Chapter 28

Sorry this is so late! I'm in the middle of exams, which is extremely important for my future. Well, unless I want to be a serial killer. ;)

Recap: Bill assumed Dipper had been dealt with, but he managed to survive, peaking his interest. Mabel and Dipper were about to escape, when Bill and his crew found them, grabbing Dipper's arm before he unsheathed his knife.

Dippers POV

I've had it with this stuck up simpleton. I broke free of his iron grip, by twisting my arm, I could feel the burn as my skin was twisted in knots. I suppressed a yelp, and a cool sensation washed over me when I was out of his reach. The place where he gripped was beat red, but it felt much better.

Bill seemed entertained the course of action I took in order to free myself. He let out a small whistle showing his approval. I reached for the blade at my side, unsheathing it, pointing it towards the captain. He grinned, eyeing the metallic blade, not even bothering to reach for his own sword.

He was looking down on me?

The crew mates were silent, heavy aromas of liquor lingered throughout the air.

Bill smiled, "What's wrong, kid? Not gonna attack me?" he laughed, flashing his pearly whites.

"Shut up! I'm thinking!" I shouted back bluntly, looking nervously behind me, I couldn't shed blood in front of Mabel. It would really hurt her, much less hurt me. I've never killed a human, or anything before.

He raised a brow at my remark, then resumed his confident, intimidating stance.

I thought about my options, if I were to fight Bill, there were numerous scenarios. I could defeat him, and escape with Mabel, but the chances of that were unlikely. There's also a high probability I would get killed in the process, and Mabel will be taken away with no way for her to escape. Then, it came to me. We could both flee, Dipper, you idiot! Our backs are facing the open sea, all we had to do was jump!

With that, I turned on my heel, grabbing Mabel and lunging into the ocean, carrying her like a shooting star. My legs began to morph into a tail, and I carried a surprised Mabel with me. I could see Bill remain with his odd, peculiar smile, watching as we made our escape. How odd...

I looked down at Mabel, she was laughing, "Genius, Dipper!" she said, ruffling my hair, splashing me with the ocean water.

I laughed too, "In your face, Bill! Didn't expect a couple of kids to outsmart you, huh!" I shouted to no one in particular.

I looked down, the waters were lit up due to my ability to see during the night. None of our friends were out and about, they were most likely sleeping. I couldn't wait to go back to Grunkle Stan, and Great Uncle Ford.

Mabel's laughing slowly died down, as she started to shiver.

"Dipper... it's really cold, huh." she commented, her grip on me loosening a bit.

"Not really." I replied nonchalantly, looking for a good place to dive.

"Oh..." she said, with less enthusiasm.

I turned around, focusing on her. Her skin was kind of blue, and she was shivering a lot. What was going on?

"Mabel? What's the matter?" I asked, noticing her legs still haven't reverted back to their original structure.

"Nothing Dipping-sauce. Just a bit cold." she whispered, exhaling deeply.

I understood what was happening. She was suffering from hypothermia, a human illness that occurs when body heat drops significantly. I wracked my brain for a way to warm her up, realizing why Bill was smiling so coyly. He knew that we needed him.

Without anytime to spare, I swam back to where the boat was anchored down. Hadn't moved an inch. I lifted Mabel onto the deck, laying her on her back. I morphed into a human, dry clothes reappearing where they once were. The process of transforming was still strange and weird to me.

I looked at Mabel. She took deep breaths, her clothes were soaked and heavy. I held her hand, it was really cold. Siren's are cold blooded, so I thought it was a norm for humans. Bill's hands were cold too.

I sat there, unsure how to help her. I removed the thick layers of clothes, that were weighing Mabel down, leaving her in a damp t-shirt, and skirt. Yikes, her sweaters absorbed a lot of water. No wonder she froze so fast. I could see two pairs of leather boots a few feet away from me. I didn't even have to look up, he was grinning victoriously and I knew.

"Heya, Pine Tree! Long time no see," he chimed, kneeling down to my level, "how about we continue where we left off..?" he whispered darkly.

"Are you kidding me?! Help her! She's your 'lover', right?!" I shouted, losing my cool.

He didn't even look once at Mabel, his only interest was finishing the dispute with him and I. Bill seemed to ponder this for a moment, then snapped his fingers.

