Close your eyes... what do you see?

Pitch black? Swirling colors? Big and small orbs of brightness? Sounds a lot like space, doesn't it?

Step into the void. It's okay.

"Hey, I see you made it to the pause space. Welcome." 

You find yourself in a fairly empty room, nothing more than a bed, desk, and large window. Fairy light strung around walls kept it dimly lit. 

A misty figure sits at the desk.

"What is this? Well, it's an imaginary space for you to come to when you're feeling sad, lonely, or just bored. It's a little empty right now, but you can decorate it however you want. It doesn't even have to be this room. You get to create a space that makes you feel comfortable and do whatever you want here."

"And who am I? Well, the creator calls me Mist (on the nose, we know), but you can call me whatever you like. The creator also made me gender-neutral, so you can perceive me as someone of any gender you'd feel most comfortable being around. Or lack of gender, you get the gist."

"I'm rather shapeless right now, but you can use your imagination to fill me in. Add whatever little details you want, like horns or fangs. I think having horns would be pretty cool. I don't even have to be human, really. "

Mist pauses to look out the window. It's raining. A soft, gentle pitter-patter against the glass. 

"It rains here a lot, but I like it. I think it's calming. Do you like rain?"

Mist hums and nods softly, and then they go silent, resuming what they were doing before you came. They want you to look around and get used to the new space. What changes will you make?

Look outside. What do you see? What do you want to see?

A bustling cityscape?

A rainy meadow?

You can be anywhere you want right now. This is all for you.

Mist turns back to talk to you.

"Do you think you could like it here? I know your time here is short, and you can't stay long, but I really hope we can become friends. You can come visit whenever you have time, and we could get to know each other. I hear the world out there where you and the creator live can be tough and scary. I...I wanna help ease that pain a little."

"Oh, and before you go, I just realized I never got your name! What do you like to call yourself?"

"That's a nice name; I like it."

Mist shows you what they've been working on. 

It's an origami crane!

"Maybe you and I can make some when you get back? If you want to come back, that is. I'd like to see you again. In the meantime, be careful out there, okay?"

They wave goodbye to you.

When you're ready to leave, step back through the void again.
