Chapter 35

(A/N Wrote this in third person. Tell me which you prefer. First, or third? I found it much easier writing in third, so... Heheh.)

The auburn-haired female leaned against the railing of the ship, her elbows folded as she rested her weight on the golden rail. Her eyes glazed over the moonlit waters, watching the roll of the waves. A cool ocean breeze blew her hair astray, leaving a refreshened face free of stress or worry. Her cheeks were rosy, the cold winds caressing her bare face.

She had arrived too early, her workload was lighter than expected. The girl was waiting to meet an individual that caught her eyes. Not exactly a love interest, but someone that was like her— someone that was normal.

She always felt out of it ever since Bill tossed her away, no one treated her as if she belonged. She was hopelessly miserable and had given up on ever returning home. That was until a pair of twins, both possessing a scaled tail and link with the sea appeared. One entranced with the captain, and the other bound in a fishermen's net.

Wendy hadn't been present to witness the supernatural concept called sirens that identified the twins, but she did know about Dipper's lost memories. She had heard rumours through casual eavesdropping and sneaking around the ship at night.

Bill had sworn anyone that knew into a pact of secrecy and if anyone spilled the secret, he would personally end them.

However, the redhead decided she was going to tell him, no matter what. She hadn't told him earlier in the day, because of Bill, eyeing them suspiciously. Dipper hadn't noticed, but she did. She had very keen instincts and possessed various survival skills.

Her rates for survival and adaptability is what caught Bill's attention. He must've saw a kindred spirit in her at the time.

He was stocking up on supplies, celebrating their latest, successful plunder with his crew in her parents local tavern. When they met, it was just as strangers. Bill could see the potential in her the moment they made eye contact.
Bill made the first move, as usual, flashing the most charming grins he could conjure.

They bantered back and forth, trying to outwit each other in casual wordplay.

Eventually they became infatuated with each other, and the day Bill asked her to sail with him she agreed wholeheartedly.

Far away from where she lived, at least months away from her little harbour is when the pair ran into complications.

Wendy wouldn't kill or harm others.

She had a sense of justice, and a laid-back personality. Both not mixing well with Bill's violent, manipulative personality.

However, the captain was lenient with her, the same as Dipper, but he couldn't seem to sway her to the path of evil.

That was when he decided she wasn't worth his time, he couldn't have anymore of her goody-goody act. She was lazy, incompetent, and a general nuisance altogether. Or at least, that's what Bill thought.

Wendy was moved down in the ranks to swabby, Bill had disowned the redhead to work the rest of her days cleaning the ship with a shabby mop.

The girl protested, heartbroken and angered. The captain didn't care though, he closed off his heart for what seemed eternal.

Wendy worked diligently, with no promise to return home, all she could hope was to get back onto Bill's good side, and he'd take her home to her family.

She missed her father's apocalypse tests, she missed her siblings, and she missed her old life. It was too late for her.

But, not Dipper.

She felt a strange connection to Dipper. Like he was her responsibility, perhaps a way to get back at Bill.

The door behind her creaked open, the redhead not bothering to face the boy. She had to be delicate with this kind of process. Wendy knew she had the boy's trust, but his trust in Bill was strong too.

"Ahoy Dipper." the teen greeted, speaking towards the ocean, her voice warm and friendly.

"There's something I have to tell ya." she began, speaking slowly and casually.

A pair of boots clicked against the surface, coming to stand parallel next to the female's, "I have something to tell you too, Red." a voice said sarcastically. Her movements halted momentarily from hearing Bill's voice, and the fact that he was actually speaking to her.

She reacted sluggishly, trying to distance herself from the imminent threat, but the captain was quick. He grabbed her by the neck, twisting it awkwardly. The girl yelped, glaring at her attacker with angered green eyes. Even though she could barely speak, she didn't give up trying to claw her way out of his grip.

The captain's golden eyes gleamed as he stared at the helpless person trapped in his hands. He had been waiting a long time to finally get Wendy out of his domain once and for all.

He knew he made mistakes when trying to manipulate her, and it completely discouraged him from finding his 'perfect' underling when Wendy turned out to be a huge failure. It was then that he realized that he needed someone more weird. Unique, and something that would never bore him.

When the twins appeared, he set his sights on the female, but after getting to know her high-strung enthusiasm and cheeriness, Bill concluded he wouldn't be able to handle it.

Dipper, however was seemingly perfect. Easy to manipulate, level-headed, and brave. Sure, he was trying to be the hero, but Bill could see it was all for his sister in the end. If he removed her from the equation then where would all his compassion go? That's right, nowhere. His heart would go empty.

