Chapter 16: We Can't Disappoint (This Time)
"Look guys! We got Jamie and Mikey back!"
"Yay! We were scared Carboard Fwiend, you were gone for so long!"
"Sorry Eddie! But I'm back now, and we'll never have to be apart again!"
"Yay!"

Sally groaned and opened her eyes as Billy shook her. She rubbed the back of her head and put her hand in front of her face when she felt something wet. Oh, it was just blood. She showed her hand to Billy who quickly went to work bandaging her head. Sue was trying to break down the door to a motel room...wait...
Sally gasped. "Are Dan and Phil okay?"
Sue kicked the door again. "I don't know. That thing launched you into the wall and locked the door."
"Couldn't you ask Josh to unlock it?"
Sue stopped kicking the door and blushed. "Oh, yeah." He walked over to the stairs, made it past the first step, then tripped and tumbled all the way down. Sally giggled. Billy pat her head and proudly proclaimed, "Done!"
Sally stood up and Billy did the same. Sue came up a moment later with Josh. Josh looked at Sally's bandaged head in concern. "Do you need some painkillers?"
"No, but do you have any waffles?"
"I think so," Josh said. She took a walkie-talkie out of her pocket. "Hey Dummy, could you put some waffles in the toaster?"
"No problem! Dummy out!"
"Now, which room do you need me to unlock?"
Sue pointed to the door covered in footprints. "That one."
Josh unlocked the room. "Where're those tall guys you were with?"
Sue looked around the room for any sign of Dan and Phil. "I think they just got kidnapped by a ghost made of cardboard boxes," he said. Josh shook her head.
"Not another ghost. This place was haunted when we bought it, we don't need an outside ghost causing more trouble," she said grumpily. "I'm calling P.I.E." She left the room and went downstairs. The Acachalla kids continued to look around the room, hoping they could find some clues about where the box thing took Dan and Phil. They weren't having any luck.
Suddenly Sue shouted, "I've got it!" he sprang up from inspecting the floor, slipped, and fell on his butt. He got up again, slowly this time, and grinned. "I know what happened! It was the Creaky Manor ghost!"
"But I thought it never leaves the manor?" Billy said.
"But what else could that ghost have been? It was made of boxes!"
Sally and Billy thought it over. "I guess so," Sally said. "So that means that their in the manor, right?"
Billy shook his head. "I don't want to go there, it's scary!"
Sue put his hands on his hips in what he thought was a heroic pose. "We have to save them! Mama and Papa gave us a task and we can't let them down."
"We let Papa down all the time. He said he keeps a scoreboard."
"But this is a chance to not let him down Billy! Josh said she called P.I.E, right? So we'll get them to help us! I mean, Colon and Spooker. I don't think Toast or Ghost will help us since they kinda kidnapped them to begin with." Sue didn't give his siblings a chance to argue. He'd been apart of rescue missions before and knew that if someone isn't sure you've got to not give them an option. His old bosses used to do that all the time. He repeated a phrase he'd heard them use before. "Now that that's settled, let's get started!"
As if on cue Josh walked into the room, Colon and Spooker trailing behind her. Josh handed Sally her waffles and Spooker began asking questions. "So what happened?"
"The box thing from Creaky Manor kidnapped Dan and Phil," Billy said. Spooker's eyes went wider than anyone thought his eyes could go. Colon, who had been inspecting the window, almost fell out. He hoisted himself back into the room and Spooker shook his head.
"No way we're going after it. Toast told that thing was way to dangerous for anyone to take on!"
Sally pouted and crossed her arms. She blew a strand of hair out of her face and said angrily, "Well we can't leave them! It has Ghost and Toast too!"
"That would explain why they didn't show up today..."
"Come on!"
Spooker shook his head. Sally stomped her feet like a child about to throw a tantrum. Colon, not wanting Sally to start screaming, ran over and shoved Spooker out of her line of sight. "Tell you what, if there's something about the box thing in Toast's book we'll go after it, okay?" he offered. Sally immediately perked up and nodded her head happily. Billy and Sue fist bumped while Spooker started rummaging through his bag to find a copy of Toast's book. He pulled one out and reluctantly handed it to Colon, who began scanning the table of contents. After a moment he sucked in a breath and whispered "Oh crap..."
"What?"
"Uh, it say's here that the thing is called Cardboard Friend. It, uh, turns people insane and feeds off that insanity until they...die. And when they do they don't come back, they become lost spirits with little to no sanity left, doomed to forever wander the world of the living."
The room filled with silence. Colon coughed and handed the book back to Spooker, who looked like he was on the verge of a breakdown. Finally Sue broke the silence.
"Well, a deal's a deal. Let's do this."
Hi! So uh, here's a new chapter! It's almost pointless to apologize at this point because there's no excuse for not updating for so long. If you're still reading this thank you for your patience and support.
