Chapter five

(The main character Lucas belongs to AriaNightmare from her book Omens. Go check it out!)

"So I'm really happy you decided to walk with us! I wanted to talk to you some more!" Garland said brightly, smiling wide. Her voice was so cheery it nearly made Lucas forget the situation he was in currently. After Science class, Lucas booked it from the room, trying to put as much distance from Nameless as he could. He hated the fact that this guy scared him. Lucas had never been scared of anyone like this in his life before. Usually it was him who scared people. He clenched his jaw as he stared down at his feet, mentally kicking himself. Later on as Lucas was walking to Biology he happened to run into Nameless again. Thankfully Garland was with him (this time on top of his head, lying on her stomach; how she didn't fall off, he had no idea) and his right eye was covered, so Lucas didn't feel the weird choking feeling that wrapped around his body. Apparently they both had Biology in the exact same room as him. Yay.

Garland being the cutesy little midget she is, invited him to walk with them. Lucas was extremely tempted to say no, but Garland had given him the biggest puppy eyes he had ever seen, making him cave. So now he was walking beside the one person in the entire school he wanted to avoid. "Hey," Nameless's icy voice hissed. "Uh-what?" Lucas turned his head so fast he might of given himself whiplash. Nameless was staring at him, expression blank and- slightly aloof? "She asked you a question. Answer her." That was yet another thing Lucas didn't understand. Nameless seemed to be the scariest person/demon/thing in existence, but Garland acted like he was her best friend. And as if to make things even more confusing, Nameless seemed not to mind. For a split second Lucas wondered if he was overreacting to Nameless, but as he walked down the halls and up the stairs, he couldn't help but notice everyone clearly giving him a wide berth, keeping their heads down and lips sealed shut.

So it isn't just me. Well that's good. At least I know that I'm not just being an over dramatic weirdo. "Sorry what?" He asked. Garland repeated her question. "You'll have lunch with us right?" "Uh. . ." Again, Lucas was tempted to say no, but by the look Nameless was giving him, he didn't really have a choice. "Yeah ok." Garland's smile was so wide, Lucas couldn't help but smile himself. Three minutes later, they arrived to their destination. Lucas immediately wanted to turn around and walk right out as soon as he saw what they were meant to be doing. Rat carcasses were arranged on top of the desks, shiny silver tools displayed besides them. To make matters even worse, the rats were the biggest, ugliest, and creepiest rats he's ever seen. Some of them were completely hairless while others had only a few mangy clumps clinging to their bodies.

Lucas covered his mouth and tried his best not to hurl. Apparently health and safety codes weren't a thing here. Who knew what kind of diseases these things carried. "Oh dear," I voice said tiredly. Lucas glanced over to Garland. She didn't look to happy either.
Lucas held in a groan and took a seat at the desk with the smallest rat he could find. When everyone was settled, Mr. Greg walked in. He was the closest thing to a werewolf Lucas could describe, except he wore a flannel shirt and jeans. "Ok class," He huffed, positioning himself to the front of the class. "Today we will be experimenting with some rats." Some of the class groaned while others whispered excitedly to each other, but all fell silent when Mr. Greg let out a low growl. "You have all been given some tools to help aide your experiment. I suggest you all turn to pages 28 and 29 in your biology books. No letting your experiment attack your classmate. Good luck."

Lucas stared down at his rat, it's dead eyes staring back. Sorry rat. I really don't wanna touch you. Believe me. Sighing, he pulled out his book, picked up a scalpel and delicately sliced open it's stomach. Gagging, he looked away and turned to pages 28 and 29. Skimming over the directions, he bit his lip and winced. Ow. Right. Fangs. Gotta remember I have those. He picked up a small vile contained what looked like black sand. Curious, he poured a bit onto the rat. To his surprise, the tiny black grains began moving and seemed to be burying itself into the rats flesh. Less then a minute later the body began to twitch. AW HELL NO HELL NO HELL NO HELL NO!! He thought frantically, looking around at his classmates. None of them seemed to be paying him any mind, all too observed in their own experiments. Suddenly, several long dark worms popping out of the rat, each of them squirming violently. Lucas yelped and slammed his book down on top of them. He wasn't sure if it was the body or the worms that he heard go "Squish". He shuddered and carefully lifted up the book. The worms were dead thankfully, but the back of his book had worm guts on it. Oops. He thought as he looked at it in disgust. Sorry mom. Looks like I'm going to need a new one, cause there's no way I'm using this. Setting the book aside, he quietly decided that that was enough biology for today.

A high pitch scream pierced the air, making Lucas jump in his seat. He quickly spun around to see what was happening. Garland was running down the class room floor, screaming in panic as a large half rotten rat chased her, eyes glowing red. "I thought I told you to keep your experiment from attacking people!" Mr. Greg yelled over the screams. Lucas jumped up and snatched Garland away from the floor  just as the rat caught on fire. It squealed loudly as the black flames consumed it's body, dying all over again but this time in a much more painful way. Fear gripped his throat, cutting off his oxygen. Black flame. Black flames. He's seen black flames before. With one last agonizing screech, the rat fell over, dead. The flames disappeared, and with it the body, leaving no trace that the rat had ever even existed.

