Chapter three
(The main character Lucas belongs to @AriaNightmare from her book Omens. Go check it out!)
Wyatt blinked at the group. "Oh. Vampires. I knew this was coming. I think." A guy with shiny black hair stepped forward, so Lucas assumed he was the little ring leader of the group. "Hey," He greeted Lucas with a sly grin. "So your the new noble blood vampire huh?" Lucas didn't like this guy. Or his little group for that matter. They all had an extremely smug attitude, as if they were much better than everyone else. "What's it matter to you?" Lucas asked coldly. The guy's lips tugged into a smile. "Easy. I'm not here to upset you. I just wanna talk. My name is Amar. This is Quin, Rose, Harriet, Mary, and Jake." He gestured to the people behind him.
"Well that's great," Lucas grumbled. "What do you want? If you don't want anything, screw off." Amar smiled. "No need to be so hostile my friend, I simply want to offer you something." "Hey Lucas," Wyatt poked his arm. "It's twelve twenty-three. I should take you to your class. If you want." Amar turned to Wyatt and his face contorted into one of disgust. "Stay out of vampire matters, Limb dropper. This doesn't concern you!" Wyatt didn't look insulted in the least. "I'm a Limbless." "Your filth," Mary hissed while the other two girls giggled. Lucas felt anger boil inside of him. "Look, Lucas was is?" Quin said, stepping forward. "Why don't you come hang with us? You don't have to associate with. . . Other breeds. We pure bloods have to stick together, don't we? If you come with us, you'll get the best. I promise you that. So what do you say?" He stuck out his hand. Lucas glared at him. Quin nodded toward Mary.
She caught his meaning and stepped forward, smoothing her skirt. She was pretty, with fair golden hair and a thin body. "I was just like you Lucas," She purred, leaning her body forward. Lucas felt his cheeks grow hot and swallowed, shuffling back a few steps. Her smile widened. "I was new at this school," She continued. "I didn't have any friends. I didn't know who I should or shouldn't socialize with," She glanced pointedly at Wyatt who was spacing out. "But then Amar and his group helped me. They showed me around the school and have become my friends. I was skeptical at first, but it's really for the best that us pure bloods stick together. You know. . ." She took a step forward and looked Lucas up and down, absorbing him. She gave a satisfied smirk. "I'm really glad you came. I've been looking for a boyfriend." She smiled flirtatiously. "So, how about it? Hang out with me?"
Lucas's face felt hot and he shook his head to clear it. "N-no." He took a deep breath and looked directly into her face, his eyes hard. "No thanks. Now would you move it? Wyatt and I need to get by." He shoved past her and pushed his way from the group who threw him looks of great contempt and distaste. Wyatt ran over to walk beside him, giving him a blank stare. "You refused them," He stated. "Yeah," Lucas huffed, taking long angry strides. "So what?" Lucas hated those types of groups. They were worse then stupid people. He felt his anger rise and he gritted his teeth. They acted like they were just SOOO much better than anyone else. Like everyone should feel unworthy to be in their glorious presence. Pfft. Please. "Take me to my class," He growled at Wyatt. "I need to get my mind off those losers." Wyatt closed his mouth and nodded, leading him to the class.
"Hey," Wyatt said. "Thanks." Lucas glanced over at him, confused. For what?" "For not being mean to me too." Wyatt spoke with no emotion, face as blank as ever. "You could have just accepted their friendship. I wouldn't blame you. They lead glamorous lives. You would have had fun with them," He took a right then went left. "But then you would have had to be a jerk to people like me. It's a small price to pay. But you didn't. So thanks." Lucas gave him a weird look. "Your. . . Really odd. You know that Wyatt? I don't get half the things that come out of your mouth." Wyatt shrugged. "If it helps, I can take off my head again." Lucas felt a flash of alarm. "No no, that's not a great thing to do to my stomach." Wyatt's lips stretched into a grin. "You sure? It's rather easy." "Wyatt," Lucas said firmly, emphasizing each word. "Do not take off your head."
"Ok. I'll do it later."
"Wyatt!"
"Or not at all."
"Not at all is good."
They were at the class room door. Wyatt pushed it open and went in. A small scream caught his attention and he stopped short, one leg still held in midair. "What was that?" "Sunshine."
