn't want to hear it. He looked up in acceptance, if he was going to be murdered here, it was going to be memorable.
"Do it, trash." he spat, eyes narrowed on the captain, "I know you're scared of me." he claimed, attempting to roll his shoulders, but failing painfully.
He laughed, "Fear you?" he asked, looking to the side, "Not at all." he deadpanned.
Out of nowhere, there was a crack, followed by a hiss from his offender.
The finger that was once pointed at Dipper's forehead was now limp and lifeless. There was then a burst of familiar cobalt flames, that blew everything in its radius, far, far back.
There was a figure in the debris of flames, a very charismatic bounce between each foot as his trademark grin came into view.
"Pine Tree? No way you're h-" the voice murmured, eyes focused on a very injured looking Dipper.
"Pine Tree?" he repeated again, yellow eyes wide as he focused on the boy.
The boy groaned, "Hi." he said, waving half heartedly with his not broken hand.
The blonde whistled, "Oh boy, what have you done to yourself this time?" the man laughed, bending down to the brunette's level.
"Ask your brother." the boy replied nonchalantly.
"Tad?" Bill replied, like the word was new to him, "Tad." he growled.
The demon stood up tall, stretching out his arms and legs, confirmed through the loud cracks of bones and limbs in his body. His usual cheeriness was immediately dispersed, and the boy couldn't help, but wait to see what came next.
Damn "brother" deserved it for making a kid murder a father.
"Tad, Tad, Tad, Tad, Tiddly, TadTadTadTadTad Tad...." the voice drawled, which followed with a crack, a scream of protest, "Hasn't anyone told you not to touch what is mine?!"
There was more fire, the ship was surely ablaze by now. The boy could see nothing, but blue flames and the screams of both Bill and his "brother".
"You don't TAKE my things, and you certainly don't HURT my things." he shouted, the heat flared.
"Stop, Bill! You're going to kill me!" the voice protested, indigo flames joining the mix.
"Then die faster!" he replied, another crack.
"You're going to kill me over a kid?! It was just a joke!" he shouted defensively, grabbing his attackers wrist and throwing him out of the indigo and cerulean flames.
Bill landed on his feet, two large wisps ignited at his palms, "Well, I'm not laughing- am I?" Bill asked, eyes narrowed as he rolled his wrists, the flames bobbing back and forth with his movements.
A rush of purple flames came from the fire, casting a ring of flames in front of the brunette.
Dipper yelped as a very injured demon appeared at his side, two sharpened nails pointed harshly against his throat.
"If this kid means so much to you, you'll back off, Cipher." he groaned, glaring daggers at the blonde.
Bill carefully backed up, both flames going out with a fizz. His yellow eyes darting back and forth from the brunette to the demon. The boy couldn't help but notice the look of downright uneasiness in his captain's eyes.
He blinked.
Was he that important?
The boy couldn't help, but feel giddy to that. He also didn't like this trash using him as a bargaining chip.
"Back off. Slowly." Tad urged, breathing hard.
The blonde grit his teeth, but obliged, taking two more graceful steps back- black boots tapping solemnly against the wooden planks.
"Sit down, facing away from us." he said, and Bill did so, sitting cross legged with a huff of frustration.
How long would Bill be able to follow orders? The boy didn't want to know.
Lifting his other hand, Tad snapped his fingers and the blonde was paralyzed on the spot, unable to move.
"Get up, kid." Tad ordered, tugging him upwards, taking the sharp nails away from his reddened flesh.
Dipper glared towards Tad, whistling slowly, but sharply. There was a wave of sound, it was sharp and it rendered Tad immobile. For the little time it effected him, Dipper took the time to pummel the weakened demon.
"Ack!" the demon yelled, grabbing the boy by the hair, resulting in another sharp whistle from the brunette. Another wave of pure sound pulsed through his veins and he gasped for movement of his limbs.
The siren pressed harder where the demon had previously been injured, resulting in another loud scream from his opponent.
All at once, the boy used all his strength to hit the man in the temple, the shock connecting to his brain and sending him skidding to the side of the ship. His head rolled as the man lay there completely unconcious.
The boy stared at his knuckles which had turned an angry red, and he stared down, taking deep breaths. Excitement ran through his veins and he felt compelled to devour the unconcious man, leaving nothing, but whatever demons had instead of human organs. He shook his head, banishing away the cannibalistic thoughts, and his eyes snapped to the blonde that was still facing away from the whole situation, completely naive to what had just transpired.
With two hearty options, he was posed with a difficult choice. The reason why it was difficult, he did not know.
The boy could leap back into the water, find his family and leave behind this messed up life and finally learn his origin. Or, he could go back to Bill. The most probable offender of his situation.
He swallowed. Why was this such a difficult decision?
He probably should've listened to his head that was telling him everything that he should've done. But, he listened to his heart. For once, he listened to that wild, fluttering feeling of pure curiosity.
(A/N Hiya! Man, oh man! I injured Dipper AGAIN! haHA! I gotta stop. With the... injuring. Anyways. Yeah. There you have it. Their relationship is no longer built on a lie. Wow, author. BIG PAT ON THE BACK FOR YOU! )
