Chapter 32

(A/N Alright, sorry guys! Few days late, but I procrastinated! Well, here it is. Enjoy!)

Sunlight peaked through the triangular window, I could hear loose papers shuffling in the room, being swept by the wind. I squinted, blinking slowly to adjust myself to the daylight. A fresh breeze was drafting into the room, sweeping against my face. I could hear the relaxing swish of water outside, not the regular clash of waves Like yesterday. Well, at least this was a nice wake-up call from nature.

I yawned, stretching out my muscles in order to wake myself up. Propping myself up to lean on the headboard of the bed, I looked around at my surroundings. My room was still how I left it, books astray and literally nothing in its place— err at least, that's how Bill explained it. I can't believe I was such a messy guy. I should probably clean the room, but it's not really that big of a deal, anyways. As long as I can find everything I need, right?

I realized today was my first day on the job! Practically leaping out of bed, I stumbled towards the closet, my feet thudding loudly against the wooden floor.

My fingers brushed over the pile of clothes, eyeing them with curiosity. With so many clothes to choose from, I decided to just pick something basic. I picked up a white, linen shirt and a pair of brown breeches. Breeches were a type of pants that were tight near the waist, but became looser near the knee-to-boot area. I had read about these clothes before, but I haven't tried them firsthand.

I struggled with the shirt, the many buttons were frustrating, and when I thought I had it, the buttons were misaligned. I gave up, and left it. The breeches were an easier case, there wasn't anything with buttons. It had two drawstrings to tighten the waistline and that was about it.

The change of clothes felt a lot more comfortable, luckily. The clothes I was wearing before were way too big for me for some reason. I guess I stretched them out somehow?

I pulled on a pair of leather boots that were just my size, and tucked the bottom of the pants into them. The boots were nice, with leather straps and silver buckles. Conveniently, the straps and buckles seemed to be permanently glued on, and they were probably mostly for decoration. I slipped on a nice brown vest with huge pockets on the inside. How convenient! I could keep like a... journal in here!

Eyeing the many swords and rapiers mounted on the wall, I picked the most basic-looking one. I wasn't a fan of standing out, plus the decorative ones would chip, or break easier—probably. The sword I had chosen felt heavy in my hands, it had a silver, rectangular hilt, and a long blade about the size of my arm. I won't lie, but my arm was already getting tired from holding it.

I decided to go for something lighter, picking up one a bit shorter in length. Holding the second sword in my hand had a better, fleeting feeling. Ah, that was better.

Strapping the sword at my side, I decided that I'd spent too much time dilly-dallying with what kind of clothes I was going to wear, and it was time to go meet the crew, or whatever Bill had planned for the day.

I made my way to the wooden door that led out of the room. I peeked my head out, seeing nothing but a long hallway. I don't know why I was being so cautious, but I felt uneasy. I pushed the door open, and walked out. Sure enough, there was no one there. Letting out a relieved sigh, I shut the door to my room and continued down the hallway. Each step I took left a loud creak that echoed throughout the closed space. There were many other doors besides mine that lined the corridor.

Curiously, I tried turning one of the knobs. As expected, it was locked. I could hear soft snoring on the other side, So, this hallway must be crew members rooms. I was trying to familiarize myself with the place in hopes of jogging my lost memories. It felt really unsettling to not know anything about the place I was in.

I'd have to go through my room and read some of the books when I had the time for a remediation of sorts.

I saw two wooden double doors, and the sound of the ocean was much louder, even with the door muffling the sounds. Carved in the wood was a golden triangle , with a detailed eye sitting proudly in the center. It was kind of eerie. but it made me feel protected. Like, I would always be under the watchful eye of the ship.

I pushed the door open, the sound of wood scraping against the floor filling my ears. I could now hear the chatter that immersed the deck. However, they all halted their conversations to stare at me. I nervously tugged at my collar, feeling the intensity of everyone's attention now on me. What am I supposed to do? Am I a higher-up, or something?

Taking a deep breath, I gave them all a subtle nod, trying not to make eye contact with one person for too long. They all laughed in response, probably finding my plain gesture hilarious? I shook my head, watching my brown, whirls of hair bob up and down in front of my eyes.

"Aww, the rookie's got it tough!" a girl grinned, strolling over to me.

The person standing before me had a skinny build, with a mop of red, curly locks that draped behind her back. She had a splatter of freckles, and a pale complexion. Wearing similar clothes to mine, and a sword strapped at her side. What stood out most to me was her jolly grin, way too cool for me, in my opinion.

"Oi! Are ye listening?" she laughed, waving her hands in front of my face carelessly.

I scowled without realizing, and she looked slightly offended.

"Ah, sorry. I've had a lot of thoughts on my mind... since I got here." I mumbled, staring at the main deck, pressing my index fingers together nervously.

She gave me an apologetic look, "Yessir. I heard about that, mate. Real unfortunate turn o' events, huh?" she said, her voice dripping with pity.