Wyatt replied. "What?" Wyatt looked down on where Lucas was about to step. "Sunshine." Baffled, Lucas looked down and choked. A small boy with a pair of yellow wings on his back was staring up at his shoe, white with fear. If Lucas had not stopped, he would have stepped on him. "Oh my. . . What the freaking. . .?" "You nearly stepped on me!!" The boy yelped and then flew up to his face, placing his hands on his hips. "Are you trying to kill me you idiot?!" "Wha?" Lucas was speechless. "No, I-" The boy slapped him surprisingly hard for someone his size. He crossed his arms and flew into the class, cursing loudly.
Lucas stared. "You've never seen a pixie before either, have you?" Lucas numbly shook his head no. "Yeah. . . You've got to watch out for the little guys." A bell rang, signaling the start of class. "Let's go in." Wyatt push Lucas inside and helped him into a seat before seating himself next to him. The lesson was actually pretty normal except Lucas couldn't stop staring at his teacher and classmates. His teacher was a straight up cartoony devil looking woman, with red skin, red horns, and a red point tail. She wrote on the chalkboard and checked her book for reference, tail swishing lazily from side to side. Overall, the class went by normally aside from a student catching his paper on fire once. At the end of his class, Lucas got up and went to his locker to get his math books, Wyatt trailing behind him.
He pulled out the thick math textbook and a notepad then shut the locker. Wyatt already held his textbooks and stood beside him, waiting for him. "Excuse me!" A small enthusiastic voice said. Lucas looked around but couldn't find the speaker. "Uh. . . Hello?" He asked, turning his head in each direction. "Hello!" The voice replied. "Down here!" He felt a slight tugging on his pants leg and looked down. A small green girl holding a bunch of flowers as big as her was looking up at him, smiling cheerfully. She was bigger then the pixie boy, but not by much. She was only about a foot tall- maybe less. A small pink bud bobbed in her hair as she bounced excitedly. "Hi! My name is Garland, it's very very nice to meet you!" She offered up the flowers and smiled. "Welcome to our school! I hope your having a good day so far. It's always so exciting to meet new people!" Lucas blinked. He wasn't sure how to handle her level of cheery cuteness. It was like she was dumping a truckload of genuine happiness and rainbows over his head. He shot Wyatt a look and then looked down at her, not knowing what to say.
"Um. Thanks. . . Garland." He knelt down and took the flowers then stood up and examined them. They appeared to be a mix of roses, wildflowers, and decorative leaves. The smell was like honey, rain, and chocolate. An odd mix, but not unpleasant. "Thanks," He said again. He looked back at her and saw that she was still there, looking up at him expectingly. "Oh. My name's Lucas." Wyatt didn't introduce himself. For some reason he kept looking down the hallway, as if he were looking for someone. Garland smiled and clasped her hands together. "It's nice to meet you Lucas! If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask! I'll be glad to help you out. Oh, I could show you the gardens or the lounges or, ooh, the food is really tasty too! And don't worry, they serve everything! Even blood. I've never had blood before. I've seen other vampires drink it though, but I've never had it. I wonder what it tastes like. Oh!" She chuckled and hit her head. "I got side tracked! Sorry, I do that a lot. What class do you have next?" Lucas was overwhelmed with the cutesy level. He swallowed and answered. "Math." "Math?" Garland brightened and hopped in place. "Me too! Ha ha, what are the odds right? Some of my friends go to math now too! I can introduce you! Maybe we can all hang out together. Maybe we can all have lunch together!"
Lunch? Lucas shook his head. "Uhh. Sssuuuurrrreeeeee," He said in a skeptical tone. She grinned and giggled happily. "Yay! It'll be fun, I promise!" Wyatt suddenly grabbed Lucas's arm. "Whatever you do," He gave Lucas's arm a squeeze. "Do not look him in the eyes." Lucas's brow creased, confused. "What? Don't look who in the eyes?" Footsteps approached from behind and a disturbingly dark shadow went over them. Lucas stiffened, all of his instincts telling him to run. Slowly, he turned around. An over six foot tall, black skinned monster stood before him. Lucas had seen a lot of horrifically terrifying creatures since he came to the Underground. But this monster would definitely be in the top ten. He was definitely male, with a narrow, buff figure. Pitch black horns protruded from his dark red hair, and his skin was only a shade or two lighter than his horns. But his eyes were the most. . . Disturbing thing about him. Lucas understood now why Wyatt said not to look him in the eyes.
