IX
A/N I want to start this chapter with a shout out to kapow_12 for reading this book. I appreciate you pointing out my errors and I'm delighted that you are enjoying it.
I'll be editing the previous chapters, there may or may not be anything new.
Alright guys, are we excited for this chapter or what?
For miles they were chased by peons. Slowly the air became thick with tension. Not the kind of tension that comes from people disliking each other, but a tension that comes from stress. Stressing because you know you've done something wrong, and there will be a consequence if you were to be caught.
"How fast does this go?" Ash ask as he leans over towards the front seats.
Paris shrugs her shoulders. "I don't know, I never got a chance to test it." Though she seems carefree about the situation, her fingers are wrapped so tightly around the steering wheel her knuckles were white.
"Well push it to the limits, they are gaining on us." He growls out.
I glance back to see the car not even two car lengths behind us. Suddenly they slow drastically. I turn with a smile on my face, thinking we were going to make it.
My smiles fades quickly as I see a car coming from the right. Glancing left I see the same just a red color car. Roll cages attached to the car, along with a reinforced hood.
Both cars pull in front of us, half a mile ahead if us. They speak off gaining traction on the cracked road. The speed off putting more distance between us.
"What are they doing?" Paris mumbles out, squinting to see ahead of her.
Marisa was the first to see the car ahead turn around. Flashing their headlights at us, blinding our vision for a moment. The other car stops, the passenger jumping out and planting something on the road ahead.
"What did he drop?" Ida ask, panic evident in her voice.
The passenger gets back in the car, and both take off.
Racing towards us.
Whirling around the car from the realm is still following us but at a distance.
"Whatever they dropped is on the bridge." Paris states calmly, as she presses her foot down on the accelerator. Jerking the car forward. The peons cars shoot passed us.
Paris steers us toward the left of the bridge, trying to avoid whatever was dropped.
Ash shouts, "It's a bomb!" As he yanks the steering wheel left harder, causing us to swerve wildly straight towards the edge lined with railing.
The bombs detonates, throwing the car into the railing with a sickening crunch of metal. Glass rains down into the left side of the car. Screams seem to echo each other in my muffled ears, seeming distance compared to the ringing I heard.
The car lands with a a thud. The engine shut off during the explosion. Paris twist the key in the ignition, it turns over but doesn't catch. Slamming her fist against the dash she growls in frustrations.
"They're coming!" Ida screams, tears running down her cheeks as blood drips from a cut on her cheek.
Quickly looking over Ash and Marisa I assess the damage on them.
Ash has a gash someone on his head, the blood running down his neck and soaking his shirt. Marisa's arm is bent at a strange angle, she clutches it close to her chest. Though without tears you can tell she's in pain.
I turn looking at Paris, her nose looks to be broken blood trickling down her face covering her mouth.
She turns the key again, this time the car comes roaring to life. She speeds off letting the side of the car scrap against the railing as she avoids the gaping hole in the bridge.
The right rear tire slips on crumbled concrete sliding the back of the car spinning. Narrowly escaping our deaths twice now.
The peons cars stop just before the hole, their cars being too wide to be able to make it past. Two people in each car step out watching us speed away.
The car is silent for miles. The only sound is the wind blowing through the shattered windows, and heavy breathing.
"Does anyone know how to drive?" Paris asked, voice thick and nasally.
Marisa scoots forward, "I do, I just need something to hold my arm."
"Ida can make you a sling, but you'll need to brace it first so it heals properly." I tell Marisa as Paris pulls the car over cutting the engine.
We all open the doors, climbing out slowly. We group up in front of the car. Paris winces as she touches her nose. I glance at Ash nodding my head toward her.
"Uh, Paris sit on the hood I'll fix that for you." Ash says. Paris sits obediently, Ash puts his thumbs on ethier sides and pushing it back in places as she screams out.
Ida checks my back looking at my split welts, bleeding once again. Luckily I didn't get much damage in the accident. I shrug her away searching the ground for sticks.
Once I find a thick enough stick and snap in it half. Walking over to Marisa I hand them to her as I grab my bag from the car.
Just as I'd hoped Ida packed medical supplies. I place the sticks on her arm wrapping it with gauze hoping it will help. Ida rips apart one of her shirts, making a sling for her. I hand Ida and Paris each a wipe to clean the cuts.
Motioning for Ash to kneel in front of the car I tilt his head searching for his wound. A knock indicates where it is I try my best to clean it as much as possible.
Once everyone is cleaned up we get back in the car. Marisa in the driver seat with Paris in the passenger. Ash on the left, Ida on the right leaving me to sit in the middle.
The car ride was silent as Paris and Ida fell asleep. The moon being the only light to guide our way. Balling a shirt up in Ashs lap I lay my head down on the shirt, eyelids heavy fighting to stay open.
Hope you all enjoyed the chapter.
I didn't expect them to get away but they did!
