VIII
The Templor comes on the stage. This time he's wearing a brightly colored purple robe. On each side is Gashak and Timmith. Our lovely leaders.
We stand near the back. Ash on one side with Ida on the other. My father is tapping his foot impatiently. My mother comes to stand in front of us reaching back to hold one of our hands each.
"We are here to inform the realm, our guest have arrived early this time. Templors from Van Hall, Denceday, and Lifrance, have made it to the realm. I've opened up my home to them as we were not prepared for their sudden arrival." The Templor says into the microphone.
That's when I notice more men standing behind him. Yet I can't help but feel our Templor is lying.
"Thus the Necron will have to start earlier the expected."
There were shouts from the crowd. Clearly displeased people begin ranting about it being unfair.
My mother squeezes our hands tight, looking at my father. He looks stressed. With the wrinkles by his eyes, bags that I've never noticed before. He cast me a reassuring smile.
The Templor continues talking as the crowd snaps at him. Peons patrol the edge of the gathering. Weapons out and ready to be used.
I hear a rumbling noise, and two beeps, barely audible over the crowd. My father tugs on my shoulder, causing me to look up at him.
He tips his head and turns looking around as he weaves his way through the crowd. Grabbing onto each other's hands we all make it to the edge.
Father looks around once again before motioning to go. We all speed walk away from the crowd into a dark alley.
"You guys ready?" Father ask us.
Ida nodds her head with tears in her eyes. A shuffle noise catches my attention and my heart stops in my chest. We've been caught.
"Wait for me guys!" A female voice hisses. I sigh deeply relieved it's just Marisa.
"Thought you weren't coming." I snap at her.
"Changed my mind." She snaps back. Tossing Ash a bag of stuff he nodds his head in thanks.
My mother pulls Ida and I in for a hug. My father turns it into a group hug. Stepping back after a moment he turns to Ash and Marisa. "You better protect them out there."
A car zooms up to us skidding to a stop next to us. I blink. We don't use cars anymore, those are for peons when they go on mission outside the realm.
A girl sits in the driver seat grinning from ear to ear. Freckles dust across her nose and cheeks, "Well let's go while they are busy."
My dad gives me a shove, I step into action running to the passenger door I jump in the car tossing my bag on the floor board.
Ash, Ida, and Marisa climb into the backseat. With a wave to my parents the girl slams her foot on the gas pedal causing us to peel out.
We shoot forward down the alley and she whips the steering wheel right, we whirl around the corner shooting for the deserted roads.
I can't help but think this was a perfect plan. Everyone in the realm is all in one place leaving everything else open for us.
"Do you have to go so fast?" Marisa ask the girl.
She nodds her head, "If we plan on leaving the realm, yes. I'm Paris by the way." She smiles at me. "Your dad works with my father. They planned this a long time ago."
"Soon the Templor will realize that our guests aren't who they say they are."
"What?!" Ida shouts out.
"They are imposters. A diversion to get us out of here."
I'm stunned silent. How could my father been planning this? No wonder he looks so tired and stressed.
"So who are they exactly?" Ash ask as he leans forward in his seat.
"Peons"
"Wait what? No! What if someone else found out?" I screech. "We're dead!"
Ida reaches forward grabbing my shoulder, calming me the slightest bit. "Go faster." She tells Paris.
"Go back! I have a bad feeling about this." I say. Yet she pushes the car to speed up faster.
By now we have past all the house, we fly by fields of food. Thankfully that it's almost time to harvest, the fields block us from view.
The uneasiness in my stomach doesn't go away. If anything it gets stronger the further away we get. The car is silent.
"We're really leaving." Ash says quietly. Almost sounding hopeful, which is odd. How bad could his life be? He's a thisel!
"Where do we go once we're out of here?" He ask Paris.
"We are going to try making it past the next realm. Hoping we can find a way to blend in there." She tells the group.
Ida is smiling like a lunitic, Marisa eyes are wide looking slightly uncomfortable.
"How'd you get the car?" I ask.
She shurgs her shoulders he lips in a tight line.
The fields open up to land. Green sprawling for miles. Now I smile, regardless of my unease.
Ida starts clapping excitedly. Which turns contatigous, everyone starts smiling and relaxing a bit.
"F**k!" Shouts Paris. She slams on the gas again, causing the car to jerk forward. "Buckle up!"
Snapping my buckle in place, I grip the edge of the seat. Hearing the click of several buckles, I hold my breath as I see the speedometer. Paris is going 100 miles per hour right now.
I glance in the rearview mirror, noticing to shining light. I turn around looking out the back window. "What is that?"
"Another car." Another jerk forward.
"They're coming for us." Marisa says.
"No sh*t Sherlock!" Snaps Paris. She grips the wheel tighter.
Still looking through the window, I can tell the are gaining speed. Soon the will be on us. I whip around. "Faster!" I scream.
"I can't go faster!" She yells at me.
Up ahead I see another gate. Swallowing loudly, I point at it. "The gate is closing!"
Thick spiked rods make up the gate. Paris said she couldn't go faster yet the car jerks again and shoots through the closing gate with a car on our tail.
The car behind them crashes into the gate as the spikes puncture the roof of the car.
I breath a sigh of relief. Though we made it out if the realm, peons are chasing us.