They radiated a hostile coldness and held an emptiness that seemed to threaten suffering for whoever looked into them. And they were red. No. Red wasn't the right word. It wouldn't even begin to describe what they were. It looked like someone had taken fire from the pits of hell, covered it in the intentions of a serial killer, rolled it in the insanity of a mad man, and then doused it all in blood. That's what his eyes looked like. What was even worse was that the longer Lucas looked at him, the more he felt like curling into a ball and. . . Something else. That's what he felt as he looked at him. He wore the school uniform, but somehow that didn't make it any better. His dark blue tie was untucked in a careless manner, his vest cut off halfway, and the bottom three buttons of his long sleeve grey shirt undone, revealing more of his dark skin. He stared down at him and Lucas had the feeling that he was glaring right into his soul.
Wyatt backed up and touched Lucas's arm lightly. "Lucas," He warned. "Just back away." He'd have loved too. But his feet felt heavier then lead and he was pinned in place by those eyes. Garland looked at the demon and tilted her head. Lucas felt a protective surge towards the small girl. Sure he didn't know her, but this guy looked like he ate children for breakfast. Lucas edged himself so that he was standing between the demon and Garland. Apparently this was the wrong thing to do. The demon's eyes glowed with a dark light and he growled. Lucas's instincts were screaming at him to escape, but somehow he held his ground. Garland pushed herself from around Lucas's leg and went up to the demon. She tugged at his pants leg. "Hey! Don't be mean. Your making your scary face again. Don't scare them." The demon ignored her and narrowed his eyes. "What did you say to her?" His voice was like pure ice. Lucas shivered. "What?" "If you said anything to her," He flexed his fingers. "I'll tear your soul into fragments and burn them in the flames of eternal damnation."
Well that's a threat you don't hear everyday. Lucas took a step away from him, intimidated none the less. Garland tugged at his pants again, harder this time. The demon's hair slipped down and covered his right eye as he looked down at her. "They weren't doing anything wrong. This is Lucas! He's new. I was just giving him some flowers. Like I did you!" The demon blinked and looked back at Lucas. Now that one of his eyes were covered, the fear Lucas had been feeling diminished a bit. "You weren't bothering her?" He asked. Lucas shook his head. "Not that I know of," He looked down at Garland. "Was I bothering you?" Garland shook her head and smiled. "Nope! No bothering here!" She answered cheerily. The demon's face remained emotionless but the dark fear inducing aura completely evaporated now. Lucas took a calming breath, thankful that the unpleasant sensation was gone. Saying no more, the demon stooped down and offered his hand to Garland. She hopped up onto his open palm and seated herself on her knees.
Surprised and slightly worried, Lucas took a step towards them. "Uh, Garland?" He didn't think someone as small as her should be going off with someone that looked like something a satanic cult would worship. He could all too easily imagine this guy being summoned from a pentagram and go on a bloodthirsty killing spree. Someone had to look out for the little guys. Literally in this case. Garland however just smiled. "If you need anything, just come over and find me, ok? We'll see you at math!" She waved goodbye as she was lifted up and placed on the demon's shoulder. The demon then turned and walked away, Garland talking excitedly into his ear. He didn't even bother to look at Lucas or Wyatt as he left.
Lucas spun around to Wyatt. "Who- or What- the hell was that?! That damn guy was like some sorta walking nightmare! How is that even possible?!?!" Wyatt shrugged slowly. "It's just. . . The way he is. No one messes with him. Everyone is. . . Too afraid. Well, nearly everyone. Aria doesn't seem to be afraid of him. Neither does Void. Of course, Garland isn't bothered by him in the least. Oh. Yeah. You should know- never ever mess with Garland. If you upset her, your asking for a fight with him. That demon. So. . . Don't upset her."
"Thanks for the information," Lucas grumbled. "Very helpful. What kind of name is Void by the way?" Lucas wanted to change the subject from the demon guy. "I mean, who names their child that?" Wyatt's lips twitched into a smile. "Who name's their child Wyatt? What am I, a light bulb?" Lucas scoffed. "Well it's obvious your not very bright." He teased, shoving Wyatt playfully. Even though he was trying to focus on his conversation with Wyatt, he couldn't stop thinking about the demon. About those eyes. . . Garland had said that she had the same class with him next. She and some friends. If one of her friends was that demon. . . God. This was going to be a long day.
