Chapter two
(The main character Lucas belongs to @AriaNightmare from her book Omens. Go check it out!)
"That's our school?" Lucas exclaimed, shocked. The crowd of students that were going into the school went around him, some casting him odd looks as they went by. Lucas and Wyatt were standing in front of the entrance gates, Lucas gaping at the building. The school was a large nightmarish looking place, like a school out of a horror film. Though that might have been the point. "Are you. . . Ok?" Wyatt asked dully. Lucas closed his mouth and swallowed. "Yeah. . . Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just a little. . . Never mind. Let's go." He strode forward, Wyatt trudging after him. Damn scary building. Damn stupid school. Ugh. . . He pushed his way into the front entrance and stopped short. The school actually. . . Looked pretty normal on the inside. Same metal lockers. Same sheer bright lights shining overhead. Same long hallways. Same spotless floor (well maybe not the last one in normal schools). Of course there were still some weird things that set it aside from other schools. He saw that a bulletin board to his right was plastered with weird posters sporting advertisements for clubs and friendly reminders from the teachers like, "Let's stop shedding in hallways!" And "Love flying? Come on over to the Flight Sports club!" And stuff like that. Of course the students were far from normal as well.
But aside from that, the school looked, well, ordinary. Wyatt stared out into the hallway, eyes slightly glazed over. "Yeah. It's pretty boring huh? Don't worry, though. There are a bunch of student lounges. And clubs. Stuff like that." He squinted at the bulletin board. "Oh. The Roasting club is looking for new members. Huh. The last one must have dropped out or something." "Roasting?" Lucas asked. "Yeah. You know, for kids who breathe or have fire. They roast things." Wyatt started walking down the hallway, making Lucas follow this time. "Hey," Lucas grabbed Wyatt's arm. "I gotta go to the office. I need my schedule." Wyatt stopped and stared at him blankly. "Oh. Ok." He began walking again. He led Lucas up a few flight of stairs and brought him to a door with a sign next to it that read "Office" in big letters. "Ok." He said, stopping at the door. "Here's the office." "Thanks," Lucas pulled open the door and walked in. His breath caught in his throat when he saw the secretary sitting at it's desk. It was a big lumpy purple creature with multiple eyes all over it's body and five tentacle like arms. It seemed to be reading a stack of papers, while writing something on a clipboard, whilst also playing on it's phone, all at once. Lucas wanted to turn around and stomp right back out of the room, but swallowed and held his ground.
"Um. . ." He approached the desk cautiously. "Excuse me?" Three of it's eyes looked up at him. One of the eyes blinked, making a wet squishing sound. He fought the urge to run away and instead coughed into his fist. "May I- May I please have my schedule and locker combination?" The creature put down the phone and pulled open one of the drawers. After sifting through it for a couple seconds, it pulled out a sheet of paper and handed it to him. Lucas took the paper, making sure to keep his fingers away from it's tentacle to avoid touching. "Thanks." The creature blinked a few of it's eyes in reply. Suppressing a shudder, Lucas left the office, nearly smacking Wyatt with the door in his haste to leave. "Oh," He quickly closed the door. "Sorry. I didn't know you were still standing there." Wyatt's face was blank. "That's ok." Lucas read his schedule.

Underneath the schedule was his locker combination and locker. "What locker do you have?" Wyatt asked. "46." "Oh. I have locker 32." Wyatt shifted and looked over at the clock. It was twelve seventeen. "I'll take you to. . . Your locker. If you want," Wyatt droned. Lucas couldn't help but feel slightly irritated. By now Lucas could tell that Wyatt's personality was just naturally slow, like he said. But seriously, did he have to act like a sleepy sloth? Geez. Lucas let out a sigh. "Yeah, fine, whatever." Wyatt turned and made his way downstairs, Lucas walking after him. On their way down, Lucas noticed a group of girls talking to each other in a corner. What made him notice them, was that they were all exceptionally attractive. A tall girl with fair light purple skin, glossy black hair, and a top hourglass body, watched him intently as he went by. He felt his cheeks grow warm and he tried to quicken his pace. The girls giggled and the tall girl winked. Lucas's face was hot as he practically stumbled down the stairs.