The entire class seemed to freeze as all eyes simultaneously fell on Nameless. He was standing, scrutinizing the spot where the rat had been, expression devoid of emotion. Slowly, he raised his head, his eye glowing a violent red. Lucas unconsciously took a step back, swallowing. Even though one of his eyes were still covered, a cold sickening feeling overtook the class room. "Who was it?" Every tensed at his voice. Lucas felt the hair on the back of his neck rise and he forced his breathing to remain even. "I'm not going to ask again," He warned. "So either tell me who the hell the rat belonged too or I'll just punish every single one of you. I really don't care which opinion you choose. I get a result either way." Several hands immediately pointed to a boy with bat like wings in the back of the room. The boy shook and was drenched in sweat. "I-I-I di-di-didn't mean t-too! I p-promise!" He stuttered out. Nameless stared at the boy, and his eye lid drooped in a lazy fashion, as if it wasn't worth his time. He raised his right arm in the direction of the boy. The boy trembled and shook his head, cowering away. "NO! Please I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Please don't!" "Nameless," Garland began. Nameless flicked his hand at the boy.

A hole appeared underneath the boy like a tear in space, darkness and whispers radiating from it. Five pitch black clawed hands extended from it, latching onto the boy. "NO!!" The boy screamed as he thrashed around, trying to break the hands hold. A dark snake like creature came next, wrapping itself around the boy's leg and climbing upwards until the boy's entire body was restrained. Lastly, it wound around his mouth, muffling his cries. With a sudden jerk, the hands pulled the boy into the hole and sealed itself shut. The boy was gone. Lucas stood frozen, not believing what had just happened. This guy. . . Is a demon. He's a demon. Pure evil and that's it. "Nameless. . ." Mr. Greg said finally. "That's quite enough. Bring the boy back now, and he better be unharmed. You'll go to the principal's office when school is over. Now bring him back." Nameless remained unmoving and simply blinked at him. "Nameless!" Mr. Greg snarled. "Now!" Something moved in Lucas's hands. Lucas realized he was still holding Garland and quickly set her down onto his desk, heart pounding. How is she friends with this demon?! How?!? How could she be friends with this. . . Thing?!? "Nameless," She said, looking up at him. Nameless turned his sight to her. Lucas tensed, preparing to defend her if necessary. He probably wouldn't stand a chance against Nameless but if it came down to it he would try.

"Let him out now Nameless," She said sternly. "Let him out. You didn't have to go that far. I'm fine, so let him go. Please." She added pleading. Nameless regarded her for a moment then flicked his hand again. The hole reopened and spat out the boy before disappearing again. The girl who was sitting at the desk next to him leapt up to catch him. The boy lay limp in her arms, unconscious. "He'll be fine," Mr. Greg mumbled to the class. "He'll have some nightmares about that place for a bit but eventually it'll just fade from his mind. Mariah, take him to the nurse. Everyone else just go to lunch." He walked down the desk rows and helped The girl hoist the boy up. Together they both dragged the boy out of the class room. Nameless approached Lucas's desk. Lucas stood up as tall as he could and willed himself not to shake. Nameless watched Lucas's face for a few seconds. What's he doing? He thought to himself with a flash of annoyance. Is he trying to see my reaction? Is he trying to see if I'm scared? Hmf. Don't count on it demon. You one of the most disturbing creatures I've ever seen, but I'll be damned if I ever let you know that. Nameless shifted his gaze to Garland. "You're not hurt?" He asked dully. Garland nodded. He reached a hand towards her. She hopped on and remained still as he brought her up to his shoulder.

When she got there however, she began hitting the side of his head. Lucas doubted her little fists would hurt much, but was still worried about how Nameless might react. Nameless simply endured the attack, looking bored and aloof. "Why why why why why?! Why do you act so stupid sometimes Nameless!? Why?!" She delivered one last kick and then stopped and panted, breathless. "You go apologize to him later ok Nameless? Say you're sorry! What you did was a mean jerkish thing!" "I'll apologize. Though I'll hardly mean it." He replied coldly. "Are you satisfied now?" Garland thought for a second and slowly nodded. "Then sit. You might fall off if you keep squirming around." She obeyed with a sigh. Nameless started walking then stopped and turned to Lucas. "Come on."

Lucas blinked. "What?" "Come on. You're eating lunch with us. You told Garland you would, now hurry up and move." Bitting back a mean retort, Lucas began gathering his stuff. The hell was wrong with this guy? How could a demon even be allowed into this school? I mean, sure it's a school for monsters but seriously? The actual hell? But more importantly, how the freaking hell is Garland friends with this dude?!