The captain's plans were going swimmingly, until he noticed another nuisance had wriggled her way back in. She would ruin everything he had in store for Dipper. He could see the friendliness and trust Dipper had towards Wendy and he hated it. He wouldn't admit he was jealous, but he was seething with envy.

Wendy, still being strangled by Bill was breathing her last. Her eyes were blurring and the captain looked at her with a sly smile.

"You're in the way, Red." he said simply, his grip tightening.

The female couldn't even scream, many thoughts buzzing through her head.

Her eyes skittered around looking for something to buy herself some time.

"L...et go..." Wendy choked, trying to use brute force to pry Bill's hands from her.

That resulted in a burning feeling on her neck. The captain must've gotten bored, and decided to ignite a handful of flames across the surface of her neck.

Bill faked an apologetic face, "Oh, is it too cold? Let me turn it up a notch!" he laughed maniacally, the flesh of her skin whitening.

Wendy kicked him hard in the gut, digging her boot into his coat. Bill yelped, worried she stained his jacket.

His grip loosened and she bit down hard, making him even more concerned for his gloves.

"Okay, really? That's not very nice." Bill pouted, inspecting the holes in his gloves.

The redhead growled, clutching the intense burns on her neck.

What the two weren't aware of was the young boy hidden in the back, watching the entire thing for every detail. A boy very important to the both of them. He was horrified at what was happening, shocked Bill had this kind of side to him.

He hadn't been able to move, if Bill knew Dipper was there, Wendy's chance of survival would be a dead 0%.

Though, the teen considered acting, because she almost got strangled to death. He swore to make a move the next time Bill attacked her.

"Listen, Cipher. He's going to figure what you did, and there's nothing you can do bout it!" the girl said angrily, her voice hoarse and dry.

The captain shrugged effortlessly, "So, what? He can't escape me." he said, smiling all the while.

Dipper bit his lip, he was probably right— being surrounded by an endless body of water. If only he could breathe underwater, or something!

"He will get away, Bill. He's a smart kid." she bragged, taking another step back.

Bill's eyes lightened up, "Yes, indeed! I love that about him." he grinned, his face proud.

The swabby was taken aback by that. He showed a great affection for Dipper, and the two had barely known each other for more than a few days.

Wendy snarled, backing away while Bill walked forward, "Anyways, I've gotta kill you. Pine Tree should be here soon." the captain huffed, lazily pulling a golden longsword out of his sheath.

Wendy, however had jumped onto the railing.

"Not by your hands." Wendy muttered, looking nervously at the violent waters below her.

Bill smirked, his expression interested. He placed his hand on Wendy's stomach, lightly tapping her. The girl didn't know what came over her, but she lost her balance, her body plunging into the darkened waters.

"Oh, sorry! I didn't hear what you said while I was KILLING YOU WITH MY OWN TWO HANDS." the captain taunted, his voice sounding much more vile and demonic.

Wendy plummeted to the water, her expression surprised, mouth agape. Her face soon turned into something livid while her body crashed into the sea, becoming a dark silhouette as it sunk deeper and deeper. She struggled in the waters, but the sailor didn't know how to swim. She flailed her arms, screaming for help.

"Can you just shut up and die?!" Bill shouted back, crossing his arms angrily.

Dipper suppressed a scream, covering his mouth with both hands. The teen was sweating, his breathing ragged.

"Come on, Dipper." Dipper whispered to himself, "i-it's not too late, Dipper!" he mumbled again and again.

He willed his legs to obey, stepping slowly out of his hiding spot.

Bill's back was turned, facing the ocean, "Look, just stop breathing. It's really easy." the captain growled, looking frustrated.

He wished he stabbed her first, but he didn't. She was a past business partner, a horrible, inexperienced business partner.
Nonetheless, he still wanted to be courteous.

Dipper stepped towards him, his thoughts swirling in his head.

His breathing was still heavy, and he knew Bill probably wouldn't hesitate in killing him too.

It took an immense amount of effort to get his heartbeat and breathing back to normal, but he managed.

Bill heard the creak of wood against the surface of the ship, and he flinched, "...Dipper?" he murmured cautiously.

The boy grit his teeth angrily, a puff of warm air escaping his mouth, "Save her, Bill!" he shouted, trying to sound as intimidating as he possibly could.

Bill's smile faltered, "I messed up." he sighed, his grin turning into a glare.

(A/N Lemme guess, some of you (most of you) thought I was going to throw in some subtle WENDIP, right? HAH! THAT'S WHERE YOU'RE WRONG! I, uh... had no such plans.)
