Not What He Seems

Syd ran through the forest, searching for the building she saw in her dream, even though she didn't know where it was or how to get there, but she trusted her instincts to try. As she saw an opening out of the shade of the trees, a vehicle whizzed by on the road. She made it to the edge of the stony path. A police car was heading from the right and it rushed by her, she caught a glimpse of two seemingly familiar faces, it was the two kids she saw in her dream. She began to give chase, while figuring out a way to stop the vehicle without hurting whoever's inside. Then a truck came up beside them and the girl began to write on the window, from the mist, 'Several Times is overrated', Syd was confused about it until the truck rammed itself into the police car, causing it to tumble down the hillside. She heard a crash and immediately rushed down to make sure they're ok. She halted half way when she saw that the kids managed to get out of the car, the agent who was driving the car tried calling backup, but the boy disconnected him.

"C'mon Dipper, let's go clear our uncle's name." The girl said as she began to walk away, Dipper followed.

"Oh, you poor kids, you really think your uncle's innocent." The agent said, Dipper halted as the agent began to talk about how his uncle 'scammed' the whole world, then he looked over his shoulder.

"You. . .you don't know what you're talking about." The twelve year old stammered as he continued to follow his sister. Syd followed them on silent paws. What was the point of her coming here? If these kids were able to escape a fully trained police agent, then why did they need her help? The kids eventually found their way back to their. . .home? Mystery Shack? She doesn't know, but she guessed this was where they lived. They used a handmade zip line to get to the roof without being spotted by the guarding agents. One of them suddenly, announced that the man, who Syd believed was the kids' uncle, escaped. They all began to go out and search the town, leaving the shack unguarded, so Syd quickly snuck in before any of the agents came back. She heard voices from upstairs, it was the kids, so she quietly and slowly came up and followed the voices to an open door, she took a peek inside and the twins were looking at old pieces of paper.

"What!? Stan Pines Dead?" Dipper exclaimed, as he read an old newspaper article. "Foul play suspected in Pines death." His sister finished.

"Then who have we been living with?" Dipper asked, "I can't believe it, this whole summer, I've been looking for answers and the biggest mystery is right under our nose, Mabel!" He continued.

"There has to be some explanation." Mabel insisted as she searched through the pile of papers, then she found a small piece of paper with the words, 'Secret Code to Hideout'. She concluded that it was the vending machine, before they could leave the room, Syd went downstairs first to make sure she wasn't seen. She went back down the stairs and looked around for a place to hide, then she heard the door open and another guy, wearing a question mark t-shirt, cautiously walked in, standing in front of the vending machine as the kids came down, by then Syd had used her camouflage technique to hide.

"Step aside, Soos." She heard Dipper say, but Soos refused to move, saying that Stan had ordered him to guard the machine. Syd watched, confused why the vending machine is so important. Dipper and Mabel began to wrestle Soos to get to the machine, soon, Dipper managed to put the code in and the whole machine opened up, revealing a hidden passageway. They each exchanged shocked glances, then Soos grabbed a lantern and they began to head down the stairs. She decided to stay in case they came back.

They're not back yet as Stan raced across the room of the shack and rushed down the stairs where the kids and Soos went. Syd was startled by him, so she decided to follow. She stayed hidden, she got close enough to hear them, she could see a giant portal like machine, it was in the shape of a triangle, with a hold in the middle.

"Listen, I just need that machine to stay on, if you just let me explain." Stan pleaded as Dipper was about to push the shut off button, but his watch began to beep, "Oh! Oh no, brace yourselves!" He said before gravity just turned itself off. And Syd began to float, she was used to it since she can fly, but what is going on? She saw Mabel hanging on to the pole where the button was and Stan trying to get over to her, but Soos shoved him back.

"Soos, what are you doing? I gave you an order!" Stan growled. "Sorry, Mr. Pines, if that is your real name, but I have a new mission now: Protecting these kids!" The employee vowed and Dipper launched himself at his 'uncle'.

"Mabel, press the button, shut it down!" He ordered his sister. "No, Mabel, please!" Stan protested.

"Grunkle Stan, I don't even know, if you're my Grunkle." Mabel sobbed, "I want to believe you but. . ." Syd felt sympathy for her and her brother, she wanted to beat up Stan for lying to them.

"Listen, Mabel, remember when I said I wanted to tell you something. . ." Stan began before a strong force pushed he, Dipper, Soos, and Syd against the wall, that was when Dipper noticed her and stared at her, eyes wide, "I was going to say that you were going to hear some bad things about me, and some of them are true, but everything I've done, everything I've worked for: It was all for this family!" Stan continued, then Dipper brought his attention back to his sister.

"He's lying, shut it down now!" He cried, glancing at Syd again. The white cat looked at Mabel, not knowing why the portal has to be shut down, or why Stan wants it to stay on. Questions swarmed in her mind.

"Mabel, please!" Stan interrupted her thoughts. Syd noticed the timer is at ten seconds, and counting down. Mabel looked like she was about to push it, but she took a glimpse at her uncle again.

"Grunkle Stan," She began as the timer was at five, she let go of the pole and let herself float free in the lack of gravity, "I trust you." She finished as the portal began to show a glaring white light.

"Mabel, are you crazy? We're all gonna-" Dipper didn't finish his sentence before the timer struck zero and Syd was blinded by a white light. Then she was lost in an empty space of darkness. . .