"Are you ok?" Wyatt inquired when he noticed Lucas's red face. Lucas cleared his throat and rubbed the back of his neck uneasily. "Y-yeah yeah I'm- I'm fine." Wyatt looked disbelieving for a brief second then shrugged it off. "Ok. If you say so." By now Wyatt had led Lucas to his new locker. Lucas turned his face away from him, pretending to be busy with opening it. His face was still a bit warm. He was NOT good with girls. Never had been, doubt he ever will be. He felt someone nudge his shoulder and turned to see who it was. A girl looked back at him and blinked. "Oh sorry." She left and walked down to a locker that was four down from his. Lucas looked back at his locker, uninterested at first but then immediately did a double take. The girl was short, with tan skin, very dark brown eyes, and short curly black hair. She had a curvy body type and was wearing the normal school uniform with grey shorts under the skirt and mis-match color socks. What he was most surprised about though, was that she was completely normal looking.
No horns, ears, or tails. No fangs, or extra body parts, or weird colored hair, eyes or skin. No rotting flesh or stitches or missing extremities. No anything. She just looked. . . Human. "Ah," Wyatt said near Lucas's ear, startling him. "You've met Aria." "Aria?" Lucas glanced back over at her. "What kind of monster is she?" Wyatt shook his head. "She's a human." Lucas's jaw sagged with shock. "What? I thought humans don't go here!" "She does. She's not full human," Wyatt explained in an expressionless voice. "She's half human. Half monster. But the only human that goes here." Lucas stared over at Aria. No way. He was told that aside from his parents, there where hardly an humans in The Underground at all. He hadn't even thought of there being half humans. He watched as Aria took out a thick text book and closed her locker. A dark green boy came over to her and slammed a hand onto her locker. "Hey Half," He sneered. Aria gave the boy a "Wth" face. "What do you want?" She asked coldly. Lucas could tell the boy wasn't expecting that kind of reply because he immediately dropped his smirk. "Listen here Half," He spat the word Half like it was some kind of insult. "You better stay away from my lounge. If y"- "It's not your lounge. You don't own this school, and I can go anywhere I freaking want! So back off!" She growled and stormed away, grumbling insults.
"O. . . K then." Lucas said. They both watched as the dark green boy punched Aria's locker in a fit of rage and stalked off. "Not everyone likes having a human in school." Wyatt turned to Lucas. "I'm fine with it. But others. . . Not so much. They really don't like her. I don't think she likes them either. She threatens anyone who's mean to her." Lucas pursed his lips and turned back to his locker, pulling it open. Great. More bullying. That's just terrific. He had thought that in at least in monster school, things would be different since EVERYONE was weird. But nope, it's just like every other high school, with cliques and judgmental teenagers. He shoved his bag into the locker and slammed it shut. So what if a human went to this school? In his opinion, if she was being bullied then she could talk back all she wants.
"Oh. So your ok with humans too?" Lucas rolled his eyes and scowled. "Of course I'm ok with humans. I thought I was one until my skin peeled off like some sort of freaking lizard." Wyatt's eyes widened in surprise, bringing life to his normally blank expression. "Oh. You lived with humans. That's why your so. . . Skittish around other monsters. I thought it was just because you lived in a vampire only community before you moved here." Lucas tilted his head questioningly. "Vampire only community?" "There are cities and towns made up of only one species. Communities. They're for monsters who don't like or don't feel comfortable with mixing with other monsters. I just assumed you were from one of them."
Okkkkkkkkk. Obviously things are much more confusing then I thought. Not that a whole world full of monsters isn't confusing. So prejudice does exist everywhere. Lucas sighed and looked down at his schedule. "I need to get to Homeroom. Can you show me where room A3 is?" "I believe I can help with that." A voice drawled. Lucas and Wyatt turned to see a group of people standing in front of them. Lucas immediately noticed something familiar about them. All had pale skin, black markings, and fangs. Vampires. The first vampires he's met since he discovered he was one of them.