"Men! Take Shooting Star, and warm her up, or something!" he shouted, a few crew mates appearing from the corner to pick her up and haul her away. One of them eyed me, it was a look of pity.

"Now then..." Bill said, bringing his attention back to me.

I looked at him, "Listen... we've gotten off on a bad start, and—" but he cut me off with a large hand covering my mouth and nose. I struggled to unclamp his hand, the lack of oxygen making me struggle.
I pried at the hands, and he just glared at me, bringing his other hand to hold the back of my head. I couldn't move, nor could I breath. I tried to morph into a siren, but for some reason I couldn't do it this time. He smiled at me, as my vision began to get hazy.

"Sweet dreams, Pine Tree." he hummed.

Bill's POV

I watched the kid fall limp in my arms. Why I decided to not kill him? I have no idea. Everything he's done has been for Shooting Star, and never once has he done something she would not like. It reminded me of my past, his loyalty, his determined eyes. It left me feeling very unsettled inside, killing him just didn't feel right. Maybe we did get off on a bad start, I didn't have to be so cruel, but I was just feeling so jealous inside. So terribly jealous.

Well, whatever. I slung the kid over my shoulder, he was lighter than Mabel. Hahaha! I walked down the deck, my boots clicking against the wooden surface. A few crewmen greeted me, then paused when they saw the kid slung carelessly over my shoulder.

Phinx, my boatswain looked at me with his good eye, "Haven't killed him yet, ey Cap'n? Gonna torture 'em some?" the man asked, poking the body with his finger.

I swatted his hand away, "None of your business, Phinx." I responded, then continued walking.

Phinx shrugged, then walked off to go converse with some other mate's still awake at this time of night.

I unlocked the door to my quarters, stepping inside. The room was still untouched, and clean. I don't want nosy people looking around my stuff, because if they found something I considered important... well they'd be dead.

I threw the kid on the bed, his head knocking against the headboard with a loud bang. Oops. He still didn't wake, so I guess he'd be fine? I pulled off my long coat, then the decorative hat showing a messy mop of blonde and brown hair. Using my fingers to comb through it, I stole a glance at Pine Tree. His mouth was hanging wide open, his chest rising up and down. I sat down in the armchair in the corner, resting my elbow on the arm rest, bringing my fingers to my chin I stared at the peculiar organism inhabiting my bed. How could he have used my magic to become a half-breed? Throughout all my adventures, I've never met a siren, much less a human and siren. If I tried this on Mabel, would she have the same reaction? Oh, Mabel. I've forgotten all about her. Wondering if she was okay, I stood up opening the door to leave. Taking one last look at Pine Tree, I closed the door and locked it. Making my way down the corridor, I came to my crewmen's quarters. Mabel was set down near a... FIRE?

My eye's widened, "YOU FUCKING IDIOTS, WHO THE FUCK MAKES A FIRE... ON A WOODEN BOAT?!" I shouted, dousing the flames with my foot.

Gunk hobbled up to me, begging for forgiveness, "Cap'n! Sorry, we... we weren't thinking straight!" he pleaded, watching Mabel stir in her sleep, "She just looked so cold!"

I was not a forgiving man, the paint had been ruined and half the floor had been scorched. I mean, WHO starts a fire on a ship. There are SAFETY precautions. I grit my teeth, I could feel my blood boil, and then I reached for my blade.

"Who did it." I said darkly, scanning the crowd of men.

A moment of silence passed, when one person stepped out, it was my swabbie, Grunt.

Grunt's POV

I stepped nervously towards the captain. His eyes looked so emotionless, and hateful. I was just a person that cleaned the deck, logic was not apart of the job description.

"It was m-me, cap'n." I stuttered, looking him fearfully in the eyes.

I could feel the tension, and all the pity in my crew mates eyes.

Bill looked at me calmly, then I saw his sword dance quite elegantly. Next thing I realized was my hand... was on the ground. I tried to cover my mouth at the bile that was coming up my throat, but I was greeted with a fingerless, fleshy hand. I threw up, Phinx grabbed my side, steadying me as I threw up everything I had left. He... he cut off my hand!

Bill's eyes seemed to be glazed with a lack of emotion. He just stared. It scared me. My mates helped wrap the wound and carried me away.

Honestly, the captain would never show mercy to anyone.

Alright, kids. There you go! Update might be tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, whenever. If you see a grammar error, feel free to correct it I don't have time to proofread it!
