Gemma and Danny- Part 1
Gemma was in her garage with the big door open, fixing her bike, when Danny skateboarded in. He stopped and almost fell off, his face red. Gemma didn't even need to ask what happened, this situation was so familiar.
"Who's chasing you?" she asked almost boredly.
"This guy... He thinks I spray-painted his fence," Danny panted. He looked around the garage nervously, as if he thought the guy was hiding in there, waiting for him.
"Did you?"
"None of your business."
Gemma took that as a 'yes'. "So... What do want me to do?"
"Close this door, for starters."
Gemma wiped the grease off her hands and tried to pull the big metal door closed. Her family didn't have any fancy electric garage door opener. They only used it as a workshop, so there was no need for cars to be able to get in easily. But Gemma liked the natural light, so she kept it open.
"And, uh, I was wondering if I could stay in your house for a bit? You know, until he forgets about me," Danny added as Gemma wrestled with the door. Finally, with a loud squeak, bang, and crash, it closed.
Gemma sighed. "Fine. I have cookies, so that should keep you occupied."

Danny had always liked the inside of Gemma's house. It was mostly wood, which reminded him of a cottage. But it had electricity, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning, so it was better than a cottage.
A face peeked out of a doorway. "Hey, Cecil," said Danny, waving. The kid waved back, and disappeared back inside his room.
Danny wondered what the kid did all day. He rarely left his room. Nothing like the adventures he, Gemma, and Megan went on.
Gemma came back with the cookies. "So, tell me why you spray painted this guy's fence." She took a bite of her cookie.
"His dog kept chasing me on my skateboard. Finally I had enough," Damny lied, hoping his excuse would work. Gemma didn't approve of crime without reason. But if he had some reason, she might let him off the hook.
Gemma just stared at him pointedly. Dam. It hadn't worked.
Danny sighed. "Okay, fine. His fence looked completely horrible and I was bored, so I decided it needed a new paint job."
"You know that's wrong," scolded Gemma.
"Yeah, yeah." Danny cut her off before she could start lecturing him. "Got it, Mom. Are we still going to BDI tonight?"
"When does it close?"
"Eleven."
Gemma grinned. "I'll be there."