She then smiled, patting my shoulder, "Don't worry though! We've all been through something tragic here! Even me... but, it's best to stay on the bright side." she added reassuringly.

I sighed, attempting to smile back, "Thanks." I said briefly, turning away.

I couldn't tell for sure, but my face felt hot, making me wonder if my face beet red.

Her eyes widened, lifting a finger, "Oh, right! How could I forget! I'm here to tell you a lil bit 'bout how things work on this here ship!" she explained.

I nodded, "Oh, sure! Miss..." I faltered, not knowing her name.

She smiled, then did a short curtesy, "Wendy Corduroy, Wen for short." she winked, laughing all the while.

"Dipper. Dipper Pines." I introduced, smiling lightly. I couldn't help, but feel nervous around her. Gosh, even after my memories being wiped... I was still awkward with girls...

Wait, what? I was still awkward with girls? That's a memory right there!

Snapping me out of my thoughts, the redhead grinned, whistling loudly, "Dipper, huh? Like the stars!" she proposed, pointing upwards at the plain, blue sky.

I looked up, but saw nothing. Not even a cloud.

"Stars? What's that?" I asked, looking for anything that stood out in the sky.

Wendy's mouth hung open for a good ten seconds, staring at me like I was a lunatic, "The lad's never seen a star! It's like you've been living at the bottom of the sea!" the girl suggested, continuing to stare at me with disbelief.

I coughed, not really in the mood for this small-talk, and blows to my self confidence, "Yeah, I might've forgotten that too..." I sighed.

"But, Bill might be able to help." I added, looking around, in hopes of seeing the infamous captain.

Wendy slapped me on the back, laughing even louder, "Hah! The cap'n? He doesn't pay attention to people like us! He has a special group of pirates that are the 'real' crew," the girl paused, moving in closer, "and they aren't human. They're monsters." she whispered, looking around to make sure no one was watching.

"Eh? But... I talked to him yesterday. And monsters? That's a joke, right?" I laughed, noticing Wendy wasn't laughing with me.

Her eyes drooped for the first time in our whole conversation, "Oh... I see. When the Cap'n talks to a human, they usually end up dead within the week." she said sadly, staring at me with apologetic eyes.

I lifted my hands in protest, "No, no! I'm sure it's not like that! Bill seems like a nice guy!" I said.

"Why, thank you, Pine Tree!" a voice came up from behind me.

I saw Wendy's expression shift to something more fearful.

A pair of hands landed on my shoulders, forcefully spinning me around to face him.

I looked up at the man towering above me, a sly grin painted over his face.

He looked at Wendy briefly, and she slowly backed off, "S-see ya later, Dipper. I forgot I had some chores to do... I'll show ye the stars sometime!" she said, backing away nervously.

"Yeah! Later!" I shouted, hoping she would still hear me over the chatter of the crew.

Bill looked at me with his good eye, frowning ever so slightly.

"Why are you talking to her?" he asked, his voice funny, disgusted even.

I shrugged, "Why not?" I replied nonchalantly, "Do you hate her, or something?" I added, glancing at him before staring at the ground.

The pirate sighed, walking circles around me, "She was interesting in the beginning, but then she got boring. Super boring." Bill complained, waving his arms around.

"That's a pretty lame excuse, Bill!" I laughed.

His facial expression became flustered for a brief second upon hearing his first name, but quickly recovered. He laughed too, "Yeah, my obsessions are pretty short." he agreed, looking away mischievously.

His eyes then shifted to my chest area, looking it up and down.

"Your shirt's messed up." he said bluntly, looking at the misaligned buttons I had been too lazy to fix.

I didn't really care much about how stupid it looked, and no one else would care either.

"Yeah, I didn't bother to fix it." I answered casually.

Bill smirked at my reply, readjusting the buttons on my shirt with ease. I stared at him as he focused on the buttons of my shirt. He really was a nice guy!

After Wendy's warning and her fearful look, I was a bit suspicious. Anyone would be! But, he hasn't shown anything that I would deem a 'bad' person.

The captain stared at me with a single golden eye. A simple smile was painted over his face, "Oh yeah! Pine Tree, I want to introduce you to my crew!" Bill said with much more enthusiasm.

He walked across the deck, people parting to make a path with each at step we took. Bill paid no attention to the entire crew, and I was slightly confused why he wasn't introducing me to them. I walked behind him, looking at the many crew members that were staring at us. I saw a lot of dirty looks, sneering at me as I passed by.

Oh, this didn't feel good at all. They had no reason to hate me! I don't think.

Bill walked up a flight of wooden stairs, leading to the upper deck. The wind was more strong here, and a huge wooden wheel was set up here. A few people were up here, leaning on the railings, or playing card games on the ground.

"Tch! You always have that one up your sleeve!" a girl yelled, slamming the cards down in an angry rage.

I looked her over, pink skin and fuchsia hair. Now, you don't see that everyday.

A male laughed in reply, "Pyro, you're never going to win. Like, ever."

As I watched them, I could conclude they were doing absolutely no work at all.

Bill coughed, placing his hands on his hips, "Line up, scallywags!" he shouted, slamming his boot against the ground.

They looked up from whatever they were doing, and merged to form a line.

Some of them looked at me with interest, or sly grins. Some pretended I didn't exist.

"Really, Bill? Scallywags? I'm internally crying." one of them laughed.

Bill glared at him, "I can make you cry externally too." he said, the crowd oohing at his reply.

The other immediately backed off, "No thanks. Sorry, cap'n." he said, attempting an earnest smile.

Bill then walked to the beginning of the line, pointing to the first person.

"This is 8 Ball! We just call him Eight." Bill said, gesturing to the tall, skinny man.

He had moss, green hair, and skin tinted green. He looked at me curiously, before looking away.

Bill eyed him, "Introduce yourself." he ordered.

"...Eight. They call me Eight." he finally said, looking at the captain for approval.

He nodded approvingly and moved down the line, "And this is Kryptos," he said, "I don't like the guy, so we're going to move on." he sang, walking down the line once again.

I watched Kryptos squint his eye in anger. He had grey hair, and an eyepatch, with fairly pale skin. He was also pretty short.

Bill stopped at a big guy, "And this guy... is Xanther. Apparently some witch cursed his name, and if someone said it aloud, the world would end," the captain said looking at the sky, "but y'know, nothing happened." he laughed, patting the brutes back.

He was muscular, and had dark blue hair, with a bit of stubble, "You... call me Xan. If you, like...fear the world ending..." he muttered, looking at me.

I nodded, "Okay, Xan." I replied. The whole crew eyed me cautiously, had I interrupted their introductions?

The crews eyes went from me to Bill, but he didn't react at all, and simply kept moving on.

Bill grinned, "This is Teeth. He doesn't shut up." he said, gesturing to a little guy with red hair.

"You're givin' me a toothache from all these introductions!" he shouted, laughing wildly at his own joke.

I cringed, and many others eyed him with disgust.

Bill, however laughed whole heartedly, slapping the little guy over with full force.

"Good one!" he laughed, watching the guy recover from having his face smashed against the wood.

"Anytime, Bill. You have some real nerve to love my jokes!" Teeth added, resulting in another fit of laughter from Bill.

I slowly edged my way to the remaining five crew mates.

A guy about the same size as Teeth glanced at me, then chuckled, "He's really taken a liking to ya, huh?" he smiled.

"Don't tease the kid, Key!" another shouted, punching him lightly in the shoulder.

"Whatever, Amorphous." Keyhole grumbled, smirking.

"Guys, are you saying your own names to make it more convenient for the kid?" the pink girl commented, face-palming.

She looked at me, holding out her hand, "Pyronica. And you are?" she asked, smiling wildly.

I took her hand, shaking firmly, "Dipper." I said in a friendly tone.

The one named Pyronica was wearing clothes like mine, except dyed pink. She had a sharp set of canines whenever she laughed. They really were monsters, hard to believe.

The other two, Key and Amorphous were wrestling it out. I could tell where Key got his name from, he had sets of keys jingling against his belt and a mop of ivy-coloured hair.

Amorphous was dressed in many bright colours, his hair spiked and rainbow-like. It was hard not to laugh, watching them roll around, trying to immobilize each other.

"I hate this timeline." one in a peculiar hat grumbled.

I then saw Bill one punch the man, sending him flying into the wall.

Bill stood in his place, glaring in the direction where he had landed, "There was something on your face, Hector." he said darkly, holding up a bloody knuckle.

Hector grunted, pulling himself out of the debris. Patting his clothes, he stroked his curly moustache.

Pyronica groaned, "Not you too, Bill." she sighed.

I had learned everyones names in the most time-efficient way.

Breaking the silence, I laughed loudly, others joining in. Bill even joined in, Teeth continuing to make bad puns like nothing ever happened.

I gotta admit, these guys were pretty funny and unique. I think I still prefer Wendy, though.

"I've killed thousands." a voice deep voice said.

Keyhole sighed, "That's Paci. He, uh. He doesn't say anything, but that."

Bill slung an arm around my shoulder, "Don't mind him. So, what do you think?" he asked, grinning proudly.

"You all seem pretty nice." I commented, attempting to smile while in Bill's chokehold.

(A/N.... I'm just gonna end it here. Okay, okay. I know this chapter has A LOT OF NEW CHARACTERS. You might be confused, but I just added all Bill's friends from Weirdmageddon. I'll probably make them insignificant later on, but they do serve a purpose. I don't have a lot of confidence in this chapter, but I have big plans! So, yeah. Truuuust me. I am a completely TRUSTWORTHY person!)
